mud. last night the students walked through the campus, uneasy about the gruesome discovery. >> you're on a college campus and you want to know you're safe. if it is an older, like, 18-year-old, you'll feel you are a little unsafe in the fact that they could be coming after you. >> an 18-year-old male, that would be a little more scary. that's like all of us here. >> the victim was last seen october 17th meeting cotati to meet a friend on his bike. t first pictures of an enormous fire in san bernardino. we know it's at a pallet yard, a big response with several agencies responding. we don't have word on injuries. our sister station in los angeles is working to give us video. we'll bring that to you. a gunman shot and one dead. san jose police say that gunman is still on the loose. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us with the time

of day that this crime happened, makes it particularly worry son. >> reporter: 6:30 in the evening. the time when a lot of families would be coming and going. there was a park nearby where kids might have been outside playing. it happened in the neighborhood with fair ri tale 2345e78s. it sounds strange to say that the violence happened near bambi lane and peter pan avenue. one man died at the scene, the other rushed to the hospital but will survive his injuries. police have not said where that victim was able to identify the gunman nor the motive for the shooting. the victim who died has not been identified yesterday or hiss identity has not been released. we can tell you he is the city's 41st homicide victim this year. at this time last year there were 30. if you know anything about this crime, you can give the information to police anonymously. kris sanchez, "today in the bay."

today the contra costa county d.a. will reveil the results of an investigation into the sexual misconduct scandal related to the alleged sexual abuse by police officers in contra costa county with a self-proclaimed prostitute. the victim claims she has sexual relations with dozens of bay area officers, some when she was a minor. several officers face criminal charges. others have been fired. plenty of questions in oakland this morning after a bizarre and gruesome discovery. a woman's burned body was found around noon yesterday near arroya diego park. so far police have released no other information. authorities are looking for a young police volunteer who has mysteriously disappeared. 21-year-old ka la ramirez is a police explorer with the alameda county sheriff's office. deputies say she was last seen

wednesday night. her car was later found in an area where deputies say she has no known acquaintances. she's five fetal and 160 pounds. police in palo alto arrested these two men sunday at a vacant commercial building. officers say the pair are a man and his nephew. the two were found with burglary gear and wire cutters. investigators later connected them to two wire copper thefts last month targeting the very same building. a new high school has been approved despite concerns about the location. this week the menlo park high school project has been approved in an industrial neighborhood. the 400 students will focus on design and technology. critics say it will increase traffic. the school will open in 2018.

san jose state students waking up after sleeping outside as a way to stand in solidarity with the homeless. activists health the sleep-out on the school's smith carlos lawn. city leaders are also taking part. students began gathering at 7:00 last night. we were there early this morning when everyone was still asleep. the event ends with a breakfast discussion at 9:00 this morning. an unusual and perhaps emotional protest in san francisco. three mothers whose children were killed by police will lead a sit-in, playing to hold it at d.a. george cass cone's office. the group, justice for mario woods, holding the protest at noon. a high surf advisory still in effect at our beaches until tonight. right now the coast guard is warning surfers and swimmers to be on the lookout for twor-story size sneaker waves. don't turn your back. good news following our drought. all the rain we've been getting

is doing us well. nearly a quarter of california now out of the drought. the u.s. drought monitor report says these are the best conditions since 2013. water officials say october's rainfall was triple the amount in northern california. a little break from the rain. maybe a hint of it sometime this weekend? >> we'll see a little more as we get into the weekend. i want to show you the big change you just mentioned, the droughts from year to year. you can see the area in white. this is the north coast we were talking about that had the amount of rain about three times as much as we typically see in october. that is a huge change from last year to what we're seeing out there now. here is the problem. central an southern california, virtually no change at all and we're likely not going the see much rain heading into central and southern california in the next several days. outside, 47 degrees around livermore, oakland 56 and a mild 57 in san francisco. 70s across the board.

expected to show that companies stepped up their hiring and boosted wages next month which may fuel the case for an interest rate hike negligent month. markets fell with the s&p 500 down for an eighth straight day, the longest losing streak since 2008. dow dropping 28 points to 17,930. the nasdaq down 47 to 5058. prosecutors are reportedly close to filing criminal charges against makers of generic drugs possibly by the end of the year. the justice department has sent subpoenas seeking information on whether the drugmakers worked together or discussed how they could raise prices on off-brand medications. chase customers will soon have another way to pay at walmart. next year the retail giant will start chase k allowing you to purchase with your smart phone.

grave at sonoma state university. we know it's a young man from cotati. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos live with more on what we're learning about his death. >> reporter: you can expect a shocked campus community when students show up. we know 18-year-old kirk kimberly of cat at that tiotati identified. according to the police department he was last seen riding his bike from cotati to meet a friend at rohnert park. the remains of his body first discovered on wednesday by an employee at the university, about two football fields away from the student parking lot. after notifies campus police, the incident was turned over to the sheriff's office. they say the body was covered with dirt and debris. this tragic turn of events has

hillsborough. that's the third burglary or armed home invasion in hillsborough or portola valley in the last two weeks. last night police were out to answer questions from homeowners. detectives investigating recent burglaries throughout the peninsula say one similarity stands out. >> they're not local, they're traveling. they don't want to be recognized and they want to come here, commit the crime and go back home. >> in the meantime locals formed the hillsborough neighborhood network to spread alerts on the internet about the spike in burglaries. 5:34. new details about a disturbing investigation in the east bay. a bay area nanny accused of abusing an infant. surveillance camera caught ingrid perez beating a 6-month-old baby. apparently the baby was not injured. perez was arrested while she was

on her way to another child care job. it's a sexual misconduct scandal that's rocked several bay area police departments. today new details will be unveiled. "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live from martinez with what the contra costa county district attorney could say later this morning. >> reporter: good morning, laura. during an 11:00 a.m. news conference in martinez, the contra costa county district attorney is expected to release the results of its investigation into law enforcement officers who allegedly had inappropriate rips with or with involved in the abuse of a 19-year-old girl named jasmine who used to go by the name celeste guap. it's possible more officers during today's news conference could face criminal charges. jasmine, whose mother is an opd, oakland police dispatcher claims she had sex with dozens of officers from many agencies in the east bay, many times for money, sometimes when she was under age. these allegations led to

internal investigations by departments including oakland, richmond, livermore and sf as well as alameda and contra costa county sheriff's offices. several oakland and richmond police officers have been disciplined. alameda charged eight officers with crimes related to this scandal. live in martinez, bob redell, "today in the bay." 5:36 right now. the latest twist involving san francisco's sinking millennium tower may well send that case to course. san francisco attorney den necessary herrera says potential buyers were kept in the dark about issues involving the tower, issues nbc bay area's investigative unit helped uncover. >> buyer beware doesn't cut it here. someone selling real estate must disclose details about known property conditions. the law is very clear on that. >> the tower has sunk more than a foot since it opened and it's now slightly leaning.

some condo owners tell us they just want to know the building is safe. 5:36 this morning. people living in parts of oakland say the amount of trash being left on their streets is a health hazard. today they'll make sure the city hears their concerns. oakland mayor libby schaaf and council member larry reid will listen toer that stories and answer questions at a town hall meeting at st. louis bertrand church. 9:00 at joseph grant park will have a controlled burn today. covering a 200 acre area. you may see smoke and firefighters hope to wrap it up by 5:00. it's so close now some of you can almost taste it. the bay area's dungeness crab season just around the corner. the commercial crab season doesn't start for another 11 days on november 15.
