now. a very good monday morning to you. thank you very much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. look who is anchoring with me today. >> i know. they usually don't let the girls do it together. >> i know. >> girl power. >> watch out, boys. you're in trouble. >> we'll behave. >> kris sanchez. >> good to be back after a week off. i'm on fire. i'm rested. let's look at that forecast. i've been on the east coast. i have no idea what it will be like here. >> the familiar sights of the fog. cooling changes to our forecast after our summer-like weekend. we have some misty skies around half moon bay, visibility at zero due to the low clouds. 50s and upper 40s to start. mid 70s in the forecast. later this week we're talking about rain and breezy conditions. more on that in a few moments. now a look at the south bay commute, some issues this morning. >> that's right. you said half moon bay, visibility down to zero as far as the view goes, we'll have a

view of that area because bob comes up today. i was talking about a big rig fire on highway 101 around yerba buena. it was not a fire, just some smoking brakes that happen. sometimes things overheat. sounds like everything is cleared out from the shoulder. back to you. i did see that when i drove in. it wasn't that big of a deal. >> this was last night, did you catch the debate? bitter battle to the end. last night's presidential debate was filled with a lot of contempt and personal attacks. >> the fiery night ended with donald trump supporters saying he did better than in the last debate, that's despite he was on the defense all weekend. tracie potts has a full recap of the debate plus reaction this morning. >> okay. >> how you are doing? >> i feel great. >> we won the debate tonight

in to look for it 30 people were on board including several children. it is a privately owned 34-foot cabin cruise their capsized near pier 35 on saturday. investigators are looking into the heavy number of people on board and whether or not there were enough life vest for everyone. teams dove last night and today they will try to locate the boat at the bottom of the bay. >> it may drift with the tide. if it's on the bottom, as we suspect, it won't move terribly far. >> all passengers who were hospitalized are better. most have already been released. even a 5-year-old boy on board has improved to good condition. new details this morning in a violent home invasion investigation in san jose. the elderly woman whose neighbors affectionately called miss flo has died. the suspect will likely face murder charges. 88-year-old flo douglas died early saturday morning.

she spent the last four weeks in critical condition. deputies arrested 19-year-old zachary quinn for the assault. he lived directly across the street from douglas and was caught on camera driving her car and using her credit cards. now that she's gone, friends and family have a message for her accused killer. >> tell the truth, in spite of what anyone else tells you, tell the truth for your own conscious. >> there's a gofundme account for douglas, it will now be use ford her funeral expenses. the suspect is due back in court at the beginning of next month. the oakland raiders keep winning on the field but will they have a new home field to continue though winning ways? today the nevada state legislature will meet for a special session to discuss a proposed stadium that the raiders could call home in las vegas. lawmakers need to approve $750 million for funding for a domed stadium that would cost roughly $2 billion. even if the legislature says yes

here. quite spoiled. >> fleet week was amazing. visibility was great. now we're seeing the fog make a comeback, impacting more of mike's report this morning. the cooling we'll see today, an interesting transition in the seven-day forecast. 50s and 40s around the north bay. drizzle around the coast could slow you down. san jose, 59 degrees. high clouds due in later. across the golden gate bridge, 53 degrees, misty skies and that familiar site of the fog out at at&t park. game tonight, first pitch temperatures in the 60s, cooling into the 50s. lots of low clouds, even some drizzle this morning into the afternoon. you can see the cloud cover there on the coast, also high clouds moving up this afternoon. highs today, down about 10, 15 degrees from yesterday. now we're talking the 70s around the south bay. upper 70s south of downtown, san

jose. mid 60s for san francisco. north bay temperatures in the 70s. the tri valley today, a few spots trying to make the 80s today. the trend will be cooler. here's the reason why, big changes as we go through the week. cooling changes today and tomorrow, wednesday, more clouds. first storm will be missing us to the north. by thursday, this is the pattern that sets up. it has origins out here towards hawaii. the atmospheric river, as this lines up across northern california, that will lead to rain totals starting thursday night and friday looks like a rainy day, another round coming in towards saturday. rainfall projections towards the next seven days as temperatures continue that downward trend. between now and monday, that would be impressive. some parts up in the north coast could get three to five inches of rain. the bay area, at least a half inch or more around the north bay, a quarter inch or less in san jose.

something to look forward to towards the end of the week and into next weekend. now to check out the bay area, morning commute. fog really the only issue on the coast. >> not looking at major issues as far as speed sensors. rob talked about half moon bay with fog. as far as the drive goes, along highway one. also downtown, we'll look at that. we have the pumpkin weigh off coming up. in the north bay, you have the yellow highlighting that means dense fog up there as well in patches through petaluma and across the coast. as rob showed you, the golden gate bridge had some good fog and carl has returned for the morning commute. we are talking about b.a.r.t., 24 trains no delays. we had some fleet week activities, more traffic through this columbus day holiday for san francisco schools. getting out to the bay bridge

happen on the 28th between tesla and solarcity. you will be paying more for gas. prices at the pump have gone une. up 4 cents over the past two weeks. maybe you noticed it as you gassed up this weekend. retailers and refiners are upping the prices in response to a rise in the cost of crude oil. the highest average price for regular gas in the entire country is, as usual, here in the bay area. in san francisco right now, it's $2.92 a gallon. elsewhere in san jose, $2.80. oakland, the average is 2.79 theres. john kerry is making a trip to silicon valley to promote climate change today. he will take part in a round table discussion about new and non-investigative ways to promote and use clean energy. this is happening at the four seasons hotel in palo alto. kerry has been an advocate for

the tech industry. 26 years later and the doors are closed. the trump taj mahal in atlantic city is no more. it shut down after ongoing strikes by union members. the strikes began on july 1st after a bankruptcy court judge aloud the casino's former owners to eliminate benefits. the union wants health insurance and benefits restored. 3,000 workers are now without a job. last night's presidential debate generated a lot of buzz on twitter. potentially millions of tweets, even b.a.r.t. getting into the spirit. >> the twitter account had some several presidential inspired messages. one saying we will build a better b.a.r.t. and make metro los angeles pay for it. they have been retreated more than 1600 times. not a bay way to get your handle out there. fleet week wraps up this weekend. the oohs and aahs continue as

train derailment. a weekend crews spent this wke it could be a difficult morning commute on long island following a weekend train derailment. crews spent the weekend removing

undamaged cars from saturday's derailment east of new hyde park. a 12-car train and work train were traveling in the same direction when they side swiped each other. 25 years ago the oakland hills fire devastated parts of the bay area. this weekend many gathered for an emotional ceremony to remember the victims of that fire. [ applause ] a memorial plaque was unveiled and rededicated at the rockledge b.a.r.t. station in oakland it has the names of the 25 people who died in the firestorm. a phoenix rising out of the flames that hangs at the b.a.r.t. station was already brightened. the firestorm in 1991 killed 25 and injured 150 others. near acres were destroyed.

this weekend for fleet weekend was the perfect weather, but we have some glimpses of the festivities in case you missed it. >> i picked the wrong weekend to be out of town. a show by the blue angels, the pilots took to the skies this weekend. people arrived hours early to get a glimpse of the bad boys in action. >> i saw them fly over the bridge. that's my favorite parts because it's pretty. and i also like how loud they are. >> though the blue angels are done for fleet week there are still some events going on today including the annual ship tour. swimming to fight obesity and diabetes in the american indian community. that's happening today as several people will try to swim from alcatraz to san francisco. swimmers jump in the water at 8:00 this morning. the goal is to educate american indian and alaska natives about healthier lifestyles. half of the children in those
