this morning. if you're headed into the city, it will be great to start the day. 49 in the north bay. sam in napa, looking at 40s across the north bay. visibility there down to one mile. everywhere else looking pretty good. if you're coming in from the north bay, you may need to pay attention to mike. 80 degrees at redwood. >> no major problems for those roadways. speed sensors looking good. the bay bridge, no waited. we'll show you the live note past the coliseum. southbound 880 at 16th, overnight there was a crash, busted up cement on the barrier. we'll track the commute to see how things build there. we're following breaking news in the south bay where emergency crews are on scene. >> we have the latest.

kris, what's going on out there? >> good morning, sam and laura. i'll start with saying the police officer i talked to said this could have been much worse. never know what's going to happen when you talk about a gas line leak. they said they could hear the hissing coming from that gas line where that car is you see in the distance. as soon as nay arrived on scene, they kept people about 400 feet out. only one house was evacuated of its residents for precautionary measures. what you see the officers doing is trying to get clues out of that car. that's the car that slammed into the gas line. right now it is unoccupied. the driver of the car is not here on the scene. i did ask the police officer if it is registered as a stolen car. that officer said no. pg&e is also on the scene. apparently it was hit in just the right way, that gas line, that they were able to swish the gas off immediately. there was no imminent danger to the public or the folks nearby.

we are here on virginia avenue and capri. the nearest school is capri elementary school. there will be no impact to the school day. the police officer says the investigation should wrap up within the next 30 minutes. by the time the kids roll into school about 8:00 this morning, they won't even know what happened. only one family was asked to leave home as a precaution. they're back home safe and sound. the neighborhood is pretty quiet. we will probably get out of here as well. in campbell, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> new this morning, three people injured, two critically after an suv slammed into a utility pole in the south bay. firefighters say it happened before midnight at meridian and minnesota avenue in the willow glen neighborhood. firefighters say the third woman inside the car suffered minor injuries. they didn't detail the injuries of the two women who were considered critically hurt. the cause of that crash is still under investigation. the woman at the center of a

sexual abuse case, a police sex abuse case surrounding several local law enforcement agencies is expected back in the bay area today. >> her arrival could have a major impact on that investigation. "today in the bay's" pete suratos live in oakland with what her return from florida means for the criminal case against several police officers here. good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning, laura and sam. what it means is the alameda county d.a.'s office the file criminal charges against the seven officers they believe may be connected to this 19-year-old. her lawyer, pamela priegs, will hold a news conference here around 11:00 a.m. it could be similar to what we saw yesterday in florida when jasmine was released from jail. he took a plea deal for assaulting a guard while in rehab. richmond pd arranged for her to go to this rehab. that's something the city disputes. richmond pd was connected to

jasmine in all this. her lawyer says she's been a sex abuse victim since she was 12 years old. >> whether or not someone gave her a dollar or a dime is irrelevant. the fact she's alive today is a miracle. >> now, the d.a.'s office is pursuing criminal charges against seven current and former officers. five of those officers from oakland pd. there's no word if jasmine will be here. live in oakland, pete suratos, "today in the bay." all new this morning. after debating for many hours, an east bay superintendent is out of a job. five hours ago just after midnight, the school district ousted sam dobbs following a fiery meeting. >> dobbs is corrupt, he's crooked. >> people on both sides of the debate showed up. in the end the board decided to terminate dobbs' contract after

a 3-month-long investigation. dobbs has been on paid leave since june after his decision to allow ex-san francisco 49er ray mcdonald to come speak to students. at the time mcdonald was facing sexual assault charges. the board also reviewed a violent outburst thatting too place during a board meeting last year. we spoke to dobbs prior to the decision and he claimed he's being targeted by the board. >> the issue is how do you respond to the vendetta. my goal has always been to stay professional. >> we've reached out to dobbs for a response following the board's decision last night, but we have not yet heard back. >> police in palo alto are investigating what appears to be a heartless crime, the theft of thousands of dollars from the collection baskets passed around during sunday church service. "mercury news" reports someone stole up to $10,000 from the baskets at the cornerstone community church this past sunday. the church is on east meadow drive. police say they're trying to track down a person of interest

at the st. john vee en any community center. >> happening today, the man accused of terrorizing a south bay neighborhood by shooting at passing drivers over several months is expected in court. 30-year-old michael lieu wiewis arrested two weeks ago. investigators say at least ten times over four months he fired at on coming cars in the blossom hill neighborhood. no one died, but police say at least three people were injured by either bullets or shrapnel. a 19-year-old woman accused of beating and torturing a homeless man to death is pleading not guilty to murder charges, one of six people accused of brutally assaulting the man at golden gate park in may. his body was found in a lake. cell phone video captured image of the suspect forcing the man through the park. she was found in arizona and expedited to san francisco. cracking cold cases by rehiring a familiar face. the san francisco police department is making a move.

75 later this afternoon in oakland, clearing out nicely. 83 in livermore and 83 today in san jose. even a look at san francisco today, close to 70 degrees. our storm track completely shut off. we've got two systems. one to our northwest and one to our northeast. unfortunately for us, we're right in the middle and won't see any rainy time soon. the heat will be the main story over the next couple days. it will start to build this afternoon with mid 80s. tomorrow back into the 90s for the tri-valley and the 90s build for saturday, sunday and even the start next week, we're talking 90s for monday. saturday and sunday close to 100 degrees in the tri-valley and the south bay. even in san francisco this weekend, warming back up into the mid 70s. possibly hitting 80 degrees by sunday. let's talk to mike and toss things over. >> still light on the roads. good morning, folks. still a light commute. only 5:20.

schools are getting a big boost in fighting back against the flew. the al meet that county health department is providing free flu vaccines. that campaign called shoo the flu begins next month. a new study just released this morning suggests major difficulties with math could be linked neurologically to an abnormality in the brain. researchers at georgetown and stanford say the problem is in procedural memory, also linked to developmental disorders like dyslexia and language problems. exciting new hope in the fight against breast cancer. a revolutionary test is showing it can be better at fighting cancer, called molecular breast imaging or mbi.

the fog is creeping around. the bay bridge toll plaza i found flashing lights right there off the emergency. folks coming over the 880 flyover will not see the lights until the very end. folks on the approach off 580 will see that. we'll see the metering lights caused this backup. breaking news out of campbell that we first brought you at the top of the hour. the search is on right now for the driver who smashed a car into a gas line near capri elementary school and took off from the scene. that crash happened just after 4:00 this morning. pg&e was called in to cap the line. there was never a threat to the school or nearby homes. a controversial ebay soup tep dent is ousted. hayward unified school board voted overnight to get rid of sam dobbs despite pleas from students and staff to keep him. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell joining us live from hayward with what led up to this decision. there were a lot of people on both sides of the argument this

morning. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. one of the issues that led to the ouster of hayward unified school superintendent sam dobbs not fond of him inviting a former nfl player. this is a photo where you see former 49er ray mcdonald speaking to an assembly gathered there at the invitation of then superintendent dobbs. the problem is the superintendent did no, sir disclose to the students that mcdonald had been accused of domestic violence and sexual assault. you have last it in's board meeting, about 100 people showed up, mostly in support of dobbs. it became loud at times. one woman stood up to shout down one of the speakers. the superintendent himself was allowed to speak. another issue dogging dobbs, a violent outburst that took place during a board meeting last year when dobbs was accused of getting into a sfiet that led

her attorney, pamela price, held a news conference yesterday from florida with jasmine silent by her side. price says she wants to help jasmine turn her life around. >> celeste guap is dead. we are happy to say that celeste guap is dead. whether or not somebody gave her a dollar or a dime is irrelevant. the fact that she is alive today is a miracle. >> last friday the alameda county d.a. says criminal charges will be filed against seven bay area police officers. jasmine's return from florida means the criminal case can now begin. her attorney is expected to hold a news conference in oakland later this morning. a woman who accuses basketball star derrick rose of rape is trying to make a public appeal ahead of the start of her civil case. the woman is not identifying her sechl. but today in san francisco, she and her attorney plan to talk about her $20 million lawsuit. her trial begins next month. that woman claims that rose and two friends raped her after a night of drinking in 2013.

rose's attorneys are calling this case, quote, a money grab. a suspected kidnapper is off the streets of antioch. police say bernard cane is in jail after he tried to lure two girls on two separate occasions. police say a 13-year-old girl was walking on 10th street on her way to school when cane grabbed her and attempted to sexually assault her. she was able to break free. police say back in january a similar scenario unfolded with another girl walking home from school in that same area. he was identified as a suspect in that crime as well. he's now facing multiple charges. an alleged bank robber is behind bars this morning. police say sunshine kinder was arrested in connection with two bank robberies earlier this year. she was found at a ramada inn in antioch after a month-long investigation. bystanders, animals and

police, all of them shot with a bb gun. this happened in south san jose on santa theresa boulevard. one of the beebees struck a man in the leg after leaving a vet clinic. an employee says she's grateful no one was injured. >> the customer was holding his cute little dog. i was standing right here. he was standing right here. and it kind of just shot and hit him in the leg, just missed the dog. >> san jose police say the bb gunman also aimed at police officers who responded to the 911 call. police were unavailable to find the shooter. >> congestion and noise, that's what neighbors have had to deal with. cavalia set up shop in downtown san jose. seem people living in nearby apartments say as they've had to

today. 69 for san francisco. so another warm day even at the coast lean, warming up there. 76 there. 83 for the south bay. our storm track will push way to the north so we won't have any rain to talk about, at least in the short term. as we get a look at the temperatures, what you'll notice is things will start to heat up not only across the bay area, but across the central valley. tahoe looking at 70s. nice warm weather. saturday, walnut creek up to 94 degrees. napa pushing to the 90s by sunday. all in all, temperatures warming up in a big way. in fact, about 20 degrees warmer than we were just yesterday. here you can see our temperatures on that seven-day, very hot by saturday and sunday, pushing mid 9 os. even in san francisco, warm, mid 70s at the beaches. what's happening on the roadways. >> a little lower gear in the south bay, right on schedule. let me show you that slowing on our live camera at highway 101.

live camera shows northbound seeing all this flow of traffic. standard first burst kicking in, slowing us down about 5:50. looking at the maps showing the extent of the backup. north 101 past our camera to oakland road. speeds are already coming up. what we don't often see is over here where we see the return of this orange highlighting, that's what anthony is talking about, low clouds and fog. watch napa, santa rosa, still all right for the drive. but it could mean an issue as far as where you drive. maybe a little lower visibility from time to time. the bay bridge backup is right there at the toll plaza. no surprises and no problems out of the maze. good stuff. back to you. >> loud and clear. san francisco's muni answering the call for cell phone service for the underground trains. the proposal will get you the service for the bargain basement
