welcome back to xfinity sunday. dave feldman, and lo o'neal. nfl players from around the league got political on sunday. the 15-year anniversary of the september 11, 2001 terrorist attacks. there were protests throughout the nfl. lo, you saw some of these. what did you make of the different forms of protests and rituals during the anthem today? >> it's interesting, because whoever is first is going to get the most credit is and that's colin kaepernick. when you look at these athletes and some of the things they're doing, now it's about educating yourself about these social in justices, and don't be a part of the problem. be a part of the solution. i know guys want to sit and take knee, and i'm all for it, but with free speech, and the second amendment, do more than that,

like colin. understand there's definitely issues that's going on, but we're going to first start takes care of the village, the inner cities and these people have to own up and be responsible for these actions, as well. together this is a great -- this is a great -- colin and the league and everyone understands thr there's problems, but what is the next step and at least we're talking about these issues. >> as a kmocommentator, you lik it. if you were a teammate, how would you feel? >> i know tommy smith from lemore, who is a relative of mine isn't '68 olympics, he's from a small town, so i understand some of the different things people had to do who went through different races. my thing is if you're involved in this deal, let your message carry. you're going to be a guy in the forefront, educate yourself about a lot of these issues. stand up for what you believe in, draw your line in the dirt and also show compassion because there's a lot of -- there's not

tuesday. her campaign said they would provide updates about wednesday and any other changes. reporting live in san francisco, christy smith, nbc bay area news. >> thank you, christy. it was 15 years ago, al-qaeda terrorists crashed four airplanes into the world trade center center, the pentagon, and t fien pennsylvania. a beautiful picture here. today americans came to remember the nearly 3,000 people killed in the 9/11 attacks. as loved ones have been doing every single year since 2001, they gathered at the memorial this morning paying their respects to the victims. also at the pentagon, president obama laying a wreath in honor of the victims. and then in shanksville, pennsylvania, hundreds more coming together to honor the heroes of flight 93.

now that flight, united flight 93 was bound for sfo and many paused to remember the victims of that attack. we're joined with more, chuck. >> reporter: in a city that has fewer first responders than it needs, the 9/11 ceremony made it a point to honor those who run towards messengers th towards emergencies than from them. more than 600 people filled the bas basili basilica, and marched towards the estate of the terror attacks in 2001. >> i have some friends in new york city that died in that and it's still hard for me to even deal with it, but i'm coping with it. >> my mom and a lot of my family is from new york so i just feel like coming out here to pay my respects. >> reporter: more than 100 of those who showed up, first responders for 9/11 remembrances like this one marked more the

[ bell ringing ] >> the last alarm honors firefighters who died in the line of duty that day. 343 firefighters and paramedics died in the collapse of the twin towers. this year san francisco's annual september 11th remembrance uncollidu included the reading of all of their names and included an unveiling of a piece of metal from one of the twin towers. >> it is our way of keeping the courage and selfless know by so many in that tragic day in our hearts and in our minds. >> the san francisco fire department formally requested the rem brans thembrance that w installed at a later day in the future. >> reporter: and in saratoga, bingham is considered to be one

tributes from the world trade and around the country. san jose police are looking for this person captured on camera lighting a car on fire and speeding off in a getaway car. the arson happened about 3:00 this morning near keldon in east san jose. firefighters were able to control the flames in a matter of minutes and investigators are asking the help in finding the person in the hooded sweatshirt and the driver of the wading car. also, in san jose, police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who sent three people to the hospital. this is at allen rock and pleasant ridge avenues. three people were pinned inside the car that had to be hit and were extradited out of the car and were taken to the hospital with severe injuries and the suspect pled the scene and has not been caught. a san jose please state of emergency in effect right now. starting today, 47 investigators have been reassigned and will hit the streets as patrol

officers. the move comes as the department struggles to hire enough officers. rick boone is live in san jose where why the move still doesn't have people feeling safe, rick? >> reporter: hey, there, terry. i talked to a lot of people in the downtown part of san jose and a lot of people a little nervous y they're all talking about those response times, concerned they're going to remain slow for a lot of folks, while the police department is trying to get a little bit creative to make sure they keep as many as 500 officers or close to that number to protect about 1 million people. >> and this person just cut me out of nowhere and started zig-zagging in front of me and i really wish there was an officer there. >> reporter: not everyone in san jose has faith in the city's plan to reassign 47 cops from desk jobs to street patrols. >> having more police officers may not even prevent crime or detour crime. >> reporter: council repeatedly approved a state of emergency meant to address ongoing police

staffing shortage, the department who in 2008 had 1,400, and now down to 855. new recruit numbers are down. on friday, three cadets in the academy. >> some start today, and some start next week. >> reporter: the goal of a minimum of 500 police officers in the patrol division still fall short. still the police chief says no matter the numbers, there's no need to worry. >> san jose is safe, but it's -- that doesn't happen by accident. it happens from the men and women's backs every day that have been working tirelessly and they need help. >> reporter: an uneasy september for victims who fear of getting victimized every day. >> every day, it seems like it could happen at any time. >> reporter: now the city does have one type of financial solution here. they want to put in a pay increase to get more officers inside this department, and coming your way at 11:00, tonight i'm going to tell you

talking about the work week coming up and also getting a little bit cooler outside. >> yes, in fact, temperatures cooling off in a big way. we've even got some showers to talk about it. i want to show you what we're looking at on the satellite and radar. the storm system coming out of the pacific northwest, you can see with it we don't have a lot of rain, but it is going to cool things off. here's what you can expect just to break down the week ahead. we're looking at this system monday night into tuesday. san francisco, to santa cruz mountains, and monterrey, that's

about it, who will not likely see the showers, our inland valleys, san jose, the east bay and the north bay. temperatures are going to cool off. we're at 59 degrees, san francisco, 60, and the tri-valley. temperatures tomorrow, 74 degrees. jacket weather for the peninsula, 68 degrees there. 75 for the south bay. so temperatures cooler even in san francisco tomorrow, only looking at 60s for a daytime high. winds will pick up tomorrow as it moves in by tomorrow night, you'll notice gusty winds at the coastline anywhere from 5 to 15-miles-per-hour. putting the futurecast into motion, this is what you'll notice as we head towards monday and tuesday. the drizzle monday night will turn to some light showers along the coastline, the santa cruz mountains and even across the north bay mountain, that will be about it. we'll have the potential of seeing some light showers even by lunchtime in san francisco and half moon bay and along highway 1. once we get rid of that, we're
