clara county sheriff's office to surround the days inn motel in gilroy. this happened overnight. they surrounded for a number of hours. around 4:15 they executed the search hoping to find chavez, one of the two inmates who escaped from the jail last week. they did not find him but did take into custody two women and one man. they are interviewing those people right now to see what relationship they may or may not have to chavez. they took a white suv away from the scene. santa clara county's sheriff's office tells us they have received numerous tips from independent sources over the past number of days saying there have been sightings of elio

chavez. saying he was possibly here as recently as yesterday. those are two inmates who are still on the loose. they with two other inmates cut through the second floor window of the main jail in downtown san jose last wednesday night around 11:00. they used a bed sheet to repel down the wall. two inmates were immediately recaptured. chavez and campbell still out there. >> the search is on for a shooter who opened fire inside a bay area bar injuring two people. look at the surveillance video. this is the man police are looking for. the shooting happened inside the bottom of the fifth bar yesterday morning. an argument broke out first. then the man pulled out a gun

and started firing. two men were hit but are expected to be okay. the gunman is still on the loose. >> jury trial is expected to begin for a dog groomer accused of animal cruelty. he was arrested after a dachshund named henry had difficulty bleeding and suddenly died. x-rays revealed he had a punctured lung and two broken ribs. he had been groomed in the pet smart store. he faces felony charges. kris sanchez joins us live with details on the glitch that gave some people a free ride. >> a spokesman confirmed this cyber attack. there has been no impact to

transit service or safety system. that is a map of a different story. those free rides were the silver lining. some toll booths had signs saying snmt out of service." this computer screen was blank. some people were fuzz willed as they were waved through without paying a fare. some ticket stations across san francisco reportedly said, you hacked all data encrypted. >> we were confused. we thought, oh, maybe it was broken at first then we were like, this is great. >> maybe for the holidays. >> we talked with a spokesman who confirms that message on the computer system was a cyber hack but muni staff is trying to get to the bottom of it. this happened friday. news of that possible hack reached washington where we reached a congressman on the congressional cyber security committee.

whether it is a lone wolf attacker or another nation seeking to disrupt. muni is running normally today. if that changes, we'll let you know here. >> it is 6:05. san mateo sheriff's deputy recovered after being injured during a drug smuggling bust. u.s. coast guard officials notified i.c.e. of three suspects trying to smuggle drugs into the park. the suspects were in a boat similar to the one you see in this file video. during the arrest, the deputy was injured. details are not revealed. all we know is the deputy is expected to be okay. a live look at havana, cuba, this morning where thousands are preparing to pay tribute to fallen dictator fidel castro.

them to this days inn. it was around 4:30 this morning they decided to go in to see if they could find chavez, one of the inmates that escaped from the main jail in san jose last wednesday night. they did take into custody two women and a man. the sergeant telling us they were going to interview these people to see what the relationship, if any link to chavez is. and to see if they know where chavez is located. a white suv was linked to the three people taken into custody. sheriff's office tells us over the past few days they received numerous independent tips from people saying they have seen chavez specifically down here in

gilroy. one of those tips placed him down here most recently as yesterday. chavez along with two other inmates cut through window on the second floor of the main jail before thanksgiving. they repelled down the wall with a bed sheet. two inmates were recaptured immediately. chavez and campbell still on the loose. >> thank you very much. it is 6:33. a developing story. this was a scare for movie goers after gun shots sent people watching movies there running for cover. a security guard shot someone

following a disturbance that began inside the theater. >> scared to death. she was behind a door, locked behind a door, but still. >> the victim shot suffered nonlife threatening injuries. the guard believed he was armed and threatened by that man. officers questioned the guard and closed down the theater for the night. happening today, a father accused of drowning his daughter inside a church is due back in court in just a couple of hours. pete joins us live outside the court. >> the 42-year-old will be back in court in just a few hours. it marks the second appearance in less than a week. here is video from last week.

you can see him sitting in that wheelchair sobbing. he's chained to that wheelchair. criminal proceedings were suspended after his own lawyers raised doubts about his mental state of mind. we'll hear a doctor's evaluation on his mental competency. he is accused of drowning his daughter inside st. john the baptist catholic church last week. he carried his unconscious daughter to the parking lot of the police station where police say he was naked, screaming for help. we did speak to friends who claimed he was on drugs when all this took place. >> the girl died at a local

hospital. he is now facing murder and felony child abuse charges. his wife is pregnant and they have three more children together. his court date today is set for 8:30 a.m. live in santa rosa. tragic story there. >> >> 6:36. follow-up to a story we first broke friday. support now pouring in for south bay islamic center that received a letter filled with threat. the letter arrived at the evergreen islamic center in san jose. it called worshippers children of satan and said trump will cleanse america of muslims signed by americans for a better way. over the weekend peemd arrived to find flowers and notes filled with well-wishes. two other mosques also received the threatening letter. thousands of cuban americans taking to the streets of little havana over the weekend celebrating the death of fidel castro. >> they say i'll be waiting all

detectives believe sherry papini was kidnapped from. she was out for a jog, last seen in this area. this is where her phone was found and ear buds were found in this area it's been four days since she returned home. the sign now says "found, thank you, welcome home." investigators are searching for the two women they believe may have kidnapped her. we don't have a good description who they are. s(women with a gun driving a da suv. the sheriff is still confident this is a kidnapping. he has no reason to think otherwise. you're going to hear from him coming up in our report. thank you very much. 6:40. students in oakland return to school the first time since a fire last week destroyed park of the mosswood recreation center. firefighters were able to serve the historic mosswood house.
