effect. we will have this last morning of these very cold temperatures. so we are in a microclimate weather alert as we keep you up-to-date on what's happening. getting a look where we do have the freeze warnings in effect for the inland areas and the hills. a frost advisory in effect for the coastal areas. also the inner bay. that will be in effect until 8:00. this is a look at the temperature now. 31 in concord. 30 in santa rosa. 29 in morgan hill. they will continue to dip a few more degrees before sunrise. as we head over to mike, report of ice causing a crash? >> there may be a puddle that hadn't dried up from the rain. we are looking at southbound 17 here. the person involved in this crash that is now out of lanes on the shoulder, right over the lexington reservoir they caught a patch of black ice. chp said it is icy right there.

others said the roadway is not a problem. just slow it down. be prepared for that possibility. we have slowing also southbound 680 at diablo road. big rig there. sounds like may be a postal truck. it is currently trying to get someone out of that vehicle. there is the bay bridge, no problem. back to you. most of the bay area is under a frost advisory right now with freezing or near freezing temperatures. that's standard. >> homeless shelters around the bay area are at full capacity as so many people look to find shelter from the bitter cold. that includes the men's shelter in san jose where there were at least 40 people lined up last night with nowhere to go. we talked with a man all too familiar to surviving the elements. >> i was homeless. income this weather, you have to scrounge to get things to stay warm. if you don't, you have to bundle

up like would be a caterpillar. put your arms in your sleeves and bundle up. you have to try to find a nook. >> the cold weather caused problems underground in rodeo yesterday. that's where an old water line rushed causing a small many leak. in san jose a man was shot and killed. >> bob redell joining us live from san jose. police missed a homicide. they are still looking for whoever is responsible. >> good morning to you. this taking place in the mobil gas station behind me at winchestered a williamsburg. you can see the police are still out here investigating the scene focusing on the area where the food mart sign is. it's possible that man was shot somewhere in that vicinity. that happened around 11:50 last night before midnight. police got the report of a young adult male suffering from one gun shot wound. when they arrived out here, he was still alive.

unfortunately when they took him to the hospital, he was declared dead. police lieutenant telling us they are still investigating, still looking for suspects and will look for whether or not this might have been gang-related. >> we are working on getting a suspect description in the early stages of the investigation. looking for witnesses, surveillance video. anything to help us identify the suspects. >> this young man becomes the 46th person to be murdered within the city of san jose this year. sadly, if you look the a the statistics provided by the department over the past decades, that's the most number of people killed in ten years. the other, the second most was back in 2012 when the number was 45. bob redell, today in the bay. >> thank you, bob. san francisco police are investigating a deadly double shooting in the mission district. investigators say someone shot a

man and a woman around 9:00 last night on 16th and south van zan. that woman died at the scene. the man died later at a hospital. they were shot right here a homeless encampment. we are told by a witness that one of the victims may have lived there. so far police are not commenting. police are trying to figure out if the shooting may be tied to a separate shooting that happened around 7:00 last night two hours earlier. in that case, the man suffered nonlife threatening injuries when a gunman shot him at 14th and valencia. happening today, the electoral college is expected to formalize donald trump as the 45th president of the united states. we elected people and the system will be put in place. 538 members are meeting to cast their official vote. 306 votes expected for trump, 232 for hillary clinton. while protests are planned

across the country. the results of the election are exceedingly unlikely to change. city of san francisco is expected to make a major announcement in the case against the academy of arts today. san francisco sued the for-profit art school for dozens of land use violations. one of the alleged violations is unlawfully converting hundreds of residential housing units into student dorms. the university wanted the matter resolved. it is disappointed the city attorney is acting as the planninging commission. the city attorney's office claims that the school has ballooned into one of san francisco's largest real estate empires. one of the bay area largest charities looking for help this holiday season. st. anthony's in san francisco is in the midst of its annual christmas curbside drive. that continues through christmas eve. the group makes it easy for anybody who wants to to donate. drive up, hand off to volunteers and they are looking for food, in particular. including some christmas hams,

highway 17 over the santa cruz mountains, reports of black ice being part of one crash there. watching the tri-valley and these bridges. no wind advisory but cold. today there is going to be another memorial concert for the people killed in the ghost ship warehouse fire in oakland. >> in the wake of the deadly oakland warehouse fire, much attention is being placed on living spaces, safety and who is living there. this candlelight vision of love was held in oakland near the everett and jones barbecue restaurant. the owner manages a nearby warehouse and was concerned the space was being unoperated unsafely and now wants something done about it. as they say in the restaurant business, much is resolved over broken bread. >> there is a misunderstand iin. it was so beautiful.

increase in clouds and a boost in the temperatures as we go through the week. looking now at all of the freeze warnings we have in effect for all of these areas shaded in purple. the blue shows where we have frost advisories. it doesn't have to dip to freezing to have frost. it's just enough to have the damage, it may damage the trees, some of those sensitive plants out there, and the freezing temperatures a lot more dangerous. right now it's 35 in san jose. 29 in livermore. in a few spots we have a wind. wind chill is an issue as it feels just a couple of degrees colder than what the thermometer is reading. nationwide, most of the country is in a deep freeze. look at chicago. the coldest temperature 10 degrees below zero. that's the actual temperature. here we are above freezing, but will continue to dip a couple more degrees before sunrise. we have unhealthy air quality.

no wood burning today. we have our first spare the air alert in the season. there may be more. if you're wondering how we are doing with rainfall, we had quite a bit. we are 100% normal. that's great news as we see in mountain view over 4 inches of rain today. in santa rosa, 17.5 inches of rain at 171% of average. looking over the next several days, no rain in the forecast until on friday we will have our next chance of rain. looking towards christmas, it will with be rainy for especially christmas day. we'll keep an eye on that. as we head to mike, a new crash on the peninsula. >> this one is a big one. northbound 101. we'll show you things are moving well. talk about 680. we'll update that crash in danville. north 101 through redwood city. slowing heading up to one lane
