are busy or doing something you want your child to be occupied, whether at a restaurant or whatnot. you hand them an ipad and think, oh, so what. but what are we actually doing to our kids' brains by giving them all this time? >> touch screens are in their infancy. they really only have been out five to seven years. research on it is not so great and it's still in its infancy. but what we do know is that it seems that it's a much more active activity than things like watching television. most of the research we look at is television. television is passive watching. apps get kids involved. they are doing something. they have to manipulate. it helps with fine motor skills, can help with cognitive development, creativity and attention. there's a whole bunch of really great stuff because a lot of the apps especially for kids are interactive. so there are things we have to do. we also know it's sedentary. they're not moving. it's not as active. so that's one of the real downfalls because it can create health problems and that kind of

hyperfocus with forgetting -- also my biggest pet peeve is when the whole family are on their phone. it must also disturb like the intimacy of conversation and family. and these stats, nine hours of social media a day that teenagers are spending -- not social media but some kind of media in six hours. >> kids and teens spending six to ten hours a day on some sort of screen. >> that's too much, right? >> it may be too much and we have to figure out, schools are using computers and ipads to have them do their homework. i have clients that do their homework while face time with friends and doing their homework together. we all got together and did homework with kids around the kitchen table. it's a different way of thinking. >> let's look at ways to cut down on screen time. ten hours is way too much. okay. so what are some things we can do for our kids? >> you have to kind of be aware of what's happening, right?
