amazingly police say no one was injured. seat belts helped save both drivers' lives. in oklahoma towns transformed into isacicle city. >> fire and ice. >> reporter: power lines catching fire as ice melts. in missouri, the ice storm forcing the nfl to delay the steelers/chiefs playoff game by seven hours in kansas city. and in kansas, you can see mother nature's wrath on the roads. this tractor-trailer almost slamming into a patrol car. the terrifying moments caught on police dash cam video. the officer unharmed. >> when you guys know that the weather is going to be bad what do you do? >> prepare. that's all you can do. >> we stock up and stay inside when the weather's harsh. >> bagging when suddenly the power went out. >> how did the customers respond? >> they continued shopping. >> each in the dark.

>> kept walking. >> reporter: they need to be careful outside as power lines burst under the weight of the ice. 39 million people across three separate states are still affected this morning here in omaha, we're under an ice storm alert and that's expected to last until 3:00 a.m. tomorrow. authorities are saying we should assume that these roads are deadly, dangerous and icy. willie. >> the storm that won't go away. morgan, thanks. the question is when will we see relief? dave price is in for al. good to see you. >> good to see you too. the relief, though, may be slow in coming to some parts of the area. this storm basically stretches 1800 to 2,000 miles, all the way from new mexico and before all is said and done, it's going to wind up in interior sections of new england. now, let's talk about exactly what's going on as we speak. this is where we see the ice. nebraska into iowa, and pushing towards illinois.

so, the areas we're most concerned about are right where we see the temperature just touching above or below the freezing mark. dodge city, omaha, into waterloo and chicago. dodge city saw 3/4 inch of ice. how much more will we get and where will it wind up? well, most areas getting between a tenth and a quarter inch of ice, and that is bad news for anyone traveling. it is going to be a rough go at least for the next 36 hours as this storm continues to move toward the east. we'll see you in a couple minutes for a full weather forecast. back to both of you. >> thank you. the weather was likesly a factor in a tragic plane crash in kyrgyzstan, killing people on the plane and on the ground. nbc's correspondent bill neely has the latest. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, willie. this happened in the dark while many were still sleeping in a tiny village in the countryside

in the middle of terrible winter weather conditions. people there are asking why on earth was this plane cleared to land. just minutes after the crash and the fires and the snow mark the impact point of a plane ripped apart. fire crews struggling in the dark, chunks of the aircraft embedded in houses. first light revealed the village was almost gone. the cargo plane had plowed through it. dozens were killed including whole families, many children. the survivors distraught. at one end of the village the plane's tail at the other the severed cockpit. the five crew members dead. the plane left hong kong and was due to stop at kyrgyzstan's capital. it hit the ground after 7:30 local time. video shows the path the plane cut through the village, the

fuselage still smoking. they were able to carry some survivors out. but most people didn't stand a chance, asleep when the plane hit. there was freezing fog when it came down, and questions afterwards. why was the plane allowed to land, he asks, in such thick fog? people here saying either the pilots or air traffic control was negligent. but authorities claim 11 other planes landed safely earlier. whatever the cause, the villagers are traumatized, the country in mourning. search teams are confident the flight recorders will reveal why it crashed short of the runway with such fatal results. and one of those flight recorders has now been found, of the 12 people injured and in the hospital, six are children. the authorities now say the cause of the crash appears to be pilot error. willie, tamron. >> terrible pictures though. bill, thank you.

with four days until the inauguration, president-elect donald trump is making waves again today for new comments about health care, the intelligence community and as you said, civil rights icon congressman john lewis. just days before his inauguration, president-elect donald trump is offering new tee tails about a key promise, repealing obamacare. in an interview with "the washington post" the president-elect said he's close to unveiling his own health care proposal to provide insurance for everybody. mr. trump refused to provide specifics, only saying his plan would come in a much simplified form, much less expensive and much better. the comments sure to raise eyebrows among democrats and republicans this as mr. trump faces fallout with his clash with congressman john lewis moo said this to kuk chuck todd. >> i don't consider the president-elect as a legitimate president. >> on twitter, mr. trump

obamacare? >> no. because i think what's missing right now is -- one, if you look at what obamacare was supposed to do called the affordable care act, supposed to increase your plans, you weren't going to lose your doctor or plan and costs go down. what's happened is market place after market place we've seen plans leaving and many cases consumers left with only one option. the doctors that may have been part of the plan are no longer part of the plan. they can't access the plan they used to have and the costs continue to rise at very high level. the competition is sorely missing. we're not negotiating with dr. gupta manufacturers, we're not instilling a sense of competition to allow them to negotiate over state lines, there are a lot of things missing which would drive the cost down. the beautiful thing about someone like donald trump he comes in from a successful business perspective. he knows how to negotiate great deals and at this point he can now use his skills to benefit the american people and give them a much better health care system than they have. >> let's talk about the latest

battle we've been reporting on, between the president-elect and congressman john lewis, attacking john lewis' district, his service. we're looking at four days to the run up of the inauguration. was this the proper way to handle this? >> i think tamron, i want to take it back a step. congressman lewis started this with your own chuck todd saying that the election was illegitimate and president-elect trump was an illegitimate president. so let's see where it started which is you have this icon of voting and civil rights, claiming that an election was illegitimate when there is zero evidence of that, everybody has confirmed that the election was dually held, no tampering with anything. and to see somebody of john lewis' stature, and iconic nature who worked so hard to enfranchise people and talk about getting people involved in our voting systems and getting talking about the integrity of our voting system to go out when the candidate of his choice does

not win and try to talk about delegitimization is frankly disappointing. on a day like today, where we're celebrating or observing the birthday of martin luther king, the reason you are -- today, president-elect trump is going to sit down with martin luther king iii and others and have a conversation about voting, about bringing more people in, the legacy of dr. king and how we can continue to pr sue that. those are the kind of things we should talk about. with some of the things that john lewis talked about earlier in the interview about the legacy of dr. king and the beauty of what he wanted to achieve, to see him talk about the delegitimization of an election was disappointing. >> two things we know that intelligence has shown that russia tried to interfere which is the issue that congressman lewis took up. who started it, would remind a parent of a school yard fight. let's go to the latest battle with the outgoing cia chief you you have the president-elect in his own words accusing john

brennan of being the, quote, leaker of fake news. if congressman lewis started that fight, what has the president-elect started with the intel community and specifically this tweet accusing the head of the cia in the words was this the leaker of fake news? >> let's back this up a little. part of the goal of the intel chiefs is come and give the president and the president-elect information that they need to guide themselves going forward, the key intelligence reports. and when you see someone like john brennan who is supposed to be giving information in confidence to the president-elect, go out and attack the president-elect and talk about his lack of understanding of russia, when in fact he is a very, very poor record on not just russia but some of the key world affairs and there are questions how certain information is getting out, again it was john brennan, someone who the president-elect is supposed to be trusting that came out and attacked him on his breadth and depth of understanding of russia which is unbelievable. you could question the president-elect's knowledge and understanding of russia, is

pretty remarkable. >> we have limited time, sorry -- does he believe he leaked that memo? that's the question. >> i think there's a lot of questions as far as how that thing got out and some of the information that got out and the context in which it happened. so i think there are a lot of issues, you see someone like john brennan go out and publicly attack the president-elect and his understanding of a key issue that he has an unbelievable grasp on, it is disappointing that once again you've got these people -- make no mistake one of the things that is interesting about this president-elect is that he's not going to sit back, he is going to fight for america, going to fight to make sure we are around the globe and american workers are put first. >> also on the last note, willing to fight television programming including "snl" his tweets went from criticizing brennan to "snl" and is that what we are again continuing to see? >> i would say just before i let you go on that, what "saturday night live" did on saturday,

her just revealed firsthand account of last year's robbery ordeal in paris. kelly has that story. good morning. >> willie, good morning to you. this is kim kardashian's personality account, the robbery in her own words telling what happened in that private paris hotel room back in october. a police statement given to police just an hour and a half after she was robbed at gun point. kim kardashian back in the spotlight. the selfie queen was in dubai over the weekend, her first trip abroad since being robbed at gun point in her paris hotel last october. the details of that frightening night from kim's own statement to french police. in the police report, she says i heard a noise at the door, like footsteps, and i shouted to ask who say there. no one answered. she told police she called her bodyguard and then she said i saw through the sliding doors two people coming in. the two men were hooded.

the one had a ski mask and a cap and a jacket with police with written on it. the second individual had the same clothes, but no ski goggles. they stood over her, she said, demanding her diamond ring on her night stand. she told police, one of them takes out the gun and i show him the ring. he pointed the gun at me. she said i was in a bathrobe, naked underneath. they pushed me on to the bed and at that point they tied me up and put plastic cables and tape on my hands and then taped my mouth and legs. they carries me to my bathroom, specifically the bathtub. the robbers, she said, cleared out her jewelry box, taking bracelets, diamonds and a gold rolex watch. in all, $9 million in jewels, plus her iphone and blackberry. kardashian told police she left the cash. in the report, she told police she was able to free herself from the tape and ties once the robbers were gone. they're going to shoot me in the

these are deviations from where we should be this time of the year. charleston, in the 70s. 42 in boston. 43 in pittsburgh. 71 in nashville. we look ahead and this area continues to expand to the north, west and east. washington, 55 degrees. wilmington, 71. and jacksonville is going to be at 79 degrees. that's just about 20 degrees above where you should be this time of the year. as we look at the rest of the week, look how many different states are above the norm and enjoying this mild air for this time of year. this is particularly interesting, as we head into inauguration weekend. thursday, it's going to be 54 in washington. friday, still into the 50s, although we are looking at a chance of showers. and as we look ahead, in areas like charleston, we're going to be about 72 degrees. 45 in chicago on friday. and 71 good monday morning. i'm meteorologist kari hall.

medications may have serious side effects. but did you know that combining certain foods with prescriptions can determine how well they work or don't work. natalie azar is a medical contributor. good morning to you. we're talking specific foods and classes of medications. let's start off with leafy greens. they're good for us. >> they can interact with a medicine called warferin. it helps with blood clots. it counteracts the vitamin k. vitamin k is found in leafy green vegetables. some of the biggest offenders would be spinach, kale and collard green. what does that mean for the patient taking it? if you take too much vitamin k, it will decrease how effective the warfrin is. it has to be a consistent amount. your doctor or health care

provider is going to check blood tests on you to make sure your warfrin level is therapeutic. >> in this case, is that listed on the prescription? >> a lot of times the things are listed on the prescription. also in the package insert. and you're going to inlist the help of the pharmacist to teach you about the drug/food interceptions. >> ace inhibitors. >> and bananas. >> what are ace inhibitors. they relax blood vessels. they're good to treat high blood pressure and heart failure and other things. but they can affect the kidneys and cause a pump in your potassium level. people that have a not normal kidney function, eating too many bananas, rich in potassium, could raise the level to a high enough degree to have heart abnormalities. this is something that most health care providers would be familiar with. >> moving on to antibiotics and milk. >> i don't know. the group of antibiotics called

tetra tetracyclins. it will block of absorption of the medicine and make it ineffective. another class is cipro. you're allowed to take with milk. and the point here is you don't want to take it at the same time. you want to spread it out, the medicine with the dairy, a couple of hours. >> this case, i'm seeing the label do not take with milk. >> that's a common warning. >> nsaids and garlic. >> nsaids, which stands for nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs. that's a plate let drug. and so does garlic. garlic can also thin your blood. people taking garlic supplements

and taking nsaid regularly, could experience blood thinning that could be dangerous. >> what if it's just in your food? >> if you use garlic for seasoning, it shouldn't amount to that effect. but taking a whole garlic and a lot of it, where you can get in trouble. >> grapefruit. >> grapefruit is one of the biggest offenders. but statens that lower cholesterol. that can cause the statin level to rise. they are fantastic medicines for preventing heart disease and treating cholesterol, can have said effects. we're advise people not to drink -- i read different sources. a quart of grapefruit juice a day. other drinks like orange juice are not so difficult. the provider or pharmacist can offer guidelines. >> some of this i never heard before this segment. this is fascinating. thank you very much. for an in depth list of the
