some of the warmest temperatures areas around the south bay. that's where things are busy this morning for your monday commute. >> we are starting to see more traffic build down here. we'll get a quick look at the bay. no major surprises. north 85 coming in toward sunniville we have a crash shy of the fremont ramp there. slower drive on the approach there. 101 shows typical slowing at 680. the build is on for silicon valley. new this morning, three people are dead killed when a small plane bound for the bay area crashed into a parking lot at the reno tahoe airport. >> they have not identified the

three people inside of this plane. this happened during their take-off. they were attempting to fly here in the bay area. we hear from officials and they say the plane, a piper cherokee crashed at the reno airport around 6:00 p.m. yesterday. a spokesman says the plane was leaving the west runway when that crash occurred. no one on the ground was injured by this crash. several cars were damaged in the parking lot as a result of crash debris. it's not registered to anyone at this time. last time it was registered, it was out in miami. the cause of this crash is still unknown. national transportation safety board will be on site to conduct an investigation. >> thank you very much. breaking news this morning out of memphis, tennessee, where four adults and six children have been killed in an early morning house fire.

some of the long-time memphis firefighters were calling this the single largest loss of life. they personally witnessed from a fire in their careers. investigators have not determined the cause of that fire or if the home had a working smoke detectors. hillary clinton will not come to the bay area today taking time off to recover from pneumonia. clinton appeared unsteady after attending a september 11 ceremony in new york. she was helped into a van. clinton went to her daughter's apartment and same out saying she felt fine. her campaign announced she was diagnosed with pneumonia friday. this comes after questions about her health from the trump campaign. >> it's the kind of thing where clinton has to tough it out. she has to tough it out. >> secretary clinton has been on the campaign trail 1 1/2 years. it's natural to have ups and

downs. >> clinton was schedule to attend a fund-raising event today in san francisco. that will go on as planned. she may make an appearance via tell conference. donald trump was at the 9/11 memorial service in new york. he and clinton are off the campaign trail today. trump will be in baltimore tomorrow. he's scheduled to speak at the national guard association conference. the biological fair of a girl whose death inspired new anti-bullying laws is calling for change in california's family laws. audrey committed suicide after being bullied and her biological father never lived with her. eventually had his relationship with his daughter cut off as part of a custody dispute. today he will attend a news conference where organizers hope to call the law makers to change family law in the state. they want to allow wider access for logical parents who don't

have direct relationships with their kids. donations are pouring in for the family of a little boy killed by a suspected drunk driver this weekend. the 3-year-old died friday evening when his mother's car ran out of gas on 680 in san ramon and an suv plowed into them. a go fund me site is set up to help the family and raised more than $25,000. the suspect in that dui crash is the wife of an alameda county sheriff's deputy. chp is asking for the public's health solving a crash that left a motorcyclist dead in oakland. they found a man near the 27th street on ramp yesterday morning. witnesses say a dark van made an illegal lane change causing him to crash. officers have not confirmed that. they are asking for the public's help finding out exactly what

=sam/rail= a police staffing emergency in san jose is forcing some residents to consider taking matters into their own hands. 6:12. a police staffing emergency is forcing residents taking matters into their own hands. many are considering protecting themselves as they struggle to hire enough officers to put on the streets. 47 investigators were reassigned to street officer positions. council recently approved a state of emergency meant to address the ongoing police staffing shortage. the department had 1,400 officers back in 2008. now eight years later it's down to less than 900. some residents are considering doing their own police work. it's a shame we can't have

nobody protect us. that's what we wait and hope for for somebody to take matters into their hands. i guess we have to do it on our own. >> police want to remind residents they never encourage anyone to become vigilantes. the city is boosting officer pay to increase recruitment. oakland international airport will be far more international. officials announced nonstop coverage to copen hailingen, denmark and barcelona, spain, will begin next year because of a partnership to norwegian air shuttle. nonstop service to barcelona will begin june 7. two flights per week to both european destinations. tesla ceo says the electric car company is making major improvements to its auto pilot system. musk says this update will reduce the number and severity of crashes involving auto

pilots. in may, you might remember a florida man using the self-driving mode was killed when tesla failed to brake before colliding with a semi truck. these upgrades are commonplace in tech. >> this really was a matter of life and death. >> it raises the question whether the tesla auto pilot was ready for the road. early versions on the phone don't kill us. josh brown who uploaded videos today, showing off his new tesla contributed to his own crash, but if musk is making a program he said would have prevented brown's crash, you have to wonder if the first version was good enough. here is what should be a safe upgrade. apple will send out ios 10 to phones tomorrow. we'll talk more about it tuesday. remember to charge up your moan tonight, clear out space.

half of them are thinking about moving somewhere else because of the cost of living. the median cost of a house is $800,000. a starter fixer-up in palo alto is well over $1 million. do we have too many jobs? >> a frenzied job growth is disruptive in a negative way. it really damages the social fabric. it damages the opportunity for people who aren't in those $200,000 a year high-tech jobs to live and survive here. >> palo alto is limiting the height of new office buildings. the problem is if you get a job in redwood city, palo alto is a great place to live. so you can't control that.

unravel details leading to this deadly school crash. the bus driver was killed and 18 passengers was injured in the crash yesterday. victims were rushed to bay area hospitals. at least 15 were students. the driver veered into a support bridge near a terminal. the bus was carrying high school football players from the denver suburbs. san jose police are looking for this person captured on camera lighting a car on fire. you see the explosion there. then he speeds off in a get away car. the arson happened early yesterday morning in east san jose. firefighters were able to control the flames in a matter of minutes but they want to find the person in the hooded sweatshirt in that video. a warning about misleading

people of cobb, anderson springs will mark a somber anniversary. a year ago today the deadly valley fire started. it torched 40,000 acres and ranled on for days, destroying more than 1,200 homes causing more than $1 billion in damage. four people were killed in the fire. the valley fire was one of the most destructive fires in california's history. a year later, the region is bouncing back and rebuilding. oakland is holding community meetings to hear what people want to see if their next chief of police. there is a meeting at 6:00 on martin king jr way. there will be 10 meetings in all this month. they had six police chiefs leave in the last five years. three drifters accused of

killing two people in the bay area are back in court today. they will be in marin county court for pretrial hearing accused of killing a canadian backpacker and north bay man hiking with his dog. both murders happening last year. investigators believe the motive was robbery. oakland police are looking for a suspect who sexually assaulted a woman blocks from east oakland pride elementary school. it happened saturday night. the victim was taken to the condition.nd is in stable officers have use offed a suspect and they are looking for that person. the search for a hit-and-run driver in san jose is continuing after a crash that sent three people to the hospital early yesterday morning. firefighters there say three people were pinned inside the car that was hit. they had to be extricated and

early morning fire at a florida mosque might be connected to the orlando night club shooter and was intentionally set. that fire started after midnight. firefighters quickly put it out and no one was injured. surveillance video shows someone approaching the mosque just before the fire started. the gunman who killed 49 people in june attended the same mosque. new research shows parents are giving their children the wrong dose of medicine and in some cases that mistake could be a deadly one. researchers at nyu tested more than 2,000 parents to see if they could accurately measure out a dose of medication using the measuring cup and syringe. 65% of the time those errors would have led to an overdose. 21% of parents measured more than doubled the recommended dose. donald trump talking about rigged systems. he says head of the fed janet

they are notifying the next of kin of the victims. we do know they were leaving reno and that crash took place during a take-off. they were slated to land at the san carlos airport. according to officials with the federal aviation administration, they say this piper cherokee crashed at the airport 6:00 a.m. yesterday. the plane was leaving the west runway when this crash occurred. no one on the ground was injured. several cars were damaged in that airport parking lot. we ran a background check on the plane. it's not registered to anyone at this time. last time it was registered it was out in miami. cause of this crash is unknown. we do know the national transportation safety board will be on site today to conduct their investigation. >> thank you, pete. hillary clinton will not be coming to the bay area today. she is taking off time to

recover from pneumonia. clinton appeared unsteady yesterday after attending a september 11 ceremony in new york city. she went to her daughter's apartment and came out saying she felt fine. her campaign announced she was diagnosed with pneumonia friday. this comes after questions about her health from the trump campaign. >> her supporters would say this treads on sexism. >> she's been on the campaign trail year an a half. it's natural to have ups and downs. >> she was scheduled to attend an event in san francisco. the event will go on as planned and clinton will make an appearance via teleconference. >> it was very hot and humid sunday. i got a taste of this this weekend. i'll stay with the bay area.
