good saturday morning to you. 7:00 on the nose. giving you a live look outside. beautiful palm trees, cloudy skies, slick roads in san jose year the guadeloupe river, under a microclimate weather alert. the bay area is under a flash flood watch and a high-wind warning today. good morning to you. we appreciate your joining us. i'm kira klapper. vianey arana is here with a look at our microclimate forecast and you have had a busy morning. >> yes. right now seeing scattered showers. heavy downpours at time, but, yes, we are expecting to see a few of those downpours throughout the day. right now 40s and showers across basically the majority of the bay area. already seen heavy downpours overnight. of course, a lot of those commuters tweeting me they saw a lot of ponding water, especially when it's dark. that's an issue going into tonight because a third storm is expected to make its way through. ahead of the cold front bringing

gusty winds. why a high-wind warning has been issued that will be in effect from tonight through sunday morning. we're expecting possible gusts anywhere between 30 to 50-plus miles per hour. so that's definitely going to be something to keep an eye out. of course, we are currently under a flash flood watch until sunday afternoon for the entire san francisco coast and central coast, and what that means, the potential for flooding along roadways, urban areas and small streams and a flood warning in the southeastern side of the counties that includes areas of hollister where they've seen serious flooding with past storms as well. urban areas, small streams definitely something to monitor and play close attention to as the third storm makes its way in tonight. a closer look at the timeline, exactly what you can expect in a couple minutes. >> we'll stay tuned. thanks. first the women's march on washington beginning right now

in d.c. a quarter of a million people are expected. there is a live look there. busloads of demonstrators arrived yesterday from across the country. this morning, they're beginning with a rally at the national mall, and then this afternoon will march to the white house. political activists angela davis and feminist glor dia steinia s speaking as well as others. issue, unite, promote rights nor women, the lgbtq community, people are color, people with disabilities and immigrants. the new president's name does not appear in the mission statement for today, but opposition president trump appears to be what's uniting the participants. >> we're really coming to washington to say, listen, not on our watch. it won't happen. we won't roll back our rights. you will not oppress us and we will stand up. >> there are an estimated 673 sister marches happening around the world today with more than 2

million sister marchers participating. there are also are marches happening today in the bay area. in san jose, three hours from now at 10:00 a.m., marchers go from san jose city hall to cesar chavez plaza. in oakland also at 10:00 a.m., people march from ninth and madison to the franco plaza and 3:00 p.m., rally at civic center plaza followed by a candlelight march down to justin herman plaza. it's been nearly 24 hours since donald trump was sworn in as the nation's 45th president. he and his family spent their first night in the white house last night. yesterday was a day of contrasting emotions. there were celebrations inside, of course, and angry protests outside. ♪ i did it my way >> well, president trump and first lady melania celebrated in traditional fashion last night as a series of inauguration balls.

meanwhile, several protests erupted across the country including this one in miami where police were able to stop a group from blocking a freeway entirely. this one in chicago right outside of a trump hotel. demonstrators marched and held signs and chanted "not my president." earlier yesterday president trump signed his first executive orders in his presidency including an order allowing states to waive penalties for not signing up for the affordable care act. this as congress works on repealing the health care law mown, of course, as obamacare. >> preserve, protect and defend. >> preserve, protect and defend. >> the constitution of the united states. >> the constitution of the united states. >> so help me god. >> so help me god. >> during his inaugural speech, president trump repeated his campaign theme of being an outsider, promising to take power from politicians and give it to the people, and vowing to quickly reverse poverty, crime, factory closings and bad

[ applause ] >> as for president obama, we have video of the former first family's motorcade arriving last night into rancho mirage, just outside of palm springs. the obama will spend their first post-presidential vacation there. you see a line of people cheering as they drove by, though the obama trip hit a bit

of a snag. diverted because of storms in the areainstead they simply touched down in riverside about 50 miles west. well from cheering in the desert to, for the former president, to protesting in san francisco and oakland for the new president, a day of demonstrations continued well into the night. protests all aimed at a commander in chief who demonstrators say doesn't command their respect. in oakland, three people were arrested during last night's general strike against donald trump, as some 200 people marched through downtown. police did out-number protestors. some say the stormy weather kept more people away. >> we feel that the american people need a place to mourn the dashing of their hopes for the progress in this country. >> the promises that were made in our youth are not being kept, and america's no longer the same america it used to be. >> for the first time in oakland, a coalition of attorneys marched with protestors. they say they wanted to make sure people's rights were being

protected in the event anyone was arrested. spray painted "3-plus hours" on a towel, held it up telling other drivers to exit immediately. >> try and help people not go through the brain damage i did. >> we are also told three buses full of high schoolers were stuck there well into the night. authorities at the port of oakland say terminals will be back opened today. this after an inauguration-related work stoppage yesterday. workers didn't show up and that forced the port to close down. sources at the port say some members of the international long shore and warehouse union stayed hole. all to send a message about donald trumpal inauguration. in the past, some members have said, "donald trump is not the solution to america's problems. he is the problem." now to new details in the death everybody over lefty o'dool's restaurant in san francisco. we told you last week the restaurant and bar is closing down, but now there's a lawsuit over what's inside. the people who are managing the

saturday morning pap live look outside. 580 and dublin, slick roads, cars headed out on this dark saturday morning. vianey arana is coming along in a few moments to tell us about the third storm expected to hit tonight and the bay area is under a flash flood watch until tomorrow. speaking of flooding, dozens of people living in hollister forced from their homes once again because of major flooding. this is happening on lover's lane when it's pacheco creek is overflowing and flooding the streets. a levee there broke for the second time in two weeks. 21 people had to be rescued along with dozens of farm animals. the county has since declared a local emergency. >> we're a little frustrated we have not had any response from the governor's office. zero response from the state that has been helpful with financial resources and we need to get somebody to come down here, acknowledge there is a problem. we understand there are problems elsewhere in the state but we are a small county that's rural. limited resources and need them to help us as soon as possible.

row? >> yes. that's coming in tonight. we're still seeing scattered showers ahead of the arrival of that third storm, which is a very strong cold front bringing with it strong, gusty winds. that is going to raise major concerns as we head into the late hours and, of course, overnight into sunday morning. now, right now 40s for the south bay peninsula. expected to climb into the 50s for today and you may notice dark skies and scattered showers expected to stick around through the majority of the day. these scattered showers will have periods of moderate to heavy rainfall heading into tonight. a live look now at the doppler radar as you begin to see a lot of cells pushing through overnight we saw strong, of course, rainfall out and ponding water on the roadways. remember, if you see areas of heavy roadway flooding, please, don't try to drive through it. just avoid it entirely. oakland was seeing showers. san francisco, now seeing a lot of these cells kind of move out of the area. san jose also saw some showers

and that cell is now moving east. but we aren't in the clear. that third storm is expected to make its arrival over the next couple of hours and there is currently a flash flood watch in effect until sunday afternoon for the entire san francisco coast and central coast and what this means is that there is a threat of flooding along roadways. urban areas and small streams as well. we're also under a flood warning until monday afternoon for northwest san benito due to unfortunately pacheco creek and gilroy and hollister area that's already suffered from a lot of flooding is expected to remain under that flood warning overnight as we begin to see more rain totals add up into tonight and tomorrow. so if you are in this area, just make sure you get your sandbags ready ahead of the storm tonight. we're also seeing a high surf warning until 3:00 a.m. sunday. this actually did get extended. originally set to expire tonight at 4:00, but it did get extended. we're expecting a large breaking of waves, strong rip currents

and dangerous waves up to 24 feet into the early afternoon hours. now, another issue going into tonight is going to be those strong winds. right now, wind gusts are coming in at about 17 miles per hour from the western, southwesterly winds. if we look ahead into tonight and also into the overnight hours, we're expecting a chance of a possibility of seeing anywhere between 30, 40, to 50-plus miles per hour. check this out. by midnight, half moon bay, 53 miles per hour. san francisco, 37 miles per hour and out in the north bay, santa rosa, about 41 miles per hour. this, of course, could have potential to have damaging wind gusts. patio furniture, anything that needs tied down, do that ahead of tonight when we're expecting to see that high-wind warning take in effect until tomorrow. now, here's a look at what you can expect. by saturday, those showers increase late into tonight. storm number three arrives overnight into early sunday

morning. bringing with it some strong, gusty winds. looking ahead at about 10:30 on saturday, look at this. the santa cruz mountains expecting to see heavy downpours as early as 10:00. fast-forward through midnight and 1:00 a.m., santa rosa, napa area, also in the santa cruz mountains creating a bull's-eye near the area. 3:00 to 4:00 a.m., majority of storms pass to the south bay, san jose expecting showers, meaning if you're waking up for an early morning commute tomorrow expect to see a lot of that heavy ponding water. fast-forward through sunday afternoon, about 8:00, we start seeing majority of that storm clear out. behind it we do have a few straggling storm cells expecting to carry a few showers into monday possibly even into tuesday. rain estimate totals, highest totals expected for the north bay and the reservoir already at 100% capacity at the current moment. into tonight, expect anywhere between two to three inches possible in the santa cruz

compassion without borders christie and her team including her husband, rescued more than 1,500 chihuahuas. >> hi, gorgeous. >> reporter: their secret? the law of supply and demand. >> supply and demand is good paradigm. with real estate, it's location, location, location. right? >> reporter: here's the deal. when you vis the an animal shelter in central california, one breed you see a lot of. >> a lot of chihuahuas. >> yeah. [ laughter ] way too many chihuahuas. >> reporter: but, from one of christie's board members, she learned it's just about the opposite in of all places, minnesota. >> from that area and a veterinarian. worked at the shelter and she new firsthand there was a shortage of small dogs. >> reporter: it's a situation christie had seen before. before becoming a vet, she had volunteered at a shelter in mexico city.

thousands of dogs with no hope of adoption locally. >> i mean, that's the choice you have. right? it's either completely overwhelmed, or to do the one thing you can do, and so the one thing i could do was to start to rescue animals out of there. >> reporter: so she started finding them homes in northern california, and compassion without border was born. on this trip alone, 50 dogs were lucky enough to be chosen, driven to san francisco, prepped for flights and sent off to their new homes. with hopefully more destinations to come. in addition to the 1,500 chihuahuas saved by sending them to minnesota, christie kept up a relationship with shelters in mexico, and over the years, they've saved more than 2,000 dogs there. garvin thomas, nbc bay area news. we have much more ahead on "today in the bay" coming up.

heavy downpours. still looking at wet roadways. a live look over dublin. 46 degrees. making our way to emeryville seeing wet roadways. 51 degrees. the temps remain in the 50s for the majority of the day ahead of this strong cold front that will be pushing through tonight. there's a live look right now at that doppler radar. you can see a lot of those storm cells have, the larger ones, anyway, pushed through overnight but we're expecting another round tonight. here's a look right now. in the fremont area, still seeing showers also out of your san mateo and areas of san rafael expecting to see showers over the next 24 hours, keep a close eye on a flash flood watch in effect until sunday's evening for the san francisco coast and the entire central coast, which mean there's is a chance of flooded roadways and, of course, a flood warning will also remain in effect until monday for southeastern santa clara county and including pacheco creek and

kira/cu much more ahead on today he and a very wet start across the bay area. yet again under a microclimate weather alert. a live look over dublin. still seeing a sfu scattered showers showing storm cells pushing through. a like look over san jose. temps remain in the 50s majority of the day. mostly cloudy skies seen over san francisco. live look right now, 49 degrees. go ahead and get right to it. our doppler radar now showing a series of those cells that did make their way in overnight bringing heavy downpours and, of course, causing ponding along the roadways on all major highways as well. please remember to avoid, if possible, and don't try to drive through any of those areas. now, right now san francisco, we did see that cell move over, and it is continuing to track east. which means livermore is still seeing showers and areas of the

half moon bay also saw showers. san francisco now catching a slight break ahead of the third storm that will make its way in tonight. which means we're under a flash flood watch until sunday afternoon for the entire san francisco coast and central coast and this brings up potential for flooding in urban areas. also under a flood warning for santa clara county for areas near gilroy, hollister and pacheco creek and keep a close eye, the exact same area that has been flooded from last week's storm and also i know a lot of folks had to be rescued. if you can, avoid the area. get your sandbags ready. it may be set up for tonight as we prepare to see these high surf warnings that have been extended as well. thanks to an increasing swell that could cafe anywhere from 24 to 30-plus foot waves. causing a swell, which could bring strong rip currents and it

has been extended until 3:00 a.m. sunday. estimated wind gusts coming in from the west, about 17 miles per hour. passing over the next couple hours, a high-wind warning issued to take effect tonight at 10:00 p.m. through 10:00 a.m. on sunday. this is why. look at these strong wind gusts as about midnight, half moon bay, 53 miles per hour. san francisco, 37. 29 and potential for damaging winds. redwood city, 43 miles per hour with a chance of seeing gusts that could hit 60-plus miles per hour. this may be your chance now. go ahead and do it. tie down anything that has a potential to fly away and get ready, because tonight and overnight you're going to hear those howling winds into the early sunday morning hours. now, thankfully by sunday at about 7:30, the winds begin to calm down as that cold front pushes east, and oesh the next couple hours a look at what you can expect. 6:30, expecting to see another band of showers for the point reyes, napa area. san francisco, and san mateo,

at 7:51, we are giving you a live look outside on this saturday morning. gloomy skies over oakland ahead of the third storm that will hit tonight. vianey arana says winds up to 50 miles per hour could hit us overnight. the near constant rain over the past week has done more than $9 million in damage and that's just in contra costa alone. the series of storms led to widespread flooding, mudslides, sinkholes and property damage. it prompted county officials to declare a local emergency so that they can apply for state disaster funds to help the county. and with more wet weather moving in tonight, crews face major challenges ahead. >> we can't really get out there and do repairs. so right now we're just trying to keep the roads safe. and where we have to do closures we're doing closures and that's really for public safety.

>> the most significant storm damage happened here on this road where the entire roadway collapsed. look at that. repairs are estimated at $3 million alone for that, and it could take up to a year before the road reopens. now to recovering from breast cancer. an emotional and difficult process. especially for women also facing breast reconstruction. now new technology developed right here in silicon valley is giving women control over that recovery, and helping them prepare for the next surgery.
