from enforcing it. throughout the city, you would see armored trucks, national guardsman and officers dressed in riot gear. protesters remained vigilant and calm, sometimes chanting, sometimes silently walking the streets vowing to stand their ground. >> don't brush it off as we want to riot. kids are out here, mothers, fathers. they're not out here because they want to riot. there's something going on. stop killing my people. >> that's not how the area congressman saw it when he made these controversial remarks. >> the anger, they hate white people because white peek are successful and they are not. yes, it is. it's a welfare state. >> he has since apologized saying, quote, i apologize to those i offended and hope we can bring peace and calm to charlotte. >> charlotte's demonstrators are demanding change while calling

for the release of keith lamont scott's video. >> i have seen the video, and i agree with the assessment both by our chief as well as the family, the family has seen the video also, and it is ambiguous. there's not a clear picture. the body camera, of course, is moving, and the view is obscured at certain points. the dash camera is only a partial view. i think that it is a challenge. it is ambiguous. and this is one reason why we want to have time for the investigation to continue to gather all the piece of the puzzle. >> charlotte's police chief said the video did not provide absolute video evidence prior to shutting stop shooting. scott's family lawyer wants the video made public. >> what i see in that video is an individual sitting in a car, who gets out in a calm, peaceful manner, he never appears to be aggressive.

it seems like he's a tad confused. i don't know if he's yetting yelled at from too many directions. his hands are down. there appears to be an object in his hands, at the moment he is shot. he is actually stepping backwards. the family wants the police department to release both of the videos that we saw today and we want the public to see it, let them draw their own conclusions. joining us from charlotte is sarah rosario. good morning, sarah. are more protests expected today? >> as of right now, we haven't been told about any more protests expected today, but we can expect them to be peaceful, or we're hoping they will be peaceful as they were last night. a stark contrast to how they were just two nights ago with police having to come out in riot gear, having to use the tear gas and rubber bullets to try to disperse the crowd and calmthem down. there were some tense moments last night, but police officers tell us people inside the crowd, faith leaders. other people who were remaining

calm were able to calm down other people who were getting tense during parts of the protest last night. officers were paying attention to people out there. we are seeing they were able to enforce -- they didn't enforce the curfew because of the peaceful protest. what people were most upset about is what you guys really touched on the most, the release of that video of the shooting death of keith scott. we're hoping to get more information about that today. and if any more protests come out. we'll be sure to keep you updated. reporting live in charlotte, sarah rosario. >> thank you very much. >> the oklahoma police officer who shot and killed an unarmed black man is facing charges. betty shelby has been charged with first degree manslaughter in the death of terence crutcher. in the last few hours, shelby was booked and released on $50 bond. the formal charge s were welcomd by crutcher's twin sister

threatening the country and their own communities. >> the rioting in our streets is a threat to all peaceful citizens, and it must be ended and ended now. the main victims of these violent demonstrations are law abiding african-americans who live in these communities and only want to raise their children in safety and peace. >> that came after trump seemed to suggest drugs are influencing the nightly protests out of charlotte. >> i will stop the drugs from flowing into our country and poisoning our youth and many other people. and if you're not aware, drugs are a very, very big factor in what you're watching on television at night. >> a trump spokesman rejected the assertion he was speaking of the charlotte protesters. however, those comments come

when trump is working to build his support among african-american voters, a group that is resoundingly supporting clinton by large margins. that was clear when the trump campaign quickly distanced itself from its ohio county chair cathy miller who said this to the guardian. >> i don't think there was any racism until obama got elected. we never had problems like this. i'm in the real estate industry. there's none. now, with the people with the guns and shooting up neighborhoods and not being responsible citizens. that's a big change. i think that's a philosophy that obama has perpetuated on america. and if you're black and you haven't been successful in the last 50 years, it's your own fault. >> miller has since told a local ohio publication, i am apologizing that it's causing all the problems for mr. trump, not for the statements. it's not just miller who put trump in a situation. the dalai lama ridiculed the

house intelligence committee ranking member adam schiff who were briefed on nearly all the nation's intel secrets. this comes as another hack exposed sensitive white house information, including the first lady's passport. nbc's pete williams has details. >> reporter: to prepare michelle obama's visit to the middle east last year, a contract employee working for the white house got an image of her passport, including personal data, which were obscuring and sent it on to his own non-secured gmail account. e-mails from his account including the passport have now been posted on the website of a hacker group called dc leaks which u.s. officials suspect is run by russian intelligence. the site says if such sensitive information can be hacked, quote, we will see the fall of our country. the same site last week posted campaign related e-mails hacked from colin powell. part of a string of cyberattacks on political targets u.s. officials say may be intended to

influence volters. >> we're deeply concerned the russians are meddling, and from what we know of the russian system, instructions we believe would only come from the highest levels. >> the latest hacked e-mails include briefing materials for visits, such as a trip in june by vice president biden, and an april event with michelle obama in georgia including an appearance with al roker on "today." nearly 13,000 e-mails hacked, including a white house trafl manual. now, the government is investigating why it happened and how so much sensitive information ended up on an unsecured account in the first place. pete williams, nbc news. >> anthony weiner is being investigated by federal prosecutors for allegedly sexting a 15-year-old girl. the subpoena has been filed for his cell phone records. it's in light of allegations that he traded sexually explicit texts including pornographic

the weekend forecast is going to be all about the temperatures dropping in the east. rain and thunderstorms in the middle of the country, and very enjoyable seasonable fall weather throughout much of the west. temperature only 89 on saturday in phoenix. that's enjoyable after the heat of the summer. by the time we get to sunday, all the problems are in oklahoma, kansas, and texas, with abundant sunshine in the west as temperatures begin to warm up. >> it is nice. thank you. >> investigators this morning are looking at whether speed and alcohol were the leading factors in a deadly crash in florida. 82-year-old gerald smith has died after this lamborghini struck his vehicle. the uber driver was on his way home for dinner when it happ happened. the lamborghini driver is hospitalized in serious condition. witnesses saw him racing along a porsche.

a woman parked the porsche at a nearby restaurant and fled the scene. police say she's refusing to make a statement. >> at this hour, fire crews in california are working to contain a large brush fire. the so-called washington fire broke out yesterday afternoon. prompting mandatory evacuations in the north and part of the military facility. at least 300 acres have burned so far and it's still zero percent contained. firefighters battling a separate fire are now being redirected to assist. >> the mayor of chicago has a three-part plan to deal with the city's sweeping gun violence. in addition to adding nearly 1,000 new positions to the police force, rahm emanuel plans to invest in advance technologies and job creation and also mentorship programs. >> you give the kids of the city of chicago a good, positive, moral choice where they can have a future or a negative one, our kids will pick the positive good one. >> chicago has the highest homicide rate of any major u.s. city. at least four more people were
