we'll start with a look at the forecast. we have 50s and 60s outside. as we head through the afternoon, you'll think we're winding back the forecast to august. we've got partly cloudy skies through the south bay and the tri-valley. some north bay locations will dip into the upper 40s. this is not a typo. looking at upper 70s to low 80s for highs around san jose. oak lapd highs in the mid 70s. patchy fog the only issue for the morning commute. >> looking at a nice weather forecast for the day as well as nice traffic. currently going on riept now except four the south bay. we have this issue blocking part of your connector, westbound 237 to southbound 85. it sounds like it was too narrow for the big rig to make it. it may be stuck there. ch pfrmts will be there. we'll track this event. also a couple other issues for san jose. we'll talk about that in a second. 14 minutes from highway 4 to the

bay bridge, easy through the east bay. >> we do begin with breaking news out of pennsylvania where at least one police officer is dead, another in the hospital after they were shot early this morning. we are just learn ing learning officers were ambushed. the shooting happened about 20 miles southwest of pittsburgh. a news conference just happened and we'll bring you new details in the next hour. we'll continue to track the story and bring you new information when we get it. this morning we're getting a clearer picture of the aftermath left after protests. >> you see the scenes from four parts of the bay area. update from local police, we know three officers were injured, more than 30 arrested. we're here on broadway avenue. you can see graffiti and damage along the block. you can see the broken glass, another vacant building that was damaged during the protests. i want to queue up new video where you can see some of these protesters smashing police cars and setting fire in the streets. as you mentioned, it started in frank plaza last evening. several came out in protest in the election of donald trump. police deploying teargas. police say some of the groups began to assault officers with rocks, bottles, even molotov cocktails. businesses were vandalized around downtown. we'll show you some video across the bay to san francisco, much more peaceful protest in the

house to begin the transition of power. >> yesterday crews began building the stands where america's 45th president will take the oath of office on january 20th. president obama says his transition team has been preparing for the last year despite the fact he and trump do not see eye to eye. >> it is no secret that the president elect and i have some pretty significant differences. but remember, eight years ago president bush and i had some pretty significant differences. >> president obama said he wanted to copy his predecessor, president bush, in smoothing the transfer of power. >> let's go to some state measures. prop 64 which will make it legal to smoke marijuana recreationally in california, that's done. we're now learning new details a new law is going to deliver something else in the fine print of that measure. now that it's approved, hundreds of thousands with marijuana felonies on their records, either sitting in jail or soon facing a judge could have their criming downgraded to a

misdemeanor. there are some requirements to reduce those marijuana sentences. no charges can involve children and the arrest had to be when the person was 21 years or older. also the amount had to be an ounce to six plants in the home. the change could give a lot of people a second chance to apply for a job. >> now under current law those are all misdemeanors. >> there will be a process, sending an application, getting it processed and i'm no longer a felon. >> supporters of prop 64 say it could take months to end up adjusting those records. for all the results of all the races in your area and in california, just check out our website. we have an entire section devoted to just the election. that's in nbcbayarea.com. a deadly family altercation. now police say one man is under arrest. police in livermore say 35-year-old tyler haskel stabbed

figure out what these laws all mean. the death penalty opponents are moving quickly to block california's prop 66 from actually taking effect. voters narrowly approved the measure. it will speed up death penalty cases by assigning more attorneys and having trial court judges hear some of those cases. a new lawsuit is asking the state supreme court to issue an injunction, arguing that the law will cost more money, create more confusion in courts and limit the ability to mount proper appeals. california has not executed a plizer in since 2006. >> happening today, santa clara county leaders will look for ways to pay for changes to the jail system. one item on this after none's agenda, the jail custody policy. reform efforts are being taken after a series of abuses including the beating death of a mentally ill en mate last year. three yards now face criminal charges in that case.

between now and 9:00, patchy fog could be an issue. low 50s around santa rosa, dipping into the upper 40s before sunrise. 57 right now, you've got mostly clear skies. you can see hazy skies and low clouds downtown. santa cruz about a quarter mile visibility. the north bay and tri-valley a little better than yesterday. we had thick fog with visibilities down to about a quarter mile. not so far this morning. look at these temperatures this afternoon. we're going back to summer-like numbers, especially for areas of south of san jose. even downtown close to 80 degrees. for the tri-valley, low 80s. livermore near 80, concord 78, hayward 75, oakland 76. palo alto close to 78 degrees. the wind slightly offshore and we'll see cooling as the sea breeze picks up for tomorrow.

highs in san francisco for the low 70s, for the north bay, upper 70s in the forecast. the forecast heading into the weekend, here is our saturday system. we're looking at light showers from about 4:00 a.m. through 11:00 in the morning. as we transition to the afternoon, the skies be again to thin in terms of the cloud cover. seven-day forecast a little cooldown as we move into the weekend. best chance for showers around here. that's going to be tuesday and wednesday. big temperatures today near 80. highs in the low 60s. >> we're not going to like this, one set of flashing lights. i believe that's a crew that has arrived to help with a crash reported as you're approaching treasure island. you see traffic moving across the bay bridge. in the tunnel itself you may have one lane blocked by a single car crash. we're still following this.

add to yesterday's strong gains in what was a wild ride of a trading session. stocks went from potential massive losses in the pre market hours as investors digested election results to a rally with sectors that could potentially benefit from a trump administration such as pharmaceuticals and financials leading those games. japan's nikkei dropped 900 points yesterday, it rebounded with a thousand-point gain today. europe is higher across the board. some investors pointing to trump sounding presidential in his victory speech and his plan to cut taxes and spend on infrastructure. the dow at 18,589, just shy of a record close. nasdaq up 57 to 5251. black friday is coming a few weeks early for waum mart shoppers. starting today you can grab holiday deals including a laptop for under 30 bucks and a 65-inch hd tv.

it will be well stocked on friday with millions of tvs, tablets and computers ready for purchase online and in stores. yahoo! admits at least some employees knew a state-sponsored hacker got access to the network shortly after a cyber attack took place in 2014. the company says it first discovered the breach which affected data from at least 500 million users in august. yahoo! says it's investigating whether the hacker created a way to access user information without a password, sam and laura. back over to you. >> landon dowdy, thank you very much. post election outrage is sparking a movement to make california it's own nation called a calexit. >> the term is a take-off from brexit. there's even a website devoted to the idea called yes kra california. the group is trying to get it on the 2018 ballot. >> i was talking to my friend about this today that i hope and pray it comes true. >> that's crazy, just beyond

golden gate bridge this morning. it's dark now. it is going to be light and beautiful later today. >> well, not beautiful in the south bay. an alleged theft and stabbing at a south bay walmart. please say noel caldron and kimberly angeles were confronted by an assistant manager outside walmart after an alleged shoplifting. the manager is expected to fully recover. >> a bay area deejay is robbed while he was shopping. police say someone stole her backpack and it was loaded with high-tech expensive equipment. deejay jamaica sook post ed. her backpack contained years worth of her work. she posted an update on the facebook page on monday saying

police have a suspect in custody. so far they haven't recovered any of her stolen equipment. 4:54. landlords in san francisco are using a certain kind of eviction to kick out tenants at a rate so high it represents a 200% increase from five years ago. what's behind the spike? tonight at 11:00, our investigative unit exposes the problem. investigative reporter bigad shaban and others spent six months looking into evictions across san francisco, interviewing over 100 people. what they found appears to show abuse so widespread it's even shocking those in charge of investigating wrongful evictions. >> it does surprise me it's that high. we're talking about people's houses, people's homes, if you would. we're facing a crisis. there's no way to minimize how important that is. >> where has the city been? why doesn't there appear to be oversight. >> like many laws on the books, we are a complaint-driven
