low 60s, long sleeves needed, but not so much the sunglasses as the clouds roll in. getting ready for rain. i'll detail that, what to expect as the rain continues to pour across the bay area tomorrow into sunday. that's coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you very much, kari. to stay ahead of the rain, get our free nbc bay area app. it is 6:01 this friday morning. breaking news out of san mateo. firefighters at the scene of a three-alarm fire burning on oak street near el camino real and highway 92. we have a crew headed to the scene right now to see what's going on. we're also following breaking news in paris. a terror plot foiled there. prosecutors announced within the past hour, five people have been arrested in connection with a terror attack that was planned for december 1st. authorities say the group of four were working with an isis

coordinator in either syria or iraq, and there was a fifth man working with the same coordinator but on his own. reuters reports some of the potential targets included disney land paris, the champs-elysees and france's counterintelligence services hub. the five suspects expected to appear in french court today. a developing story this morning, the search continues for two fugitives who escaped from the santa clara county jail. these are their photos. rogelio chavez and lanon desean campbell. >> nbc bay area was the first to break the news of that jailbreak. we came on early yesterday for you to update you on what was going on. >> and covering it for us yesterday on the scene, kris sanchez was the first reporter out there. she joins us with more information on the search efforts that are going on right now. kris? >> reporter: good morning, laura and scott. we are way closer to the main jail than we were yesterday. yesterday the perimeter extended all the way around the jail. we were kept at bay as well. now we know those two escaped

inmates managed to make it out, so there were more than 40 officers searching for them on foot with dogs, with the helicopter overhead, the light streaming down, and they did that until about 9:30 yesterday morning. that's when they lifted the perimeter because deputies discovered surveillance video put the two outside this area. investigators say that now the search area is all of santa clara county. they tied clothing and sheets and repelled down to the ground. two other inmates who were with them, who made the escape at the same time, they were caught as the deputy was on routine patrol outside the jail. now more than 24 hours after rogelio chavez of san jose and laron campbell of palo alto escaped, they are still on the run. >> the fact that these bars were cut the way they were, it wasn't

something they thought of in a minute. it probably took previous planning. >> reporter: nbc bay area was in the same courtroom a year ago yesterday when rogelio chavez appeared before a judge on charges that we or not clear at this point because the courthouse is closed. we can tell you he's 33 years owed. you by now have likely seen the tattoo above and below his left eye. he was booked in august. the other suspect, laron campbell was booked 21 months ago, so they had plenty of time to sit in that cell together and plan their escape. if you come into contact with them, call 911. kris sanchez, "today in the bay." certainly has been a tense thanksgiving holiday for people who live in the neighborhood. officers and deputies patrolling the streets near that jailbreak, asking everybody to keep an eye

in 1969. heart failure is believed to be the cause of her death. a live look at henderson's star on the hollywood walk of fame. it's early but no doubt people will bring flowers and candles as a tribute. henderson was also a contributor to the "today" show decades ago. she leaves behind four children and five grandchildren and, of course, the brady six. >> patricia arquette tweeted, florence henderson, warm, talented and kind passed away today. larry king said rest in peace florence henderson, a dear lady with a great sense of humor and a terrific laugh. america's mom has died. a missing mother was found bound by alive on a northern california road. this morning the mystery deepening as the search continues for the two women who abducted her. sheri papini went missing november 2nd after a jog in the town of mountain gate in shasta county. she was released yesterday

morning. despite being tied up, she was able to flag down a driver along interstate 5. the 34-year-old mother of two is in stable condition at a hospital recovering from minor injuries. investigators are looking for two armed hispanic women driving a dark colored sedan. $50,000 reward for information. as most people were sitting down for thanksgiving dinner, our cameras were rolling as more than 300 shoppers pushed their way into union square macy's in san francisco. that's one of the stores that got black friday started early. >> the doors opened and we were the first people inside. >> the national retail federation says 137 million americans will shop this weekend. staels are expected to jump 3.5% from last year. don't forget tomorrow is small business saturday. >> that's right. a taco truck robbed in broad daylight wednesday afternoon in

benicia. authorities say three men wearing masks and hoodies sprayed the three working with pepper spray and took off in a blue-gray honda suv. >> it's unusual. the taco trucks in town are a staple of the business. they're a staple of the community. they're out there, but it's not a high-risk target. >> employees were treated at a local hospital for minor burns. 6:08. several recovery efforts going on. hurricane otto hit nicaragua with powerful winds and torrential wind, causing sadly several deaths. in the meantime in el salvador, an earthquake struck the pacific coast of that country. amateur video shows people evacuating after the magnitude 7.0 quake. a tsunami alert was issued.

so far no reports of any damage. we will have some rain moving in, at least it does hold off for the next several hours. if you're going out shopping early this morning for the first part of the day, it looks good, but it will be mostly cloudy. the rain starts to approach late tonight in the north bay and south bay is looking pretty wet. maybe plans if you're going shopping for a mall, somewhere indoors. we'll continue to see the rain off and on through out the day tomorrow, breezy winds. on sunday we'll slowly have some clearing and the storm moving out early on monday. we'll take a look at chilly temperatures over the next several days. coming up, getting your hands on some of the hottest toys in the stores this year. >> what some of the most sought-after gifts are wrapped in tradition.

good friday morning. if you're on your way to gilroy for shopping, only 36 degrees. it warms up quickly over the next several hours, by 9:00 at 53 degrees. mid 6 os later this afternoon. i'll have a look at your forecast, whether you're shopping, going to work or will be traveling. that's coming up in just a few minutes. a sad discovery in antioch, a 17-year-old boy was found shot near a high school. it happened on a trail a few blocks in deer valley high late wednesday night. neighbors reported the gunfire. officers arrived and found the teen badly injured.

he later died at the hospital. so far, no names and no arrests. a thanksgiving robbery in south san francisco has police looking for a man with a gun. it happened early yesterday morning on railroad avenue. the victim was walking along when the suspect pulled out a gun and took the victim's wallet and cell phone. the victim was not hurt. walnut creek police need your help this morning. it's surveillance video. you can see the car pulling into an apartment complex. the suspects, two men and a woman, calmly get out of the car, break into a van and steal several items. if you've seen them, any of them, if you can make them out, you're urged to call police. the black friday shopping frenzy under way. millions of americans heading to malls and businesses around the country trying to get some deals. >> "today in the bay's" bob redell live at the outlets in livermore this morning where shopping is already in full swing. those people mean business out there. >> reporter: take a look inside the burberry store.

cold mornings over the next several days. here is a live look at shea. it's clear this morning as we start out, the temperatures really dipping. we're getting ready for some clouds and a soggy weekend ahead. a lot of people make plans to head out to the shopping centers and the malls. make sure you have some rain gear. it's now 43 degrees in san jose. also in palo alto, in oakland, it is 47 and 37 in livermore. the san francisco premium outlet, it is cold. now in san francisco we'll see those temperatures going from the upper 40s to low 50s. here is the next storm system. you can see the swin of the low pressure system moving closer, and it brought a lot of rain to the pacific northwest yesterday. we're already seeing the rain moving to the north of us. it will be spreading to the south by late tonight and early

tomorrow. here is the timeline. 4:00 in the morning, heavy downpours in santa rosa toward point reyes and becoming more widespread. not as easy for the east bay, the south bay and the peninsula. spotty showers tomorrow, off and on, even into early sunday. we start sunday morning with some rain. we should get some clearing by the afternoon if you're going over toward the sierra, driving through the see era, there's going to be spots with heavy amounts of snow, most of it coming down between late saturday into sunday. the weekend forecast is looking good. some 50s, but it will be cool to start each morning in the upper 40s sunday morning. i'll have another look at the forecast coming up a little bit later. >> we'll look forward to it. thanks so much, kari. >> here is a holiday gift, how much money bay area responds has saved viewers for the whole month of november.

"nbc bay area responds" just prapd up another banner month. >> consumer investigator chris chmura says we're winning battles and returning thousands to viewers just like you. this month our team settled 29 complaints and won refunds worth a total of $41,133 for people around the bay area. here are some of the cases we closed. we helped edward in san jose cut through red tape with an airline. he received $750 for damage to a piece of baggage he was forced to check. browning in san jose had a browning in san jose had a festering dispute with his cable company for double billing during installation. we helped him fix it and get about $90 back. also in the south bay, danny asked us to intervene when his brand new windows that a professional installed began leaking. he's been refunded $5,174. our most colorful case of the month took us to richmond. sherry called us after a contractor painted her mom's house pink and tried to stick a

we just arrived on the scene. i want to show you this home right behind me on oak street near borel middle school. i spoke with san mateo fire. we can confirm that this is a fatal -- there was one woman inside that home. she's an elderly person, in her 60s. the cause of that fire is still under investigation. but there are a number of fire departments here. we have san mateo fire, belmont fire and redwood city fire on the scene. as i mentioned, this is a fatal. there was one woman inside of that home. she was in her 60s. that's what we're being told. this is a developing story. you see the smoke coming out of that roof, all the damage to the roof of that home as a result of this fire. but we're going to hear from the pio here with san mateo fire to give us more information. this is very early on in the investigation. so we still do not know the cause at this time. live in san mateo, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> such a tragedy. a charming home, too. so sad for the loss.

update you about what was going on. >> kris sanchez is the first reporter on the scene. she joins us live this morning. >> you have an interesting update on the search efforts, kris. >> reporter: it was around this time yesterday that i was telling you detectives were looking through surveillance video from area cameras including the vta line a block and a halfway way. now we know some surveillance video put those suspects outside the perimeter that was the initial part of the search. this was the scene yesterday as more than 40 deputies searched by foot, searched with canines, searched with the helicopter with flood lights by air. that was going on until 9:30 yesterday morning. that's when the surveillance video put those inmates outside the video. investigators won't tell us where. they say it is all of santa clara county, that part of the man hunt. the duo managed to cut through the bars. they didn't leave their tool behind. they repelled down on clothing and bed sheets tied together.

two other inmates were with them at the time. a deputy on routine patrol saw shadows and noticed that clothes line and rope they made and was able to apprehend those two right away. still more than 24 hours after r rogelio chavez and lanon desean campbell escaped, they're still on the run. each facing felony charges, making them a danger to the public. >> based on their history, yeah, they are dangerous. again, we're taking every precaution. >> reporter: nbc bay area was in the same courtroom as rogelio chavez as he faced a judge back in november of last year. it was actually a year to the day yesterday that he was before that judge. he has that distinctive tattoo over and under his eye. he, along with lanon desean campbell had been in jail for quite some time. laron campbell was here behind bars for 21 months.

identified as the suspect. authorities say a man was trying to ease a woman's pain and suffering when he shot. both the man and woman regained consciousness at the hospital. both are expected to survive. the holidays can bring out the worst in drivers. chp is super busy. officers made 179 dui arrests in the first six hours of the maximum enforcement period. it ends sunday at midnight. what it means is all available officers are on patrol to keep highways safe this weekend. free passes to california state parks for black friday are nearly gone. part of green friday's movement. it aims to get people outdoors instead of shopping. right now the only free passes still available in the bay area are for the benicia state park. you can still visit any park you want. you just have to pay the normal day use fee for parking your car.

>> that would be a great tradition to get started. if you're heading out now in palo alto, likes like 101 is all clear. here is ikea right there. if you're going to work or maybe going shopping, it doesn't look like we have many problems on the roadways. the only problem is it's cold. we have chilly temperatures, and we'll start to see clouds moving in by this afternoon. we're already starting to see the high clouds and thin clouds that will filter the sunshine moving in now. the storm system that will bring us much-needed rain moving in late tonight and throughout the day tomorrow, looks pretty soggy. a look at today's forecast. it will be cool once again to start, but highs reaching 61 degrees in the peninsula. in the south bay, 62 degrees with ploois and once again a cold start in the tri-valley. we have 30s there now. in the north bay, expect a high of 59, also upper 50s for san francisco and the east bay as the clouds move in once again some rain late tonight.

want to show you this piece of video. this is from last night, to give you a sense of the crowds out here in san francisco. i shot this around 7:30 driving eastbound on 580. you see the brake lights at the right side of your screen. that's the line of cars waiting to get off the fallon exit. that's at 7:30 last night. they have 3,600 parking spots on property. those spots were definitely taken overnight and now. so much parking, we've seen people walking over the overpass, over 580 on the overpass to go park elsewhere and they have a shuttle service to transport people from the college a couple miles away. i'm trying to give you a sense of how many people coming out here. black friday deals, 50, 60, in some cases 70% off in some cases. >> how sad for that woman. she waits an hour in line and doesn't find anything.

shopping. we will have great shopping weather today. a live look outside over san jose. a lot of sunshine to start out. once again, the clouds will start to move in. we're already starting to see that farther to the north and chilly temperatures once again. here is our next weather system. it has been producing very heavy rain for parts of the pacific northwest. yesterday in seattle and portland, they racked up quite a bit of rain, several inches there. now we're starting to see that moving in closer to the bay area. we'll start to once again start to see the rain moving in here late tonight. we have still a little time before it starts raining, and it's 47 degrees in oakland. 44 in napa. and 41 to start in santa rosa. highs today reaching the upper 50s to low 60s. here is a look at the timeline. we start to see the rain moving into santa rosa and point reyes by 4:00 in the morning. it's still cloudy elsewhere as the rain moves in and becomes a little bit more steady,

widespread, through at least noon tomorrow. then it breaks up. we'll have scattered showers through the evening, meaning you may have a chance to get out during one of the breaks, but then on sunday morning we also have a line of some showers that may be heavy moving through during the morning before this all clears out. during the next 36 to 48 hours, we'll have the potential of getting about half an inch of rain. much-needed rain and snow in the area. this is showing a lot more snow than the previous run. the potential of at least a foot, maybe a foot and a half of snow for some of the higher elevations. looking at this weekend's forecast, we will have rain once again for tomorrow, for the bay and inland areas, scattered rain, cool temperatures to start. but only reaching into the mid to upper 50s. so expect it to be a cold rain at that. i'll have another look at the forecast coming up in a few minutes. >> thank you, kari. we have breaking news on the

welcome back on this friday morning. it's 6:56 right now. before you head out the door, we have been covering breaking news this morning from the peninsula in san mateo. one of our top stories of the morning, a house fire has turned deadly. reporter pete suratos just got to the scene within the last half hour or so and has the report. you were talking to investigators out there? >> reporter: yes. good morning, laura. we just spoke with foster city fire, this fire took place on the 1500 block of oak streak. take a look at that. firefighters still working on the smoke smoldering out of the roof. we'll queue up the flame video from this fire that took place around 5:00 a.m. when fire officials arrived, they say they found a

60-year-old woman inside deceased. we're learning another person who lived in the home who wasn't there when authorities showed up. san mateo fire is working with san mateo pd to find that individual. we have numerous fire departments on the team including san mateo fire, belmont and redwood city fire department to name a few. i'll show you guys what we're looking at as firefighters look out for those hot spots as we put out the fire that's mostly contained and the cause of the fire is under investigation. live in san mateo, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> very sad. thank you, pete. a developing story this morning. the search continuing for the two fugitives who escaped the santa clara county jail. here are their photos. lanon campbell on the left. rogelio chavez on the right. they escaped around 11:00 wednesday night. they're still on the run and have been booked on several felony charges, considered extremely dangerous.
