from the scene of a fire that is burning in oakland this morning. this from a nearby resident says she woke up to children screaming, help save me. she looked outside and the building outside is was burning. that is 3800 block of harrison north of 580 in oakland not far from lake merritt. we try to learn more information about this fire. authorities responded in the last half hour and the fire is reportedly under control. we want to say good morning to you. thanks so much for joining us on this friday morning. i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. pete will have more information on that fire coming up. we're not seeing any delays of any sort at the moment. however, here's a quick look as far as perspective of where exactly this building fire is in terms of the oakland area. as you had, it is 3800 harrison

along oakland avenue and 580 northbound. i'm pretty sure the surrounding area has fire crews in terms of the cleanup and all of that. however, we aren't seeing any major delays. no major blockages either. i know we have a crew on the way. i'll keep you updated with more on that. they are recovering from a 20-minute delay out of davy city heading towards pittsburgh, as well as the dublin area. this should be back up and running with a smooth flow in probably the next 10 minutes. i'll send things back to you. cold temperatures this morning. >> we have cold temperatures and also getting ready for the next one that will be moving in. it's only 35 degrees in the peninsula. 33 in the south bay. we are seeing frosty conditions as you head out. freezing in the north. there might be some icy spots on the elevated bridges and

overpasses. looking now at the storm that will be moving in this weekend, clouds reaching closer to the bay area. coming with it, a lot of heavy rain is and strong wind. i'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes. kari, thank you very much. let's go now to video we just got from oakland of that fire this morning. >> that's right. i believe it's live -- no. it's video. now they are telling us this fire is out. take a look at the size of these flames of the three-alarm fire of an apartment building burning. nearby residents said they could hear cries for help as firefighters rushed to the scene. it was fully engulfed. >> a three-alarm fire to start initially. there could have been requests for extra resources. it was dealing with the flames. they got it under control 15 minutes ago. someone inside the building there. as you mentioned, there were reports of rescues under way. when we first learned about this

in the 4:00 hour. >> that's right. harrison street is where it was burning, not too far from lake merritt this morning. it broke out a little after 4:00 in the morning when we got the first response in the newsroom. >> just to emphasize this is an apartment complex not a warehouse. a lot of people rattled with what happened in the recent months with the ghost ship warehouse. pete suratos is out there right now. >> we are getting the pictures just into our newsroom. pete will gather more information for us. in the meantime, this storm has been headed to the bay area. >> many inches of rain coming to just about even. >> a lot of that preparation. it was taking place yesterday. sandbags packed with people filling up their cars.

san anselmo hit hard back in 2005. residents and business owners don't want to see a repeat of what happened to them back then. >> everyone is saying there is going to be a big one coming. let's see what happens. >> it sounds pretty serious this time. we don't take it so seriously every time we hear about it. we did get the alert, so we thought we would come out and get sandbags. >> we warn people the sky is falling. a lot of time it doesn't. but when it does, you want to be prepared. >> if you have any questions about resources, look at the tab. it is a good place to start. >> taking a proactive approach to the storm. san francisco is ordering the cleaning of many secure catch basins. you can see them using

high-powered vacuum trucks to get that done. park officials in yosemite making sure they have enough time to evacuate people if necessary. this is what the river did back in 1996 and 1997. i got stranded up there as a reporter back in the day. it overflowed covering the valley floor. they plan to on announce by 1:00 p.m. today if they tell visitors to leave because of all the concerns. nbc bay area app, you can access our doppler radar, get a detailed forecast for your community. a developing story right now. it was a violent night in san jose. the search continues for a gunman who walked inside a tack ria and started firing, killing two people in the process. sharon has the details we're learning of the first homicides

of 2017. above did this is still out there. reporter: that's right, sam. investigators were out here until 3:00 this morning. we saw the seats inside the restaurant all tossed aside. you can see an employee cleaning up, straightening up after the shooting. police responded to shots fired in the 2000 of story road. one of the victims who died was sitting and eating when he was shot. another victim was shot while trying to run away or was shot and then tried to get away afterward. the suspects are still on the loose. officers arrived and located three victims, each suffering from one gunshot wound. two were pronounced deceased at the scene. one victim was transported to a local hospital where he is

currently in stable condition. >> the identities of the victims have not yet been released. the suspects fled in a vehicle. back here live, police are still trying to determine a motive in this shooting. sharon katsuda, today in the bay. two men of killing a hayward man as he christmas shopped in a target store are due for a plea hearing this morning. two brothers are accused of killing tyrone griffin on christmas eve at target in hayward. griffin asked the suspects to turn down the music they were e playing. according to the police report, that led to griffin being stabbed. terrifying video out of berkeley. employees at a wells fargo bank ordered to get down by a robber.

welcome back. this morning we continue to follow breaking news out of oakland and a three alarm fire on harrison street is now under control. >> these are pictures that just came in. pete suratos has just gathered new information for us. pete, what is the very latest? >> well, good morning to you, laura and sam. we're on harrison. we want to show you this three-story structure where the fire took place an hour ago. fire officials say it is fully contained. i have new information to share with you. two residents were inside this building that had minor injuries. no word if they have been transported. we asked if there were any rescues. no confirmed rescues at this time. as far as people inside, they're still trying to process how many

it is expected to show solid hiring and increasingly putting the economy on a path to stronger growth, paving the way for more interest rate hikes this year. markets closing with the nasdaq with a record high. dow slipping 42 to 19,899. scott, back over to you. all right, landon, thank you. we'll bring you the jobs numbers as they come in. as landon was mentioning, nasdaq hit the all-time high. shares of facebook themselves hit an all time high on wednesday. now, that means bloomberg did the calculations. the spike in the stock was enough to push cheryl sandberg, her personal fortune above $1 billion making sure the youngest or one of the youngest women billionaires in the world.

facebook shares fell on thursday. so it is entirely possible that she is no longer -- she's like us. >> oh, yeah. >> just an average joe? >> or she may be a billionaire. >> we'll see. good for her. towns and ski resorts in the sierra are bracing for snow by the foot from the next storm that is coming in. forecasters predicting between 10 and 15 feet by early next week. a lot of it came from the band of weather that is now moving to the bay area. parts of the sierra received five feet of snow from the last storm. some of the resorts had to shut down some of the runs. we know the 80 was closed for some time. >> he with saw that video. there was a backup the next day. who knows where they are reporting out there in tahoe somewhere. those are big totals you just mentioned a second ago.

what are you seeing? >> i think it will come down as rain. it decreases the amount of snow. we may have 40s there over the weekend. during the daytime, rain falling. it changes to the snow overnight. we will be keeping an eye on that. a lot of rain fort bay area. looking now at san francisco as you head out this morning. all clear skies. and some chilly temperatures. 39. we will get sunshine today with a high of 50 degrees. right now it is 28 degrees in napa. below freeze anything morgan hill. one of the concerns this morning is we have to take care of people, plants, and pets. make sure you don't leave your pets outside. for the next several hours, it will be very cold. the freeze warning for these areas shaded in purple. we are feeling very cold temperatures this morning. then looking at what to expect as we go into the weekend.

we'll have more watches and warnings and advisories in effect. a look at what we're expecting as far as wind speeds. a high wind watch for the bay area hills from tonight until sunday morning. winds will be rushing from the south at 20 to 35 miles per hour. gusts may top 60 miles per hour especially for the hill tops. these areas shaded in that orange shade. and we will also have a flash flood watch for the north bay and santa cruz mountains. that starts tomorrow through sunday evening. up to 10 inches in some of the peaks around the bay area. the incoming storms start to on move in tomorrow morning. here we are at 4:15. a good coverage of rain. when we see thes and the reds, there is a more intense downpour coming down. it's off the charts for sunday morning. at 6:00, we will still see the heavy rain over the santa cruz mountains extending to the south

bay. the track of the storm system looking farther south, meaning higher rains will be from san francisco on farther south. is and still raining as we go into next week. one of the computer models shows the chance of over four to five inches of rain between saturday and sunday. and then the rain tapering off monday to just some light scattered showers. our winds coming in from the south starting by tomorrow afternoon, into the evening. this shows wind speed and direction in miles per hour. it looks like for several hours, strong winds. be prepared for the potential of power outages. looking at my computer model for how much snow we could see, 43 inches at south like tahoe. now, that is a lot. tahoe city at about 46 inches of he snow. once again, there will be rain mixing in. so not the best situation. looking at the seven-day

forecast for san francisco, temperatures reaching into the 50s for the next several days. today is our last dry day before we see any more breaks in this forecast. how is it looking on the road, vianey? >> thankfully, no major accidents. metering lights are still off. we do have some areas. you may want to avoid if possible, a check of the maps. it's still looking pretty green. however, we have been reporting on this breaking news out of oakland. we have a crew on scene. 3800 harrison street near oakland avenue. no major closures. there is still heavy fire and police activity on scene. you may want to avoid this at all if possible. i know we aren't seeing any major backup, however, this could be an area that may be closed for a while as the investigation continues as far as the cause. san francisco was seeing slowing on southbound 101 due to a traffic collision. it may have just been a

i just spoke to oakland fire. the fire is fully contained. an electric blanket may have been the cause of this. you can see a number of fire crews still on the scene. this took place about an hour ago. there were two residents inside with minor injuries. they could be related to smoke inhalation. nine people are getting assistance from red cross. they helped one elderly person down the stairs. there's 12 units inside this apartment complex, this three-story unit we're taking a look at. half of them have been damaged as a result of this fire. they are still investigating this cause. it may have been related to an electric blanket. that is something we will keep an eye on. no word if the two residents have been transported. no confirmed rescues at this time. they are still trying to

>> i think it was maybe four gunshots and then a pause and then another three or four gunshots. >> police have not made any arrests. they are trying to determine if it was connected to one on wednesday that left a young father dead. good morning. it is 5:38. freezing temperatures for all these areas shaded in purple. the south bay, tri-valley, east bay and most of the north bay where temperatures will be below freezing until 9:00 this morning. we will see an increase in clouds as we go through the day. this atmospheric river starting to bring in subtropical moisture heading into tonight as well as throughout the weekend. we will have several watches, warnings, advisories in effect. high wind for all the hilltops shaded in brown here. that will be in effect tonight through sunday morning as winds

may gust 60 miles per hour. we will have a flood watch for the santa cruz mountains and also the north bay tomorrow into sunday evening. rain totals may reach 6 to 10 inches. quite a bit of rain for those areas and of the bay area. i'll talk about that and what to expect with the timeline in 10 minutes. let's see if there's any slowdowns on the roadways. >> kari, we are getting reports of black ice that may be causing issues out there in an already troubled spot. earlier we were reporting an accident along 580 near flynn road. now, this accident looks like an additional accident behind that near carroll road. chp is reporting a vehicle may have spun out. they are working to clear this up. we are still seeing heavy backup. there is a one-delay at the moment. unfortunately, this is probably

weekend. 34 degrees in the tri-valley. 33 in the south bay. 39 degrees in san francisco. east bay, 28 degrees. vianey was tracking possibly some black ice on the roadways. that is a possibility with freezing fog in spots. as we get ready for the storm to move in, we have storm ranger powered up. this is our mobile doppler radar. it tells us the type of precipitation falling out of those clouds. and we will have a lot of heavy rain moving in, especially for the south bay, between tomorrow. and it really starts to ramp up sunday with strong winds and some rain. we see it even continuing into the start of next week with more of that rain streaming in. this atmospheric river not cutting off just yet. this model gives us an idea how much rain we can see. it paints a wide swath of four
