balance. there will be a more hands-on approach with the team and one name who continues to be mentioned for potential openings with the 49ers is mike shanahan. they have spoken to him on a number of occasions. is it time to move on and should the yorks get more involved? >> absolutely. when you're the owner of the ball club and the team is not performing up to the standard of the san francisco 49ers and that's winning super bowls, guess what, it's time to make a change and i think that time is now. mike shanahan was in the running last year and i do believe baalke was probably the reason why he didn't get hired last year. >> yeah, because mike shanahan would want to be in charge of the roster of player personnel as well as a head coach. >> oh, yeah. >> do you think at this point in time -- and you know him.
9:01 pm
he won a super bowl with the 49ers with the offensive coordinator, with steve young. is he at a point in his career where he would want a front office job or does he want to coach? >> he wants to coach. and he's hungry. and i think when you're out of the game for a few years, like he has been, you know, he's had a lot of time to think. and he's wanted back in but hasn't been able to get back in. i believe he'll be very successful. >> that did not end well with the rg3 saga that went down. but devil's advocate here, he won a lot of games, two super bowls, one playoff game without john elway as a quarterback. >> that is true. and, hey, you can look at all of the great coaches that have coached in the national football

league and there's one thing in common. >> yep. >> they usually have a great quarterback. so -- >> hard to find. >> it's very hard to find. but that's one thing. he's very good at coaching quarterbacks and he's great with the offense. at the end of the day, he's a phenomenal football coach, great with personnel and knows how to run the front office. i do believe the 49ers need a guy like mike shanahan. >> and does chip kelly's fate lie with whoever comes in? if it's mike shanahan, chip kelly would be out, right? >> there's rumors that chip may go back to college. >> right. >> i've heard those rumors. but at the end of the day, maybe mike would come in and just be a general manager. i don't know if that's what he would really like. but i think he would take the job for sure. >> he comes from that coaching. >> he does. >> time for our play of the day

loss to kansas city. we felt like they had a chance to win that spot. it was not a good showing. do we feel differently? where are we in the picture? >> you know, i feel differently in one way and carr had a bad day. they lost. now, how does he come back and redeem himself? that's going to be the big question. if he comes back and plays lights out against the san diego chargers, then erase that game and just realize that guys are going to have a bad day every once in a while. >> now, what team in the afc scares you the most right now? >> the new england patriot, the steelers and the raiders. in that order. >> okay. >> and the reason why is i go with quarterbacks. when you get to the playoffs, so i go with tom brady, number one, ben roethlisberger, number two,
9:08 pm
and i'm going to go with derek carr number three. that's my order. of course, you have alex smith. i don't believe in alex smith come playoff time. i go with the top three quarterbacks and that's -- so that's going to be new england, the steelers and then the raiders. >> who win this is division afc west? >> i hope that the raiders can win. i really do. but i think kansas city. we'll just have to do it going through the wildcard. >> it's a tough one because they've got to go to san diego. the chargers are always going to be tough for them. you have to finish up at denver. >> i tell you what, the colts scare me. you know, with andrew luck at any given day what he's able to do, i worry about that one but denver, last game, it will be colts again. >> again. >> well, it's on to san diego. it will not be cold there.
