we're seeing 51 degrees and patchy fog in dublin. on the left side you see clear skies in san jose, 51 degrees. haze in san francisco. 58 degrees, 67 by around 2:00 today. 75 in san jose and close to 70 today? santa cruz. >> not all schools, but many schools getting today off. businesses as well. we know that from the signs we see. much less traffic as we look at your approach. your speeds and times getting over toward the bay bridge, looking great. 15 minutes upper eastshore freeway. no delays for the toll plaza. let me show you the live toll plaza shot we have. this backup is for the fast track lanes. the cash lanes are moving smoother. that means the more frequent commuters that have fast track, they are in line. if you pay cash this morning, you can actually save yourself a wait. . let's get to an update,

breaking news we've been following all morning long. a crew some discovery in the east bay. three bodies were found at the scene of an overnight fire. investigators say they may have been murders. "today in the bay's" damian trujillo is on site. investigators are saying this was a triple homicide? >> reporter: that's right, sam. in fact, more officers arrived on scene a short while ago. possible relief for the officers who have been here overnight. the call came in just after midnight on dunbar drive near 98th avenue in east coke land. there was a fire involved in the home where police responded. we are hearing unconfirmed reports of shots being fired here at the scene. still trying to get confirmation from oakland police on that incident that we are hearing about at the crime scene. this came after midnight and police do have one person who they have in custody right now questioning that person over at police headquarters. we are waiting to get more

information from the police spokesperson, but we understand with all of the protests on the streets in oakland for the last two nights, it's been quite a busy couple of days for the spokes people. we'll try to get more information either from commanders at the scene or the spokesperson who should arrive on location any minute now, we're being told by the officers on location. again, three people dead, trip homicide in oakland. one person is in custody. that is the latest. in oak lapd, damian trujillo for "today in the bay." >> damian, thank you very much. >> peaceful protests, peaceful protests! >> while you were sleeping, what started as peaceful protests turned into riots on the streets of portland, oregon. 29 people were arrested there. all the chaos over the election of donald trump. in a similar scene played out here in the bay area, "today in the bay's" bob redell joins us live in oakland this morning. bob, while people took to the streets there, it was a calmer night compared to the night

befo before. >> reporter: correct. unfortunately last night's protests in downtown oakland were much more peaceful than the previous nights when several windows were broking. that's why property owners boarded up windows that weren't boarded up were. the crowd last night was much smaller, in the several hundreds as opposed to the several thousand on wednesday. the protesters rallied against the election of donald trump for about two hours at frank ogawa plaza, and then started their march down broadway, raising fears of more violence and vandalism. a pastor stood on the street corner and begged people to keep their cool while another man made this passionate plea. >> who cares about trump? this is oakland streets, my town. do not tear up oakland! >> donald trump is the president. the man said he was going to do this, that and the other for our community. let's give him a chance to do

that. >> reporter: protesters did try to get on the freeway and for a short time police were able to keep them off even as some in the you threw bottles. no officers were hurt. it was around 9:30 that some protesters got onto 580 shutting down both sides of the freeway for 30 minutes. that's when the chp arrested two people. reporting live in downtown oakland, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> bob, thank you very much. protesters also blocking traffic in san jose. this was the scene on highway 87 right by sjc. that was shortly after 9:00 p.m. last night. video posted to social media showed the traffic mess as the crowd blocked the highway there. these protests eventually marched to the mlk library right by city hall. from the streets to the schools. #notmypresident was the rallying cry for thousands of high school students across the bay area who

walked out of their classrooms in protests. one protest in particular left a south bay principal on leave for a word he used to describe president elect donald trump. "today in the bay's" kris sanchez will have more on that story coming up at 6:35. just a couple hours ago, donald trump took to twitter regarding the protests. he said, quote, love the fact that the small groups of protesters last night have passion for our great country. we will all come together and be proud. the president elect mate with the current president, trump and obama had their first ever face-to-face meeting at the white house yesterday. the two leaders discussed the transitioning of power. the meeting lasted for 90 minutes. no secret trump and obama are not fans of each other. white house officials say the meeting was less awkward than many expected. trump opened the door to seek the president's counsel in the future. >> mr. president, it was a great honor being with you, i look forward to being with you many, many more times in the fou tour.

>> thank you. my number one priority in the coming two months is to try to facilitate a transition that ensures our president elect is successful. >> in the meantime, first lady michelle obama had tea with the future first lady, melania trump. after that they met up with their husbands in the oval office. after that meeting the trumps visited with speaker of the house paul ryan. they had lunch and took a tour of the area where donald trump will be inaugurated as this nation's 45th president on january 20th. >> that transition under way. at 6:07 right now. an attack on the san jose state campus. a muslim student said she was targeted simply because of her faith. this happened at the west gate parking lot in broad daylight on wednesday. she says the attacker came from behind, grabbed the back of her hijab and pulled her down.

members of the muslim community most certainly are on edge. >> frankly, we're worried that donald trump's victory will embolden some of his more vitriolic and divisive supporters. >> it comes at the same time san diego police are investigating another on-campus indent involving an attack on a muslim american student. a south bay man hospitalized for more than six months following an assault in san jose has died. 48-year-old tim cheeseman initially told a friend he was assaulted on april 18th. his condition worsened the next day. he was hospitalized with life-threatening injuries. days later detectives identified james lamont as a suspect and arrested him. cheeseman was initially expected to survive and spent the last few months in an incentive care unit. his death marks the area's 43rd homicide of the year. helping homeless veterans in

san francisco, mayor ed leanne nounsed 75 new homes will be dedicated this fall and winter. according to the "san francisco examiner," the city has housed more than 700 homeless veterans and there are still hundreds of others still in need of a place. the new homes are part of a larger housing effort in san francisco. there are 30 units available at the crown hotel for veterans. 6:09. we're seeing some patchy fog around the bay area, but overall pretty nice weather for veterans day plans. upper 60s and mid 70s for highs with increasing high clouds later today. highs near 75 in san jose. 70s in santa cruz with low clouds. 72 in oakland. around this time tomorrow morning, we could see drizzle or light rain before skies turn cloudy tomorrow afternoon. midweek looks interesting. we've got a good chance of rain and sierra snow along with a big drop in temperatures approaching wednesday. we're looking over here at an interesting commute. right now a lighter flow of track.

temperatures approaching the mid 70s. slight chance of rain as we approach the weekend. a look at that coming up. a smooth easy drive down the eastshore freeway. no real delays for the metering lights that just turned on at the bay bridge. fast track is the way. bring cash if you want to get through faster. the congested streets of san francisco about to get a little more congested. main artery of the city will be under construction today. van ness avenue is undergoing a major overhaul. crews will be at the intersection of van ness and broadway where they'll be reconfiguring the southbound lanes. the street will eventually include two southbound lanes and two left turn lanes from van ness on to broadway. on the weekends left turn lanes will be removed at all but three intersections. the project is expected to finish in 2019. women are now wondering what a donald trump campaign will

company for their health care. on the campaign trail he said repealing the affordable care act is a top priority. people in social media are urging women to get to the doctor before inauguration day. repealing obama care could leave women without coverage for birth control. planned parenthood says the phones are ringing nonstop. some are concerned about their covered california insurance. >> we've received a number of calls from clients who are concerned about what does this mean for them and is that going to happen tomorrow. >> planned parenthood says regardless of whatever happens with obama care and federal funding for it, their doors will remain open. pharmaceutical stocks doing well. >> construction stocks moving up as well. an expectation of mr. trump's new stimulus plan. that's turned into a donald trump rally on the dow. >> dow moving higher for the second day in a row, laura,

after the big move wednesday following his election. the dow 218 to the positive. the s&p 500 slightly higher. the nasdaq down aztec stocks were hit yesterday. sign of the times though. corrections kofrmgs up 43%, it makes private prisons and inv t investors thinks it will likely get the contract to hold illegal immigrants. mr. trump said when he's president he'll roll back protections put into place after the banking crisis including department of defense frank and will take a look at scaling back or understanding the consumer financial protection bureau. that's the agency that fined wells fargo for cheating customers. wells fargo set up phantom credit cards and checking accounts. accounts customers didn't want and didn't know they had. tellers complained to the internal ethics lines and those calls were, quote, mishandled. some people with new balance

shoes are throwing them out or setting them on fire after the head of new balance announced his support for trump and his plans to end trade agreements. new balance shoes are made here in america and the company has to compete with overseas labor. the ceo of food delivery app grub hub trying to explain a memo he sent to employees at at first glance said he was asking trump supporters at the company to quit. if you read his memo carefully, he does not say that. matt maloney says he wants the company to continue to be tolerant and diverse. if employees cannot be tolerant, he invites them to resign. he also says mr. trump's behavior would have gotten him fired from the company if he worked there. a careful reading of the memo, he's clearly not happy with mr. trump. he says if you're going to behave like mr. trump, you can't work here. i don't care who you vote for.

>> about values, not politics. >> correct. >> president obama will be honoring our nation's veterans, he'll pay tribute by laying a wreath at the tomb of the unknown as the president does every year, an annual observance at arlington national cemetery. the president will be thanking veterans for their service. this is president obama's final veterans day ceremony as president. this veteran's day, it's a great time to stop and thank those who have served our country. today at 4:00, the american legion will hold a ceremony to rededicate a vietnam plaque. that plaque honoring 163 san francisco men killed in the vietnam war has been on san francisco's embarcadero for 15 years. as you can see, the plaque has suffered from weather, vandalism and lack of maintenance. now it's getting a new home. >> able to come here and read that name and say we remember is really important. >> very important. the american legion war memorial

>> reporter: that's the rumor in dunbar drive in oakland. officers are still here at the scene. this is a newer development in oakland off 98th avenue just east of highway 880. several streets have been cordoned off. here is what we know so far. there were reports of gunshots in the neighborhood when officers arrived the home they were responding to was on fire. firefighters arrived and doused the flames at that point, but they did discover three bodies on the scene making this a triple homicide. they have one person in custody questioning that person over at police headquarters. one neighbor came out earlier today and said he was also being kept in the dark, not allowed to come out of his home and actually did not know how he was going to get to work. officers were able to lead him away from the crime scene at this point.

traffic on highway 80. about 7,000 people marched from frank ogawa plaza. some got violent for a third straight night. that was not the majority. some did throw rocks, bottles and fireworks. >> from the streets to the schools, thousands of students across the bay area walked out of class yesterday to protest the election results. their rallying cry "not my president." one demonstration in the south bay left a principal in trouble. >> "today in the bay's" kris sanchez joins us with more on why the milpitas high school principal is now on leave, kris. >> reporter: good morning, sam and laura. that battle cry of "not my president" has changed. now many of the students taking to an online petition saying bring our principal back now that that principal is on paid administrative leave. this is video of fillmophil mor. it was during the rally that he

allegedly used profanity. the students responded with applause, but the administration isn't clapping. the students have taken the protests online. they've changed the message. nearly 4000 signed a change.org petition asking for reinstatement of principal morales. over at concord high school academy there was an altercation between a student and teacher where witnesses say the student hit the teacher after the teacher slapped a phone out of the student's hand. there were three arrests in contra costa county as the thousands of students were peaceful until they walked onto 680. >> we don't come here to sell drugs, we don't come here to rape anyone, we don't come to do anything bad. we come here to work and get an education. >> since donald trump, i don't feel safe being a muslim in this country. >> hundreds of students walked through traffic on the streets of san francisco and also across the bay, took over oakland mayor

his song writing. cohen was 2 years old. a deadly street light that happened during broad daylight, here is video of what the scene looked like afterwards. we've learned 20-year-old juan el campo was the man who died in the crash. investigators say he was racing another driver on the san thomas expressway on sunday afternoon. witnesses report the cars were going 100 miles an hour. he later crashed into a tree and a wall. police are looking for the driver of a silver acura tsx or tl. a retired oakland police captain is now facing charges in a sex abuse candle. contra county prosecutors charged 81-year-old al peridine. a total of 12 oakland officers and 11 richmond officers have been disciplined for their involvement in the scandal. 6:46.

charges expected to be filed against two people accused of stealing from a patient at a walnut creek hospital. this is surveillance video of the incident. it happened last week at john muir hospital. you see a patient and his wife leave their room to go for a walk. two other people are then seen near the room, one of them goes inside. police say he stole wallets and a kindle. a hospital worker spotted the suspect inside the hospital a few days later. they were arrested, but they're out of custody this morning and awaiting charges. it was one of our country's darkest days in recent memory. now this morning we're getting new images of the horror that unfolded during the mass shooting at pulse nightclub in orlando over the summer as body camera video from law enforcement officers shows the victims pouring out of the club. >> please help my friends. they're very injured. >> they're coming. >> those body cameras show officers rushing in with gurneys as they try to help victim after victim. it also shows tense moments near

welcome back on this friday morning. veterans day as well. before you head out the door, here are the top stories on nbc bay area. >> right to breaking we've been falling out of oakland. a house fire put police on the scene investigating a trip homicide. there's still yellow police tape out there. investigators are casing the area trying to learn more information. this is what it loojd like only hours ago. admitted night actually near hawkins and dunbar drives. police found three bodies inside the home that was on fire. police tell us someone is being

questioned in that case. >> questions about security at sjc after a trespasser got onto the airfield. police say jerry hyde somehow made his way onto the restricted airfield around 1:00 yesterday morning. an electrician working on the airfield called police. this is the sixth airport breach there in the last 18 months. it comes after several upgrades to security including higher fences. developing news out of the east bay and another night of protests in oakland as people voice their anger over the outcome of the presidential election. although this version last night was decidedly more peaceful than the previous two nights. hundreds of protesters gather for a third night of demonstrations. at one point they moved onto interstate 508 and blocked both sides of the freeway. protesters used a similar tactic in san jose where they blocked traffic on highway 87 near the airport. this was shortly after 9:00 last night.
