>> we want to get you a hit in the ground running this morning or hitting the road running, very smooth start. >> unfortunately hitting is what we want to talk about. very light traffic flow over in the east bay. southbound 880 around the 92 interchange, a crash happened a short time ago. i have not seen any slowing. the lanes should be clear though chp has yet to confirm that. a live look out there will show you the san mateo bridge, traffic moving lightly. how clear is it out there? >> we're seeing the marine layer up to about 2,000 feet this morning, patchy low clouds and cooling temperatures. again, the big story moving forward of highs today running in the 80s around san jose, 60s around san francisco. big change from ned, 70 degrees in the hills yesterday, today in the mid 60s. today looks pretty good but

watching closely changes coming friday. notice the humidity levels going down, wind speeds picking up for friday. what are the changes in the forecast we'll be watching as we approach the weekend. laura? >> we'll certainly have to watch those winds. a developing story in the south bay connected to the fire burning in the santa cruz mountains. the danger with the loma fire is very real. "today in the bay's" bob redell, do we know how the situation is going so far? >> reporter: good morning. we know cal fire lifted the evacuation order for the people living on the santa cruz county side of the loma fire while the orders still remain in effect for the folks on the santa clara side of the fire. there will be a 7:00 a.m. briefing for captains and fire chiefs that will take place at the command kamd in gilroy.

barring any surprises, we do expect cal fire to announce they have gotten better containment on the loma fire that right now is burning in the santa cruz mountains. the latest numbers, the numbers we receive from yesterday indicate that the fire is 22% contained, has burned 2,865 acres, more than 1,000 men and women working those fire lines in exhaustive 24-hour shifts. part of the challenges for firefighters, the santa cruz mountains are dry because of the california drought, so dry the fire is burning through some areas twice. >> on this fire, this slope is burning a second time and completely burning out the second amount of fuel. we're having to almost deal with the fire twice in some places. >> reporter: the loma fire has destroyed one home, damaged another and also destroyed six out buildings, about 325 homes are still threatened. coming up in the next half hour we'll hear from one south bay

resident on how he's dealing with the bad air caused by the smoke. bob redell, "today in the bay." protesters want their message heard. overnight demonstrators taking to the strip mall where a black man was killed, about 50 miles east of san diego. >> black live matters. >> as they take to the streets with their arms raised, we're learning more details about the shooting. police say the object the victim pulled from his pocket was not a weapon, it was a vape-smoking device. investigators say the officers shot that man after only one minute of arriving on scene. we are learning the victim's name is alfred olango, a refugee from uganda. in a few hours the suspect at the center of a bizarre kidnapping case in vallejo is expected to plead guilty. police first thought the case

was a hoax. matthew muller is expected to take a plea deal today. muller is accused of kidnapping deni denise huskins and tieing up her and her boyfriend. >> if you give him an opportunity to get back out on the street, he's not going to change his stripes. he's a psychopath. >> matthew muller is also a former lawyer. the harvard university trained attorney has been disbarred. new clue to bring a killer to justice. authorities have released a sketch of the man they believe shot and killed a college student as the victim played pokemon go. police are looking for a man fitting this image seen leaving the area where calvin riley was shot on august 6th. police also released a photo of a white four-door toyota avalon. authorities believe a woman may

have been driving the car. police say she was last seen on the morning of saturday, september 17th near black diamond middle school. police say there's no evidence of foul play but they say the number of days lomax has been missing is extremely concerned. a local theme park gearing up for halloween without the latest attraction. it offended some in the mental health community because it takes place in a hospital. within days of opening, great america closed that ride. coming up next, cooling temperatures continue, but unfortunately for firefighters, wind speeds are picking up, rob. >> watching the wind speeds on the increase with low clouds right now in san francisco. that is the big story moving forward and rain becoming more of a probability in your weekend forecast. a look at that coming up. maybe not a big story, but happening right here in front of our camera, looks like chp found someone to occupy that officer's time.

all this comes after california leaders took action against the banking giant. the state treasure announced yesterday that california is suspending all business with wells fargo. penalties accuse them of -- >> just as lehman brothers and bear stearns learned the hardware that no bank is too big to fail, those banks that survived the great recession must now learn they are not so powerful as to be untouchable. >> that move is estimated to cost wells fargo millions of dollars. is someone targeting some of the most vul neeshl people in san jose. at least three homeless people have been stabbed to death this year. officers are questioning people after the body of a man found stabbed to death on tuesday. there are two others who died the same way in san jose. now police are investigating whether they're connected. crime stoppers is offering a $1,000 reward for any information that leetsads to an arrest. funeral plans well under way
