now we are going to be dealing with whipping winds on top of it. >> all right. double dose of weather elements. let's start with meteorologist kari hall. kari, good morning. >> good morning. yes, the first one moving in with heavy rain. we will see this in waves as we go through the day. it's going to put some additional rainfall on top of the very wet ground we had from the systems is from last week. as this moves in, we are seeing bright reds on the sraeurd from vallejo, extending east of oakland. it's not saying that long but it is putting down rain on the roadways. as you head into the east bay, also seeing some rain with these three systems, we are expecting the potential of at least three to four inches of rain in spots. more on that coming up in six minutes. as we head over to mike, how is it looking at the bay bridge

toll plaza. >> intense radar activity. rain coming down on the diagonal. you see it hitting the roadway and the lens. light traffic. show you the mapping we're talking about the north bay with the ponding and the puddling. no reports of flooding. a light build to your commute. that is the good news. the bad news, it's just getting started, guys. >> today in the bay kris sanchez continues our coverage this morning. >> steady rain in the forecast. kris joining us with an up close and personal look of what's going on there. a lot of people had to preemptively evacuate. kris, what are you seeing? >> reporter: right now it is very quiet out here. the area is still evacuated or closed until the 25th. the uvas is at combat.

raj will also cover the women's march on saturday. we have breaking news out of antioch this morning where authorities are investigating the first homicide of the year in that city after a smashed into a home. this is a live look at the scene. still very active this morning. we understand the car struck the side of the home after 9:30 on 13th street. when officers arrived they found the driver suffering from a gunshot wound. police say he died at the scene. the victim was a 27-year-old man from martinez. police are not releasing details about the investigation other than to say it is still in the early stages. but they are asking anyone with information to call antioch police. new details on the orlando nightclub massacre. they all continue to unfold after an arrest here in the bay area. the wife of omar mateen, the man

i tweeted out the picture of the radar where the heaviest rain is coming in. we will be tracking three storm systems moving in of the next several days. or more on this and the squaw valley, alpine meadows report at 5:14. we have seen the rain coming through. it is building for the sierra. the blue here in north bay, san francisco, east shore getting puddling as more intense stuff comes through the area. and westbound 80, a new crash for the upper east shore freeway. no flooding reported yet. of course there is a risk as the rain comes through, quickly traveling toward the tri-valley. damp roadways. the san mateo bridge, companies are getting worse.

good wednesday morning. it is 5:12. record january snow there with 15 feet. we had 93 trails open at alpine meadows. there is a lot more snow on the way for much of the sierra. at least two to three feet of snow possible in some spots. i'll talk about the rain timeline and look at the radar

but it is rainly in rich mapped, san rafael bridge. we are looking at localized flooding. today the winds start to kick off. we may have gusts up to 50 miles per hour causing down trees and the potential of power outages. as we go into this weekend, the concern of some coastal erosion. and we are going to the see some of the waves of rain moving in, moving off towards the east. and then once again seeing this becoming more widespread as we go through the day. some of the heaviest rain moving through parts of the east bay and the tri-valley. it is moving through concord, antioch. oakland seeing heavy downpours a little while ago. over toward clayton. and heavier down in the tri-valley is, live more, pleasanton. the bright reds and the yellows showing very intense rain. and starting to sprinkle a

little bit in parts of the south bay. san jose, seeing light showers moving in now. as we go into the day, at 9:00, some of the bouts of heaviest rain will be moving through the north bay. we will be seeing at least times of rain off and on. lunchtime, the most intense downpours will still be in the north bay. and then as we good into this afternoon, starting to see a lot more rain covering the map here. at 5:00, during the evening commute, standing water most likely on the roadways and gusty winds. 8:30, still seeing waves of heavy rain moving in in the morning at any point. the wind advisory begins today

at 1:00 this afternoon it continues until 1:00 in the morning. winds picking up 40 to 50 miles per hour. as we approach the evening commute, winds at half moon bay, 48 miles per hour. we expect that potential once again of down trees and power lines and winds calming down later tonight. the next one early friday. another one late saturday, sunday. a few hours of a break in between. we dry up tuesday and temperatures staying mild. not a big problem for 680 north

san francisco man who says the city of san francisco wrongfully threatened him with a lawsuit. chris chmura joins us. >> he went to the er in august 2012. doctors recommend he transfer to another hospital so they called an ambulance. all went well. he was released the next day. the insurance covered everything minus a $100 co-pay. so he was surprised when three and a half years later he he received an $1,800 notice of delinquency from the city. $1800 for the ambulance ride. apparently they hadn't billed his insurance back when it happened he said the city should have billed his insurance three years ago. before he would get an answer he received another notice from the city, this one a notice intention to file a lawsuit. he panicked and paid the $1,00

steady downpour with a lot of green on the map. you see the reds and the yellows moving into the east bay. approaching oakland once again. as we go over toward the dell the ta and discovery bay, brent wood area, rainfall rates at an inch per hour. and the tri-valley just starting to get a little bit of break after that heavy rain just moved through there. as it continues in its track from the west to the east, light rain moving through the south bay. and mike has concern of hydroplaning. >> always an issue when the rain comes through. chp confirming hydroplaning as one factor for the crash. they are wet top to bottom in the bay area. westbound 80, highway 40, a vehicle said they hydroplaned before they got into a crash. no major injuries.

a flat tire and two fender-benders through this area means there is spectator slowing. we should have metering lights. there we go. right on schedule. >> everybody heading back to work. live from pacifica where the whipping winds and the waves could be causing more problems. bob, good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. a concern for the sea of pacifica. they are worried it could come over the seawall and up the road along the pacific coastline. we are a couple hours past high tide. the ocean is churning. this is nothing in of it being a

problem. this is just of your typical prestorm waves. there is going to be a weather advisory in effect put in effect by the national weather service starting at this afternoon. a strong wind advisory from 1:00 until 1:00 thursday morning. so about 12 hours. here along the pacific coastline, we could see gusts 40 to 50 miles per hour. stronger gusts as you head up the upper elevations 1,000 feet. you look ahead towards saturday, our weather department is predicting waves could be as strong, some of the biggest waves we have seen since 2014. incidentally, you might recall, 310 esplanade. they tell us demolition work will be starting as early as next week. the issue now is workers are inside that complex trying to prep it for that. bob redell, today in the bay.

of breath. according to bush's chief of staff he is doing fine and expected to be discharged sometime within the next couple of days. the former president is 92 years old and has experienced his share of health insurance in recent years. in italy, a moderate earthquake struck just hours ago. a magnitude 5.3 was centered near amatrice. if that sounds familiar, it is the same city definivastated by quakes last year. the quakes could be felt in rome, 70 miles away. some schools have been closed for the day. as for the history here, these are the latest to hit that region of italy the last year. back in october, a magnitude 6.6 earthquake hit the area

northeast of rome. before that in august, almost 300 people died in a pair of earth kwraeubgs. thousands left homeless. there was a significant amount of damage to older buildings. 5:36. police searching for a homicide this morning. the first homicide of 2017. good morning, pete. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, laura. just a few weeks into the year, and the city has its first homicide. we're on east 13th and simmons. the scene has just cleared about a half an hour ago. the car didn't quite hit the home, but it definitely drove on to the as you can see behind me. when the toyota prius was being towed away, this car drove here at 9:30 p.m. there was a driver inside with

an apparent gunshot wound. he died at the scene. no folks inside the home were injured as a result of all of this. of course it is still under investigation. they haven't provided information on exactly who the suspects are in this bizarre case. the car drives onto this home's front yard. the driver found inside, pronounced dead at the scene. pete suratos, today in the bay pete keeping tabs on that for us. thank you very much. a lot of protesters in washington for the inauguration. one man said he tried to light himself on fire in an act of protest of the election. this happened last night outside the trump international hotel in washington. the man suffered serious nonlife threatening injuries. the inauguration quickly approaching. and a list of people boycotting

is growing. 50,000 democrats are turning their back on the president-elect. some of them say they will stay away in protest. >> an inauguration is a celebration. i don't think i can clap and be be happy about what is taking place in terms of the agenda of this next president. other local lawmakers that are going to his inauguration say step one in fight to go make sure the constituents say he wants the president-elect to know he is going to continue to ask tough questions. they say they are planning to make a statement. all eyes will be on the capital for the rest of the week. our own raj mathai will lead coverage in washington, d.c. starting thursday night. in addition to covering friday's

inauguration, he will report on the women's march on saturday. parents are raising concerns after what appears to be nazi propaganda sent to printers around the uc berkeley campus. a mother is upset the school didn't notify them about the flyers and feels officials dismissed their claims. >> i wish the students would have had some sort of notice. because without finding out through someone who works there, we wouldn't have known. >> campus officials tell us there is no credible threat at this time. similar flyers have been sent to printers in the past. they are working to prevent it from happening again. 5:40 right now. we are in a microclimate weather alert. pockets of rain coming through, kari. >> yes, sam. there will be breaks in between. we are seeing that as we look at the hour by hour outlook. 9:30, during the main morning commute, waves offier moving in.

updates throughout the morning. at quarter to 6:00 right now, happening today, a woman accused of abducting a 3-year-old boy in oakland. she was babysitting the boy last friday when she took in the family's minute have van and never returned. an amber alert was issued. police eventually found the woman and the boy, was not harmed. yesterday president obama granted khreclemency to chelsea manning. last week wikileaks said if obama grants manning clemency, assange will agree to be extradited u.s. as for manning, she was convicted of stealing 700,000

power lines as well. now we're looking at san jose where the light wind moves through and the streets are wet. you see the lights shining down on downtown san jose. this is what you have to deal with. there have been pockets of heavy rain. thankfully for now much of the bay area taking a break for the north bay san francisco. we have rain moving through parts of the east bay. now in oakland that rain has cleared out. it's to the east of you. east of orinda. bright reds and yellows will move off east, brent wood, within the next 30 minutes as that continues to track off to the east. showers in palo alto, sunny veil. this will be moving a second wave into san jose with light rain temperature wise. as you deal with the wet weather, temperatures in the upper 40s in the peninsula. 48 in san francisco.

and 50 degrees in the east bay. a wind advise will be in effect starting at 1:00 this afternoon continuing to 1:00 a.m. the strong winds will be kick canning up today as the southerly may gust 40 to 50 miles per hour. let's look at the timeline. 1:30, we see the southerly winds kicking in at 43 miles per hour. that will also churn up the waves. san francisco, 23-mile-per-hour winds. it will come up to 30 miles per hour. the evening commute, 5:00, keep a tight grip. 30, possibly 40 and gusting up to 50 miles per hour. and throughout the day, pockets of yellows and reds there by 9:30 in the morning. by lunchtime, we're all pretty much seeing rain and the winds starting to pick up. a widespread heavy rain early afternoon. 2:30 in the afternoon to 5:30 is

when we will have the brunt of the storm moving in. then the system slowly winding down by 9:00 tonight. still pockets of heavy rain possible. we'll still have scattered showers in the forecast for tomorrow. by tomorrow night, we get ready for the second storm to move in by 4:00 friday morning. we are seeing pockets of heavy rain moving in. also this weekend, with the third storm system expected to move in, a north westerly flow 20 to 25 feet. that could create coastal erosion. i will keep you up to date if you follow me on facebook and twitter. and we will see those temperatures staying in the 50s for san francisco, drying out finally on tuesday after all of
