we're going to see a cooldown in the weekend. >> we're watching the temperatures but, also, yeah, the smoke unfortunately is probably the bigger issue for the weather forecast. starting off morning looking at low clouds. you will see temperatures climbing from the 50s and 60s we're seeing right now to still some numbers in the upper 80s around the east bay. san francisco, 65. mid 80s closer to san jose. and now, mike, with a little bit of breaking news this morning in the south bay. >> that's right, rob. i do have a crash in san francisco. i'll touch on that in the next report. i want to get down here to downtown san jose where the source of the problem is located. right here, santa clara street. 87 and 280. buses will be hitting the roads instead of the light rails. the station by the children's discovery museum. they're doing repair work in the area. it's dark here. there's the center for performing arts. there's the light rail station. 901 and 902 will be delayed. both lines traveling past this area because of that power

issue. back to you. >> thank you very much, mike. more breaking news we're following this time in new jersey. rescue crews are at the scene of a crash involving two commuter buses. it's happening in newark. here's a look from above. you can see the action not too far from there i think. here we go. here's a video of what happened from our sister station wnbc. they report a new jersey transit bus t-boned another bus. at least seven people are injured. this is the peak of the morning commute there. it's about 7:30 in the morning. chopper footage showed the injured being treated on the sidewalk nearby. one bus nearly split in half like an accordion. we're talking with our new york news desk. we will continue to update this story throughout the morning. right now we are still on top of breaking news out of rio as the scandal that rocks four u.s. swimmers. one of whom james feegen appeared in court this morning in rio.

he agreed to pay $11,000 fine to clear his involvement in what is now been determined a fabricated story about being robbed at gun point. total of four swimmers are caught up in this scandal that includes former gold medalist ryan lochte. jay gray has an update and new video showing what really happened. >> reporter: american swimmers leave rio just hours after officials released this surveillance video showing the men along with teammates were not robbed at gun point as they had said but instead confronted by security guards after damaging a gas station rest room. in a written statement the united states olympic committee apologized to the host country and said the behavior of these athletes is not acceptable, nor does it represent the values of team usa. now to the games where usain bolt dashed to a second gold

vandalism charges because it was posted here without a permit and we're also learning from the department of public works that they used the glue like substance that will cost the city thousands of dollars to actually when they had to remove this statue from the area. now, the group behind it is an an art kis group and posted the five naked trump statues around the country including places such as l.a. and cleveland. we had jessica talk with them by phone and the artist who put this statue together. >> we wanted someone who could not just cast an a. likeness but also do something utterly fer fiing. that was how we feel about trump. >> art is essentially made to create conversation, to get people thinking, to get them talking and stir some type of emotion. >> reporter: those statues were posted around the country, l.a., cleveland, seattle, and new york. all of them have been taken down. this last one here in the castro

district. there was talk that san francisco may get this statue but looks like those plans may be changing. we're live in the castro, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> all right, created quite a spectacle in the meantime. evacuees in southern california are still being told to stay away from their homes where the blue cut wildfire is burning. that fire is up to 20% containment. >> at least 36,000 acres are burned. many homes are already destroyed. "today in the bay's" cheryl hurd went out with firefighters to assess the burn zone. >> reporter: i am standing along highway 138. many of the homes had been reduced to twisted metal and ash. i went on a ride along with the san bernardino county fire captain and i talked with the man who was very concerned about looting. >> i've been through some pretty big fires. this one kind of amazed a lot of people. >> reporter: san bernardino fire captain john garber giving us a tour of what the fire is leaving behind. he said the right wood area has been through a lot of fires. many of the people there are so

confident that they stay when told to evacuate. at the height of the fire 82,000 people were told to leave the area. an undetermined amount of homes and structures are gone. things are not back to normal yet. people who live in right wood are working on it approximately carl smith's wife and dog left when told to evacuate but he stayed. he spends his evenings and nights patrolling the streets looking for looters. >> we just had some groups of kids that we watched. and i haven't seen anything and i haven't heard anything. but at night i just made a point of driving through the neighborhood to see if anybody was wandering around or looked like they might be up to no good. >> reporter: the sheriff's department arrested three people accuse of looting. several people are wondering what their next move will be. i talked to one family and we'll hear more from them later on in the newscast. i'm cheryl hurd, "today in the bay." >> all right, thank you have been much, cheryl.

south bay, yes. definitely big issue. >> for those kids heading you side for recess in the afternoon, air quality has been an issue. we saw that yesterday. and this morning right now you got hazy skies in san jose. temperatures around the bay area right now, 50s and 60s to start. there you go. 61 degrees. currently in san jose. we'll take a view over at san francisco. outside at&t park right now. 59 degrees with low clouds and into the tri-valley. you got temperatures close to 60 currently in dublin. speaking of air quality. "spare the air" day today. lowest air quality will be in the east bay and south bay. this is all the smoke coming up out of the south from the morning through midday into the afternoon. notice here air quality should start to improve in terms of smoke pollution as the winds pick up out of the west. that's a change we will see as we go from friday into the start of the weekend. those winds churning onshore will slowly start to improve the air quality numbers toward saturday and sunday. highs in the low 80s. 60s closer to san francisco. north bay temperatures in the

70s to submid 80s. around the tri-valley today. highs in the upper 80s to low 90s. from here the temperatures are going to trend cooler. onshore winds returning, san francisco cooling off in low 60s early next week and our inland temperatures dropping off even more. out of the 90s into the mid 80s by sunday and monday. but the big hope is that wind shift begins to push the smoke out of the bay area. some good news as we head through the weekend there. mike? >> all right, rob. take you down through big alert for the vta system. the speed sensors are not a problem. in the south bay, light rail will be disrupted past the children's discovery museum downtown. power issues in the area. bus bridge for the santa tar ressa alan rock line and along highway 87. we'll track that going through downtown san jose. that is the big alert for the south bay. meanwhile in san francisco we do have this crash that was active off the bay bridge at fremont. i say was because i just got word all lanes are clear.

this k-9 helped bust two men .. accused of posessing more officer jags on the case. this canine helped bust two men accuse of possessing more than 100 pounds of marijuana. sonoma deputy pulled them over this week at windsor and jags sniffed out the drugs, though they were double wrapped and covered in air freshener.

trend getting started a bit later today. we'll have temperatures out of the upper mid 90s across the tri-valley. upper 80s to near 90 today. 60s in san francisco. and no rain is in the forecast. flooded roadway. >> yes, glad you said no rain. the bellagio. no, unfortunately is a car crash. we haven't heard about major injuries but this is in concord. that car is getting soaked. this is just off clayton road. 1600 block of ga len da. this is basically the light show rauz r because of the flashing lights. crews taking care of this water main break. but again, that car involved there so we are finding out more details. as we take the map we're going to show you where this is. this is off of clayton road over at gelinda. this is not affected by this water. we have the b.a.r.t. station nearby as well. that's not effected. that's good news. 242 and 680. we'll get a look at the big bay shot. there are no major issues. as far as the freeways
