safely. >> first, let's start with meteorologist kari hall who is tracking the latest. where is it hitting hardest right now. >> some of the heaviest moving toward the east bay. we are all pretty much seeing light rain at this point this morning. so far we are seeing the heaviest rain rolling in on shore. some of the deep subtropical moisture causing quite a bit of rain. once again as we zoom in is and extending towards fremont, we see the reds and the yellows indicating the heavy rain all across the bay area. that may slow you down as you head out for this drive. what's it looking like at street level. >> the green radar on the roadway would be wet road. so slick conditions.

a church and mission. this is south van ness. a veteran believes he was targeted overnight and his possessions were lit on fire on purpose. >> a flight takes a frighten turn when a passenger starts making racist and homophobic remarks. a san francisco couple videotaped on their cell phone some of those exchanges. it made for a tense flight and ended in a stop in new zealand and 24-hour delay. >> everyone was concerned about what is the next one going to be. well, united airlines said the captain decided to turn the plane around because the passenger refused to follow instructions. new zealand police arrested the 42-year-old man but they are not filing any criminal charges.

the other 250 plus passengers on that plane were put up in hotels and finally landed in sfo yesterday. the search is on for a man accused of burglarizing an elementary school in santa rosa. the man walked into an unlocked elementary classroom and stole five tablets and a box of sharpies and wrote graffiti outside two classrooms. turkish media is broadcasting this video of the suspect that he reportedly shot himself days before running into the club and shooting into the crowds on new year's eve. seven of the 39 people who were killed were foreign tourists. among the dozens injured was an american. >> he was walking on a bench.

when it was above my head. when he shot me, i couldn't move. two years after it happened, the couple at the center of a kidnapping once called a hocks had something to say about the ordeal. back in september 2016, matthew mueller pleaded guilty to kidnapping huskins. the couple say they continue to be harassed despite a guilty plea by mulner. we blurred out this post because of crude language. she said all i did was is survive and i was criminalized for it. not a finished product yet happening today. san francisco transportation leaders are reviewing ongoing changes to a major cyclist

barbara. they said they are not sure if this is or is not a sign of climate change. >> the problem, though, today is getting to the beach in nice weather to see them. and i think maybe friday will be the only window we'll have of some warm weather and sunshine. we will be keeping an eye on that. let's get a look at what we are seeing this morning as you head out the door. we are under a microclimate alert. no more lowell vacation snow. temperatures have made it up to 49 degrees. in the south bay, 50 in san francisco. highs this afternoon reaching only the low 50s. we won't see is the temperatures moving that much throughout the day. only 53 in the north bay. 54 for the east bay. widespread rain moving through. it is is pretty much of the

whole radar. slight sprinkles at this point. we have seen the rain moving the heaviest towards fremont and up towards south san francisco, south city area seeing light rain. also in san francisco. and then in the north bay, some of the heavier pockets of rain moving closer to napa. concord, down to walnut creek, arinda, darker shades of green and heavier rain in the tri-valley seeing heavy rain moving through. and this will also increase in intensity for the north bay as we go into the noon hour, lunchtime, it is pretty much pouring for the north day. some of the heavier rain shifts to the south. it avoids san jose for the most part. but moving through palo alto, the tri-valley. it is still pouring. pockets of heavy rain. a few breaks in between. tomorrow morning we wake up to

some spots seeing wet weather from san francisco is and farther to the north with light rain into the afternoon and light showers for the rest of the bay area. so looking pretty soggy. we take a little bit of a break late thursday, friday. the next round of rain moves in. gusty winds very heavy sierra snow. and we could be measuring quite a bit of rain as well. here's the potential of rainfall with this first round of rain between now and thursday. we have the chance of getting at least two inches of rain. for the santa cruz mountains, three inches of rain. as we go through the weekend, this is on top of what we had so far. we could have over five inches of rain for the santa cruz mountains. snow could total three feet. that's at lake level. 38 inches on of snow at south lake tahoe. in san francisco, we get the

sunshine on friday. that's the only chance you have in this forecast for the first week of 2017. and looking at some warmer temperatures heading into the weekend. also that rain coming down. and a lot of energy to go along with that rain. another look at the forecast coming up. mike is tracking the rain. >> that's right. you have a lot of green on the radar. darker green over here. moving to the east bay. that means green on my maps with the road weather index shows you where it will be slick conditions. it makes it tough to see. we clear it off. remember those wet roadways. slow out of the altamonte pass. some schools are back in session. looking towards the bay bridge, no delays down the east shore

her long-awaited results. >> good morning. back in the summer of 2015 cynthia said she paid $348 and signed up daughter courtney to the softball camp. but a few weeks before camp started, courtney dislocated her shoulder. that meant, well, she had to go to the doctor. he said out four to six weeks. translation, no camp. the camp says it doesn't give refunds. that is on the camp's website. but they told her they would give credit for a future camp. so is cynthia circled back this fall, but weren't any camps in southern california. she tried again and nothing in the area. she is now thinking a refund is fair because the camp is not available. the camp says no. we reached out to college coaches skills camp and it issued a refund. it said it was decide to go award a refund based on the

the system isn't going to let up any time soon. >> it gets heavier as we go through the day. widespread rain covering the radar. a few breaks in between. some of the heaviest moving into the east bay. still a break in the south bay. while we get heavy rain, snow is just dumping in the sierra. that will continue the next several days, even getting heavier this weekend is. i'll detail that and the timeline of when the heaviest rain comes in. more commute, on the roadways now, mike. how is it looking at the street level? >> looking better than yesterday. yesterday had almost no commuters. a smooth flow of traffic over here. looking at the north bay, flooding reported 101 and 37 and merit island. i want to show you the bigger view of the entire bay. wet roadways all over the bay. the bay bridge, backing up here.

bridge. there won't be a shift southbound and northbound lanes which eases traffic coming into san francisco. crews first spotted this yesterday afternoon. they don't know what caused the damage to this median barrier or how it happened in the first place. you can expect crews working on this today. we are hoping to fix it sometime today. pete ssuratos. today the trial for the man accused of murdering morgan hill teenager sierra lamar is scheduled to begin. kri is s, this comes after a series of delays. >> dating back four years, laura. when she told them to be ready she told them to have their

accidents year after year that buses and trains were running on time more frequently. the latest annual uni or report which leaders are now going to discuss later today. they occurred at a rate of 6.6 for every 100,000 miles covered. the highest rate in four years. on time performance improved to a shade under 60%. it was closer to 55%. one of the bay area's main sources of water is being cut off two months. lines out of the hetch hetchy will be cut off. a tunnel may be at risk of collapsing. several cities the including san francisco and palo alto get water from that reservoir.

you can see how it connects up with the rest of the bay. the next two months, those areas will pull water from local reservoirs to keep up with demand. the switch is means you may notice a difference in how your tap water tastes and smells. >> the department of water resources is conducting its first snow survey of the season. finally a lot more power to paddle into. january through april. despite rains, there are still concerns the snowpack is below average this time of year. but forecasters like kari hall point out we have a long way to go before we draw any conclusions. you have to go back a while before you saw this much snow in one week. >> it will be nice to see what they find and look at the forecast and know we have a lot

more snow on the way. snow come canning down in the sierra at this point. we could see decent amounts. at least a couple of feet the next several days. heavy rain today. it stays wet tomorrow. once again for this year we could measure the amount of snow coming down in feet. so by next snow survey next month we could see a lot more on top of what we have had so far. another storm moving in this weekend will raise the threat of flooding, especially on sunday after days of very heavy rain. so i'll have more on that, a look at how much rain we could see and what you should do to prepare. that's coming up. now we are starting to see a little snow on the roadways. >> we are seeing that pattern because more folks are working

the san mateo bridge. certainly stick out there. a lot of people returning to work. >> a lot of people are returning to their destinations. that was no effect task. airports across the country are just now getting back to business after a tough night last night. you see the lines forming at miami international. just kept on going and going and going. all of that because of a power outage yesterday afternoon. it lasted several hours. it had a huge trickle effect causing a backlog from boston to the bay area. there was a very long line. they are all working like crazy trying to get people through. >> san jose international airport, some were delayed as many as five hours. similar stories among passengers

at sfo and boston. miami, more than 30 international flights were affected. some people passed out while waiting in line. we will learn whether george lucas will land his lucas museum. most recently san francisco approved a new plan for treasure island. but los angeles has a competing plan in the works. lucas now expects to meet leaders in both cities and then announce his final decision. >> this comes after fans yesterday endured yet another painful season. the end of it anyway. they were lamenting the loss of jed york. at some point someone asked if

stock was dvidia. it has been doing well a long time. if you bought it for 12 bucks in 2012 you could sell today for 106. wells fargo deals with disaster after disaster. it is brought by workers who say not only were dismissed for raising concerns about fraud, they were blackballed from the banking industry. the big question is will the new ceo stay there. he was an executive back with the scandal broke. he wasn't ceo but he was there. so far investors support him. the consumer electronics show gets under way in vegas earlier this week. some accuse it of a bit stale. the electric car company is supposed to unveil is its sedan. an actual car. that's going to happen today.

moving up very much in the north bay. a high of 53 degrees. still a lot of rain streaming over the bay area. we may catch a break the next hour, especially around san francisco. but there still will be a lot of snow coming down. if you're heading on of to the sierra, make sure you have the tire chains and you practice how to put them on. rain moving through palo alto, the peninsula. around south city, lolita park, that's where we are seeing light rain coming down. and for san francisco, for the most part, mist and drizzle. north bay, rain to satisfy yell. and alamo, heavy rain moving through there, also in the tri-valley. heavier rain moving right at about lunchtime for most of the bay area. when you see the bright yellows and rains, that shows where the

rain will be. this weekend, another round of rain could be heavy increasing the threat of flooding. two inches of rain for most of the bay area. when the next round of rain, check this out, over nine inches in the santa cruz mountains. now is the time to prepare for the storm that will be moving again and the threat of flooding this weekend. talk more about that. now to mike. slow it down on the roadways, right? >> that's right, kari. the rain will dampen the roadways. we are seeing the tri-valley.
