temperatures. higher humidity. early in the day is the best time for the firefighters to try to tackle the weather and get a hand up on it. as we look at the wind pattern today, as we go to the upper levels at 10,000 feet, the winds are coming in for from a northwesterly direction. you can see where the fire is there south of clear lake. it's north of santa rosa. and at 5,000 feet the winds are coming from the east. that could spread it in a different direction. we'll have winds coming in from the northwest turning we recally as we go into the evening. the high temperature today at 97 in that region. the humidity will drop down to 14% in the middle of the day. so that makes it very hot, very windy, and very dry. not the best conditions for that wild fire. for more information on that, i'll send it back to you. it's been devastating residents describing smoke oner

block yesterday. the devastation is hitting lake county hard. >> they're calling it the clayton fire. it's tearing through lower lake. firefighters are working tirelessly to save those homes in the fire's path. the hardest hit is that lower lake area. historic businesses have been reduced to ash. the community of clear lake is threatened at this hour. last update we received said 3,000 acres are burned. fire officials say that's a conservative estimate. it's unclear how many homes have been destroyed. fire officials say at least ten. the number is expected to rise dramatically. 6,000 people have been forced to evacuate. so far several local strike teams are on the lines helping battle the flames. there are several strike teams from the bay area that have been deployed to help fight the clayton fire.

vehicle. it marks the city's eighth homicide of 2016. a developing story we're watching closely in wisconsin. a state of emergency is in effect for milwaukee. comes after a violent weekend following the fatal police shooting of a man who police say had a gun in his hand and trying to flee from a traffic spot. the sherman park town area exploded on saturday night. investigators say was armed and trying to flee a traffic stop. that confrontation was caught on a police body camera. the video is yet to be released. the police chief calls it a silent movie. there's no audio. there's a demand to release the video to verify what police is saying is accurate. >> every moment it's not released milwaukee is teetering and to the -- tottering between does it explode or continue to wait until the next police heighting? >> as milwaukee tries to restore order on the streets, officials are tallying up the damage. they say a gas station, auto supply store, and bank were

burned. seven police cruisers were destroyed. back on the job. santa clara county court workers will be back to work after weeks of labor strikes. kris sanchez has been following the strike since it started. what is next? >> good morning. the striking workers we saw on the picket line for the last eight days came to an agreement with the court administration. they'll be back on the job at 8:00 this morning. if you have court business here, bear in mind though they'll be on the job, there's a backlog of court activity that has to happen over the next few days before everything catches up back to normal. the 300 or so workers were on the picket line on friday. they spent sunday morning and afternoon in an auditorium at the sheriff's department voting on the agreement that the union reached with the board administration. in a nutshell, the union gets a

raise this year and next year. a shorter contract so they can regoerkt in 18 months instead of two years. they didn't get the back pay they were hoping for for the eight days they were on strike and got no pay. the union sent me a statement from the president reading, quote, our members spoke loud and clear that this contract will begin to help them afford to live and work with in the most expensive areas of the country. with the ratification of this contract, reconciliation process with the court administration must begin. the court sent a statement saying "the court is eager to move forward together and welcomes the rushing of our employees tomorrow and the resuming of our regular operations. the quote they gave to the mercury news. in related news, during the strike we saw quite a few signs on the picket line referencing the new $200 million courthouse here in santa clara county down

gunmen who robbed the three swimmers including lochte, and told them to get on the ground. >> i was like -- so i'm not getting down on the ground. and the guy, pulled out his gun, cocked it, put it to my forehead and i was like whatever. he took our money, took my wallet. >> now luckily no one was injured, but it could have been much, much worse. there have been some incidents of petty thievery here at the rio games, but certainly this is the most high-profile incident. nathan adrian is happy that everyone is safe. trust me, so is everyone here at the rio olympics. on a more positive side let's take you inside to gymnastics. simone biles made it three gold medals when she woman the women's vaulting event. the first time the u.s. has taken this medal. today she's back in the gym but

very dry. so as we go into the day, we're expecting more of those same conditions. here at home we're going to see the temperatures heating up. here is a live look outside over san jose. we start out with clouds but we'll have some decreasing air quality with our moderate air quality along with the high ozone levels as our temperatures inch up up a couple more degrees. 61 heading up to 87. emergency clouds and a little bit watcher today. as we through the middle of the week, our heat continues to build with some 90 degree temperatures for the inland valleys. by late in the week our temperatures cool down a couple of degrees. and that will be for the weekend. so we'll talk about that. right now it's 56 degrees in the tri-valley as well as san francisco. and 61 degrees in the south bay. lower 50s for the north reaching into the low 90s there. 67 degrees in san francisco. we'll see a lot of wide spread 90s away from the coastline. as far as the wind speed starting out with the northerly

a busy start to the monday. >> a typical start. it's very calm. great news. earlier delays for b.a.r.t. cleared up. . no surprises for the tri-valley. toward the bay bridge a smooth, easy drive toward the bay bridge toll plaza. the cash lane is starting a little back up. that's the tradition. over the weekend, we had some hot weather. what is going on? >> it starts out cool conditions this morning. coastal fog and clouds. then we turn our attention to the north bay where we've had the wild fire burning over the weekend. the clayton fire is far to the north. here is clear lake there. to the south of clear lake. and the wind pattern has been lying and variable. we start out with a northern wind and it tushes more easterly lower in the atmosphere. 10 to 15 miles per hour. at the surface we'll have hot temperatures and winds coming in from the west with humidity only

at 14% later on in the day. let's head to laura with an update on what is happening with the fire. >> that's right. it's been devastating what happened in lake county. a story we continue to follow this morning as well. we've covered it all weekend long as breaking news. it's hard to imagine all the businesses destroyed and homes. firefighters are working tirelessly to save what is left in the flames' path. pete sarranos live 90 miles south of lower lake. a instructive scene playing out. look at the devastation behind you. >> reporter: a instructive scene. we're on main street. you can see what is left here. you have burnt up cars. and off in the distance that's a habitat humidity building. that's down following this clayton fire. it started on saturday off highway 29 near clayton creek and south of lower lake.

yesterday afternoon we saw the strong winds, high temperatures, and those spot fires start to pop up. and the last numbers we show for the fire is at 5% containment and at least 6,000 people have been evacuated as a result. and more than 8,000 folks are without power. at least 10 homes destroyed. we spoke yesterday with marine johnston. one of those evacuees who grabbed her dogs, left home, not knowing what she's going to come back to. >> it's sad. i was upset. i'm all done crying. i'm all done being upset and done with it. now it's just, you know, got to be strong. keep going. >> reporter: more than a thousand fire piers are battling the clayton fire as we speak. comes nearly a year after the folks dealt with a massive valley fire. we'll have more on that and updates in the next hour. >> thank you so much, pete. we've been tracking the latest on the story and he'll be

more chaos in the streets of milwaukee overnight... more chaos in milwaukee overnight. riots, looting, fire. a state of emergency is in effect after a violent couple of nights following a deadly police shooting. today in the bay tracie potts monitoring the situation. we know the national guard is standing by. it continues to escalade. >> yeah. >> reporter: as of this morning they call in the milwaukee police saying they have it under control. another violent night. not as bad in terms of fires and property damage. one officer went to the hospital after someone shot a rock at his windshield in his squad car. another person, an 18-year-old got shot in the melee. they had to take him to the hospital in an armored car in the middle of it all. police trying to get their hands around it with rocks and glass

bottles and bricks being thrown. what started as a peaceful demonstration. about a hundred people at a candle light vigil in the park. it started saturday when a black man in milwaukee was shot by an african-american officer. both of them about the same age. the police say that the man had a gun in his hand. he turned around and pointed it at the officer. that's when the officer shot him. and they say they've got body cam video to prove it. the video hasn't been released yet. >> thank you. a search for a permanent police chief of police continues in san francisco. scott is going to talk to us more about that in a second. city leaders are asking for the publics' input as they figure out the next permanent chief. they are holding five community meetings this month. the first tonight at 5:00 on dale avenue. it comes just days after acting police chief tony chaplain

announced he wants the role permanently. chaplain was named interim chief the same day the chief resigned following several controversies. malware hitting several major hotel chains. it goes back to h.e.i. affecting 20 of the u.s. properties including brands like marriott, hyatt, and intercontinental. they may have stolen payment card data during transactions to buy food, drinks, et. cetera. transactions. if you ever get a notice on your facebook feed telling you you've won a giant lottery surprise, it's a scam. scammers are sending facebook users fake notices claiming they have won the lottery. they are told to reach out over the facebook message. they have to pay several tax fees. one victim emptied his entire savings account.

highway patrol man threatened to shoot him telling the family he had blown two holes in wallton. wunz supervisors showed up it turned out it was a misunderstanding. the car rental company earlier reported one of the car's plates had been stolen. the car had not been stolen. one of the front plates had been stolen. the trooper misunderstood the report and thought he was dealing with a stolen car. wallton seen here with his daughter says the only reason i'm alive, probably, is because i'm, quote, a 48-year-old white man a scrawny one, at that, with a mickey mouse t-shirt and cargo shorts and not a person of color. we contacted the arizona patrol over the weekend. have not yet heard back. we should point out wallton is known around silicon valley for a book in which he recounts his own criminal case involving art fraud. we'll continue to track this case.

open. i was like where is the pop eye's? it depends on the time of day. >> right. maybe one next door. we'll have some great weather. maybe iced coffee today. it will be heating up as we go into the afternoon. we're starting out this morning with low clouds all across the bay area. also in san francisco. here is a live look outside from at&t park. and it is a nice, cool start. temperatures in the mid 50s. a little bit of a breeze there. we'll see it this afternoon. we are mostly at about 56 or 57 degrees. san jose at 61 degrees. and 53 degrees in napa. and today's high brings it up to 102 degrees in fairfield. compare that to 67 degrees in san francisco. and santa rosa at 88 degrees. 73 in oakland. a wide range of temperatures. as we start out with a light north wind and coastal clouds.

all of that clears out. our winds pick up and move on shore about 10 to 15 miles per hour. we'll say the same thing tomorrow with a northerly start and westerly breeze to cool things off later in the day. 100 in gill roy today. and palo alto 83 degrees. napa 90. oakland in the low 70s. concord 94 degrees. and 97 today in pleasanton. so looking at the big picture, high pressure continues to build just to the west of us. and that will influence our weather throughout the week. actually, our weather, our temperatures become intense with that heat. and some dry conditions ahead. looking at san francisco and what else to expect for the rest of the week, we go from the upper 60s today to the mid 70s by wednesday. that will be the warmest day of the week and it comes down a couple more degrees time for the weekend. we'll see more of the same for

the valley. up to 99 on wednesday. sizzling temperatures and then we'll drop it by about 10 degrees by saturday. heading over to mike, he's tracking a crash for the tri-valley. >> right. a pretty smooth drive for most of the bay but we did see it pop up. 680 southbound. before you get to stone ridge off 580 all the way down that's the stretch seeing the slowing. it's been building for the last seven or eight minutes. we have a crash there. it's northbound 680. that's a distractions for folks traveling to the area. that's why there's a concern. we're looking toward 84. that's not unusual for that portion of livermore. as we move over here we're looking at 242 also southbound slow from highway 4 to 680. the typical start for the morning commute. we see an earlier debris report. i'm watching for any complications. overall a smooth drive throughout the area. approaching the bay bridge with
