weeke weekend, it was crazy hot. >> just like it was over the weekend. things improving today, sam and laura, as we get going for your day. i'll show you from the golden gate sky camera. a little foggy this morning, especially from the north bay. keep that in mind especially the north bay commuters. temperatures are still mild, back into the 60s, still 70 in livermore. once the sun comes up, we'll have warm spots like the tri-valley, walnut creek, fairfield close to 90 degrees. san jose 87 today. san francisco back to 71 today, even oakland after seeing a high of 90 yesterday, you'll be closer to 80. >> mike has the morning off once again. he'll be back tomorrow. i do want to take you to an incident we have over in pleasant hill. it's the entry ramp to the pleasant hill ramp getting on to 24 heading into the caldecott tunnel. that's the only thing we've got

other than the wide-open lane. that's just blocking the on-ramp to 24. >> all right, anthony. thank you. a tower of flames shooting high over a san jose neighborhood. look at this. new video showing the gas-fueled blaze that prompted the entire neighborhood to be evacuated. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell at that home this morning. how is the situation looking now, bob. >> reporter: good morning, laura and sam. the fire department has declared this scene here to be safe. we're at white road and lead court. unfortunately the four people who live in this home are temporarily without a home. this started around 7:20. you can see how serious this fire was. the reason the flames shot so high into the sky is because the gas meter at this home caught fire. natural gas was feeding the flames and prolonging the fire. when the fpd arrived, they had to call for more reenforcements and evacuate surrounding homes.

another challenge for the fire department was the overhead power lines caught fire which made firefighting much more difficult. it took about 75 minutes for the fire department to finally shut off the gas and get this fire under control. >> we don't know if that's a cause or an ef sfekt. if it burns through the plastic pipes or burns through the plastic housing into the meter, it will cause a gas-fed fire. we don't know if that was the cause of the fire, or if the fire started someplace else and spread to that. >> fortunately nobody was hurt. the "mercury news" is reporting this morning this fire started as a result of frying chicken here in the back yard. just under 350 customers who lost power, but the lech tris think has been turned back on in this east san jose neighborhood at the intersection at white and lead where you can see there's a tremendous amount of damage that caught home last night. live in san jose, bob redell,

"today in the bay." >> that is a carry looking scene. thank you very much for that report. in the meantime, a student sickened by tuberculosis has parents and other students very concerned at one oakland high school. last night there was an informational session held at skyline high. up to 300 sue departments and others will be tested. experts say it's hard to spread and there are effective drugs to treat it. 4:34 right now. friends and family are morning the death of a san jose student. it happened at sequoia national park east of fresno. he drown during a trip with other students and school staff members. 19-year-old billy nguyen, a kin niecesology major began struggling while swimming saturday afternoon. other members of the group who attempted to rescue him were unsuccessful.

he was part of the outdoor adventures recreation program. new developments in new jersey and new york. authorities say they're not looking for more suspects. the fbi does not believe it's the work of a larger terror cell. 28-year-old ahmad rahami was shot several times during a gunfight that played out in lyndon, new jersey. he was conscious as you saw on the video, being loaded onto an ambulance. investigators believe rahami is seen on surveillance video near where the devices were detonated and recovered in the chelsea district of manhattan. his online activity is bl skrut sniezed. >> we'll continue to conduct investigative activity to make sure we completely understand his social network. >> investigators have already identified the suspect's finger presents on an unexploded pressure cooker uncovered near the manhattan blast. he's already been charged in connection with the police gun

the wrind returning off the ocean, cooler weather across the bay. 87 for san jose. 89 as well for walnut creek. you'll notice the coastline back into the 70s, with san francisco, same deal for santa cruz, not as hot as yesterday. temperatures will come down. the good news is the air quality will start to improve. today moderate air quality for the east bay and south bay and like we just saw yesterday after three spare-the-air days in a row. across southern california, showers and thunderstorms, feen necks and las vegas. all this activity is associated with hurricane cane. for us we've got a trough that will develop over the next couple days, dig in across the west coast, in fact, bring our temperatures below average as we head toward thursday and eventually friday. here is a look at the seven-day forecast. temperatures warm for the inland valleys, upper 80s, close to 90.

pled guilty to second degree murder in exchange for a 15-year-to-life sentence. investigators say he'll testify against the other two. now to a followup on a story we fers told you about last week. someone left a dog at a vet in martinez badly injured with a gunshot wound to his leg. animal services says the dog which they named bullet is now waiting to be adopted and went to a foster home saturday morning. bullet's leg had to be amputated. the 9-month-old german shepherd recovered pretty well. investigators are trying to find out who shot him. the giants-dodgers rivalry got heated last night. then the giants bullpen overheated in a heartbreaking loss. >> another implosion for the giants' bullpen. first, there was this. madison bumgarner, and puig. things get testy, pushing and shoving. at this point of the game it was

we'll start with weather. we'll show you the sky cam this morning. we have fog and clouds that made a return back into the bay area. temperatures will be cooling off as you get going into the afternoon. so that's some good news. in fact, you may need to bring the jacket with the little ones this morning. we're looking at 50s even in san francisco. you can see the golden gate bridge. fog there. not that bad. visibility still at about ten miles. hasn't lowered all that much because we're looking at visibility down in santa rosa. same deal in half moon bay. if you're taking highway 1, you may run into clouds there. temperatures a little cooler than the last kourm mornings. that's going to be the trend for the next couple mornings. don't put away the jackets just yet. fall starts on thursday. you may need them as we head towards the first full day of fall. temperatures warm for the inland valleys, cooler at the coastline, 71 for san francisco, 74 for santa cruz. oakland at 80, san jose up to 87 degrees. as we mention, mike has the morning off. want to take you to
