the "deadly warehouse fire." today special investi the deeper dive continues into the deadly warehouse fire. today special investigators are joining the efforts in oakland trying to unravel what caused the worst fire in the city's history. the vigil for victims. last night hundreds came together on the peninsula to honor a young couple killed in the fire. how the pair was found moved many to tears. this morning we're tracking rain all over the bay area. heavier waves are coming in and out as we see ponding on the roads and plenty of raindrops on our golden gate bridge cam which is beneath there somewhere. we're getting rain. i'm laura garcia-cannon. how much and how long? >> sam and laura, we've had about an inch and a half in parts of the peninsula, but the south bay barely measuring anything with some of that rain starting to file, and we are taking a look at the radar as we continue to see more of those scattered showers moving on through. we will have more of this rain in the forecast as we go through the day. as of right now, getting a look at our storm ranger as it will be moving closer getting into the next hour or so. looking at the radar, there we go. we see the scattered showers. let's head over to mike and see how that may impact your drive. >> this data shows what will be on the roadway. this is the tassajara on-ramp reminding you about slick conditions and possible flooding in many parts of the bay. a crash also reported for west 580 around north livermore. we'll get updates once chp arrives. conditions at the bay bridge toll plaza, water on the lens

investigators continue the search for answers into what caused this tragedy. >> "today in the bay's" pete suratos live in oakland with what we're learning about the investigation and also the steps oakland is taking to make sure this does not happen again. good morning, pete. >> reporter: good morning, laura and sam. the city is going to put together a new task force that's going to look at building safety and deal with citizen complaints when it comes to similar warehouses. that was discussed here at the emergency operations center building. they're starting to lift the barriers up as the scene begins to clear out. of course, that's at the site where 32 victims passed away friday night. representatives from the national fire protection will help focus on safety and regulations when it comes to these types of warehouses around the city. in the wake of the deadly fire, there have been many questions about the city's handling of the build. mayor schaaf made it clear there

will be no scapegoating of city officials. >> we're developing ways to immediately clarify the responsibility of city employees to properly report any observations of dangerous living conditions or illegal events. >> oakland's interim director of building and planning talked about two complaints about the warehouse and the lot next door. the documents show inspections were done on november 17 and 18 but only able to confirm blight but unable to confirm that an illegal building was taking place inside the warehouse. building officials has had not been inside the warehouse in 30 years. this is still an ongoing investigation. atf will be handling the investigation and they're still on the ground as we speak. live in oakland, pete suratos for "today in the bay." >> pete, thank you very much. with the search for victims complete, the good-byes can officially begin. standing in the rain, hundreds

of mourners gathered in san bruno remembering 2-year-old alex vega and girlfriend of 20 years, michela gregory. the alameda county sheriff's department said firefighters found the high school sweethearts in the warehouse in each other's arms. gregory's father says he knew they would be found together. >> they were trying to make it out together or they were helping each other. i knew it. i just felt it. it gave me peace knowing. >> many wiping away tears last night. family and friends continuing to search for peace and to lean on each other in this time of grief. to learn more about those who died in the blaze, you can go to our website, nbcbayarea.com. sadly a mosaic there that gets larger by the day. we've posted all of their pictures and some information about their lives. new details on a house fire in san mateo that killed a

70-year-old woman. we're now learning that fire was intentionally set. we first brought you this story's breaking news on "today in the bay." the home is near burrell middle school. the fire started early in the morning. the newspaper delivery man reported it. homeowner sandra carone was found inside. investigators say they found evidence of arson. no suspects have been identified. the woman accused of killing a lesbian couple from oakland and their adopted son will be in court for a plea hearing. 61-year-old dana rivers has been charged with murder and arson. police say they responded to the victim's home in the highland neighborhood and found one of the victims suffering from stab wounds outside of the home. that's when officers that rivers walked out covered in blood. police say she also set the garage on fire. rivers made national headlines back in 1999 after transitions from a man to a woman and that ended up getting her fired from her job in a sacramento school.

a string of robberies across berkeley, police they they may be related. police say all the victims were approached by twro men and robbed at gunpoint. the first robbery was a week ago. that was near arch street. the second, a day later near walnut. the most recent on tuesday near spruce. police say these also could be related to several other robberies from last month. coming up, trying to keep track of all the wet weather. kari hall has her hands full. it's been coming in overnight. >> at times it's been heavy in some spots. a live look outside at san jose where the streets are wet and the moisture continues to stream in. more on that coming up in the microclimate forecast. a live limited view of the golden gate bridge. the twinkling because of the water droplets on the lens. i'll show you what's going on even farther north and east from here. the break in the case of the fatal shooting, police pursuing

a new lead. warehouse fire.. this is hanna ruax.. she'd just moved from finland to be this morning we're honoring the lives lost in the oakland fire. this is hanna rue action, she had just moved from finland to be with her fiancee, alex ghassan who also died in the fire. she was known for skills as a yoga instructor and a social justice activist.

good morning. the time is 4:40. heavy rain continues to stream across the bay area with the heaviest rain moving across the peninsula overnight. we'll continue to track the showers and what to expect as we go through today coming up in about five minutes. these travel times, you'll notice even with no traffic going on, we have a 15-minute drive from highway 4 to the bay bridge. lowering the speeds because conditions demand that across the east bay. across the spans, be careful, definitely traction is an issue. >> good advice out there. 4:41 breaking in a case of a shooting on highway 4. pittsburg police at an antioch home where officers arrested two of the four men suspected in the deadly shooting. the 25-year-old and 22-year-old suspects were taken into custody by a s.w.a.t. team. the other two men remain at large wanted for murder in the shooting that killed a san francisco woman.

it was one of at least two dozen highway shootings this year alone. campbell police are searching for three burglars caught on camera ransacking a house. the victim says shortly after leaving home one afternoon late last month, she received an alert on her phone that someone was inside of her home. you see them digging through their drawers right there. she watched remotely as the burglars snatched up all her belongings. she called police right away, officers didn't arrive in time to catch any of them. investigators are asking for tips in finding those men. coming up, could the ghostship fire have been prevented? what if another dealt trap exists. that's an accusation from an east bay woman who says there's another oakland warehouse that could go up like a tinderbox. the debate next.

have to be careful, slick roadways out there this morning. >> mike is tracking a development, a spinout he'll tell you about in one second. first, we have a microclimate weather alert. some places seeing buckets of rain. others not as much. >> that's the south bay where it took a while for the rain to get going. once it did, it was very light. here is a look at the golden gate bridge camera. you can barely see anything, but you can tell there's still more rain drops coming down, and it's making for a solg gi situation from the peninsula up to san francisco. right now it's only 49 degrees heading up to 58 today. a cool start along with that rain, we continue to see more

showers moving in. still light rain. at times pockets of heavy downpours, still coming down on the peninsula where from portola valley to san mateo where they had an in1.75 inches, in san francisco rainfall totals about .50 inch. it's still really coming down along 280 and also 101. it's now 50 degrees in san jose. it's 47 in oakland, 44 in concord. very chilly temperatures to go along with those downpours, and we will continue to see more of that rain moving in. we see the shades of green. that shows a moderate downpour, but it gets very intense when we start to see the yellows and the reds here on the hour-by-hour forecast map, and that is going through out the morning. by 10:30, we could still see pockets of heavy rain moving through and also some breezy winds. there will be some breaks at times, but it will be few and

far between at least for the start of the day, and then the rain becomes a lot more spotty for tonight and into the start of the day tomorrow. we'll still have rain lingering. looking at how much additional rainfall we could see between now and the weekend, up to about .25 inch in sunnyvale and maybe up to an inch in hayward between now and saturday. winds have been breezy, but not that strong. we'll pick up the most right along the coastline, could have gusts up to about 20 miles an hour. looking at the forecast for today, the highs will be topping out in the 50s and morning temperatures will be in the 40s for the inland areas more of the same. getting a little break at times this weekend. mike is talking about a spinout on the peninsula. >> that's what the chp report says on 101 at poplar. there may be debris in the area. it's going to be more areas than just what shows up on the green. that rain came through as kari

said, down the peninsula, having hit this area earlier. a crash around poplar and a spinout in the area. slick roads heading southbound towards 92. northbound looking at a new crash. a new incident that showed slowing there. no details from chp. i'll do hunting and see what's going on. that's definitely coming off the san mateo bridge. look at this. there's fog also possibly registering for the north bay. definitely some flooding reported at sir francis drake, one of the usual suspects off 101. in the east bay, telegraph off-ramp from highway 24, earlier flooding that may still be an issue at least for the slow lane. fender-benders around the bay bridge. soupy conditions all around the east bay. be careful and allow extra time, please. >> very good advice. thank you so much, mike. back to our coverage of the deadly oak lapd warehouse fire. not just sadness this morning, but a sharp tone of anger.

yesterday that frustration boiled over, a confrontation involving the owner of a well-known oakland restaurant and a nearby warehouse. dorothy kings owns a barbecue next to a warehouse called salt lick. she says a fire at that warehouse could be deadly. the people who live in the warehouse disagree. >> i know for a fact there's only one way in and one way out. >> there are two walkways where you can exit. there's also a fire escape which reporters might have noticed is at the front of the building. there's several massive windows on hinges that open up on to roofs next door and so on. >> king lost a friend in the ghost ship fire and has lived in a warehouse herself. she's urging the city to help local warehouses so artists can continue to live there, but live there safely. >> certainly a delicate balance. 4:49 right now. we're turning to business news. there are reports that apple is working to rent new movies earlier on itunes, like early
