>> status quo. yes, the low clouds are back. misty skies could affect the commute. around the golden gate bridge. temperatures run ning on the col side. numbers in the 50s. a 55, patchy clouds around the north bay. afternoon temperatures are looking nice. low 80s across the valleys. mid 60s in san francisco. mike, starting off the morning, issues in the east bay. >> overall i dodge status quo, should i say that? do they make that anymore? a smooth flow of traffic. we're going to zoom in to san leandro where getting on the freeway may be an issue. we had a crash earlier on davis street northbound 880. it does look like the activity -- the tow truck should be arriving. it may be visible from 880 but you don't see slowing from the sensors. back to you. >> thank you, mike. we begin on the peninsula. stanford university cutting down

on high volume drinking on campus. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez is live from stanford. kris, effective immediately hard alcohol is now banned at all parties on campus. >> reporter: that's right. and this is all stanford university says it's about changing the culture surrounding the pressure for young people to drink. they say it's not related to the case of brock turner, however a lot of students on campus believe that that is, in fact, what this case is related to. let's show you the letter that the university sent out to its students, primarily it talks about why this policy came to be. and also mentions the fact that it is really just an effort to come up with a different way to think about alcohol. to generate solutions that reduce risks for students, reduce the pressure for students to drink and meaningfully change our culture, the stanford culture here on campus. the administration says the

policy change, again, is not directly related to the brock turner case. the former swimmer was convicted of sexually assaulting a young woman after a party where both of them were drinking hard alcohol. though he was under age. take a look at this new policy. it says no hard liquor for undergrads of housing, in common areas as well. no hard liquor bottles larger than 750 milliliters. that's the size of a wine bottle. students over the age of 21 can have beer and wine at undergrad parties but, again, only beer and wine. no hard liquor. grad students can have alcohol but only in the form of mixed drinks. no shots. this is a policy that might be hard to enforce here on campus but again, it does apply to the residences and also to the common areas. coming up at 5:30 we will show you how the policy here at stanford regarding hard alcohol compares to the campuses around the bay area. we're going to look at stanford, not only stanford but cal, santa

clara university, san jose state, to give you a little bit of base is of comparison. if you want to see the policy for yourself i can link you via twitter, krisnbc. at stanford, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." the judge who sparked backlash in sentencing brock turner is now boughing out of his next legal decision tied to his sex crime. judge aaron persky recused himself from an upcoming legal hearing. persky was supposed to hear a man convicted of child pornography. in a statement persky indicated that some may now doubt his impartiality. turner received a six-month sentence for sexual assault. it is 4:34. now to a developing story this morning. a rm toer santa clara county correctional deputy is facing criminal charges accused in a violent assault at the jail where he once worked. late last night authorities released the booking photo for one-time guard timmy tree. he's accused of beating an

inmate at the main jail in the fall of 2013. investigators say he kicked the inmate in the face and head and broke the inmate's jaw. at the time the district attorney looked over the case and declined to file charges. tree was on leave for about 18 months then left his job last august. redell will join us with more in the live report in our next half hour. right now only on nbc bay area we have video of a fight during a san francisco cab ride. it ended with the passenger allegedly gouging the driver's eye. here's the dash cam video provided by sf super cab that shows the passenger in the backseat. it's dark. we highlight it there in the circle. it's hard to tell but the passenger does something to the driver. then seconds later, the cab driver starts to hit the passenger. that you can see very clearly. the fight continues outside before police arrive. that's when the passenger is arrested. the driver's eye is going to be okay. the passenger has not yet been charged. 4:35. new details this morning.

we know the names of the two brothers who were shot and killed in san jose. we first brought you this story yesterday morning. the brothers were found in a bullet riddled car near spartan stadium. the victims are 27-year-old michael ramirez and 36-year-old artero ramirez. the weapon was an a krks k-47. no arrests have been made. happening today, president obama travis to baton rouge, louisiana, to look at the dam caused by the flood. 13 people were killed and more than 60,000 homes are damaged. local newspapers urge the president to cut his summer vacation short and pay a visit to the region. the white house says the president has been focused on the response. he's already signed a disaster declaration to try to help those victims. coming up on 4:37, still ahead, talks to restore famous landmark names at the yosemite national park fail. we'll show you where the trademark dispute was likely headed. and the morning starting off with some low clouds around san

the school year for students in in a matter of hours the doors will open and today will be the first day of the school year for students in the area of lake county. an area of course still trying to recover from clayton wildfire. students and staff at all lower lake schools are going to be returning to class this morning. of course that is the same area that was ravaged by fire ten days ago. the district delayed the start for one day in lower lake to allow more time to clean up and to give staff and students a chance to repair for today's opening. as they head back to school, firefighters continue to douse the remaining flames but are left from the clayton fire. it's currently as you see at 96% containme containment. after going through nearly 4,000

acres of land and hundreds of structures. police say the serial arsonist sparked that fire. across the state this morning, hundreds of crews remain on the front lines trying to contain several fires. this morning historic landmark is threatened. here's a look at the six largest fires burning in california. the most problematic is the chimney fire burning in san liss opisbo county. the landmark remains closed. not just the property but the cass is home to an extensive art collection. the chimney fire has burned more than 31,000 acres so far. it is just 35% contained. still ahead, tourism troubles taking a toll on paris. we're going to show you a dimming of numbers coming out of the city of lights. plus, hillary clinton talks about her health. even showing jimmy kimmel that she's fit for the presidency despite what the trump camp is claiming. that's coming up next. you're watching "today in the bay." ==pause for sot==

the judge ordered release of another 15,000 clinton e-mails. e-mails that were deleted from her server but recovered by the fbi. clinton fund-raising team will be in redwood city tomorrow. in the meantime, donald trump delaying a major immigration speech which was expected this thursday. trump's manager has signaled he may soften his stance on deporting 11 undocumented immigrants but trump reassured his supporters yesterday he will build a wall along the u.s./mexico border and have mexico pay for, well, it's starting to look like the fight to restore iconic names at yosemite national park. >> names that have been around for what seems like forrer. the park is involved in a trademark dispute with the company that recently lost its vendor concessions, delaware north. as a result legendary names recently underwent name changes. delaware north is requesting $51 million to allow the names, the

and of course as you head back to school, saratoga union back to school last week. today will be one of the spolts that sees those temperatures climbing to the warmest areas in the highs today in the mid 80s. there's a view of the low clouds. hanging around until 10:00. inner east bay. hazy sunshine in the afternoon. still some smoke at times across the south bay and tomorrow looks to be the warmest day of the week as high pressure strength thens. but it will prevent temperatures from getting too warm today. all day sea breeze. staying up from 15 to 20 miles per hour through 6:00 this evening. highs today closer to 80 in san jose. still staying in the mid 60s near san francisco. for the north bay, temperatures in the 70s to near 80. and mid 80s in the forecast today for the tri-valley and trending a little bit warmer as we head towards tomorrow. san francisco in the mid 60s and seven-day outlook see tomorrow, the rm whattest day of the week. as we approach the start of the weekend, we will see some cooling temperatures and could even see some drizzle in places
