leave a little extra time when you head out this morning. it is wet out there. let's get right to our coverage. the radar pretty active. you see the green in spots with yellow blanketing the bay area. we're seeing another round of wet weather. >> we have multiple reports to get to this morning. first let's check in with meteorologist rob mayeda for the path of this latest storm. >> watching light to moderate rain moving from south to north across the bay area right now. the radar view will show the progression. it's not going west to east. light rain right now in san jose and moderate rain from san francisco to oakland, tri-valley seeing the heavier rain. right down the sunol grade, a tough drive this morning with water going down the hillsides there. san jose towards yountville we have moderate rain and the story the next six hours that will see a chance of perhaps adding another half inch of rain. mild temperatures today, upper 60s to near 70.

drying conditions for the evening commute. that's not much help on the roadways. we continue to see ponding out there due to the rain. >> green on my maps has the weather data translated to the conditions on the road. wet roadways where you see the green highlighting. we'll talk about flooding in spots like the san rafael area, southbound 101 around 580. we had a spinout reported where we put the shield, 23rd at northbound 880. a spinout reported there. there may be a second one at 280 and 87. slicker roadways around the bay. a lighter flow of traffic. a 14-minute drive from highway 4 down to the maze on interstate 80. slick conditions. our road warrior crew out there. kris, you're around redwood city. >> yes, we're on northbound 101, and we have been very lucky this morning. we have not seen any collisions on the roadway. traffic still light at this hour as you well know, mike.

we do see ponding on the roadways, so you'll want to make sure you'll do what josh is doing, which is to keep both hands on the wheel and also trail people at a bigger distance, keep yourself safe. that way you have room to stop when people stop ahead of you. the roadways are still slick out here in redwood city. we did see ponding as we were passing through palo alto and east palo alto as well. that means you'll see rooster tailing. that's when the person in front of you hits that puddle and splashes it onto your windshield. windshield wipers going at about intermediate so far this morning. i think josh has put them on high a couple times. be careful out here. remember, the speed limit is only safe for the conditions that are perfectly clear, so when the conditions are less than perfect, you should also slow your speed. we'll continue driving north on 101 as we are headed through redwood city northbound and we will check back with you in

about half hour. on the roadway in redwood city, kris sanchez, nbc bay area news. >> kris, thank you very much. slippery roads and poor visibility may have played a part in an early crash where a suspected car thief lost control of a stolen vehicle and it launched into the air. it happened before 2:00 this morning on the great america off-ramp by northbound 880. the chp says the suv crossed of the off-ramp and on-ramp lanes and crash landed in a field. the driver ran off. officers are still searching for the driver. with every drop of rain comes more concern along our coastline. in pacifica eroding cliff sides are at the top of cruise' minds this morning. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos joining us with how things are looking. a lot of concern about what these waves can do. good morning. >> reporter: good morning sam and laura. there's always that concern when the rain comes down in pacifica.

compared to yesterday when we were here, you're feeling a little drizzle. i want to show you here at the pier, you can see the waves. it's fairly normal, but a bit stronger than what we saw yesterday. whenever there's this wet rain, there's concern by residents and the city doing its part to make sure things are safe. there you have it. that's the rain coming down. we spoke with a bar and restaurant owner who has seen his parking lot flooded due to this rain. repairs by the city including a revamped drainage system to help avoid standing water and seawalls have made things a bit easier. there's also this addition. >> we put in the newbridge over here with the army corps of engineers coming out, revamped everything. >> reporter: of course last winter with the el nino storms, we'll talk about those homes on esplanade drive that were evacuated and red-tagged due to

safety concerns. a couple weeks ago, the city voted unanimously to move forward on about 12 projects to make sure people are safer with this wet weather. the coastal bluffs are a concern. i spoke with the city, and like yesterday, they said they'll corporate to monitor this as the day goes on. live in pacifica, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> try to stay dry, pete. from the coastline to the mountains, mudslide worries are mounting, especially at the loma fire's burn area. this is a live look at how things are holding up, a dark one at that. tried to ram an officer and the officer fired. a 39-year-old man who authorities now identify as anson muhammad has been charged with attempted murder and vehicle theft. right now he's still in the hospital. a man and woman are behind bars after a violent robbery. barry hiezer in and darlene marquee are accused of robbing a 55-year-old o woman after gambling at a nearby casino. police say hiezer in walked up behind her and hit her in the head multiple times with a hard object. hiezer in was spotted on surveillance video earlier in the night following the woman at the casino. he's facing attempted murder charges. from last night's bay area proud we introduced you to a father and son building haunted houses for years in san jose. they invielt anyone to build it for free. now they built a haunted house in the parking lot of the oak ridge law. early wednesday morning they say

thieves broke in damaging one of the sets and stealing sound equipment and air compressors. >> the team we have here is a family. so we're picking up the pieces, we're repairing things, trying to get replacement stuff in here so when you come through this evening it's as if it never happened. >> the show will go on, but they say about $3,000 worth of gear was stolen. the haunted house is opened through hall woon night, if you dare. >> are you kidding? i don't scare, okay? it takes a lot. streets will be crawling with kids on halloween night. that scares me a little bit. marin county is making sure to make sure all the neighborhoods are as safe as possible. here is what's going on in marin. the county probation department is carrying out operation safe treat this morning at 7:30, deputies reminding probationers to keep their lights and decorations off.

they're doing everything they can to ensure children don't approach the homes of sex offenders. we're watching the storm today. as a part of kids who want to go trick-or-treating, i'm peeking at monday's forecast as well. >> we'll see another system arriving around halloween night. we'll have the forecast in about ten minutes. outside right now, you have san jose and heavy rain coming in from the south, morgan hill, south san jose and into the south bay, about a half inch and climbing. temperatures in oakland, light to moderate rain and rain all through out the tri-valley this morning, more in the north bay as the rain bands continue to lift south to north across the bay area. no matter where you look, rain across the board. in saratoga, hour-by-hour forecast shows showers lingering through about 11:00 and things turn drier once we head into the afternoon. temperatures mild out there today, 60s to low 70s.

the seven-day forecast brings more rain saturday night into sunday, turning cloudy for halloween and then after 9:00, it looks like the rain will make a comeback halloween night on into tuesday morning. mike? >> we'll watch for those changes, a lot of kids paying attention to the forecast. over here we're paying attention to the roadways. light traffic flow. we had a number of smaller incidents, the latest, a spinout southbound 680 coming down out of the sunol area. i'll get more details on that coming up. northbound 280 at the 87 connector, reports of a car on the rail there on the roadside. we couldn't find it with our live camera. slick roadways continue to be an issue. the travel times through the south bay, 21 minutes for either 101 and 85 from where they split to where they meet. finding out why the plane carrying vice presidential candidate mike pence skidded off

approaching south san jose, periods of downpours expected to continue for your morning commute. your forecast just minutes away. just heard about a major crash on the bay bridge. gathering details, we'll bring that to you. meanwhile looking at travel times, 12 minutes from san francisco down to sfo. flooding on van ness itself, will be an issue for surface streets. westbound 580 out of the altamont pass, 24 minutes from grant line to 15. thank you very much rob and mike. 5:13 right now. turning to political news this morning, there's trouble for both presidential candidates as we reach the final days of this very long campaign. >> first, trouble on the runway yesterday, a scare for vice presidential candidate mike pence whose plane made quite a rough landing at laguardia. "today in the bay's" tracie potts joining us live in washington with how he's doing and the investigation under way to see how it all happened. good morning. >> reporter: exactly, yes, pence was just on the "today" show. you'll see it shortly. he and the other 47 people on board are fine.

he said one indication that something was wrong was smud splashing on the windows of the plane as it skidded off the runway. now investigators have moved it, reopened the runway. they're trying to figure out how that plane landed in the grass. >> oh, my god. >> reporter: republican vice presidential nominee mike pence is fine this morning after a scare. >> remain seated. >> reporter: his plane skidded off the runway landing at laguardia airport. >> it wasn't that dramatic. >> reporter: pence rallies in pennsylvania and north carolina today while donald trump continues to hammer the clintons in new hampshire, maine and iowa. >> all they did was sell favors, sell access and sell out the american worker. >> reporter: new wikileak e-mails tie the clinton foundation to former president bill clinton's for-profit activi activity. there's no indication hillary

specific to your city and county. your internet company knows where you've been, what websites you're looking at and what addresses have you plugged into online maps. >> they've been selling that information to advertisers. now, scott mcgrew, they have to stop. >> they'll have to stop. the fcc says they need your permission first. be careful, they'll probably stick that information from some "click here" form where you don't see it. they voted along party lines to change the rules to better protect consumers. major internet providers had been working on plans to sell information about your online behavior to advertisers. they will not be able to do that without your okay. the move is a major blow to companies like at&t and comcast. i should point outcome cast owns the company that owns this tv station. do understand, though, individual websites can still track you, use that information and sell it. to put that in plain english, your internet provider can't

sell the fact you went to google maps, but google can use the address you typed into their maps, which after all they're providing for free, to figure out where you're going and advertise to you. someone with a little less privacy this morning is vladimir putin. a hacker has published e-mails between the russian government official showing the kremlin's fingerprints all over the unrest in ukraine. we've also known the russians were involved in ukraine. the hack is embarrassing for the russian leader. the american government denies responsibility, though president obama has said that america would respond to russia's attempts to influence our election through hacking. the best line of the morning from nbc's robert wyndham who says karma is a borse. let's join landon dowdy live at cnbc world headquarters. >> good friday morning. wall street could start off in the green. futures are higher this morning, modest losses thursday as invests sifted through mixed

earnings and deal news. tech could come under pressure today as amazon reported disap pointing results last night. a key item you want to watch as well, the first read on third quarter gdp which could show economic growth rebounded this summer providing more fuel for the fed to raise interest rates. the dow and nasdaq both down. >> landon, thank you. scientists in brisbane doing the closing well. we'll talk about that in 15 minutes. apple introduced new laptops thursday. bottom line, they actually call them notebooks, are getting more expensive. tim cook took a moment to say apple introduced its first power book 15 years ago this week. >> it was on october 25th of 1991 that apple unveiled the first powerbook. the powerbook actually defined

the modern notebook. >> you heard that little laughing there. i think that was young people, because i remember that notebook. it's not that old, certainly not apple's oldest. the new power book cost $2500 in 1991, about $4400 today. this is the new laptop, including special touch screens above the keyboards. they'll be in stores in the few weeks. they do lack that mag safe connector if you trip over the cord. >> i think people were expecting a little touch screen or something else. get it done one way or the other. thank you very much. we're staying on top of weather conditions right now. last night forcing a bay area pilot landing his small plane at the old alameda air station. the registration has been closed for two decades. the fire department posted

pictures on twitter. they say the pilot did the right thing. he had a imt willed license to only fly when the sky is clear. two people on board, either injured. we're getting big traffic news on the bay bridge that we'll get to. eastbound lanes shut down because of a big rig jackknifed. >> mike will update on that. trying conditions for drivers across the bay as we continue to see rainfall all over. >> some of the moderate rain around the south bay moving towards san francisco. we're about to see major issues for your commute into san francisco and out of san francisco this morning. right now low 60s outside. you can see the rain totals very impressive. still climbing around the south bay. san jose almost .50, closing in on .75 inch in palo alto and san francisco. no matter where you are, this storm is providing a steady soaking. right now san jose catching a little break as drier air comes

into the south. what's interesting about the rain, it is moving from south to north, not west to east. dublin down to sunol grade. you're looking at downpours there. into the north bay, moderate rain at times. you see the progression of these showers, more heavier showers offshore. for the next three to four hours, we will see heavy rain moving through, the system tracking right across the central coast. as we head from now to about mid afternoon, notice the showers and the rain begins to start to move to the east after about lunchtime today. 60s to near 70s for highs around the bay area. despite the fact we have rain, another mild day taking shape. the next storm arriving late saturday into sunday. we'll see breezy conditions and a chance of thundershowers. you can see here hour-by-hour on saturday, most of the day dry, but more rain coming as we head into sunday night. for the sierra, cooler air means snow levels dropping to near 6,000 feet. flash flood watches in lake

tahoe. monday, your halloween forecast looks like late in the evening we'll be ginn to see some of that rain start to approach in the north bay, dry in the south bay. quick check of the seven-day forecast bringing the chance of rain monday night into tuesday. now with more of a major impact on the bay bridge commute, here is mike. >> a lighter flow of traffic. wet roadways, you have to drive slower around the bay. in san francisco getting out of the city, major crash reported on the bay bridget self. as you get on the lower deck towards treasure island, a crash, a spill reported. the vehicle involved is a big rig. only one lane open. it's reported at treasure ooi land, but it looks like the big issue is getting on the sky way and the lower deck. a number of on-ramps first. obviously you're at home watching tv, you might want to consider the san mateo bridge which is moving very well.

we'll look at the bay bridge toll plaza, i want to pint out another issue. this is the westbound commute direction. there's the car right there, you see it off the roadway. it must have gone off the roadway, slicker conditions reported throughout the bay. we're hearing about a lot of cars sliding off the roadway at on and off ramps. no injuries or lanes blocked there. you have your drive getting over toward the bay bridge, no major problems. here is the bay bridget self, across, eight minutes. san mateo bridge westbound, these are all westbound commutes, those are just fine. your alternate to the eastbound lower deck is running on time. >> a lot going on out there. take it slow if you can. coming up, "nbc bay area responds." their relatively new leather furniture is peeling apart. i'm consumer investigator chris chmura. this morning.. already a busy friday for you as you're getting ready to go to work. rain sweeping through the bay area this morning north to south, all over. a live look at the golden gate bridge right now, one of the places seeing slick roadways. we have a team in place to help you get out the door safely. good morning on this friday.

thank you for joining us, i'm sam brock. >> i'm laura garcia-cannon. we're covering the wet weather happening out there. a big crash on the bay bridge closing all lanes eastbound. we'll get to that in just a moment. >> we start the meteorologist rob mayeda. we're seeing movement north and east still. >> probably the heaviest of the storm about halfway through the bay area. it is moving south to north there. you're seeing the view from san francisco to the tri-valley. we're closely watching the areas of yellow and orange offshore. that should move through between now and 8:00 this morning as the system makes a mess of the morning commute. you can see how heavy the rain will be through about 11:00. then things transition to scattered showers. the afternoon and evening commute shouldn't be as bad as what we see right now. the downpours certainly causing big problems for the morning commute. with more on that, here is mike. >> in san francisco we also have this big issue getting out of the city. again, this is getting on to the

lower deck out of san francisco city streets towards treasure island a crash and fuel spill involving a big rig blocking the left four lanes. the majority of lanes are closed and so are a number of on-ramps. we have a problem getting out of the city via the bay bridge. the rest of the city, a likely slower drive because of the wet conditions. we've had spinouts in sunol, the peninsula and north bay as well. consider mass transit. b.a.r.t. is an alternate to get out of this big backup getting out of san francisco. i know our road warrior kris sanchez is out there. you and josh are stuck in a backup right now? >> reporter: we are stuck in the backup. you can see all the brake lights. i wouldn't say it's a parking lot yet, but we're not far from that being the case. josh sis from the driver's side, it looks like the chp is taking

people off the freeway and off the fourth street off-ramp, getting off the roadway because of those two to three lanes that are closed on the bay bridge this morning. it is going to be a very rough commute. from here now it looks like there might be a traffic break up ahead and chp might be directing everybody to get off at this point. if you can telecommute, that might be your best bet if you are in san francisco and headed to the east bay. if you can leave in a few hours that's probably a good bet as well. we're going to exit and try to see what we can find for you. we will be back with you in 30 minutes. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> thank you very much, kris. from the roadways to the mountains, it's not just the slick roads we or monitoring, but the possibility of mudslides in the loma fire's burn area. "today in the bay's" bob redell is live at the summit for us. what are things looking like from your perspective?

>> reporter: good morning, sam. we're seeing a light rain, a misty drizzle. headlights behind me on highway 17 are heading north into silicon valley. police and fire are asking that you watch your speeds, keep your distance between you and the car in front of you. otherwise you end up with what they had yesterday on highway 17. the nbc bay area crew was out here when there were three separate accidents that happened at roughly the same time. in the most serious collision paramedics had to transport two people to the hospital. first responders were so busy with all these accidents, they had to rely on mutual aid, calling in extra help from cal fire. the resulting backup stretched for a couple miles in each direction. the people who live up here in ben lo ben loam man area. valley church united a ready to open up its food bank and fire

up the ham radio operation. >> this is an area that gets a lot of precipitation. we'll get ten inches when someone else gets two inches up in this area. >> first responders reassured us that they will be at least having their senses up and running given the rain is coming down. they will be ready if there's a lot of traffic from santa cruz, to deal with the accidents. live at the summit in the santa cruz mountains, bob redell, "today in the bay." you can download our free nbc bay area app. we can send push notifications on any major traffic delays or problems associated with this storm. police in san francisco are investigating a stabbing not far from city hall that left a young man with life-threatening injuries. this happened yesterday afternoon when investigators say an argument turned violent at the united nations plaza near civic center. police say the suspect was yelling in the plaza and somehow got into an argument with

another man who he then stabbed multiple times. both men are in the hospital, but police say the suspect was cut from his own knife. several home burglaries in the east bay have police turning to the public. san leandro police are investigating three burglaries and two attempted break-ins from last friday. they don't believe the same person is responsible for all. this took place on friday morning on brad hoff avenue. the four other incidents were in the bay vista neighborhood. they're hoping someone in the neighborhood has surveillance video that can help the investigation. a fairfield woman caught on video throwing a dog is spending six months behind bars. the video you're about to see is unsettling. fir faeld police arrested brandy chin. she's the woman in the video throwing the dog. the dog is okay.

police say it's her boyfriend's pug she threw during a heated conflict. the judge sentenced her to three years' probation and 180 days in jail. a dental assistant accused of sexually assaulting numerous children and recording the crimes on his smart phone appearance before a judge. concord police say alejandro saro accused several patients at two different offices. since the arrest, authorities have identified two more girls allegedly abused on camera. fraternity parties allowed again at uc berkeley following a week-long ban. the greek system says the suspension was voluntary after two women reported being sexually assaulted at off-campus fraternity houses. the ban isn't the only thing they're doing. at parties they say guests will be greeted with a door with consent talk and there will be people monitoring partygoers' sobriety. more serious than the

sniffles. hundreds of students calling in sick at an east bay high school. parents and school leaders are getting worried. >> sore throat and really runny nose and fever. >> all those sick calls are at clayton valley charter high school in concord. school officials say the flu is going around. every day this week about 250 kids stayed home which they say is double a typical day. >> last week another school had high incidences, i think antioch and pittsburg had issues. >> school officials are disinfecting restrooms daily, wiping down desk tops and spraying a lot of disinfectant. those good old wipes. >> those clorox wipes are always helpful. a live look at pacifica where the storm is continuing to store up activity along the coastline. a combination of rain and waves is eating away at the city's

foundation. we see those aerial shots of crumbling cliffs. we'll have a live report on that story up next half hour. first rob has more. >> this storm, look at it. it's interesting though. going from south to north? >> the area of low pressure bringing the subtropical moisture to the bay area crossing the coast. the rain is moving out of morgan hill, eventually going into livermore. san jose a bit of a break. rain from san francisco into oakland. 580/680 is a mess with moderate rain and ponding on the roads from pleasanton into sunol. you can see the rain going from south to north. this is the next batch of heavier showers between now and 8:00 this morning. hour-by-hour, the weather planner for san jose, transition time 10:00 to 11:00 with scattered showers. the afternoon and evening commute looks better as moisture begins to move away. mild temperatures this afternoon

despite the fact we've got all the rain outside. upper 60s to near 70. later today and early tomorrow we catch a bit of a break. another storm comes in that's going to have more wind and a chance of thunderstorms, too, and sierra snow. that is your sunday storm and another system drops in monday into tuesday. all the rain causing huge problems around the bay bridge this morning. >> that's right, rob. that's complicating things. we have a major issue. i'm show you the bay. most of the traffic flow smooth. the slowing on 85, no incident there. it doesn't sound like there are problems in the south bay other than slick roads and a couple spinouts. the big issue is getting on to the bay bridge. we joined in with chris and josh getting opt the freeway. i'm told by josh that the driver and photographer, he said cars look like they're able to get back onto the sky way as well, a little distance later. this will be a tough commute. at that point only one lane is open getting onto the lower deck. this is a big issue getting out of san francisco.

you'll want to use an alternate to the south, the san mateo bridge or underneath the water because the bart trains are showing no delays. caltrans camera, on the bottom of the screen you see the flashing lights and all the taillights, that's jammed up right around 6th at eastbound 80. that's a nightmare, avoid that area if you can. >> looks like b.a.r.t., no delays there, that's good news. >> so far, so good there. up next, sophisticated international phone scam that toppled dozens of victims. the search for a bay area man accused in this ring. plus the senate has very tough questions this morning. but they've got the wrong guy. we'll take a look coming up in business and tech. it's day five of a massive computer outage at the dmv. the bay area office that is still impacted this morning.

letter demanding executives show up for questioning in washington. senators chuck grassley, patrick leahy told this guy, rob warner, you come to the senate subcommittee, we have serious questions about this $84 billion merger to which rob warner of time warner cable said, u.s. senate, you've got the wrong guy and the wrong company. you're thinking of time warner. new into the newsroom, latest data on the u.s.gdp shows better-than-expected growth. the gdp is a measure of all the work we do as americans, the lattes made and turbines built show 2.9% growth, the best in two years. stocks posted modest losses thursday. investors sifting through earnings, the dow fell 29, nasdaq down 24. alphabet and amazon will move quite a brit today after the two companies reported profits. there were two companies with ipos who had their first day of

trading on thursday. both of them got whacked in the markets. chinese company zto, largest ipo in america so far this year, down 15%. myovant sciences out of brisb e brisbane, down 11%. an ipo is when a company sells stock privately to the first investor. first day of trading is when investors turn around and sell you the company. in both cases the companies did fine. the first investors, they got burned. >> no kidding. you turned a little jim cramer on us there. they got whacked! that's interesting there. that's a tough one. 5:47. an oakland man is on the run this morning, one of dozens of people linked to a sophisticated international phone scam. federal agents announced the arrest yesterday. as nbc bay area's vittive kmupt helped first uncover, callers would pose as irs agents and

threaten the person on the other line if they didn't pay bogus taxes. there were more than 10,000 victims including many in the bay area. i got a few phone calls in fact. the amount of money lost is said to be in the hundreds of millions. >> the number for the irs, the general number given to taxpayers to call, they were spoofing that phone number. >> several suspects are still at large including a man who was last seen in oakland. the feds are warning people that irs agents won't ever call you demanding money and certainly won't take payment in the form of prepaid debit cards. some light finally at the end of the funnel for the dmv which says it has made significant progress on computer problems that left many people seeking services this the dark for days. this has been going on since monday. dmv offices across the state started seeing what they described as a catastrophic

hardware failure, not a hack. it halted nearly all services at most dmv offices. however, online services were never affected. last night we learned all those problems have been fixed in the mountain view location. san jose not the main center in alma which is still running as it has been all week. the driver's license center is still having problems. nearly half of consumers across the globe have been victims of cybercrime. a majority of them are choosing not to report those crimes to authorities. a new study from mark monitor finds one in six victims have lost funds due to online fraud with 20% losing in excess of $1300. the most common fraud involves false requests to reset social media account passwords. 5:49. a very wet, soggy friday morning, a pretty bad commute out there. >> especially getting out of san francisco. >> take mass transit if you can. >> about half inch of rain

falling across the bay area. we'll have real problems on the rode with all the ponding caused by that rain. we could ood another half inch in most spots before 9:00. 60s across the board outside. significant rain totals like we haven't seen in a while. almost a half inch so far and still climbing. you see up the peninsula, palo alto and mountain view, numbers approaching .75 inch. right now a little break in the action in san jose where steadier rain is flying is in san francisco heading to the marin county coastline. for the north bay, especially, you're seeing some of the more heavier rain moving from south to north from san rafael into santa rosa. interesting the way the rain is moving this morning south to north. a weather system to our south crosses the central coast. looking at another four to six hours of on-again, off-again downpours for the morning commute. you see the transition as we move through the afternoon.

the showers begin to move to the east. less of an issue we think for the evening commute. in the meantime, we'll see mostly cloudy skies. upper 60s to near 70. the next event will be saturday into sunday as we sum up the impact of that saturday night to sunday storm, you can see the rain totals here could be approaching one to two inches again, especially around the north bay. that's probably the biggest impact of that sunday storm. a chance of thundershowers and the surf on the coast up to about 15 feet. after sunday, monday, increasing clouds monday night into tuesday, another round of showers. right now the halloween trick-or-treat time forecast with increasing clouds through the day, and for the north bay and areas north of san francisco, a chance the showers will be on approach from 6:30 to 9:30 on halloween night. south bay we hope will stay dry as we head into monday night. a busy seven-day forecast. sunday will be busy with a chance of wind, rain and thunder and sierra snow.

the thursday storm right now looks mainly for the north bay. more rain across the board on that seven-day forecast. >> trying to get the latest on the situation that's fluid, if you will, over at the bay bridge. the rain on the roadways, slippery conditions. be careful for the ponding, puddling and slippery conditions. friday has a lighter commute overall. getting into san francisco westbound, that behaves normally for the bay bridge. getting out of the city, a big rig crash and a fuel spill. it looks like it's moving around so they're having trouble to make sure it doesn't get into the drainage in the area. we have the majority of lanes getting into the bay bridge closed. i learned the first street on-ramp is open. they continue to rotate around as the bay bridge has to show some activity and the chp has to continue to close different lanes as needed by this situation. an option getting out of the area is b.a.r.t. 45 trains reported on time

fishing net that otr stateve over the years thousands of animals along our coast have been killed by a very specific type of fishing net that other states have banned. >> investigative reporter bigad shaban has been looking into it. good morning. these fishing nets are known as drift gill nets, designed to catch sword fish, but they can entangle a lot more than what fishermen are actually after. we want to warn yu some of the images are hard to look at. over the years thousands of animals have been killed after getting caught in these nets ranging from whales to sea lions. we managed to obtain years' worth of government records and discovered that only about 22% of what's caught in these nets is actually kept. the rest is tossed back into the ocean. it's estimated 87,000 sharks

were killed in these nets over the last 25 years over the west coast. 3,400 dolphins, 1,100 sea lions, 389 whales which includes endangered species and 107 sea turtles which are all either endangered or threatened. fishermen say the nets are the best tools for catching sword fish and tell us without them they'd be likely forced out of business. plus they point to new policies and precautions in the industry that have led to fewer animals getting caught. over the last two decades the number of entangled marine mammals has been cut in half. currently there are no penalties for fishermen when they kill endangered or threatened animals. this month the feds proposed a new law for them to close for up to two years if certain whales or sea turtles are killed or even injured. to find out exactly which types of animals have been caught and how much, we created an easy-to-use tool that lets you search through 25 years' worth
