especially considering that we're in the month of november, like you said, it's not really feeling that way. although we can't really complain because it makes for pretty decent weather to enjoy the outdoors. now, we are expecting to climb into those 70s but right now, overall, nice cool start to the day, peninsula, trivalley, seeing a little bit of that patchy fog, 59 degrees right now and as i mentioned, we should be feeling a little bit more like summer yet again but slightly cooler than those really warm temperatures we experienced about two days ago when we almost hit the 80s, a high of about 73 degrees in san jose as we move on over into the east way baio, also expecting to see those upper 60s but all in all, should make way for a pretty nice weekend ahead. i will have more details on exactly what you can expect moving forward and also a look ahead at the start of your workweek although i want to enjoy the weekend. >> we're going to pres press the pause button on that one.

protesters gathered around the bay area again to show their dissent while also renouncing the violence of some of the splinter groups. protesters took to the streets in san jose and oekt and san francisco again last night. this time, though, there was no damage and no one really blocked traffic on the freeways. president elect donald trump addressed the protest via twitter saying he loves the passion they're showing for our country. we begin in san jose where several hundred anti-trump protesters marched through the downtown area for the fourth straight night with police on standby. some of those officers were in riot gear, but they didn't need it. this group chanted peaceful protests throughout the night and they say they're doing whatever they can to deliver a message to the president elect. >> that's when problems start and this is what he's going to start. he wants to deport mexicans and m muslims and stuff like that. why does he want to split usa up like that? >> protesters in san jose say they are not going to stop any time soon. to san francisco where about 200

anti-trump protesters gathered peacefully in front of the ferry building. police monitored this gathering as well as the protesters blocked traffic for a short time along the embarcadero before then marching up market street. and in oakland, which saw the most destructive protests in the last few days, well, oakland saw peace on the streets as demonstrators gathered downtown. police escorted a group of about 100 people around the downtown area for hours. some business owners in the area say that peaceful or not, those protests are drawing attention but driving away customers. one restauranteur says that he's goating getting a lot of reservation cancellations. >> i've lost about between 80 and 100 reservations. on wednesday night, i marched with the protesters. and on wednesday night, i had to stand in front of our establishment until about 3:00 or 4:00 to make sure we didn't experience any damage or anything. >> he's been in the uptown area

for eight years so he reached out to other local businesses in the area, including some of the tech start-ups to encourage them not only to stay and dine in oakland but to just stay in oakland and keep their businesses there. and while protesters continue to decry the election results, the president elect transition team is working feverishly behind the scenes but under a new leader. vice president elect mike pence is now in charge of the transition team, replacing new jersey governor chris christie president elect made that change to capitalize on pence's washington experience. pence served in congress for ten years before he was elected indiana governor. >> it's a matter of -- mr. trump really feels that he's able to do that job and is qualified to do a certain job and he will serve him well. >> trump's three eldest children are also on that transition team as well as newt gingrich, rudy giuliani and ben carson. and as that transition

continues, president elect trump is sounding different from president -- or rather candidate trump. he's already backing off his campaign promise to repeal the affordable care act outright. trump transition. you can follow all of the developments on our twitter feed. you can also download our free app. to developing news overseas, a suicide attack at the largest u.s. base in afghanistan on the day that people were gathering to honor veterans with a fun run. defense leaders say the bomber managed to enter the heavily protected bagram air force base dressed as a laborer. there, while waiting in line, he detonated a suicide vest, killing at least four people and wounding 18 others. this attack has been claimed by the taliban this morning. about 100 people were at a veterans day memorial last night at the crosses of lafayette. there are about 4,000 crosses on the hillside, each one representing soldiers who died in the iraq and afghanistan wars. more than 4,000 have died but organizers say there aren't that many crosses because they've just run out of room. it was the tenth time they've held this memorial there. >> this memorial is very visible

and it's important that we share in solidarity, the grief and the sadness that these families continue to endure. >> although that memorial has been there for ten years, it is technically temporary, though the founder hopes to make it permanent with the city council's approval. well, traffic was closed last night along interstate 80 in vallejo because of a shooting. this was a scene just east of american canyon road where a man was shot in the neck while he was driving. the chp says he is expected to be okay. deputies closed all eastbound lanes for a time while they were investigating. no word yet on whether they identified a suspect. terrifying moments at this building in san jose. you may have driven past it. a car veered off the road and crashed into a credit union, killing one of the people inside. it happened just before noon yesterday right across the street from oak hill memorial park and the cemetery there.

officers say they believe two cars collided, sending one of them into the building. now, the bank was actually closed for business because it was a holiday, but unfortunately, a painting crew was there freshening things up. another victim was transported to the hospital. a grizzly triple murder in oakland and now someone is in custody. officers rushed to a home on dunbar drive after reports on gunshots there, and when they arrived, they found a man dead outside from apparent stab wounds. they also saw smoke coming out of a nearby garage. there, they found two women inside who were stabbed and shot. a woman was detained at the scene and arrested on suspicion of murder and once relatives are notified, the names of the three victims will be released. we know the fbi is assisting in that investigation. much more ahead on "today in the bay." homeowners in the sinking millennium tower are fighting back. the case they're making to stop paying their property taxes

7:11 now and we are looking live there at the skyline of downtown san jose, not toor too far from christmas in the park where that construction is understood way and according to that clock tower, my time check was right. the people who own the high end condos in the millennium tower are fighting back and that tower still sinking, still tilting and that's why the residents say they're not going to pay their property taxes. in a letter sent to the city's assessor, they outline why they say no resident of the troubled millennium tower should have to pay their property taxes. dodson blames city building inspector officials for not telling the owners that the tower sunk at least 16 inches and is tilting at least 2 inches

the park, we should tell you that that ornament is not to scale. i think you already knew that, though. that construction's going up this morning and it will be a beautiful day for crews who are working on this awesome san jose tradition. well, there is no stopping it now. an atlas 5 rocket blasted into space yesterday after a two-month delay. this video from the launch at van denburg air force base north of santa barbara. the mission, to deliver a satellite that can take high resolution photos of earth. the camera is so advanced it can spot the make of a car from nearly 400 miles above the earth. the satellite was supposed to make it into osht back in september but two wild fires at the launch base forced scientists to delay that mission. so, don't park illegally. you'll be busted. well, did you check your facebook page only to find out that the site thought you were dead? facebook mistakenly killed off some people yesterday, causing a lot of folks to panic. it is an unknown error caused

by -- causing some profile pages to show a remembrance message above the profile photos. facebook says that for a short time, this memorial message was accidentally posted to the accounts of living people. among those briefly considered dead was the cofounder himself, mark zuker berg. well, a warning for drivers this weekend, big changes in san francisco, major facelift for van ness avenue could affect how you navigate through the city, whether you live there or play there. outdoors, it's going to be hot, it's going to be nice so it would be a good day to do that. if you want to enjoy your saturday raking some leaves, maybe making some piles for the kids to jump in, i used too that but i am from california so i used to have to go to my relatives in the east coast for that. now, right now, temperatures are in the 50s so a nice cool start all along the bay area. early morning clouds adorning, really looking nice out there in the peninsula, a very beautiful sunrise. now, san francisco has been seeing that patchy fog in those overcast skies all morning long, but have no fear, we are making a break and we're expecting sunshine as that high pressure begins to dominate in the forecast yet again. now, today's overall highs, well, they're going to be very warm compared to what they should be around this time of year, but a sigh of relief, they are slightly cooler than those almost near 80s that we saw earlier in the week. half moon bay is staying in the 6 60s, san francisco for a high of about 68 and near san jose,

talking 63 degrees, that patchy morning fog should be clearing out but we are going to see an increase in that cloud cover. now, we were tracking a very weak cold front that brought small traces of rain to the north bay but nothing significant. and we aren't expecting any rain through the remainder of the weekend. we're actually expecting a pretty dry, mild weekend. taking a look around 11:00, we are expecting to keep that overcast look into the area of san jose, san francisco, out near oakland, fast forward to about evening hours, maybe 2:30, 4:00, those clouds start to dediminish and we begin to make a break in that cover, which is going to make for a nice sunday. and speaking of sunday, fast forwarding to sunday's forecast, of course, we've got that football sunday, we did see those traces of rain that did maybe their way in overnight, but as we head into sunday's forecast, we're expecting that high pressure to come on in and as that high pressure begins to dominate, we ewelcome loads of

a new exhibit at san francisco's war memorial building is honoring the people who served this country, but there's a twist. the veterans aren't just the subject of the art. they're also the people creating it. here's "today in the bay's" jill rosado. >> i've been making art for like 25, 30 years. >> reporter: there are two paths in rodney ewing's life that wind back to his father.

>> he got me into art just by bringing home comic books. >> reporter: he also paved ewing's road into the military. >> i spent six years in the army national guard. we got called up for desert storm. my father did 20 plus years in the united states air force. >> reporter: in an artistic salute to his father, ewing is arranging a series of military blankets. >> 20 representing the number of years he was in service. >> reporter: each one folded with military precision. >> my father passed away a little bit over a year ago, and i've folded it in the same way that the american flag that my mother has. >> reporter: ewing is one of the artists bearing their military experience for a san francisco arts commission veterans show in the war memorial building. >> about two years ago, i started looking at photographs i took while in the military. >> reporter: during her time as an army ammunition specialist in iraq, amber hoy armed herself with a camera. >> i guess i've always been interested in documenting.

francisco where a veteran fire captain was physically removed from his fire house yesterday. this is a developing story we first started reporting weeks ago. the growing allegations against john delvino, he commanded one of the fire department's elite rescue dive teams. he initially faced a ten-day suspension for unsafe treatment of a black firefighter. after that accusation, several other firefighters came forward claiming he routinely disparaged minorities. several women also accused him of inappropriate touching and when asked about the looming termination, the fire chief said she could not comment because it is a personnel matter. still ahead on "today in the bay," the warriors use an off day to send a message to their detractors across the nba. sports is next. anytimteam s-a pys meco in scer

always high drama and last night was no different. the two teams played in ohio to open the final round of the world cup qualifier. the match was tied at 1 when mexico's marquez for the game winner to give them a very important win. it is the first time mexico won a qualifying match in the u.s. since 1972. the warriors taking advantage of a couple days off, so what did they do? did they relax? no. they partied at steph curry's house. dramon green posted these pictures on instagram for the party that steph hosted for the team at his home. the self-proclaimed supervillens party. they're poking fun at the backlash they've received after signing kevin durant. as you know, teams from around the league criticized the choice of creating a so-called super team. it looks like the dubs have

♪ we are farmers. bum-pa-dum, bum-bum-bum-bum ♪ maineasons landldan well, the rental market is a hot topic all around the bay area but in san francisco, there are 16 main reasons that a landlord can legally evict someone ranging from not paying your rent to having too many roommates but one specific reason is now being used at a record rate and it's all about family. these type of evictions have spiked nearly 200% in recent years. investigative reporter with a six-month investigation. >> even if you haven't been evicted, you might be living in a home where someone was kicked

out illegally and that means you can lock in that person's old rent price. even if it's thousands of dollars less than what you currently pay. our investigative unit spent six months looking into evictions all across san francisco. and we found some landlords seemed to be abusing the system. and making a lot more money in the process. >> all righty. you can have this. do you want to eat this first. >> reporter: she and her daughter have lived in this oakland apartment for two years but they still don't consider it home. this is where they say they should be living, a san francisco apartment that was their home for nearly a decade until they were forced to leave. >> i was trying to do my best to stay there with ten years of my kids in school and my whole communicate there. >> your whole life was there. >> yeah, it's still there. >> reporter: in san francisco, landlords can legally kick out their tenants if they or in some cases their relatives want to move in. it's called an owner move-in

eviction and when she got her eviction notice, she and her three kids had to leave their home that had been under rent control for ten years. >> you couldn't find a police station that you could afford that could fit all of you. >> it would have been impossible. >> reporter: her two oldest children moved in with their dad and she moved to oakland with her youngest daughter. >> it's like having your kids taken away from you. it's hard. >> reporter: san francisco is home to 413 of those evictions last year. the most seen this decade. to find out what's behind the speak, we obtained city records for an entire year's worth of evictions. the hundreds of pages list every landlord or family member that was supposed to move into a home as part of an eviction in 2014. by law, they had to intend to live there for at least three years before renting to someone new. but our investigation uncovered what appears to be widespread abuse. what we found, you know, it's

pretty astonishing. >> that's my producer, michael. we, along with other members of our investigative unit traveled all throughout the city over the past six months, going door to door to nearly 300 of those homes to find out who's actually living there. we interviewed over 100 people about their living siptuation, and in 24 cases, which represent nearly 1 in 4 of all the evictions we looked into, the person who should be living in the home is not. an apparent violation of the city's own laws. >> does anyone actually check if the people that should have moved in are the ones actually living there? >> no, we don't check. >> reporter: robert collins is the executive director of the san francisco rent board t agency in charge of investigating wrongful evictions. the office doesn't require any proof of residency after an eviction but does investigate cases when someone files a complaint. >> so the people who were evicted basically have to take it upon themselves to be their own sort of private investigator? >> at this point, yes.

>> reporter: collins says the best option for people is to take their landlords to court. if you've been wrongly evicted, san francisco law allows you to collect hefty damages that can total millions of dollars. >> we are talking about people's houses. people's homes, if you would. and we're facing a crisis, so you know, there's really no way to minimize how important that is. >> it's tragic and very unfortunate. >> we showed our findings to san francisco supervisor jane camp. >> reporter: where has the city been? why doesn't there appear to be oversight? >> like many laws on the books, we are a complaint driven enforcement system. but i think it would help if we started doing these random audits and prosecuting owners that we're finding that are flagrantly evading the law. >> reporter: the rent board submits a random sampling of owner move-in evictions to the district attorney's office each month to investigate, but we discovered not a single person has been prosecuted in nearly the past ten years.

the d.a.'s office tells us it's difficult to prove that landlords actually intended to commit fraud when they evicted their tenants, which brings us back to angelique. she and her family were evicted after the owner of the building said his mother was moving in. >> i think he said she was sick but at one point she was going to help out with the family. >> reporter: the eviction filed with the city shows the landlord's mom is supposed to be living there at least through next year. so we checked out the building for ourselves. and we didn't find the landlord's mother. instead, brand-new tenants are renting, and by the looks of this online ad,the apartment has been completely renovated. the listed price? $5,000 a month. that's nearly three times the price of what rachelle was paying. >> your whole life changed because they said you have to move out because a family member's moving in, but it turns out that family member isn't living there. >> not sure what to say to that. i mean, surprise.

>> reporter: the landlord declined to speak with us. and the new tenants didn't want to talk either but what they don't realize is if their landlord can't defend that eviction, they're actually entitled to rachelle's old rent. countless otherwise across san francisco might otherwise be eligible and not even know it. >> you might end up having much better rent than you thought you would have. >> reporter: extend that to an entire year of rent and we're talking about saving oz of $30,000 or $35,000 in some ca s cases. >> reporter: sheksz landlords shouldn't be allowed to kick anyone out until they first prove that they or their family members are actually moving. >> if that's the whole reason they're able to have families split apart, then definitely, you know, they need to show that's what they're doing. >> reporter: on our website, we've mapped every single owner move-in eviction in san francisco for the past three years. and it's easy to find your
