more 40s than we saw yesterday. we will see another nice day. temperatures a little warmer, back into the mid 70s. there are the chilly temperatures. 49 in livermore, 48 in palo alto and 45 in napa. later this afternoon, most places that were in the low 70s yesterday back into the mid to upper 70s, closer to 80 degrees today. that warming trend continues for tomorrow. there is rain on the way for next week. we'll talk about that and the weekend forecast coming up. >> the approach to the dublin interchange, the travel times have kicked up for westbound 580. 680 up to 25 minutes. that's increased by about four minutes over the last few. the reason why it's at the very end, we'll show you the camera we had in dublin. there's the car dealership there in hopyard. two big rigs block the slow lane and the hopyard on-ramp.

that's an issue for the approach. back to you. new this morning, four people are without a place to live after this, a fire destroys their south bay home overnight. that home is on en sal mow avenue. >> we understand there were people inside that house as it was burning. >> reporter: good morning, laura and sam. three of those people were able to get out of the home in en sal mow, a couple homes away from hillsdale as it burned. as the flames consumed the garage, which you can see behind me, consumed the garage and spread into the house, a fourth person was stuck inside. this morning the fire department credits a neighbor of helping the fourth person get out of the home alive. no one was hurt. the fire department believes the fire started in the garage

around 11:00 last night, tells us it took off super fast. the garage was fully involved as the first 11 call came in. >> i heard some stuff kind of popping and hissing, so i kind of sat up, opened my window and you could hear people screaming. i took a deeper look, and my brother came in. he said i think there's a fire outside. i went into his room and you could see the flames and smoke coming out. so we ran out here. >> the san jose fire department ended up calling for three al lrms, tells us it took 80 minutes to knock down the fire. once the sun comes up, a fire investigator will inspect the home and try to figure out the cause. they believe it started in the garage. we know it spread inside the house. the damage in there is significant and also destroyed the car right there behind me. the people who live here say there was nothing unusual going on in the garage before the fire

started. bob redell, "today in the bay." students will return to san francisco's junie jordan school of equity. one female victim right now is still in critical condition. three male victims suffered non-life-threatening injuries. that shoog sparked chaos on campus as authorities believe there could be an active shooter. frantic parents were worried for the safety of their kids. >> i received a call from my son that there was a shooting at the school. so i came to get my grandson zblp investigators say the shooter was specifically targeting one of the students and the shooting was not random. they have not indicated a motive or even if they have any possible leads on suspects. counselors and beefed-up security will be on hand for students later today. we'll have a live report in our next half hour. 5:03 right now.

hours away from the third and final presidential debate. as you can see, the finishing touches are under way in las vegas. the latest nbc poll has hillary clinton with an 11-point lead over donald trump heading into tonight's debate. yesterday trump campaigned in the battleground state of colorado, doubling down on his claims of rigged election and media manipulation. >> the media you have to remember is an extension of the hillary clinton campaign, an extension. >> as for hillary clinton, the democratic nominee has been in las vegas since last night. new hacked e-mails released by wikileaks revealed an early list of names suggested by mrs. clinton's team as a possible running mate list. the list included apple's tim cook and microsoft's bill gates. nbc bay area's mark matthews is in las vegas and will report live from there later this afternoon. coming up at 5:30 this morning, "today in the bay's" tracie

potts will join us live from unlv with a preview of the final debate. investigators say wreckage of a small plane that went missing near lake tahoe has been found. it was a cessna. the body of a man was found outside of that wreckage and still not identified. that plane vanished saturday night during a storm. a man is dead after a pipe bomb explodes inside an east bay clinic. police say the man brought in that explosive. reasons report seeing a man in a wheelchair into the san antonio neighborhood health clinic in oakland about 6:30 last night. he was carrying what appeared to be a pipe bomb which he detonated in the lobby. >> no other injuries reported. the investigation reveals this is an isolated incident where an individual took his life. >> the bomb squad was called in as a precaution. no other explosives were found. a hunger strike at the santa

clara county's main jail is expected to continue for a third day today. inmates there are demanding changes. they've gone without foot for the past two days. they want an overall to a classification system, an end to solitary confinement. adequate changes of closing and improved inmate programs. the sheriff's department says about 125 prisoners have refused their meals so far this week. they're all being monitored by medical staff there. >> san leandro has a new police chief after seven months in the interim position. he's worked for the department for 20 years. he says he's thankful to serve the community that mentored him throughout his life. a pair of burglars busted in santa clara counties. >> tried to fool officers with cuteness. the sheriff's department posting this picture on twitter after deputies found two puppies running around after responding to a burglary alarm call. are they puppies or babies?

announcements today requiring mandatory department-wide training for harassment shortly after our own investigation. our investigative unit obtained a memo ordering that training. it comes after several high-profile reports of harassment cases within the department. as we first told you, those cases included investigations that led to the transfer of an entire command staff at one station amid allegations that a female firefighter was harassed and hazed. the san francisco police commission will discuss findings from a recently released department of justice report looking into bias among police officers. the report found police used force against african-americans more frequently and pum over black drivers at a higher rate than other people. the department is in the midst of a major reform effort that started after several controversial police shootings and the disclosure of offensive texts between officers. a bay area junior college football player is facing new jail time after skipping

community service tied to his probation. critics call this is a symptom of the len yen see shown by judge aaron persky, the same judge who sentenced brock turner. a new jud smith is a college football player who served a month in jail for domestic assault and battery. his attorney says he's been caught up in the crossfire of criticism against persky who opponents believe displayed a pattern of treating athletes differently that includes former stanford swimmer brock turner. >> this kid is dragged through this and his face is all over the place. >> i think justice would have been better served had judge persky held mr. smith accountable sooner. >> public defenders san joses smith is struggling to balance his commitment to the court with other commitments. prosecutors say he missed too many domestic violence classes. persky has requested to work only in civil cases.

if you're a parent, this is something you're worried about, distracted teens behind the wheel. also a common occurrence that can lead to deadly consequences. a national teen safety week yesterday. they had to drive a course dealing with distractions that many of us experience every day. that can include loud music, in some cases using social media at the same time. the number one killer of teens in the u.s. is preventable car crashes. >> scott mcgrew. it's ironic. the more we have cars that drive for us, laura, the less attention we pay. even tesla will announce an upgrade to the auto pilot driving software. germany on monday told tesla to stop calling it auto pilot. as much as tesla cars drive themselves, obviously there's still a steering wheel and

pedals. this is the way google originally designed itself-driving car. there's public hearing in sacramento about that today. the argument between steering wheel and no steering wheel divides a lot of designers and engineers. if you have a car that divides itself, do you take the driver out of the picture entirely? early research says a driver letting a car drive gets so badly distracted, it's better to let the car make all the decisions and take away the wheel. cutting a ribbon on their san jose headquarters. it makes tvs and bicycles of all things and it's hiring in the south bay like crazy. it, too, is making some kind of announcement today. we'll have more about it tomorrow morning on the news. i'll be tweeting about it later today as well. let's check the news before the bell.

landon dowdy is live at cnbc world headquarters. good morning, landon. >> good morning to you as well. wall street poised to open slightly higher today. futures are mixed this morning. the market posting gains on tuesday thanks to positive earnings from netflix and goldman sachs. the nasdaq having its best day in three weeks. you want to look for data on housing and earnings and morgan stanley beat the street estimates. american expression after the bell today. the dow and nasdaq both up. back over to you. you can now endorse a candidate on facebook. take a look. you go to the candidate's facebook page. there you'll see the endorsement. you click on the endorsement page and then click endorse and add a bit about why you like that candidate. your endorsement will then appear on your page. it's the first time facebook tried something like this. this will also appear from time to time on the candidate's page.

sierra snow. we're looking at lots of changes over the next couple weeks. in fact, we had our first snowfall this past weekend across the sierra. they will be opening up pretty soon. you know halloween is around the corner. once you get to halloween, all the holidays come after that. still looking at nice summertime air, spring air, if you will, later this afternoon. chilly this morning, 49 in livermore, 59 in napa, 48 in palo alto. later this afternoon, back in the 70s and mid to upper 70. 79 for livermore and 78 for san jose. it will stay cool but comfortable along the coastline today. 60s and low 70s for places like san francisco and santa cruz. clear skies to start the day. that will leave plenty of sunshine for the entire rest of the week.

>> that's right. sorry to jump in on your report. this backup now adding about 20 minutes right here through the area approaching the dublin interchange. the backup goes to el char row road. the first crash involved two big rigs blocking two right lanes and the hopyard on-ramp. let me get you the live camera to show you the second crash we found in the area. we'll give you more detail coming up. back to you. >> mike, thank you very much. school will be back in session this morning at san francisco's june jordan school for equity following a shooting yesterday afternoon that injured four students. this is a story we brought you as breaking news last night at 5:00. "today in the bay's" pete suratos is joining us live this morning. pete, one of the students injured remains in critical condition this morning. >> reporter: that's right, sam. good morning to you in the newsroom. sfpd is still looking for the four suspects responsible for the shooting that took place in the parking lot of june jordan high school in san francisco. at the time of the shooting, sfpd wasn't sure if this was yet another active shooter situation. >> they thought this was an

active shooter baurz they saw the victims inside the school. they immediately started to do a search by search, immediately look for the suspects. >> reporter: that's the voice of sfpd carlos man freddy. it turns out this was president an active shooter situation. police say the four suspects walked up to the school wearing black hoodies were looking for a specific student at the time of the shooting. three of the four students who were shot ran inside the school with their gunshot wounds. a fourth victim walked into a police station hours later. all taken to fm general for their injuries. this prompted a brief lockdown at june jordan. >> i received a call from my son that there was a shooting at the school. so i came to get my grandson. >> three of those students who were male are expected to recover from their non-life-threatening injuries. a fourth student who is female

checks throughout the debate hall overnight. what are we going to see tonight? donald trump focusing on hillary clinton's weakness, the trust factor and some foreign affairs issues he's been set studying up on. we asked both sides if we could get inside their nevada offices to see how they're getting ready for this. trump said no. clinton said yes, so we got a chance to talk to those volunteers. >> reporter: volunteers working the phones at hillary clinton's nevada headquarters. >> voting is in three weeks. is there anything we can talk about? >> reporter: confident in their candidate, but some anxious about tonight's debate. >> one little thing can go wrong, and that's all people remember. >> reporter: donald trump claims the media focuses more on sexual assault allegations against him than e-mails suggesting the state department tried to declassify a top secret e-mail after clinton sent it.

trump's rigging claims have state and county election officials rushing to try to reassure voters that the integrity of the system is in place. the santa clara county registrar and other leaders will hold a news conference at 11:00 at the registrar voter's audience, the auditorium in san jose. they'll be addressing concerns over potential vote are intim daegs and offers for public participation on election day. there are more than 500 proposition, measures and other measures on the november ballot. 5:35. four people are without a place to live but they are alive after a fire destroyed their south bay home. all this started a little after 11:00 last night at a home on ensalmo and hillsdale. firefighters the fire began in the garage and quickly spread to the rest of the house. three of the four people inside made it out quickly. the fourth rers dent was trapped inside. firefighters credit the quick

been going too fast. the coroner is running tests to see if alcohol is a factor. a suspected serial arsonist is behind bars this morning. fremont police arrested corey minhas. he was arrested near the scene of what is believed to be the 16th fire he's set according to police since july. this is off warm springs boulevard. investigators say evidence gathered at the scene led him to minhas. >> i feel much safer now that they caught somebody, and hopefully this doesn't happen again. >> police believe his arson stint started over the summer. dozens of people are arrested in the bay area as part of the sweep to crack down on human trafficking. several children were also rescued during that sweep. operation cross country x ran for three days. during that time investigators investigated hotels, truck stops and street corners. here in the bay area six

rebuilding one dollar at a time. the berkeley community coming together to support a church badly damaged by a recent fire. eight different musical groups played a benefit concert for the first congressional church of brkly. fire tore through the building last month causing $2 million in damage. the church used to host concerts. performers at nearby saint mark's episcopal church pitched in. >> we made the call to perform and to come, they responded immediately with such generosity, and we're just so grateful for that. >> that's the spirit. the event ended up raising more than $5,000. mailboxes are the hot topic at the saratoga city council meeting tonight. the city is discussing an ordinance to require new housing developments to include locked mailboxes. according to the u.s. postal service, about ten arrests are made every day over mail theft. it was a frightful scene during fleet week. a group of heroes honored in san

francisco. mayor ed lee hosting a ceremony for the first responders who rescued dozen of passengers from the chilly bay waters after their boat overturned. that rescue was kaup toured on go pro. we're happy to say everybody is doing fine now. creating new homes. a multimillion dollar housing development is breaking ground in mountain view. the ceremony starts at 11:00. it's a $64 million development that will give preference to low income families and people who live and work in mountain view. in novato, a 14-unit complex named oma village will rent to families transitioning out of homelessness. the 9ers already done? three-time super bowl winner roger craig believes there's still time for the 1-59ers to turn things around. he thinks despite the

you, but it was a downgrade from standard & poor's that has really hurt wells fargo. they say the bank faces, quote, serious business challenges. please understand your money is still safe at wells fargo. the downgrade is going to further anger wells fargo investors who are already suing the bank. as far as the city, supervisor john avalos and jane kim are calling for the city to end business with the bank. a bank, let's remind you, that was around during the california gold rush. the company's former ceo who resigned during the scandal has also just resigned from the boards of chevron and target. netflix did well in the stock market on tuesday, up 20%. intel and yahoo! turned up their earnings. dow up 75, nasdaq up 44. tomorrow we'll hear from samsung and its earnings. that will be a brutal report. tesla will have a big announcement today, the same big announcement we were expecting monday. but elon musk said it needed

more refinement. the company said people who ordered the new tesla model 3 recently won't get their cars until 2018. tesla reaffirmed those who put down their $1,000 deposits early will get their cars by the end of next year. sam and laura, we've talked in the past, tesla has a staggering number of orders for model 3. about 375,000 early orders. they promised to deliver many of these next year. but tesla has only made around 50,000 cars a year total. it's a math problem. this is why tesla wants to expand its facility. it has to give this many cars to people, it can make this many cars. >> simple numbers game. scott mcgrew, thank you very much. one of the most well-known, legendary rappers of all time, the late tupac shakur could be headed to cleveland. >> he was nominated for

livermore. just as chilly as it was yesterday, if not chillier in some locations. later this afternoon under high pressure, we'll warm quickly. 74 for oakland and redwood city. close to 80 in places like livermore, san jose. temperatures warmer tomorrow as a storm track lifts well to our north. seattle and portland will continue to see rain. they've been seeing it for the past week or so. at home we'll watch the next storm system slide in on sunday. that's going to bring in more cloud cover for the end of the weekend and maybe showers for the north bay on sunday and everybody will get in on the rainfall as we head towards monday. maybe a .10 inch coming our way on monday. that's the first of a series of storm systems impacting the bay area next week. continue to monitor that that. 79 for the inland valleys, 80s tomorrow. san francisco, we go back into the 70s tomorrow downtown. a nice treat coming your way the

next couple days. mike, what are you tracking on the roads? >> the opposite of a treat nor the tri-valley. the rest of the bay area moving well. the approach to the dublin interchange westbound 580, adding about 20 minutes to your drive if you're traveling out of livermore and towards 680. some folks are bailing out on north first. stoneridge and dublin boulevard getting a lot more traffic. this crash at doherty, the big rigs, the two involved are still having trouble removing those on the approach to the dublin interchange. traffic at tassajara crawls. that's much slower than you typically see, adding about 20 minutes to that area approaching 680. the drive time approaching the bay bridge toll plaza, that looks great, the south bay as well. here is the south bay travel times starting to build for 101. 23 minutes from 85 in san jose, to 85 joining with mountain view t. bay bridge approach close to the limit.

about what they'll hear, as you see, the samsung phones that have exploded recently. now the first class action lawsuits have been filed against samsung in connection with the exploding galaxy note 7. the lawsuit accuses samsung of fraud and breach of warrantee. disgruntled customers say they were forced to continue honoring their contracts even after the products were recalled and before replacement phones were made available. samsung is not commenting on the lawsuit. other consumer issues now, a few minutes ago scott mcgrew was talking about wells fargo and how san francisco supervisors wanted to pull all ties from the bank. now a whistle brother says she returned to the government for help. >> a former federal investigator tells nbc bay area if osha did its job, the problems inside wells fargo could have been discovered sooner. >> we talked to a former investigator who reviewed whistle-blower cases for osha. he says in 2010 his agency
