right now kind of the calm before the storm as the clouds start to spill in across the bay area. partly cloudy skies, 50s for now. upper 60s around san francisco, low to mid 70s inland as we track the first in a series of storms. here is your friday storm and another that will pack a lot of wind and rain for the weekend. the timeline coming up in a few minutes. now to see what's happening with the east bay commute, here is rob. >> calm and dry now. but this time tomorrow, a totally different situation. right now the speed sensors don't show any slowing. the crash in oakland we're watching, dutton avenue out of the oakland hills, we may have one lane partially blocked, but not enough to cause slowing because of the light traffic in the area. no delays for the mass transit systems either, so a good start to your day. back to you. >> well, to decision 2016. donald trump's campaign staff is denying a slew of allegations from women who now claim trump

touched them inappropriately. >> various news organizations now cite four different women. one, jessica lead claim trump gloepd her on an airplane 35 years ago. a second woman said trump kissed her on the mouth without permission. supporters say the new scandal will not change their vote. >> i believe the democrats have a great deal of garbage on anybody. >> i feel the election is muddied, but i'm still with trump 100%. >> a trump spokesman responded saying, quote, this entire article is fiction. for "the new york times" to launch a completely false character assassination against mr. trump is a dangerous. trump's attorney demanding a

retraction. hillary clinton back in town today for her final bay area visit before the election. last night she was in las vegas after wikileaks released morhaced e-mails. it revealed a top staffer mocking catholics. nbc news has not authenticated the stolen e-mails. election day is quickly approaching, now just 26 days away. besides the presidential election, we break down the local races impacting you. head to nbcbayarea.com and click on decision 2016. to a developing story. a suspect is behind bars this morning after a chase up the peninsula. the pursuit ended near the city college of san francisco last night. police say it all started in san bruno with a car burglary and a shot was fired in a parking lot of an i hop. no word on the identity of that suspect. authorities in the south bay are wrapping up a two-day sting.

undercover agents arrested and cited people at a hotel in santa clara. authorities set up the rendezvous of websites. they will treat the workers as victims and they wouldn't be taken to jail. >> we had the option of taking her to jail or walking away, and we had the third option to be able to offer services. >> authorities also arrested a number of johns. they're being offered counseling as well as given misdemeanor citations. students in san jose state claim assaults happened on labor day weekend. the suspect is a member of the water polo team and has been temporarily banned from campus. a spokesperson says an alert was not sent out because the incident was not deemed an immediate threat.

some students we spoke to disagree. >> i believe it is a threat because it is someone on our campus and we might encounter them. >> because he hasn't been arrested and charges not filed against him, officials are not releasing the suspect's name at this time. >> san jose state university president released this statement reading, quote, i know some are wondering why a campus crime alert was not mentioned sooner. the totality of information available at the time, including the fact the suspect had been identified and was being closely monitored led to the determination there was no imminent safety threat to the campus community. >> students may be outraged, technically san jose state university officials did follow the rules for reporting on-campus crime. the clary act requires colleges to inform the public about crimes on or near campus. it says schools have to let people know about crimes in a timely manner. but that's only if those crimes

pose an ongoing threat to students or employees. it's up to campus police to determine what is considered an ongoing threat. university officials say they did not send out an alert in this case because they had interviewed and investigated the suspect right away. a correction on information we reported during yesterday morning's newscast. our report included details that could have incorrectly implied an identity for the suspect in the sexual assault. we do not know the name or identity of the suspect and apologize for our error. >> uc berkeley police investigating a late night armed robbery. it happened on ridge road near the school's lawrence berkeley lab. police say the man was robbed at gunpoint. he complied and was not harmed. police don't have a description of the suspect. change coming to our forecast. let's check in with rob. >> watching clouds on the increase this morning and the radar starting to show some rain just off to the north of the

francisco policesan welcome back. this morning the sfpd is at a crossroads. the department of justice says the san francisco police department needs to make major changes. the departmentwide review found the sfpd does not adequately investigate officers' use of force and doesn't keep a complete and consistent data set on each incident. the doj also found police disproportionately pull over blacks and search black and hispanic drivers more often compared to white drivers. not only were

pretty serious traffic situation in the south bay this morning. we're hearing reports of an overturned big rig. >> yes, highway 101 by the airport. >> meanwhile, storms on the way. >> affecting all the commute tomorrow morning. today not too bad. we have clouds on the increase right now. 40s and 50s outside. 56 in san francisco, 48 in the north bay. that's the cool spot. as we head through the afternoon, you notice the numbers here, not too bad. we've got mid and high level clouds on the increase around the south bay. mid 70s in the forecast today. upper 60s near san francisco. as the clouds move in, temperatures pretty mild.

notice the north bay, santa rosa seeing a chance of light rain. right now the radar dry through the bay area. up to the north around ukiah, you're beginning to see the rain move in. the storm timeline this evening, might be light rain in the north bay. tomorrow morning 6:00 a.m. oakland and san francisco. by 10:00, 11:00, hung up around the south bay. you'll see periods of heavier rain and the system quickly clears friday evening heading into saturday morning. this is the break between the two storms. so saturday from 7:00 a.m. to 3:00, a chance of lighter showers, around the hilltops. and saturday evening more rain in the bay area. the other component will be the gusty winds, picking up 30 to 40 miles per hour around the coast. we'll see the wind speeds ease down friday evening into saturday morning. saturday night, gusty winds. the high surf. waves coming 14 to 20 feet by

sunday. coastal flood advisory for friday likely extending that to the weekend. there you see the high surf advisory. some breaks could be approaching close to 20 feet. adding up all the rain from friday into saturday. the santa cruz mountains, a few areas may get two to three inches of rain near where the loma fire burned. notice san jose. you might think you kind of missed out on there. right now the model projections are less than a half inch of rain while san francisco to oakland sees a half intoch an inch and a half around the eastbound hills. these numbers very impressive. parks of eureka and crescent city may see eight to ten inches by early next week. more storms could add to those totals as we head into monday. for the bay area, stormy starts tomorrow morning. things will calm down from friday night to probably saturday afternoon. a few more showers following us into monday morning's commute. there you see things start to

warm up and clear out as you approach tuesday and wednesday. >> thank goodness the roadways are dry. better conditions right now. we have a big issue in the south bay right by the airport, sjc. southbound 101 for about three or four minutes we saw a lot of slowing from highway 87 down toward 880. the speeds have improved. but we still have an overturned big rig blocking your two right lanes as you travel sounthbound past highway 87. two left lanes are all that's open. we're following southbound 101 past the airport and toward the 101/880 interchange in san jose. two left lanes blocked there in the sounthbound side. your northbound commute is moving well. it's still early. i'll hope to get updates and maybe progress in the next few minutes. here are your travel times out of the maze or over to the maze, from highway 4, at the speed

million vaek accounts were created in order to meet tough sales target. the only problem is -- shares in samsung were up in asia overnight for the first time in three days. the firm is offering financial incentives for customers in south korea to exchange their exploding galaxy note 7s. it's causing a headache for the smart phone maker as well, sending fireproof boxes and protective gloves to customers returning some of the dangerous devices, some of which have caught fire or caused burn hazards. >> landon dowdy, thank you. an effort to fight zika virus from the air with unmanned drones is getting a boost from the federal government. u.s. agency for international development is funding the creation of the drones that would drop zika fighting mosquitos into remote regions. the drones would also ferry lab

samples. these are two of a number of inventive ideas now being funded by the u.s. government. 4:49, happening today. tesla's plan to expand the fremont factory and eventually add thousands of jobs takes its first step forward today. tesla wants to double its size with 11 new buildings on the site of its warm springs facility. here you see a proposed map. that expansion would create an additional 3,000 jobs. tonight company representatives will present the plan at the city council chambers. palo alto is the latest city to ramp up its bike share program. the "mercury news" reports palo alto teaming up the ford motors to launch a bike share program. this is a video showing ford's smart bikes being used through a similar partnership in san francisco. palo alto's fleet of bikes is expected to grow to 350 by next june and up to 700 by the year

2018. new focus on so-called comfort animals and their role in air travel. from dogs, to pigs and even turtles, airlines are saying there ought to be limitations. for as little as $69 passengers can fill out a form, get a letter making almost any animal a service animal. is that a dog? that's enormous. now the department of transportation is trying to reshape the regulations after pressure from airlines and frankly passengers, too. a committee is expected to vote on which animals may no longer be allowed as service animals on planes. >> my cow wanted two seats, a bit too much to bring betsy on board. preparing for the next storm, how people in pacifica are trying to prevent a cliff from crumbling even more as rain is expected to move in. happening now, our nbc bay area team is preparing coverage for that storm. it's expected to hit late tomorrow night.

north atlantic and is headeding happening now, a category 4 hurricane is whipping its way through the north atlantic and headed straight for bermuda this morning. cameras on the international space station captured views of hurricane nicole packing winds of 100 miles per hour. the national hurricane center says this storm is on track to hit bermuda today and it's expected to cause significant

damage. residents are bracing for up to eight inches of rain. not a hurricane but the bay area is bracing for its significant storm. some people in pacifica are worried about erosion once again. city workers yesterday finished repairs to a section of the promenade damaged by last season's storms. by tomorrow, waves could push past 15 feet. a man who lived at a red tag esplanade apartment says more rain is coming. >> stuff is going to start breaking away like it always does. >> a neighboring complex on the cliff has been demolished. this week pacifica city council members approved $3 million in new funding for erosion projects. new bonfire rules in san francisco's ocean beach means as of today, fires are not allowed through the end of february. the rules include the first ever no-burn season, coinciding with the spare-the-air season.

"today in the bay" starts right now. kind of a dark start to our morning, waiting for the sun's arrival. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm scott mcgrew in for sam brock. we want to talk first with mike if we could because apparently there is a fairly good wreck out there, mike. >> yes, fairly bad wreck for the big rig. no injuries reported yesterday. we're still waiting on more information from chp. it sounds like there maybe an suv involved as well. this is down in san jose, south of san jose international airport and highway 87. the southbound direction coming down into san jose out of mountain view, we have the two right lanes, the right lanes are blocked. the two left lanes are open getting toward the center divide. a lot of slowing once crews first arrived. now it looks like traffic flow has smooth out. half your freeway is blocked.
