as you head to work or school this morning. here is a live look outside san francisco, just a few clouds rolling by. here is a look at the radar. still lightsierra. behind that it will be windy and temperatures not warming up much more. it's 49 in san jose and 47 in napa. we'll take a look at what's happening with the wind advisory. >> that's right. important distinction. this is not a national weather service advisory. this is from chp. anecdotally said they got blown around on bridges. you see them pictures here. the san mateo bridge and the richmond-san rafael bridge, the upper right corner, the golden gate bridge, that's a little unusual. it typically goes with the wind. so a note for folks there. we don't have major unusual proble

problems. we have a major delay reported for the b.a.r.t. system. b.a.r.t. classifies major as anything over 20 minutes. they've passed that threshold. equipment problems on the track, reported around the bayfair station. so far just reporting it for trains at the bayfair area. a live look out there as well. we talked about the wind advisory. we had a crash that was going westbound, that has cleared from the span. not a lot of slowing, just the little note as you travel across the bridges. 6:02 right now. new overnight in marin county, a scene in san anselmo, a big oak tree toppled onto a garage damaging three hmercedes benzes and broke a waterline as well. several residents were told to

get out of the area until pg&e could cut power and turn off gas. luckily no one was hurt. we'll bring you a live report in the next half hour. the cleanup will be extensive there, sam. >> absolutely. a lot of cars will be part of insurance claims. we're seeing similar overnight damage from all of these winds across the bay area. this is the scene right now in east palo alto where people are waking up to quite a mess because of the toppled trees. again, more cars damaged. "today in the bay's" laura malpert showing us the damage left behind and the cleanup that's got to continue today, laura. >> reporter: good morning, sam and laura. i'm sure a lot of people liked the storm last night, but probably not the people who live here. take a look here. there are so many tree branches you can barely see the cars buried beneath. if you look closely, you can see a march loon kia and tan alta ma.

you can see the rear view mirrors are snapped. it looks like it started around 10:30 when high winds ripped through the area. they got a call a tree had fallen on top of two cars on private property in the 1100 block of beach street. when they got here, this is what they found. no doubt there are scenes like this across the bay area from the powerful winds last night. firefighters used chainsaws and cleared the debris off the sidewalk so people could walk by. the good news is no one was hurt. the homeowners were not hurt. back out here live, i talked briefly with the homeowners. they're pretty shy and didn't want to talk on camera. you can see they're in the holiday spirit with the christmas lights there. we're hoping they've done all their holiday shopping and not planning on going to grandma's

house for christmas, driving over there any way. reporting from east palo alto, laura malpert, "today in the bay." >> 6:04. breaking overnight. frightening moments along the coast. a man clinging to a cliff in san francisco, but luckily he was rescued. this is video into our newsroom showing the tense moments. the man was just trying to hang on for dear life. >> that video, you see how dark it is, is from 1:00 in the morning. >> reporter: this man is very lucky to have been found when he was. a person who lives in a mansion along el camino delmar in the sea cliff neighborhood of san francisco happened to hear the man screaming late last night from the cliff below the home where this person lived. this is what this man looked like when the fire department arrived. you can see him. he is spread eagle, trying to bare hug a rock, about 30 to 40 feet above the water below. it's not clear how he got there.

we understand he did go to baker beach. it's possible he was trying to make it to a private beach between baker beach and china beach and then got trapped by high tide. firefighters trained in cliff rescue for the san francisco fire department, they climbed down, successfully made the rescue about 1:00 this morning instead of the conditions. >> very grateful. >> gusty winds, it's dark out, wet out. the dark it's pretty steep. my concern is for my crew, to make sure they're secure to rescue this person. >> the man was able to walk on his own to the ambulance to be checked out by paramedics. >> reporting from china beach, bob redell, "today in the bay."

other news we're following, a san lorenzo man killed in front of his father, now 18 years later the family is continuing to search for the killer. this is rick davecki, he died after a hit-and-run in berkeley. years of flyers and billboards and even tv profiles, and the case remains cold. his memory is still alive through the annual arroyo high school car show in his memory. the foundation raised $100,000 for high school sports. here is a sketch of the man who police say killed davecki. he's described as african-american and driving a light colored cadillac. surveillance images are credited with nabbing two suspected thieves. the thieves targeted north bay elementary schools during school hours. this gets better. deputies say the men and woman arrested have kids attending the schools. they would go through empty classrooms, taking teachers' purses and wallets.

they say at least eight schools were targeted since november. police arrested the pair yesterday thanks to tips they received after sharing the surveillance video from schools and businesses. fourteen age boys in serious trouble accused in a string of home burglaries. police say surveillance video shot at one of the homes caught four male juveniles taking money and jewelry. authorities managed to track them down and took them into custody. the four are accused of burglarizing another los gatos home. we may get a better idea today if the much-discussed plan to build a suicide barrier along the golden gate bridge can finally start moving forward. the golden gate bridge district will meet to discuss a new funding plan. bids came in this summer nearly twice the original $76 million estimate. the bridge district has been working to bring funding together from several sources. there are a lot of holiday events happening around the bay area this weekend starting with a lighted parade today, it goes

from 6:00 to 8:00 by pier 39. that's been an annual tradition since 1994. some of the best viewing areas are aquatic park, pier 39, marina green and crissy field. the best part, it's free to attend. 6:09. another boat parade going on this weekend, tomorrow in petaluma. if you miss the one in san francisco, head to the north bay, but it will be cold and clear, only 48 degrees. that starts at 5:30 once again tomorrow afternoon. right now we have cloudy skies, and that storm system is out of here. we will see some clearing today and much cooler temperatures. here is what to expect as we are only at 49 degrees. now as you head out the door, a high of 53. the clouds moving out, still breezy. tomorrow temperatures drop to near freezing with clear skies. another freezing warning. also some frost on sunday with sunshine throughout the day. we'll talk more about this and take a look at more events going on. let's head over to mike. it looks like getting on the

roadways is a non-event. >> it is a non-event. a lot of people are non-commuting right now. looking at the december slide toward the end of the year. minor slowing for san jose, 101 and 880 south of hayward toward union city. b.a.r.t. still reporting over 20-minute delay because of a track issue outside the bay air station. we're not hearing about cascading effects. we're looking at the roadways, those are good options. catch a friend station. the backup at the bay bridge buzz the metering lights are on. up next, two east bay police officers accused of changing the way they reported crimes to try to keep the crime rate lower, the impact that could have on other cases. just over a week until christmas. now is a time to get the gifts in the mail if you haven't already. the record breaking number of packages and letters expected to

i'll detail that in about five minut minutes. >> a delay for b.a.r.t. out of the bayfair station, some problem with the tracks. meanwhile looking at the roadways, a good option to drive, not a problem throughout the east bay. 6:14. a judge has ordered two santa clara county correctional deputies to stand trial in connection to an inmate beating at san jose's main jail. the two pled not guilty to a 2015 beating that left an inmate severely injured. that's the former inmate ruben garcia who say the guards gave him a fractured jaw and many other injuries. the judge made her decision based on a pretrial hearing three months ago. the guards are due back in court december 27th. two pittsburg police officers are accused of misconduct and it's causing a ripple effect throughout contra costa county. prosecutors are dismissing 15 cases involving defendants arrested by those two officers.

the two officers claim their superiors told them to falsify crime reports but not cumenting use of force and recording the crimes as less steer yous to keep the city's crime stats low. the d.a. said she found 15 cases where the outcomes could have been different if defense attorneys knew about the accusations against those police officers. christmas, as we well know, right around the corner and post offices are busy trying to get gifts delivered. customers expected to bring 611 million pieces of mail. that's a 12% increase from last year. a lot of that mail will be taken to processing centers in san jose and oakland. more than 6.8 million cards, letters and packages will go through san jose on monday and more hand 11 million through oakland. if you haven't shipped those packages yet, now is the time. the postal service's deadline has already passed. you can still ship first class or priority.

today is fedex's day if you want items to arrive in time for christmas. a couple years from now it will be 11 million drones delivering packages. scott mcgrew, the dow may need the force to push it over? >> "rogue one" could help the dow move towards 20,000. we'll get to that in a second. dow up 59 points thursday. nasdaq gained 20. no matter what happens, it looks like we'll mark our sixth straight week of gains. on the dark side this morning, new housing starts were not nearly as strong as expected. as for the "star wars" movie "rogue one," it's owned by disney. disney is a dow 30 component. if this movie did very, very well, it could move disney stocks. disney stocks could push the dow higher. to be realistic it's an outside chance. movies are only a fraction of the disney empire.

"new york times" and "wall street journal" hated it. >> we'll look forward to your review on monday. back to our team coverage on that powerful storm we were all talking about that hit the bay area. the north bay community of fairfax, a creek actually went over the banks and onto a family's property. the homeowner shared this video. the property which is covered in water was moving pretty swiftly as well. in some parts the water was actually knee-deep. luckily it didn't make it into the house. several inches ended up in their garage and office. the family says this isn't the first time it happened. >> this takes a lot of water. it handles it. if it's a problem up stream and it clogs, it just goes crazy. >> gary roth making it sound like a way of life. the family spent the night filling up shop vacs full of water. that's a lot of work. they anticipate now having to deal with the mud next.

>> that's the reason why we issue those microclimate weather alerts. that's what 2.8 inches of rain did. >> you said up to five inches in some part. >> ben lomond and santa cruz mountains, a couple spots had seven inches. that was in the hills, in the spots where we didn't have as much of a high population. now the storm system is winding down, getting ready for cool air to move in. a live look in oakland, still maybe wet spots on the roads. we'll check in with mike talking about the wind advisory. right now it won't warm up much more from here. if you're not comfortable now, you won't be comfortable this afternoon. the rm to system moving farther off to the east, taking the cloudy skies. it's 47 in napa, dropping down to 44 in santa rosa and in san jose, 49 degrees. today the high is reaching into the low 50s. that is it. that's what we can expect for

the next several days. winds still breezy in oakland, the winds gusting up to 24 miles an hour. now the cold air will be moving in as the rain moves out, breezy winds for the next couple days. then we keep it dry. we won't see another wet weather system until next friday. until then, we will see some calmer weather in the forecast. definitely great news as many people still have to clean up from the storm system that moves through. in san francisco reaching the low 50s. in the inland area frost and freezing conditions for tomorrow morning as well as sunday morning. we'll have an update on that and mike has an update for b.a.r.t. >> better news. as far as the roadways, not much to see. light commute. b.a.r.t. system recovering, still in the red zone because we just got off the major delays. may still be up to 15-minute delays at the bayfair station. the track problem has been cleared. a light volume around the east bay. if driving is an option, just 14

busy weekend trying to clean up all that rubble. "today in the bay's" bob redell live in san anselmo live where it happened. the people were able to get out okay, bob. >> fortunately they were. several people had to be evacuated. people at 97 magnolia street. when this oak tree came down, it brought down power lines, busted at least one waterline and there was concern about a gas line being ruptured. they did get out for a few hours until they were able to figure out this area was safe. pg&e able to restore power to the 300 people who don't have electricity. this large oak tree falling just before 10:00 last night. it's not a home, but a garage. you've got one mercedes that's crushed. down the street, another white mercedes destroyed and a third one definitely damaged, i don't know if it's totaled.

what's remarkable, it's hard to see. if you look to the right, you can see the roof of the house. this tree barely missed the house where we presume people were inside at the time. this was, again, thursday night when most people are asleep. tree trimmers out here last night. you can see there's still a mess that needs to be cleaned up. the good news, no one was hurt. live in san anselmo, bob redell, "today in the bay." >> now the flood-prone santa cruz mountains, heavy rain and high winds creating problems again this morning. this is an area we've been watching closely, especially the burn area following the loma fire that happened over the summer. >> our live team coverage continues. highway 17. today none of that. definitely we're feeling those cold temperatures that kari was talking about. lexington reservoir got quite a drink in the last couple days. that is welcome here at the reservoir. it did trigger a mudslide near boulder creek. bear creek at ralston ridge is closed to the boulder creek border. some homeowners built dams to try to divert the water. cal fire says the vegetation that would usually help to hold the ground in place didn't stand a chance. instead, it was swept down into the culverts and the creeks creating other flooding worries. >> there's so much more run off because of the burn scar, normally it would absorb nicely, here it's not absorbing at all.

>> now, in the last 24 hours or so, crews did try to stay ahead of the storm. they're going to be doing a lot more of that today. we drove around for about an hour and a half here in the santa cruz mountains. we saw branches in the roadway, piles of rock sliding down. we saw the big mudslide and saw folks doing things that were not kplo completely safe. give yourself extra time to get there. put your hair in a bun, get a cup of coffee and leave early. i'm kris sanchez, "today in the bay." >> here is a closer look at how quickly the water rose in marin county. this time lapse of the san anselmo creek. all this happened within the span of a few hours. town officials ordered voluntary evacuations last night. we're also watching the russian

next thing i know, the car in front of this white one gets smacked, then bounces, hits this one. this truck takes it in the back end, smacks into the back of me. he then swipes down here, hits another gentleman down here and took out that fire hydrant and his car is in the middle of the intersection. >> police are still trying to figure out if drugs or alcohol might have played a factor. so far there are no updates on the victim's injuries. let's talk a little politics right now. this morning president-elect donald trump takes his thank you tour to florida as he continues to down play russian president vladimir putin's involvement in the presidential election and the hacking of the dnc. in the meantime the white house is explaining why it kept details about russian hackers under wraps before the election. minute delays. light traffic. >> more live team coverage of weather in just moments. fir first, frightening episodes tied to lsd have officials issuing a new warning. a minor suffered a seizure from liquid lsd on a popsicle. last week chp fought with a man to be under the influence of lsd. two people were stabbed by a 15-year-old suspect on lsd who authorities later killed. there's no way to know if the same lsd was responsible in every case, deputies released a bulletin reminding people of the big dangers. >> 6:46. menlo park launched a new parking permit program. the "mercury news" says there's a problem popping up. downtown businesses want shareable placards instead of non-transferable stickers. the city says hold on, at least for now. the 2017 permits have been sold

of chahal. he's very, very successful, an internet businessman out of san francisco selling his first company to yahoo for $300 million when he was still a teenager. he'd go on to create 200 more companies. he's also in a lot of legal trouble. in 2014 he pled guilty to two counts of misdemeanor battery, placed on probation when prosecutors say he attacked a second person, another woman. he was sentenced to one year in jail pending an appeal. that's why i did the double take. i was surprised he would get the job offer. i asked the person who hired him to come in and answer some questions. i had my second surprise because she said yeah. >> my views are very contradictory to yours. i've known him, like i said before, long enough and i feel quite different from what i read in the press or what i'm hearing right now. to me, what you're saying, it's coming as a surprise, as to why would i, why would i not have

as you head out the door, skies are clearing. grab a heavier coat you'll need this weekend as the temperatures continue to drop. here is a live look outside at san jose. it is in the upper 40s. as you step out, it's going to be only 53 for today's high temperature. this is what we're in for. clouds rolling out, some breezy winds. for the weekend, temperatures dropping near freezing, especially in the valleys. as the temperatures stay very cool, over the next couple days, once again, we may have some frost for that morning start. looking at what to expect as far as cold air for the bay area, we will only see highs as the storm system moves out. mostly clear skies in oakland, palo alto and san francisco. highs reaching 52 degrees, concord also 52 degrees. wind speeds still breezy, up to 20 to 25 miles an hour as the cold air settles in.

we will still have the sunshine. but don't expect much of a warmup. it won't be until about the end of next week before the next wet weather system moves in. looking at the seven-day forecast for forecast, only 51. the low in the upper 30s for the weekend. inland areas reaching low 50s, morning temperatures near frost or freezing. we will see a slow warmup next week. we'll be keeping an eye on that and keeping an eye on the roadways. here is mike. >> a little unusual as far as the pattern tlup livermore. let me put the caveat. it's december. we have lighter traffic, slow across the san mateo bridge. i'll talk about that in a second. it want to show you a little better for eastbound 580 commute through livermore. unusually slow because of the crash and debris. maybe a fender-bender on the westbound side in the same area. very light overall for the tri-valley. no major concerns there, moves

storm whipped through. first, new overnight, a massive oak tree topless and grows into a garage or perhaps some sort of carport there. you see a mercedes benz stuck underneath it. that's in marin county, san anselmo. that tree in the process of coming down brought down utility lines, broke a waterline as well. there were several hundred customers without power. several people were told to get out of the area for about three hours until pg&e could cut off the power and turn off the gas. thankfully nobody was hurt. >> turning to the peninsula now before an ugly scene played out in east palo alto. large pictures of the damage after a large tree came crashing down on two cars. you see them there. the good news here is no one was hurt. the cars, of course, had pretty major damage. let's move south in the santa cruz mountains. you see images from the loma

fire. rain triggered a mudslide that shut down bear creek road and ralston ridge. the signs says roads closed, we did see people trying to drive through. caltrans true trying to clean debris from storm drains. >> new this morning, amid cold temperatures and whipping winds, a man was found hanging on for dear life on a cliff near baker beach in san francisco. can you make it out in that picture? he was hugging the side of the cliff. strong winds wriping around them. the good news is firefighters were able to save him. no doubt he was thankful. a windy commute to kick off your friday morning. a lot of bay area ridge bridges impacted. the rain may have moved out but the wind sticking around. a very chilly start to our friday morning. >> exactly. it may be clear, but boy, is it
