10:03 am
there are small ships, there are big ships, but there's nothing great as friendships. >> no, i have never heard that one. >> i saw it on a pillow. don't you like it? there are small ships and there are big ships, but there's nothing better than a friendship. >> you should do that for your next children's book. >> i didn't make it. i read it on a pillow. >> we want to talk to our friend megan kelly. she is coming to nbc. she's, as you guys know, has been on fox for many years, and we all opened the papers and found out she was coming here to nbc to join part of the nbc family. we can't wait for her to join us. she's a really great nice person. >> super smart. >> i have seen her at parties, and she's always fun. i invited her to come and have some wine. hopefully she'll do a drive-by and have a little sippy. >> i love that the most

10:06 am
>> it's called i tanya, and we don't know who is going to play nancy kerrigan. >> do you have any ideas? >> sandia bullora bullock. >> that's a really good one. let's get her in there. >> should we say congratulations to janet jackson. >> i love this. she's 50 years old, and she just gave birth to her first child, a baby boy named isa elmana. >> her husband is it a billionaire businessman, and they've been married since 2012, and this is janet's statement. this is a statement from janet's camp. she said janet had a stress-free and healthy delivery and is resting comfortably, and people are wondering what is the name, and there's some speculation running around the consensus is that the name means jesus in arabic. >> how great is that. can you believe 50 years old. >> that brings so much joy to me. i feel like my sister is 35. she's probably going to kill me

for saying this, and i just don't stop. she's 35, and she's not married, and people always put pressure on her to have kids. women have actually said to her when is your turn? it really -- you know, she's been married to her career, and she's doing such great work, and i just -- this type of story brings me such joy because i think it's your turn when it's your turn. >> you never know when your time is, and it's today is janet jackson's time. you had your time. barbara will have her time. we're all going to have our time. >> exactly. >> if -- this may be a great thing for you or maybe not a great thing, but kim kardashian is back on social media, and we sort of wondered after that robbery -- she was held up at gunpoint and was it terrifying. her husband has been hospitalized for various things. they've had a lot of family issues. they were off social media. i wondered -- i actually did wonder -- you figured they would eventually come back, but i wondered how long they would stay away or if they would come back knowing just how vulnerable they are.
10:08 am
>> i didn't know my instagram had my location on it for a while. people can see where you are. >> you know what, that's interesting because i remember i was on twitter once, and someone said to me how is life on 60th street? i remember i totally freaked out, and they said the thing about taking it down. actually we have a big announcement when it comes to twitter and instagram. this morning at exactly 9:51 jenna bush hager killed twitter and instagram from her phone. >> i sure did. >> and the reason is -- tell the reason. >> the reason is i find myself in a black hole, like many of you, i'm sure, where i'm just scrolling through instagram. >> wasting time. >> wasting time. >> as opposed to doing the to do list of 1,000 things i need to do, or most importantly, being present with the people i'm with. >> i want to hear -- let's remember today, and i want to see, like, come friday because you do think about -- if you were to put up a timer on how much time you spend going through instapictures. you think, oh, it's good.

i'm feeling it. mindless twitter. >> i read the article says on twitter, and then i'm all of a sudden reading the article before the article, and then another article. >> then you call your friends and tell them about the article. >> reading quotes to my parents. they're, like, we don't care. >> why do you read it on twitter? >> why are you reading these twitter tweets. they don't know what twirlt is. i'm happy about it. >> i think this is awesome. >> i just showed you. if you want to delete, maybe i'll delete too. shall we try it until friday? okay. we'll try it until friday. where is my phone? >> does anybody have -- >> if you want to delete with us, delete with us. here's what you do. you take the icon, and you hold it down -- you hold it down, and it starts jiggling, and then there's a little x. just hit the x in the corner. poof, it goes. >> i feel a little shaky. actually, we were just looking at something, and i was looking for a picture, but she said what are you looking for, your twitter? >> you realize how much -- sometimes you say, well, i'm on the subway, so what. i'm in the car, so what. but you could do a lot of other things. >> yes. >> what else could you do in the

10:18 am
that's what the mammogram is for. they can also detect little calcium deposits in the arteries of the breasts. the study compared then women who had calcification in the arteries of the breast, then something called a calcium score on a cat scan of their heart. they found almost a 70% correlation between calcium in the breast and calcium in the heart. the point here, guys, is that the calcium in the heart is a predictor for heart disease. you can be picking up -- basically you are picking up s incidentally -- we say, you know what? we say calcification in your breast. you may want to go back to your health kay provider and follow this up with more testing, do i have risk factors for heart disease,ky intervene now with medication, et cetera, to prevent the development of true heart disease. >> whenever you hear the word alzheimer's, there are so many people who know people who are going for that. everyone is desperate for some kind of treatment. >> i don't want to tout it as new and revolutionary.
10:19 am
rather, this is another therapy that has very nice encouraging preliminary outcomes. it is called ivig, which is an infusion, an iv infusion, that creates antibodies to the abnormal build-up of protein in the alzheimer's brain. i want to stop short of saying that we have discovered a new treatment for alzheimer's disease but it is yet another one of those early studies that looks very promising that researchers are hoping, with further studies, will actually end up being something that can be useful for people who are in what we call the predementia phase. that's early cognitive impairment and make a difference before the disease becomes full blown. >> do we know when this will be available. >> no. that's the other thing. the earliest study was actually reported in 2015. it was done on 50 individuals. we need a much larger study and we also need anstudy to see how well this could work. >> now talking super computers. they can actually help diagnose.
10:20 am
>> yes. this is about ibm's watson. this computer has been having medical training since 2011. this is what this computer does. this is what any doctor in practice would love to have a watson by his or her side. basically, you can imagine, millions of research articles are available. right? it is a database that we have to look through -- we, meaning me -- to make a clinical decision to make an evidence-based decision to treat a patient. watson does that for you. you plug in all the patient information, all their clinical data. watson goes through the whole database and says, this is the right treatment for the patient. >> why doesn't everyone have it? >> or this is the right diagnos diagnosis. >> this expensive? >> probably less expensive than giving a wrong diagnosis. >> they just reported december 28th i want to say that ibm is now working with cleveland clinic to -- all of this is basically to get more evidence-based guidance to physicians. >> good news.

we're going to do a little clean eating. >> i don't even know what that means, but i'm in. >> well, lucky for us we have nbc news health and nutrition editor natalie here. she's going to explain it all and help everybody who wants to get healthy from the new year start from scratch by showing us what clean eating is all about. >> great. >> hey, madeline. >> we've heard the buzz word cleaning over and over again, but what stwul are we talking about? >> just like jenna said, no one knows what that is. it means pure ingredients, fresh food. fewer ingredients, no preservatives, and a lot of this is something you can do yourself. when you buy packaged food on the supermarket shelves it's e very convenient, but there's a lot of added sugar, salt, and fat, and our taste buds like that, and you learn to adjust to a lot of it, but you can also adjust it when you cook at home and you are making things on your own. you can control those amounts. you can still stimulate your taste buds and enjoy it, but in a way that's smarter. that's what clean eating is all about. real food looks like. we're going -- >> we're going to try to figure out, jenna and i are going to figure out which one is clean.
