looking at our live camera from 101. yesterday we couldn't see this shot either. there were low clouds, fog as well. >> what a difference a day makes. a san jose teacher is on paid administrative leave after supposedly telling students that they would be deported because donald trump was elected president. that teacher works at oak grove high school. >> that's where we find "today in the bay's" kris sanchez to explain what students are saying this morning. kris? >> reporter: good morning, laura and sam. we'll start by saying we did reach out to that teacher. we do know who that person is. we're not identifying that person at this point. wanted to get their side of the story, but they did not respond back. here is how a student describes what happened last wednesday, the day after donald trump's election. it was an on campus rally at oak grove high school the day after the election. the student who does not want to be identified told us she and her friends chose to sit out the

national anthem they say in protest of trump's rhetoric and his position on immigration. that student then says the teacher asked them to stand and when they didn't, she got frustrated and said this. >> good luck with being deported now that donald trump is president. you guys have it better here than you will over there. i was shocked and angry because i never thought i'd hear this coming from a teacher. >> reporter: we did reach out to the east side union high school district and they will only confirm that there is a teacher on paid administrative leave pending the outcome of an investigation. no charges have been filed, likely because this would not be considered a crime. in san jose, kris sanchez, "today in the bay." 4:33. also happening today, it's not a question of the but when. san jose city council will debate a timeline for raising the city's minimum wage. it's part of a regional south

bay plan to raise wages $15 by 2019. 13 cities in santa clara county endorsed the plan back in june. it would outpace the minimum wage job in the same amount of years. san jose is the largest of those cities. it would impact about 250,000 workers. >> catch them while they're fresh. the commercial dungeness crab season is officially open for part of our coastline. the crab season opened south of marin county. it was supposed to open to the sonoma-me sonoma-men do seen know line as well. last year crab season was delayed by some four months after crabs tested positive for the same toxin. the recreational crab season has been open for about two weeks at this point. a pivotal decision made over marijuana laws in one east bay city after a four-hour-long debate. the oakland city council did

approve the city administrator to write new laws. the permit program would set aside half of the city's marijuana permits for communities hit hard by the so-called war on pot. mostly east oakland residents and ex-convicts. last night city council chambers were packed with people expressing concern about speeding up this process. >> to me this is the largest economic opportunity i've seen come through oakland in the 30-plus years i've lived here. >> now that this is going to be a source of growing revenue, how do we make sure the revenue is used in a way that includes benefits to the communities hardest hit. >> all this in the context of the passage of prop 64 for recreational marijuana use. many cities have permit systems in place which makes it attractive for current dispensary operators to move in. a $10,000 reward is being offered for information on a shooting targeting two san jose

police officers. the shooting happened about 7:30 sunday night. two officers were on patrol when they confronted a group of people who ran away. one person in the group took out a handgun and fired at the officers as he ran. the officers were not hit and they did not return fire. police say a confrontation over a pot grow is what lead to an early morning shootout in fremont. police sent out photos of the grow right here and one i78 madge of the car which shattered windows. investigators say about 1:30 a.m. yesterday two or three burglars went into the home in the irving ton neighborhood and at least eight shots were fired when they encountered the growers. police say one man was hit in the shoulder. even though that grow is illegal, no arrests have been made. there were already questions about president elect donald trump's transition team and also predictions about who may fill key staff positions. there have been a lot of criticism over trump's choice of steve bannon as chief strategist.

through all that fog yesterday, you may have caught a glimpse of the extra super moon overnight. there it is. you can see the super moon over san francisco bay and the bay bridge. super moons happen on average once a year when the moon travels closer to earth than usual. they're slighter brighter than normal. nasa is calling this an extra super moon. that sounds scientific. extra, extra special. let me tell you why. it's because it's about 30% brighter than the typical super moon. this is the closest the moon has been to our planet since 1948. we spoke with some folks in san francisco who were out there to just take in this special occasion. >> it's sort of my hobby to be out there to catch extraordinary events like this that are so rare. >> i'm excited. it's glowing quite bright. never seen it glow like that. >> that's gorgeous. the next extra super moon is not going to be around until 2034.

there was a body found floating off a south san francisco marina has that police searching for answers. investigators say they found the body of a man yesterday afternoon, but they believe he floated in from somewhere else. police are not releasing his name. they are telling us he doesn't own a boat at the marina and there were no signs of foul play. this was in oyster point, close to 101 just north of sfo. >> it's now been two weeks since a san francisco attorney was found shot to death in front of his el cerrito home. no a large reward is being offered. 62-year-old james gilliland junior was killed last month. investigators haven't identified any suspects. gilliland worked with clients like apple, oracle and sony. there's now a $50,000 reward for information. it is officially tick season. health officials in san mateo county now warning people that ticks carry lyme disease among

results this morning. amazon is ditching its blue and gold christmas wrapping paper in the u.s., mexico and canada. the commerce giant says its guiding northstar is minimizing packaging and says wrapping paper has no value. it will be replaced by velvet gift bags in five sizes and three colors. quiet cars running on batteries great for the environment, right? yes. but not so great for the health of many pedestrians. they're too quiet and can't be heard coming, people have been getting hit or even worse run over. the department of transportation has finalized long awaited new rules requiring electric cars and hybrids to emit signs to warn people on sidewalks or bicycles nearby. they're hoping to put a dent in the more than 2,400 annual injuries. vehicle makers have three years to equip the cars. >> landon, thank you very much. 4:52.
