how big it is, from california to washington state. huge chunk of the east coast as well. no word on when service will be restored. we'll bring you an update when we can get one. comcast is the owner of this station. breaking news recovering this morning, a live look near the crime scene in san jose where police are investigating the homicide. it's in the lot of a lowe's home impress f store. police say officers arrived to find an unidentified man unconscious. right now they're only saying he suffered from visible injuries. kris sanchez is at the scene and she'll join us with a live update at 5:30. also new this morning, a frightening night for eastbound officers. bleach and ammonia spill sent three officers to the hospital. >> bob, how are the officers doing this morning? >> reporter: good morning, scott and laura.

all three pinole police officers are expected to be okay and have been released from the hospital. this happened last night at the pinole shopping center off appian way. the officers were called out to investigate a car that was parked here. not clear if the call was for hazmat or something else. the fire department tells us two household chemicals were spilled inside the car, about five gallons of ammonia, seven points of bleach. the fumes ended up overwhelming those officers. >> complaints from the officers were difficulty breathing and tightness in their chest. we had our medic unit check them out and take them over to the hospital to get evaluated. >> reporter: it took fire and hazmat several hours to clean up the spill. police and fire have yet to say how or why those chemicals ended up spilled inside that car.

weekend. outside right now we've got low clouds around the tri-valley and inland valley. we'll finish the day in the low 70s around the south bay, partly cloudy skies and it will take some time for the low clouds to break up. you can see the peninsula temperatures in the upper 60s, low 60s san francisco. upper 60s and low 70s at best and only warmest places inland. i want to show the seven-day forecast because of san francisco, wind and rain due in on friday, another system due in late saturday and into sunday. our inland seven-day forecast brings a chance of rain late thursday. then into friday, we're watching the rain develop. here is the first of the two storms coming in for thursday. breezy at times. friday it looks to be a very windy and rainy commute. timeline here, we could get winds up to 45 miles per hour in the hills, two to three inches

of rain we expect in the north bay. high surf likely as this pattern evolves moving into the weekend. a second system due in saturday into sunday. it's interesting looking at these numbers, these are the average monthly totals we get for the entire month. less than an inch around san jose. as we fast forward the next five days, the rain totals around the bay area, blue and purple is a half inch to as much as 2 1/2 in some spots. all this friday through sunday. you see the big changes for the second half of the seven-day forecast. next three days are fine. winds will pick up on thursday around san francisco, but the rain does arrive friday morning. you see the rain chances lingering into the weekend. by next monday we get clearing. next two days should be fine. starting late on thursday, that rain arrives in the north bay, mike? >> figure out how to get the umbrellas out of the back of the closet drive. we have an easy flow of traffic.

the south bay we did see for a bit of time, about 15 minutes, slowing for north 280 around lawrence expressway. there's road work going on, but it's not on that portion of the freeway. we'll she you the speed -- the travel times, at speed through all these routes. 280, the little slowing around lawrence has cleared. down to seven minutes on that stretch. up in mountain view, the same there. a good flow of traffic. we'll track it through the morning as there will be some advantage to 85 versus 101. dublin, a commute westbound standard out of the altamont. we do see slowing popping up right here. so i'll check the grid. this is not usually this slow right by tassajara. we will also show you the bay bridge toll plaza where the backup is just starting. coming up, hurricane matthew is gone, but the problems are still lingering. thousands are without homes, and the water actually continues to

found dead in the streets of san jose and the search is on for his killer. >> "today in the bay's" chris s sanchez live where it happened. can you tell us what you know so far. >> reporter: we with tell you we're being kept far from the investigation. the lights you see behind me is where police are still trying to gather clues. they have been out here on the scene for about 6 1/2 hours now. san jose police found the body of that victim about 10:40 last night, but no sign of the killer, and that man was unconscious at the time, injured badly enough that it was obvious to officers that this was no accident. this is in the 700 block of ritter park drive near the intersection with shall len berger road. that is about ten miles from the school of the same name, so no concern there. the crime scene is always in a, paing lot of the lowe's home improvement store, about 200 yards from a homeless encampment along coyote creek. at this point we can't tell you

"today in the bay's" pete suratos has more on the evacuations under way. pete? >> reporter: good morning, laura. that fire, what is called the creek fire, is more than 50 acres. cal fire says it's got about 25% containment. we're at the crosswalk church in napa where evacuations are supposed to come. haven't seen any here yet. they do have a number for nonemergency purposes. crews have been here through the night working hard to contain this blaze. there you see the air tankers used dropping retardant on the hillside. this brush fire is being dubbed the creek fire. mandatory evacuations are in place for the campbell flats and

campbell creek areas of napa county. this all started yesterday afternoon on a hillside on dry creek road. it led to a clez your yesterday that was lifted last night. still a big concern for folks who live in that area. >> it's nerve-racking, but there's nothing you can do about it. so you just -- >> take pictures, grab the dog, bring along the wife and just get out. >> the fire did threaten one home off clear creek road. crews were able to save it. cal fire says the cooler temperatures and lack of wind help crews get a good handle of the creek fire. we expect to get an update from cal fire sometime this morning. at this time we still don't know exactly what caused the fire. we're live in napa, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> 5:34 right now. a sigh of relief in the south

bay. firefighters say the loma fire is 100% contained. as the rainy season ramps up, a new concern crews are facing. the area recently burned in the loma fire will be o prone to erosion. t they're shoring up burned out land that may be susceptible to slides during the winter. cal fire is putting together a winter emergency response team to help prepare in the event of a major slide problem. meanwhile, gang members accused in several violent home invasions and robberies in the east bay are expected to be arraigned today. investigators say six suspects aged 18 to 20 years old armed with guns targeted at least five homes since march. one of those homes in fremont had the robbery caught on surveillance camera. police are looking to see if the suspects are wanted for any other crimes. three sue dents from mountain view high school are behind bars this morning accused of making violent online threats

against students and staff. police say the threat was made on social media. authorities are not being specific about that threat. they'd only say the post vowed to do harm to students and staff. all three were arrested yesterday morning. >> they were subsequently arrested late this morning for making threats and for conspireing to commit a crime. >> hopefully they'll take this as a warning call and people will learn that you're going to get in trouble if you do something like this. police say the students will be charged, but they're juveniles so we don't snow exactly what the charges will be. it's 5:36 right now. tesla wants to get larger, expanding in fremont. if the city approvals, tesla will double its size, adding more than 3,000 jobs and build more electric cars. this is a snapshot of what the proposed plant would look like. the mayor says he loves the opportunity. >> looking for future growth in

employment, obviously, but also looking for companies that want to be around tesla. right now we're in the heart of our innovation district. tesla is obviously the main tenant in that district. people want to locate around tesla because of that innovation. a big concern from critics is that growth leads to traffic. the b.a.r.t. line is expanding to fremont and will soon open in warm springs. fremont city council will expand the plan. some people saying, man, i was just at at&t park a few hours ago. maybe some stragglers are wandering away. last night's game, drilling game three. boy did it go late against the cubs last night. >> a drive to right, and the giants will win tonight!

right now as we watch not just the rain, but gusty winds, maybe up to 45 miles per hour adds the front starts to come through. two to three inches of rain in the north bay. i know it's october, these are impressive numbers even for a december storm and high surf likely on the coast as all that wind eventually pushes a large northwest swell down the coastline. that is friday. we've got another system coming in, looks like late saturday into sunday. maybe a break saturday morning and more rain due in as we finish off the weekend. as we add everything up, the blue and purple around the bay area, a half inch to two inches of rain. that would exceed in some cases the monthly average coming up in the next few days. seven-day forecast for the next three doesn't look like bad. in san francisco, temperatures in the 60s, everything begins to change on friday with showers and rain as we get into the weekend. cool temperatures in the inland locations. for thursday, late in the day a chance of rain and friday the main event comes through. wind, rain and big waves out on

filed against san francisco-based hedge fund notified it will sue theranos and founder elizabeth holmes, days after the startup announced it's closing facilities and laying off hundreds of workers. the hedge fund lawsuit claims holmes lied about her company's technology. the fund head invested nearly $100 million. a theranos spokesman is saying the lawsuit is without merit. >> happening today, the u.s. supreme court will hear arguments over how much money samsung should pay apple for copying the iphone's distinct look. this has been in court for five years. samsung paid apple just over $548 million last year. samsung is arguing it shouldn't have to pay the rest because the things samsung copied like rounded corners don't add a lot of value to the phone itself. the ruling is due by the end of june.
