a very good friday morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. i'm laura garcia-cannon. i'm scott mcgrew. a lot to get into, including delays on bart. >> system wide delay. delay for bart riders. there was a problem with one overnight maintenance vehicles. oakland side just outside of the trance bay. they are moving the vehicle as quickly as they can. single track through a short portion. that's why the early riders may have a 30 to 45 minute delay. to the rest of the bay, no delays. no problems there as far as your speed sensors go. the right side of the screen. the live cam shows you we're talking about fog. this is definitely a lot of moisture. >> low visibility. fog moving into parts of the bay

area. some of the thickest fog is in the tri-valley and santa rosa. visibility reduced to a quarter mile or less. be careful as you head out. you can see on some of our other cameras it is all clear. temperatures chilly. 38 degrees in the tri-valley. once we get to 37, we may see patchy frost. and fog. and also icy spots possibility on the elevated bridges and roadways. we'll keep an eye on this. what to expect for the weekend as you make plans to enjoy the sunshine in six minutes. thanks. happening today, we could learn the fate of a well-known san francisco restaurant that to find a new home. >> it will close its doors next month after failing to secure a new long-term lease. pete is at lefty's with more and what we are expect to go learn later today. >> reporter: that is the hope, that we will get details on

exactly what's next for lefty o'doul's, a landmark location. you won't be able to open the doors to go inside this popular restaurant and bar. this is a landlord/ant dispute. both have a little bit of history when it comes to this issue. it has been around for decades. it was named after frances lefty o'doul. it is a watering hole for the people who want to watch the bay area sports. they have a holiday toy drive to help out those in san francisco. some consider it a second home. this is a san francisco treasure. any time you possibly could lose a san francisco treasure, you feel a great loss.

coughing and sneezing. but the risk of infection is low. people who went to the gym are being told to see their doctors for treatment. >> years of division appear to be at the end for the san jose police department after a tentative new contract agreement. the city and police officers have agreed to a three skpafr year contract, including wage increases and agreement to recruit and hire more officers. now, the city has seen its number of drop dramatically the last decade. the union has agreed the actual officers must still ratify the deal. the family of a man shot by san francisco police officers are speaking out and say they didn't have the right to shoot the mentally ill man. at a community meeting last night, shawn moore's family described him as bipolar, schizophrenic but not violent. he was agitated when two

officers showed up at his home on capital avenue. body camera footage shows officers tried to talk to moore but things soon escalated. that's when moore kicked an officer in the face forcing police to pepper spray and eventually shoot him. but moore's family insists police didn't have to go that far. >> he's not an animal. he is a person with a mental condition. and i don't think that he deserved to have been shot. >> the police department said it is is not releasing the body camera video because it is part of an active investigation. moore is in the hospital recovering. he is facing felony charges for assaulting the officers. greg suhr is out for the golden state warriors. rereported earlier this week suhr would help with security issues, including planning for next week's ground breaking at the new san francisco arena in mission bay.

activists expressed concerns. on social media after suhr's tenure which involved several police shootings and a text message controversy. he quit the department in may. activists say they are happy with this new decision. >> i thought it might be a practical joke or something. i read it. it was disappointing of course. on both ends. to think suhr could still get employed in an authoritative position. >> he said he doesn't want to be a distraction to the team and the decision is in the best interest to everybody. 6:06. two men behind bars in a purse snatching at a shopping center. one suspect drove the get-away car in a pair of robberies in the mall parking lot. they are still trying to figure out how the other suspect is

involved. air quality experts are focusing on an east bay refinery as a possible source of a foul odor. the rotten egg smell permeated parts of richmond and san francisco over two days at the end of december. a bay area air quality district scientist believes it may have come from flaring incidents from the refinery. they have ruled out an oil or fuel spill in the bay. apparently not everyone is on board with the vta bus is service. certain bus routes will be changed and some will run less factually. people are unhappy with the changes. they say some lines are critical to students and seniors, including the 88 bus line. it may be days before people

stocks fell yesterday. nasdaq snapped a seven-day winning streak. the nasdaq down 16. the post-election trump rally could be tested today. we're getting all the earnings from big banks. jpmorgan chase, bank of america, and wells fargo. wells fargo disappointed. we'll get sales as well. takata is scheduled to reach a settlement to resolve a u.s. probe into the company's fault cancer air bags. they can explode sending shrapnel at passengers. it has been linked to number of deaths. the company will pay $1 billion in fines and compensation to those who suffered losses from the worldwide recall. they could face another $10 billion in liability. news of the settlement comes as toyota is recalling 5,000 vehicles in the u.s. that may have been defective tphrae iviv.

tesla will charge new car buyers to use the new super charger network. after january 15th, people who order a model is s or x will get free credit to charge 1,000 miles. after that, a small fee which varies state to state. buyers of the upcoming model three can still use the chargers for free. tesla says it is trying to recoup a portion of its costs. a foot of snow in yosemite. a lot of water rushing down the waterfalls, rivers, lakes, reservoirs as well. just wait until this spring. it will be pretty amazing. >> we'll talk more about weather in a moment. mike has a big update on bart. >> unpleasant start to the bart riders. we do have bart delays reported. that's not what i wanted to show

you. bart delays reported. they are recovering system wide. the maintenance vehicle, which is still on the tracks in the west oakland area. they are single tracking around. we are looking at vallejo at the bottom as well. you can get there by bus. the ferry service will take care of that for you. getting across the east bay, drive times not a major problem for the bay bridge. still under half an hour. 24 minutes from highway 4 to the bay bridge. the toll plaza itself, metering lights are on. backup is here. but it is friday. no major problems perceived, which you can barely see underneath the low clouds. low clouds here. up in the north bay, there is

so is a big concern. make sure you drive slowly and you are very careful as you a look now around the bay area. we see temperatures in the low 40s for the south bay. and it will be heading into the mid to upper 50s today. cupertino, 55. daly city, 53. 54 in the mission district. novato reaches 58 degrees. so we're looking ahead. now that we have a chance to dry out, if you're planning to head to the sierra, once again they are working hard to clear the roads from all of that snow. as we go next week, more rain and snow moving in starting late on tuesday, more widespread wednesday and thursday. very heavy rain. once again, here we go with several days of rain. changes next week and the

spoke with, power drummer david garibaldi and the basist marc van wagningen. the crossing arm went up rpbgts, and the light stopped flashing. they said what happened next was so sudden and without warning. ? we are crossing the street. the two gentlemen were maybe two feet in front of us. someone yelled train, and paul and i backed up. and the two gentlemen in front of us had no time to react. they got hit. we were maybe two feet from a train flying by. we could feel the rush of it. we moved back away from the train. but the two gentlemen were not so fortunate. >> is another witness tells us both were hit head on by the train. both conscious afterwards. one did need surgery, however.

transported to the hospital. now alaska airlines is saying they believe it is is deicing material that managed to get into the cabin at some point. that plane is now out of commission. it landed 7:00 last night in san jose. the san jose fire response team was ready a hazardous material situation. at that point san jose fire didn't know what kind of material they were dealing with. passengers heard the captain's voice on the overhead speakers. here's what they say he said. >> they said, oh, don't panic, but there might be some antifreeze in the air. we're going to bring paramedics to check it out and see if everything is okay. >> reporter: three flight attendants reported being sick. one was taken to the hospital, as i mentioned. they reported seeing white powdery substance as well. the 181 passengers on board were

kept on the plane 10 minutes while hazardous materials crews went on board. you might have seep they were wiping down the cockpit windows as well. that plane is out of service as the hazardous materials crew that alaska airlines hired to investigate does their. but otherwise everything is back to normal. kris sanchez, today in the bay. thanks for the update there, kris. 6:35. vallejo police still trying to identify the people who were involved in a deadly robbery at ava hoe pawnshop. two men stormed into pawn advantage last month and shot and dog and also hurt an employee. we have a sketch of one of the robbers. investigate issors hope it will generate leads. the suspect is a man 18 to 20 years old, blonde hair and blue eyes. a $25,000 reward is being offered for information lead to go an arrest. >> manager of the singing millennium tower have until today to lay out a plan for

and a major delay reported system wide on bart because of a maintenance vehicle on on the tracks in oakland. one issue for transit and half hour mark for the bay bridge for westbound 80. thank you very much, mike. a man facing charges of assisting his mother in ending her life. meece say eric helped his mother shoot herself in the head last month. investigators say it was the mother's request because she was sick and suffered from severe pain. they do not believe he is a danger to public. he was doing right by his mom. we're noting at a harsh penalty, but we can't not charge him. the man is facing charges of advising and encouraging suicide. he facing 15 months in prison
