i'm laura garcia-cannon. >> i'm sam brock. we are bracing for another storm about to hit the bay area. it is not just rain we will be dealing with. the high winds as well. a live look at the dunbarton bridge. >> we have team coverage to help you get up to speed. we'll start with meteorologist kari hall for an updated timeline. >> the first storm has already passed. this one is not giving us much time to dry out and recover. we are still seeing lingering spotty showers moving through the bay area this morning. still rain across parts of the bay. now as we get a closer look right there on the bay bridge you can see rain coming down. it is is approaching oakland and emeryville. for the peninsula, we have rain south of san mateo, redwood city. it is about to get heavier for 10 or 15 minutes.

are dealing with in pacifica. bob redell continuing coverage from the coastline. how are the waves out there? >> good morning to you, laura and sam. if you look at the waves behind me by the pacifica pier, definitely more turbulent than it was. wave heights similar. they are coming in quicker. they will come up to the seawall. you'll definitely notice a different intensity from what we saw yesterday. with the other storm on its way, forecasters predicting 12 of 25 to 30 feet saturday morning. you can imagine the city of pacifica is doing its best to prepare for the next onslaught of wind and rain. clean out the storm drains that spills out to the ocean by making sure it is clear of any

sand. and a sinkhole estimated 40 feet wide, 15 feet deep. a nearby cliff that has been eroded for a number of years, this is a reminder why the apartment complex at 310 esplanade needs to come down. they can start demolition as early as next week. back here along the seawall, this welder spotted the wind and rain he was trying to repair a railing. yesterday it was just too much. >> it's gnarly, man. i'm going back to where i came from. >> in spite of yesterday's gusty winds, an estimated 40 to 50 miles per hour. they did find it okay to can come out to the pacifica pier. we hear the fishing did good.

a light breeze. look at the waves behind me. you can definitely see a different intensity out here this morning than we saw 24 hours ago. reporting live, bob redell, today in the bay. >> thank you very much, bob. >> the problems well chronicled. we are watching out for trouble spots in san francisco as well. a live look at the bay bridge and the toll plaza with this latest round of rain. it is not just wet. high winds and advisories in effect. it was closed because of concerns of shallow rooted eucalyptus trees. today crews are expected to knock down loose rocks and install new fencing after the barricade. it will reopen as soon as it is complete. >> they are still getting over issues from yesterday's storms. thousands were left in the dark.

sam? laura, let's go to breaking news right now from europe. crews in the mountains of central italy are scrambling to rescue people believed to be trapped inside the damage from yesterday's strong earthquake. one confirmed death so far and two people have been rescued. crews fear there could be many more deaths. reports of people who are trapped sending frantic text messages to their loved ones trying to get free to safety. this is the scene out of iran as a high-rise building collapsed killing 50 firefighters. dozens are still trapped in the rubble. that was a 17-story structure that caught fire in tehran said to be one of the first built in the iranian capital.

house on fremont avenue. he tried to grab his laptop and ran away once he noticed the student was waking up. federal representatives are visiting the stanford campus. members from the office for civil rights are holding office hours today where students can have student groups. the agency is investigating how the school handled recent complaints. >> the feds, along with two states, illinois and washington, have accused a company called navient of cheating students. they handled hundreds of

billions of dollars worth of private loans. lawsuits say they steered them toward payments that would make more profit for the company. the student loan lawsuit was brought in part by the consumer protection bureau a bureau the republicans said they would like to close. also the same agency that caught wells fargo. the labor department filed a last minute against oracle. the feds showed a preference for asian when hiring for new jobs. note their jab at the the timing. oracle says the complaint is politically motivated based on false allegations and wholly without merit. janet yellen will keep her job.

oakland. it continues to move off to the east, skyline boulevard. as we head around the peninsula, rain moving through west minlow park. rain staying the north of napa right now. it will be very hit or miss as we go through the afternoon as well. a few more breaks in between. only expecting some spots up to a quarter inch of rain. we start to the see the radar becoming a little bit more busy around midnight. the heaviest between 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning. the next storm system set to move in. behind that, spotty showers through the forecast tomorrow afternoon. not many breaks here. if you are trying to make plans to get outside, it's not a good bet at any point in the day.

only for the san mateo but also for the antioch, richmond and the bay bridge as well. as you drive over this bridge or of the other bridges, you won't see it of course. you may see wet roadways. the rain is still coming down as well. california highway patrol is advising drivers to slow down. make sure you keep both hands on the wheel. give yourself safe distance to stop. wind is a particular concern for high-profile vehicles like delivery trucks, semis and live trucks like we have. kris sanchez, today in the bay. >> 5:38 right now. the latest storm that rolled through the bay area dumping plenty of snow in the sierra. for drivers, chains are now required on i-80 and 50.

east san jose names council member carrasco as vice mayor. a confirmation hearing will be tuesday. a $12 million plan to improve park space near lake mary. for this to happen, roads in that area have to be closed during phase one of the program. one day after the presidential inauguration, women are expected to march in washington, d.c., including many from the bay area. susan jackson took the red eye last night. they said they are concerned about how women will be treated when president-elect trump takes office. >> i just feel like it is

pockets of heavy rain north of black hawk and fremont, pinole. we are seeing heavier rain moving north of pap that. you are hearing the rumbles of thunder with that little small cell that continues to quickly race off to the east. we will see more rain rolling through as we go through the day. not expecting any high rainfall totals. it still may be enough to wet the roads throughout the first part of the day. a much longer break during the afternoon before that next storm system moves in tomorrow morning. at midnight, coverage of rain. but the heaviest stuff arrives between 3:00 and 4:00 in the morning. you may be awakened by gusty winds and pouring on the roof. off and on rain throughout the forecast on friday as well as saturday. over the next couple of days,

looking at the potential of another inch and a quarter to two inches of rain for parts of the east bay. and two, maybe even two and a half inches, for of the bay area. winds once again will be an issue. the windsing up. and the highest wind speeds will be 4:00 in the morning coming up from the south 30 to 40 miles per hour. calmer winds as we go into late friday morning. you're tracking a few spinouts around the bay. >> slick roadways. traction is an issue. we definitely have one on the peninsula. we wanted to show you the typical pattern 10 there. we continue to track the fast lane blocked by a spinout. 101, ralston avenue. it doesn't add considerably to your travel times. add two minutes because of your

er liz wagner. >> reporter: good morning. the woman at the top is defending the system saying reforms improved work comp. she said it's getting better thanks to a brand-new law. she finally agreed to speak with us following our series of investigations that exposed cracks in the system. more than 150 people contacted us through e-mail and social media. many complaining they can't get the medical care they need to get back on the job. the problem is many doctors don't know how to request the right treatment for their patients. she said the state is reaching out to fix that. we talked about a new law that will speed up care. during the first 30 days of new injuries, workers will no longer be is subjected to a medical reprocess many blame for denying treatment. baker points to research groups
