start. mild temperatures for the afternoon. the calm before the storm we're expecting later this week, 50s around the bay area, 50s and 60s out. coast flood advisory and a high surf advisory. we'll talk about how much rain and wind we're expecting for the friday storm in a minute. now a look at early troubles for your 101 commute. we don't have a lot of issues as far as the speeds go. but taking you to san jose, off highway 101, a crash northbound coming into san jose at story road. the story road off-ramp is closed because of a crash and car fire. take you to a live camera north of there. black smoem billowing out of the area. fortunately no one in that car. the fire is out. the off-ramp -- >> whoever got out was lucky. it was pretty engulfed in flames

there. san jose state water polo player accused of sexually assaulting two fellow students. it happened over a month ago over the labor day weekend. students are wondering why they're just now hearing about it. >> "today in the bay's" the kris sanchez is at san jose state. where do we stand now, kris? >> reporter: according to the university, that student was immediately interviewed by san jose state police and san jose police. more than a month later, it appears he has left the country. the two women who say they are sexually assaulted are spartans themselves, they say thar were sexually assaulted by that freshman water polo member at a party between september 3rd through september 5th. that was labor day weekend. the team had a match in santa clara that saturday so they were in town. a university spokesman told us the students were not notified

immediately again because the accused attacker was identified and interviewed by police, though not arrested. >> i feel like the school has failed, failed to notify us and it's concerning. we should have been notified from day one. >> if you hear about it, you stay on guard, knowing these kind of things were happening around here, i would have felt safer. >> the university has not released the name of that student who is accused because he has not been charged, but there are 19 water polo players, five with hometowns out of the country. the university does confirm this is an international student. the accused student is not allowed at any team events nor anywhere on campus. that point is moot because it appears he's left the country more than a month after those alleged sexual assaults. a popular walking trail in

pleasant hill may be the target of an arsonist. about a dozen small fires have started on walking trails around contra costa county in the past few months. laters are trying to figure out what or more likely who is causing it. a police canine is still recovering this morning after being stabbed. the suspect was eventually shot and killed by police in concord. it started yesterday afternoon as police were investigating a stabbing on crawford avenue. police eventually found the suspect half naked in someone's back yard. that's when officers released the canine named jele to capture the suspect. the suspect stabbed the guard with gardening shears. >> i was in my living room, i saw someone run into my back yard. i was like, who is that? it happened so fast. >> jelle is expected to be okay

after undergoing surgery last night. police have not released the identity of the suspect. happening today, the department of justice will release the findings of a ten-month review into the san francisco police department. the doj launched that review in january following the police shooting of mario woods in the city's bayview district. according to the examiner, the review concludes san francisco police officers focus too much on people of color, especially when it comes to the use of force. the report also recommends using tasers, something the sfp doesn't do right now. meanwhile, the city is still searching for a new police chief. there are reports the selection could be announced this week. the examiner says the police commission will narrow its choices down to three to five finalists during the closed-door session tonight. mayor ed lee will choose a permanent chief from that short list. an update on the boat that

capsized saturday in the san francisco bay. divers plunge d into the water and plugged fuel leaks on the boat as they prepare to raise it. police also released this sonar image which shows the boat sitting up right on the bottom of the bay. it's the image in the center just below the green area that you briefly probably saw there. investigators say the boat might have sunk because it was overloaded. they'll know more when they bring it back to the surface and examine it. a scary discovery in the east bay. a little girl's abandoned bike and clothes were found negotiate a reservoir. those items were discovered monday at the edge of a boat dock. the sheriff's office scoured the area, sent drivers into the lake but found no signs of a child. they're understandably concerned, but there are no reports of a missing girl.

the october magic apparently runs out, the gut-wrenching end to the giants-cubs game that has the boys in orange and black packing up their lockers this morning. very quiet right now in san francisco, 55 degrees. low clouds as we track a stream of moisture here across the pacific that has a connection way out here to the west, how it will impact our weather as we head into the weekend. a look at that coming up. right now 880 past the coliseum moves well. no problems for the nimitz. we'll talk about an issue, an overturned truck in the tri-valley. ♪ music

after well, you can't really sugarcoat this at all. >> giants and their fans a little stunned this morning after the season suddenly came to a crushing end. >> trying to keep that go-ahead run at bay. single back up the middle. he's being waved around. the chicago has taken a 6-5 lead. >> that's what did it. giants were getting ready to warm up. they're flying back to chicago. instead of a decisive game five tomorrow in the windy city, the giants will be cleaning out their lockers at at&t park today. >> it absolutely just sucks. we had a good season we fought our butts off to get to this point. at the end, going home a loser

>> you're just in time. >> the weather updates. watching four days of active weather. we had two new advisories come up. san francisco, an interesting view. look at the fog lit up by the city lights. 55 degrees. the onshore winds making for another mild day. no problems with the weather today, but a little on the cool side. san francisco and the coast, low 60s, mid 70s around the south bay, north bay and tri-valley, similar to the high temperatures we saw yesterday. let's talk about what's happening friday. first coastal flood advisory, this is high surf plus wind and high tides, watch out for localized flooding as all this picks up on friday. wind speeds friday, 25 to 35 miles per hour. rain progression here, some light rain thursday into friday. that's your friday morning commute, looks like a mess, changing over to scattered

showers. that friday storm system, some of the latest numbers just in. you can see from the first storm, one to two inches of rain around the north bay. about a third of an inch in san jose, close to one to two inches in the santa cruz mountains. typhoon songda in the western pacific will eventually get absorbed into the westerlies and make what will be our second storm as we head into saturday. you see the system going along for the ride friday into saturday. the next storm with more wind and rain for the weekend forecast right now. two days of windy, stormy weather around the bay area. friday especially for the morning commute, saturday, the rain makes a comeback for sunday. monday, things finally calming down. cat center saturday starts the pumpkin festival at half moon bay. that brings in the system and brings in a little tougher drive on highway 92.

morning. wall street can add to tuesday's losses, markets tumbling yesterday as earning season got off to a disappointing start. alcoa starts down 11% after the aluminum makers badly missed expectations. earnings from eastern transport csx after the bell. the dow falling to 18128, the nasdaq sliding 81 to 5246. meanwhile facebook, twitter and instagram are pulling access to their data analytics company accused of selling information allowing police to track activists and hackers. the american civil liberties union says the firm allowed the authorities to sneak in through the side door to monitor protests. shares of samsung sharply lower this morning. now that it's been forced to halt production of et cetera latest smart phone. the galaxy note 7 was supposed to be a bestseller in the run-up to christmas, but some of the
