because we have patchy ice that may be possible. also lows zip down to the upper 30s. take care of the pets if you haven't done so. we see that for the area shaded in purple. the freeze warnings and still some frost possible for the coastal areas and inner bay. we are tracking those temperatures as they continue to dip. we'll take a closer look at this and the microclimate forecast. mike is tracking a double crash. >> that's after that first crash in the santa cruz mountains. there were reports of black ice. be careful out there. very cold. on the peninsula, we'll talk about this one first. this is northbound 101 through san carlos. a car in the center divide. sounds like a truck hit that car we have a secondary crash northbound 101 around holly street in toward san carlos. that is one spt to watch. only your right lane is open now. the tow truck stuck in the back

approaching this. we'll track that on the peninsula. across the bay, we are looking over here to southbound 680. the bay bridge is not a problem. it is here coming into danville. a lot of slowing towards a crash we've been tracking before the show happened. pete is there around diablo road. sounds like a big mess. >> good morning. we are here right before you get on the boulevard exit. want to show this overturned big rig. we are still working on information from chp. they don't know who owns this big rig. you see a ton of boxes spilled over. could be related to the u.s. post office as far as these boxes. all we know it happened around 3:30. they are saying this big rig lost control coming in lane four, overturning here on this shoulder. they don't know what caused it. if you're thinking about the weather conditions, you know this could have been black ice. we know they lost control in this area. there was a driver inside of

that car that was extricated. not too long ago. the injuries are major. we know it is a very critical issue right now for them as far as cleaning out this area. the driver was taken to a hospital with major injuries. folks driving 680 south, we know lanes 3 and 4 will be shut down 1 1/2 hours because they need to tow that truck out of this area. if you're driving in this direction, expect slow times due to this accident. pete surt yos, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. police say someone shot a man late last night before midnight. he didn't die on the scene but did at a nearby hospital while getting care. that happened on williamsburg

drive and south winchester boulevard about 1/2 mile south of santana row. police are looking for the gunm gunman. this now marks 46 homicides for san jose, the most in more than a decade. bob redell will bring us a live report in our next half hour. san francisco police are investigating a deadly double shooting that happened in the mission district. someone shot a man and woman about 9:00 last night at 16th. the woman in her 20s or 30s died at the scene. the man died later at a hospital. they were both shot near a homeless encampment. we were told by a witness that one of the victims may have lived in that encampment. so far police are not confirming that. police are trying to figure out whether that shooting is tied to this one, a separate shooting around 7:00 last night. not far away. in that case, the man suffered nonlife threatening injuries when a gunman shot him at 14th

and valencia. 5:04 on monday morning. the full electoral college is set to meet in their individual states and confirm donald trump as the next president. in sacramento, a protest is planned against that vote this. was the scene in palo alto yesterday. some people holding up signs showing support for minorities and denouncing donald trump and the so-called alt-right movement. similar rally in san jose. the goal of that event was to plan ways to make sure immigrants and people of color are treated with respect. >> you have a president-elect who has made serious threats to people of color saying he is going to round people up and deport them. that would be a civil rights violation. i'm here to make sure that the public knows that the naacp is here, we're involved. >> organizers and speakers at both events are very concerned

by the plans of president-elect donald trump. we are in a microclimate weather alert as we take a look at those temperatures, 33 in the peninsula and south bay. freezing temperatures in the north bay. in san francisco, 40 degrees after we deal with freezing temperatures, we will have a spare the air alert in effect. freeze warnings in effect for the inner bay and hills as we dip down into the upper 20s and low 30s. coldest temperatures will be coming in about two hours. i'll talk more about that in a look ahead for the rest of the week coming up in just a few minutes. looking over here. we have a smooth flow of traffic around most of the bay. holly street is the official location. it's just a little north of there.

we have clear skies with heaters up on full blast. highs expected to reach into the mid 50s. mostly sunny skies. i'll talk about what to expect as we warm up, coming up in a few minutes. we are looking at the danville area off 680. affecting 680 itself. all those packages look like they were heading on their way via the u.s. postal service. this is a major injury crash. that was a big rig that crashed into a signpost. we are tracking the slowdown and progress of the crash. a person was struck and killed by a cal train in redwood city delayingç service much of the night last night. the person was struck at the chestnut street crossing. cal train says the person killed on the track was track passing. the person's identity has not been released. 5:11. minnesota police officer charged

in a deadly shooting that made national headlines is set to appear in court today. orlando castillo died after being shot during a traffic shot in july. the video was live streamed on facebook from inside the car. you see the officer pointing his weapon in there. that was just after the shooting. officer faces three felony charges and that includes a manslaughter charge. the evacuation of a rebel-held area in aleppo underwent again after delays of delays here. buses filled with evacuees arrived in a crossing point outside that war torn city. those are part of a new cease-fire deal. over the weekend, militants burned six similar evacuation buses. nearly 5,000 people have been evacuated since yesterday. unusual measures are now being taken across china because of excessive pollution. china issued a national red alert for smog. many cities including beijing

are limiting the number of cars on the road for today. more than 700 companies temporarily shut down their factories and schools are closed in dozens of cities, as well that. alert will remain in effect at least through wednesday. silicon valley continuing to worry about america's deteriorating relationship with china. >> scott mcgrew. >> trump talked about a 35% tariff. we discussed the issue with an entrepreneur on sunday morning's press here. she is chinese born, runs raucous wireless here. china's president encouraged his countrymen to invest in silicon valley, more than $9 billion of china's money has come into countries in the bay area los year alone. >> uber friday held a phone conference with reporters to announce it would continue to run its self-driving cars on san

francisco sfreets treets despit fact the state of california told it not to. uber does not have the proper license. uber which called these cars self-driving says they aren't self-driving and the company doesn't need a licensing. >> we are looking at waymo self-driving cars. if you're saying, who is waymo? it's google. the company spun off its autonomous car division and calls itself waymo. let's check another old name this morning. we turn to courtney reagan live at cnbc world headquarters. >> good morning to you. wall street could start the week in posterity. futures are higher this morning. dow coming off six straight weeks of grains closing in on the key psychological 20,000 marks. we look for a report on home sales, personal goods and gdp.

dow up eight points to 19,843, nasdaq down 19 to 5437. elon musk announced he would start a new company dedicated to making tunnels. he was tired of traffic and would create a company to bore tunnels and make new roads and call it the boring company. he changed his twitter page to reflect he is the head of three companies, tesla, spacex and the boring company. "i am actually going to do this." any time we have a guy with a funny accent who is a billionaire with a giant machine that bores holes into the earth, that is every james bond movie. >> he could be a villain. >> this guy has the most exciting companies in the world. >> revolutionary thoughts. >> beyond that, he actually does it. he actually builds cars.

especially for the plants outside and people and your pets. that's what we are also concerned about as our temperatures continue to dip. it's now 33 as you get a live look outside at san jose. it will continue to dip a couple more degrees before sunrise. it will be warmer this afternoon, reaching into the mid 50s. after a freezing morning, that sunshine will help to warm up the temperatures later on today. this week it turns dry and milder, and we continue on what's a warming trend for the next couple of days. by the weekend, the rain returns as we will have two storms moving in right in time for christmas. as we track this storm, it's staying well to the north. we'll help draw in warmer air. then the rain stays to the north of the bay area. once again, we do stay dry. looking at freeze warnings in effect for the inner parts of the bay area. the hills and the inner bay. frost advisory in the coastal areas seeing frost this morning. it doesn't have to dip down to 32 to have frost.

it can be as low as 37. that's what we are seeing in san francisco. it's freezing in santa rosa and san jose is right above freezing. you may still have frost on the car to scrape off. not only that, we will have a no burning day, spare the air alert day as air quality will turn moderate to unhealthy, especially north bay. no returning wood to stay warm. we are not the only ones feeling bitterly cold air. look at the rest of the country. in chicago, the current temperature is at 7 below zero. it's 17 now in dallas. we are once again slightly above freezing in san jose. we haven't gotten down to the coldest part of the morning. it will stay dry through the weekend friday as we get closer to christmas. there will be a storm rolling in. we take a break on saturday and then another one moves in on christmas day. a couple storms we'll be watching farther down the line, but in the near term we are in

for warmer air in san francisco reaching the upper 50s throughout the week. low 60s for the inland areas. no more of those freezing temperatures, at least not for now. now as we head over to mike, we are still tracking that post office crash. >> a lot of folks, we talked about it being the last shipping day for normal post. these packages were on route to their destination. this is 680. expected to be quite light. this will be a problem likely all morning. 680 slow. continues down to just shy where the crash is over on shoulder. pete suratos as a live picture out there all these packages strewn across the side of the road. we are concerned about those but more concerned about the driver of this rig. this rig slammed up and ended up hitting that pole there. was tough to get a person out of the rig there. we are watching major injuries we hear on the scene. this major cleanup on the road

he was skateboarding saturday night when he was hit. the boy's injuries are so severe, he had to be air-lifted to oakland children's hospital. there are no further details being released at this time. the driver of the car is cooperating with investigators. today the world will remember all those moments that hollywood actress zsa zsa gabor has given us. she passed away in los angeles yesterday. >> hello, darlings, i'm zsa zsa. >> the hungarian-born actress died from a heart attack. zsa zsa gabor defined the word celebrity. she married nine times. she made a career of playing herself, a socialite famous for being famous, though she was an actress in our own right. zsa zsa gabor was 99 years old. one of the bay area's largest charities looking for help. st. anthony's in san francisco is in the middle of the annual

christmas curbside drive. that continues through christmas eve. the group makes it easy for anyone who wants to donate. drive up and hand everything off to the volunteers standing curbside. >> santa clara theme park will offer a free night of fun to boys and girls club of the bay area it's the first of its kind called winter fest. people will be able to ice skate, see holiday shows and hop on nearly 20 amusement park rides all night long. they'll enjoy special holiday meal. all getting under way at 5:00 tonight. hopefully they will wear their jackets like their mothers tell them. what a day for lucky boys and girls in oakland yesterday. >> draymon green hosting a

many places around the bay area seeing freezing warnings. thank you for joining us, i'm sam brock. >> i'm kris sanchez in. i was late because i had frost on the windshield. >> sam and i have ice scrapers. >> that's old school. >> it's what you have when you live elsewhere you have to scrape the frost off the windshield and allow the car warm up before you hit the road. heaters on full blast as temperatures continue to dip. all the area shaded in purple, inland areas under a freeze warning along the coast and inner bay under a frost advisory. that will be in effect for another 2 1/2 hours before our temperatures warm up above freezing. i'll talk about that. also the spare the air alert as we head over to mike tracking two major crashes. >> trash flow should be light. north 101, down to one lane.

we are having trouble getting crews there because a tow crew has to arrive. north 101. heading up to san carlos. el camino and 280 are options for you. north of 92, fine on the peninsula. that's highway 101. on the east bay looking southbound 680. all what it down to here you're jammed up. two lanes there, two of four lanes blocked by a crash. danville boulevard is an option for you. parallel to the freeway. that might be a consideration. allow 10 minutes to get through this mess. pete suratos shows what's going on. it's a mess. >> good morning to you. a couple of new pieces of information, we can confirm these boxes are from the u.s. post office. i'm being told this was an incoming delivery heading to san

jose. we know this big rig overturned around 3:30 a.m. the driver drifted over in danville. as far as the driver, he was taken out about roughly an hour ago with major injuries. we are still trying to get information from chp on how this all happened. here is chp when i asked what may have caused this accident in the first place. >> right now, the officer is still investigating it. it's based on witness statements. >> you see firefighters walking in this area. this is going to take time. originally what we reported was said to be about an hour or so. the investigation is going to take actually two hours. expect this traffic to alleviate at about 7:00 a.m. back to you in the newsroom.

>> hopefully that driver will be okay. we are following breaking news out of san jose where a man has been shot and killed. >> bob redell joins us livrom winchester boulevard. we understand police are calling this a homicide. >> they are. good morning. this happened just before mitt night around 11:50 last night. this mobil station behind me at winchester and williamsburg. they described the victim as a young adult man. the call came in when police arrived. they found him suffering in front of that gas station. suffering from at least one gun shot wound. he was alive at the time, but unfortunately died later at the hospital. police are still looking for a suspect or suspects in this murder. they are also investigating whether or not this might have been gang related.

electors have been bombarded by people trying to convince them not to vote for president-elect donald trump. yesterday, trump tweeted if his supporters threaten people like those, they would be ridiculed. speaking of the election, the russian hacking scandal is not going anywhere. a new bipartisan group of law makers is calling for a special congressional information. >> we want to find out what the russians are doing to our political system, what other foreign governments might do to our political system, and then figure out ways to stop it. >> we ned to get to the bottom of this. we need to find out exactly what was done. >> john mccain and chuck schumer leading that group. in an hour we'll have a live report from washington. there will be another memorial concert for the people killed in the ghostship warehouse fire. this to be held at the new parish in oakland. in the wake of the deadly oakland warehouse fire, a lot of

attention is being focused on living spaces for artists. the safety of those living spaces and who is living there. this candlelight vigil of love was held yesterday near the everett and jones barbecue restaurant. the owner of the barbecue manages a nearby warehouse. she has been concerned that that space was being operated unsafely by the artists living there and is asking for cooperation. as they say in the restaurant business, you solve a lot of problems while you're breaking bread. >> to have people generously donate their space, a great response for warehouse fire safety improvement. >> both sides say they have come together with a common goal and

want to keep oakland as a place for artists to thrive. >> san francisco sued the for-profit art school for dozens of land use violations. one is unlawfully converting hundreds of residential housing units into student dorms. the university wants that matter resolved but is disappointed the city attorney is asking as the planning commission. city's attorney office says the school ballooned into one of san francisco's largest real estate empires. rain in the bay usually means so in the sierra. this shows what the storm left behind thursday and friday. so far this winter it got 60 inches of snow. conditions are expected to be sunny and clear but an avalanche

charges as a ruld. someone reported suspicious activity in a home in vallejo late saturday night. when police officers arrived, they found the body of a 35-year-old woman inside that house. police say she had been shot there this man was arrested. details on his relationship with the victim, whatever they might be, haven't been released yet. >> this month the penthouse sold for a record price of $13 million. according to "wall street journal," it went to tech industry veteran craig ramsey. the sale is reportedly the most expensive condo sale in san francisco in more than five years. other tower homeowners have slashed their prices, taken their listings down, even sold at a loss in light of the

this is the last morning of freeding temperatures. coming down to san francisco, it is definitely milder than what you're feeling now in the north bay. high 54. it will be another comfortable afternoon after a very cold morning. this next storm system moving into the pacific northwest will bring in some rain and some snow for them, but for us that, rain stays well to the north then the temperatures rebound as that weather system pulls in some warmer air as we go into the middle of the week. here is what to expect. inland and valleys will be under a freeze warning for at least the next two hours. then we have the frost advisories in effect for these areas shaded in blue. that's where we will be anywhere from 37 to close to 32 degrees. you may still have frost on the windshield, also on the grass, some of those open areas will have frost this morning. down to 30 in concord.

29 in livermore. 28 in morgan hill. also lower 30s for the north bay. after the frost advisory and the freeze warnings are over with, we'll have very unhealthy air quality for the north bay. in chicago, it's 7 below zero. that's the actual temperature. dallas it's 17 degrees. a deep freeze for much of the country this morning. looking at san francisco, a lot of sunshine, highs today reaching the low 50s. if you're wondering how we're doing on rainfall, here is a look alt the board that shows we are doing very well. better than last year when we had el nino going on. we've seen up to 17.5 inches of rain for santa rosa, san

francisco, over 8 inches of rain so we don't need el nino to get a good rainfall around here. there is more rain in the forecast, but not until the weekend. as we get closer to christmas, a dry week and milder weather in the forecast. for the inland areas, expect more sunshine and highs in the low 60s by the middle of the week. looking good there. not so good for that crash you are tracking in danville. >> as we look at this map, go searching toward danville with a big slowdown right here. southbound off la vorna in toward the area. this is south of the walnut creek interchange. two lanes are blocked. we'll show you much of the tale. look at this big rig went up on to the shoulder, smashed into that pole. major injuries reported to the driver there. our thoughts with that person as well as this big issue here. all these packages for the u.s. postal service strewn across the roadway. pete suratos is there.

the national affirm jumped 6 cents. san jose gas prices stand $2.69 a gallon. in san francisco, average is $2.82 a gallon. in oakland, average price is $2.67. an uber driver in florida fought back during an attempted robbery possibly saving his life and the life of his passenger. the driver was cut off and an armed man jumped out and tried to rob him. the uber worker grabbed his own weapon and shot the would-be robber and killed him. the uber driver has a concealed weapons permit. police say he fired in self-defense. what he did was still against company policy. uber prohibits firearms inside the car by drivers or passengers. in pacifica police say two men, one wearing a bandanna over
