right now at 4:30. intense scenes as flames devour a duplex in a san jose neighborhood. we're live where everyone inside this burning home made it out safely. a triple homicide twist. the new information we're learning about the woman accused of murdering three people as she prepares to face a judge for the first time. messages of hate. the reason a south bay man says he was the target of racist language in the wake of the presidential election. rob, do you feel like you made it through? this is your last day on the morning show for a long time. >> yes. kari hall coming back. >> look how chipper he is. >> great to welcome her back. we've got weather changes coming up this morning. you might notice as you step outside in the north bay, about 15 degrees cooler than yesterday. not much in the way of fog. 43 degrees in santa rosa, 45 in napa. as we head towards the afternoon, highs only in the low 60s around the north bay. mid 60s san jose. there's still one more chance we can see an isolated shower showing up later this morning. we'll trang that in a few minutes. let's check in on the morning commute with mike. >> pretty clear roadway. visibility is good for the drivers. along the water's edge here on the bay, we have an issue getting over the water. it's eastbound dakota road. there's cars off in the bushes in the shoulder. no word on the there's anybody

there or if they bailed out. we'll wait to see if chp can give us an update. no slowing shows up for the sensors or the rails either including the east bay with ac transit and b.a.r.t. back to you. thank you very much. at 4:32. new this morning, flames rip through a san jose duplex overnight leaving three people without a place to live. it happened on cypress avenue not far from stevens creek boulevard. >> let's get the latest. kris sanchez joining us live from the scene there. what is going on now? good morning. >> reporter: it's heart heartbreaking when people lose their homes. when you know they were likely sleeping at the time, it makes it more difficult. this is all that's left of this duplex on cypress way. the good news is all three people that lived here made it out safely along with one of their pets. you can see from our camera that there were several cars damaged, a classic corvette in the garage. the garage door was ripped off

by firefighters as they were trying to contain the fire. this is what it looks like when the fire was first reported around 12:40. the san jose police department says not only was the duplex on fire, but threatening the other duplex. and a structure in the back was fully engulfed and threatening another home nearby. the three people who lived here did get out with one pet. >> thankfully, the residents got out on their own. >> reporter: there is another pet that was inside the home at the time of the fire. the fire department can't say whether it is still in there and whether it got out and is perhaps scared and hiding. the fire department always reminds us to check our smoke detectors around this time of year when we fall back, do the time change. if you didn't have a chance to do that, you might want to do it now. the fire captain says that could have been key in helping these

folks get out with their lives. kris sanchez for "today in the bay." >> wishing the best for that family. 4:33. new details in a grisly tripal homicide. authorities have identified the woman facing charges as a former teacher who made national headlines when she lost her job following gender reassignment surgery. authorities in oakland identified the suspect in last friday's killing of 61-year-old dana rivers. police say she stabbed and shot three people at a home. they say the garage was also set on fire. rivers was once a sacramento teacher. she's scheduled to be arraigned this morning. our bob redell will be here and will joan us with a live report ahead at 5:00. hostile messages found written on this car. you see it on the wind shield right there. police trying to figure out who wrote the graffiti in campbell yesterday. it includes messages such as go back to mexico and i love trump.

javier morales of campbell says he feels targeted. >> no other car was written on besides mine. i kind of took it personally. donald trump becomes president-elect. >> this is not the only election related graffiti we've seen in the south bay. >> i've been followed several times. people whisper behind my back and stare at me and laugh. >> wendy is a student at san jose city college. she says she's been targeted on campus because she's a trump supporter. now she says she's carrying pepper spray. the faculty is calling for students to treat one another with respect. in the meantime, president-elect donald trump is accused of breaking presidential protocol, ditching the presidential press pool and went out for dinner

with his family. >> they gave him a standing ovation at this favorite manhattan restaurant. it didn't go over well with reporters. there's a strict understanding of transparency. the press was originally told there would be no movement by mr. trump for the remainder of the night. and then his motorcade went to the famed 21 club, a high-end steakhouse. >> one of the issues he's been talking about, policies on immigration. students and faculty are weighing in on the subject of president-elect trump. urging st. mary's college to become a sajt air campus. this was signed by dozens of students, staff and faculty members asking the administration to investigate what it would take to make the campus a sanctuary for its community members who face imminent deportation. some students are in favor of the letter. some are against it.

mostly clear skies in palo alto. highs in the low 60s and a slight chance of showers approaching the coast later this morning. a look at the forecast coming up. we're looking at your travel times across the bridges. no problems from the east bay into san francisco, a nice smooth flow of traffic along the east bay. the north bay looking over here, 12 minutes from 580 to 880 from

richmond-san rafael bridge down to the golden gate bridge. a clear drive. 4:40 right now. a pay raise in the south bay. get ready for $15. the san jose city council approved a plan that will raise the minimum wage in three phases. the current page of $10.30 will be raised to $12 next year. in 2018 it will raise to $13.50. in 2019 it will setting at that $15 an hour raise. san jose becomes the sixth city in santa clara county to pass the minimum wage ordinance. leaders have stepped in to stop a recent surge in no-cause evictions. the voters in mountain view approved a new rent control measure that requires den nant evictions to be justified. the problem is that doesn't take effect until the end of december. since the measure's approval, evictions and eviction press have been reported. mountain view city council members passed and enacted an

it started in the 50s. it doesn't climb that much today, rob. >> highs in the low 60s. average highs should be mid 60s. a stretch of warm temperatures to start off the month of november. we have cooler air moving in, right now pretty clear skies, a live view over san jose. palo alto fog free. we can see pretty much the entire city, even out to the golden gate bridge this morning. the cooler, drier air means less patchy fog out there this morning. look at the temperatures in the north bay. 43 in santa rosa, 45 in napa. in the north bay we're seeing temperatures almost ten degrees cooler than yesterday. taking the moisture out of the hair helping to trap some of the heat of the day.

cooler air coming down the coast. there's one more chance we can see a few scattered showers today, courtesy of the system on the coast. this moisture will work its way down by 10:30 this morning. about 2:00 in the afternoon, futurecast, may see a scattered shower or two around the peninsula hilltops and maybe near the south bay and in the north bay, too, right around lunchtime. mid afternoon drier air sweeps in, showers shut down and we will see a chilly night ahead heading into tomorrow morning. highs today mid 60s in the south bay. highs in the low to mid 60s and a bit of that canadian air conditioning. it will feel chilly outside, low 60s around the peninsula into san francisco. a similar spread of temperatures across the north bay for today. things will be cooling off the next couple days. any chances for showers will be gone for thursday and friday. the weekend, a different story. a lot of rain for the north bay. a lot less in the south bay. san jose could miss out.

but you'll see those chilly morning temperatures. 30s and fridays, upper 30s in the north bay and tri-valley communities. >> starting to feel like fog. we're looking over here and feeling no real slowdowns except for the issue in the fremont, newark area. getting off the dumbarton bridge, two reports of basically the same crash. i know there's one eastbound 84 in the bushes. tow truck pulling that car out of the bushes. another similar incident on the other side of the freeway. i think someone was mistaken at the location. i'll leave them both there. no slowing on or off the dumbarton bridge. in the tri-valley, a tad bit out of the altamont. not unusual as folks merge with 205. at speed by the time you hit greenville. the bay bridge, a clear, easy drive from oakland. >> thanks very much, mark. wells fargo turning to robots to provide investment help to customers. >> taking some of the emotion out of o investing. for that and the rest of the news before the bell, we turn to landon dowdy who joins us live

from cnbc world headquarters. >> futures are lower this morning. stocks rose again tuesday with the dow closing at another all-time high, continuing its post election updraft. oil prices rising more than 6% snapping three days of losses look for data on housing, manufacturing and inflation, also earnings to lowe's and target. the dow up and the nasdaq up 57 to 5275. you may soon get investment advice from robots. wells fargo plans to start using artificial intelligence robo advisers to provide customers with investment help. it will launch a pilot program in the first half of next year. ubs, bank of america and morgan stanley are also developing similar services. amazon is rolling out non-stop black friday deals for the next 35 days. among the bargains, a 32-inch

robot technology, allowing him to use an app to interact with his teachers and classmates. >> you can hear everything. i have a microphone. full picture of the class, it feels like i'm right in the classroom. >> the robot runs about $3500. the technology is still in the testing stages. some people are our newsroom are wondering if it will allow them to telecommute, work in their pajamas. >> sometimes people do. something that makes you think only in silicon valley. this is the first driverless shutting on a college campus. it's an all electric car, can drive about three students at a time. a silicon valley startup called ro leases it to the university. so far it's a big hit for students. >> i've seen them around campus as i've been walking to class lately. it weirded me out at first to see the driverless car.

it is 4:55 right now on your wednesday morning. good morning san francisco as we take a look right down the embarcadero this morning, trolleys still going, maybe a couple people dotting the waterfront there. we have a beautiful day in store. >> last call could be coming a little earlier for a long-time bar in walnut creek. authorities say crogan's bar has been sucking up resources with police responding to more than 700 calls in the last four years, more than any other bar in the city. earlier this year a patron was shot and killed. interviews with those involved say people were coming to walnut creek because they could get away with bringing guns.

>> the other places were frisking and checking with metal detectors and the walnut creek establishments did not do that. >> just yet the committee held a special hearing. the city said it needs more time to make a final deposition. that is expected early next month. for now crogan's is allowed to stay open until 2:00 a.m. gaming the sis 12e78. cheaters in workers' comp cause a multibillion dollar drain on california's economy. law enforcement is stepping up its attack right now on insurance fraud. our investigative unit crunched the numbers and found from 2011 to 2015, district attorneys across the state convicted 3400 people of workers' comp fraud. inspectors pegged one doctor as a scammer. the doctor says law enforcement has it all wrong. the cases against him were dismissed.
