>> good morning to giants fans. happy you're with us. sam brock. >> i am laura garcia-cannon. when it comes to the commute, want to get to mike tracking major crashes in the south bay. >> 680 southbound, deadly crash happened overnight just about an hour ago. we have flashing lights and wreckage there. we get to the maps, we will talk about what area it is. it is right here, it was the off ramp to southbound. on and off ramp are open for north and southbound sides. southbound, first crash had debris and second crash on the northbound side, and third crash, drunk driver that couldn't make that off ramp, there's still activity there roadside. lots of flashing lights and activity but no lanes remain closed. we will track this as they do the investigation. for now, roadways are dry,

conditions do not have hazardous effects. no fog this morning, another cool start around the bay. temperatures in the 40s and 50s. 45 things warm up for the weekend. tracking a dangerous matthew. and following breaking news in the east bay with a big police presence in hayward after a person was shot and killed. bob redell joins us there live. what are police saying happened, bob? >> reporter: well, as you mention, one person shot and killed, another taken to the hospital. we are at the intersection of 7th and bean. you can see the alameda coroner van. it was in that area on the 1700 block of bean near the

intersection, someone was shot and killed in a car. car appeared to be pulling into a driveway at 11:30 last night. all police are saying is the person was shot and killed and another person linked to the murder was taken to the hospital and is being treated at eden medical center. police tell us in this section of town, the couple blocks will be closed off for some while. you can see a lot of police behind me, they have investigators out here trying to solve the crime. not clear if they're looking for a suspect or if they made any arrest. live in hayward, bob redell, today in the bay. >> we will check back shortly. breaking news and to the tropics where hurricane matthew strengthened overnight in the bahamas and moving closer to the florida coast. store shelves are nearly empty as people prepare homes and businesses before hurricane matthew strikes.

millions expected to be impacted tonight. many told to evacuate before it is too late. right now flights from the bay area to south bay are cancelled. live pictures from west palm beach, florida as again we're going to see the storm barrel toward florida throughout the course of the day. there's west palm beach. a calmer ocean now, but that's no doubt going to change. a li report at 5:00. 4:34. they have a new way to keep guns out of the wrong hands. gun vaults will be in personal and take home vehicles. deputies will be expected to store weapons in them while off duty. stolen weapons are a major concern. last year one stolen from an off duty car was used in a shooting death in san francisco. the investigative unit uncovered

and took her hand and grabbed it. looked like he wanted to kiss but didn't. he touched her arm instead. >> she fought back and the clown ran away. police are taking that case seriously. this incident comes a day after several bay area schools were threatened by clowns on social media. uc davis researcher identified as the american woman who died in ethiopia tuesday. protesters in that country threw stones at her vehicle. 30-year-old sharon gray was going to attend a planned biology meeting there, anger had been brewing since sunday. at least 55 died in a stampede during a religious festival. police are blamed for sparking the stampede. coming up, rob has the bay area forecast and is tracking matthew. >> around the bay area, cool temperatures, but return to summer like heat for the weekend. a look at the seven-day forecast straight ahead. and multiple crashes in san jose, tracking a crash in

two women were suck a car in an east palo alto welcome back. 4:40. anger and outrage on the peninsula. two women struck by a car in east palo alto in an intersection that many say is dangerous.

the driver hit the women last night while they were crossing bay road near addison avenue. injuries are not considered life-threatening. but five years ago a seven-year-old was hit and killed in that same intersection. the city added crosswalk lights but neighbors say it is not enough. >> we need lights at every crosswalk. something has to happen around here, this is insane. it is going to keep happening. >> the driver was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence. major marijuana bust in the middle of a fire zone. santa clara deputies arrested a man yesterday. they found 89 marijuana plants within the loma fire injure. they were found close to where the fire broke out. sheriff's deputies say there's no indication that the grow is related to cause of the fire which has not been determined. excitement starting to soar. catch the blue angels before

coming in, could be as high as 6 to 10 feet. you can see near the water's edge, imagine how much that water will rise, almost to the top of the studio we have here, that and high tide are an issue at the same time. here's the latest on hurricane matthew. you can see wind speeds, 125 miles per hour. central pressure is dropping, let's us know this hurricane is in strengthening phase. you see hurricane warnings up to the georgia, atlantic coast. this is progression of the storm as we move forward. we expect the center of the storm will cross the coach as it approaches west palm beach. with wind speeds at times perhaps category four. wind gusts up to 135 miles per hour if the models are correct. moving up i-95, through jacksonville before curving back over the open ocean. wind speeds are beginning to weaken at that point.

the impact is tremendous. storm surge brought in by the storm could be as high as ten feet and higher. rain totals over ten inches of rain, wind speeds over a large area about 100 miles per hour. main impacts from central florida up to south carolina. something we will watch into the weekend. bay area has 40s and 50s, cool start. san jose, temperatures in the 50s, clear skies. no fog to talk about this morning. mostly clear and cool start. temperatures in the 70s and 80s. san francisco today, temperatures are climbing up close to 70. around santa clara, a 49ers game, should be pleasant weather for that. temperatures after 5:00 in the 70s. north bay and tri-valley, temperatures in the 70s and 80s. temperatures will climb through the weekend. san francisco, close to 80 saturday. inland locations approaching 90. summer warmup on the way on track for start of the weekend.

still tracking three crashes in san jose. all right at 680. the on and off ramps opened, but police activity still there. flashing lights. southbound had a deadly crash. the resulting investigation you see near the on ramp. secondary crash cleared, no injuries for that. northbound drunk driver went off the roadway on the off ramp, the off ramp reopened after a short time. south bay moving at the limit. moving to east bay, crash 880 in hayward that cleared around southland mall. and over toward the bay bridge toll plaza, no delays. easy flow of traffic from san francisco and north bay. back to you. >> thank you very much. business news. despite the buzz, there are reports some of the biggest companies in the world are not interested in buying san francisco's twitter.

what is available is too expensive. air bnb believes it gives people a way to earn extra money. but too many are turning short term rentals into year-round illegal hotels which reduces housing in san francisco. the judge could make his decision during the hearing or issue a ruling in a couple days. but that isn't the only potential change coming. if you want to legally rent short term, you have to pay more to the city. right now, a perfect miss lasts two years and costs 50 bucks. that's scheduled to go up to 250 in november. san francisco just realized taxpayers had to shell out more than $400,000 to keep it going. if you log onto our website and click the investigation tab, watch all of our reports on the

dramatic win in flushing against the mets. today in the bay starts now. for many folks, a happy thursday morning. i am sam brock. >> i am tired, i am laura garcia-cannon. let's look at the morning commute. an accident on both sides of 680 at mckee. check in with mike. >> crash activity here, all lanes reopened for the freeway. take you down to san jose where all of this is going on. very early had a deadly crash southbound. still police activity until the coroner arrives. i am guessing 6:00 for that to happen. northbound had a drunk driver that exited at mckee as well, that activity still off the off ramp but the ramp reopened. we also have debris, 85 at 17. i will check out what's on the roadway. we don't have rain, roadways are dry.
