8:40 am
8:41 am
we're back. it's 8:41. we have seth rogen and james franco here with r rated "sausage party." it's about a bunch of supermarket foods who thinks paradise awaits when somebody buys them but they find the ugly truth about what happens when they land outside of the grocery store doors. >> in here it seems like the best route is to go through the liquor aisle. shall we? >> what? it seems out of the way. are you sure? >> yeah. totally sure. >> okay. because the way you're saying it doesn't sound like you're too confident. >> yeah. trust me. >> okay. there we go. >> can i just say, guys, that's honestly the only 19 seconds we could find that could be aired on this show. >> that clip is no way indicative of what the movie is about. it's the only airable moment. >> it makes me feel embarrassed.
8:42 am
>> that's our job is to humiliate you. >> seth, you play a hot dog. tell us the premise after that? >> you're not allowed to i would imagine. it's about food from a grocery store who thinks that something good happens when it's purchased and ultimately obviously something terrible happens and one hot dog has the journey where he tries to illuminate the store into the reality of what happens. meanwhile, there's another hot dog that's out in the world that encounters james franco's character who is just named druggy. >> i'm one of the only humans. i didn't get to play food in this one. >> your character's name is druggy which leads to the question who is the target audience here for this movie? >> not children i would say. i really think it's for everyone honestly. it's been so much better received than you would think a movie about a talking hot dog would be.
8:43 am
we really put a lot of thought into this movie honestly. it was inspired by our love of pixar movies and animation. it has a lot of surprisingly deep ideas in it again considering it's essentially talking food for 90 minutes. i think people will be surprised how much heart there is in the movie and there's as lot of theological thought that went into the movie. if you bring your kids to it, you are a bad parent. >> we made that so clear. >> i think it's the best movie seth and the gang has done. >> really? >> i told one of his producers i think it's the best movie ever made. >> i would say just for the shear number of hot dog doubles, that was incredibly impressive. >> exactly. >> if there were a gold medal. >> i think that we put a lot into it. i think it's a genuinely funny movie.
8:44 am
you know, people are so fascinated by the secret life of the objects and things that surround them that the secret life of food is such an obvious arena to go down. it makes sense why a kids' movie wouldn't explore that because it's quite horrific what happens to food but that's why we tackled that subject. >> listen, let's talk about your relationship. >> why don't we. >> as we do, roll the video, please. why do you think it works? >> look at us. >> i think we met with seth was so young and impressionable. >> i was under age. he was the alluring older man. he was inviting me on fancy dinners. it was like "50 shades of grey." >> i can't say i didn't invite that. we love that parity of kanye and kim video. did you fight over who got to be kim and who got to be kanye?
8:45 am
>> it was the other way originally. >> i was going to be kim and seth had an epiphany. >> we switched at the last minute. it's not the first time we switched roles? >> anything in the works we can look forward to? >> we made another movie i produced with franco and i directed and i also act in. it's about the making of a movie called "the room" known for being the worst movie ever made and we chronicle the story about the people who made that movie. >> okay. >> before i let you go, you are in a movie, is it about porn? >> it's an hbo show. >> i see the mustache. that made me think -- >> you caught me in my 1970s glory right here. >> always fun to have you here. the movie is called "sausage party." >> you can't even say it. >> in theaters nationwide on august 12th.
