overwhelming campaign promise. tweeting late last night, big day planned on national security. among many other things, we will build the wall. nbc news can report the president is expected to sign an executive order directing federal funds to be shifted towards starting that process of building the border wall. the very same one that served as a rallying cry for the candidate throughout trump's entire campaign. they say president trump will enforce mexico to ultimately pay for that wall. the president will head to the department of homeland security today to sign the order and it comes weeks before he meets with his mexican counter part. whether today's move is more than just opticsi or following through with a campaign promise remains to be seen. >> trump would invoke through a bush era law, the secure fence act of 2006. a law that was backed in congress by then senators barack obama and hillary clinton. for 2006 fact sheet the law was

signed by bush to towards comprehensive immigration reform, something trump has been against. and "the new york times" reports today's border order is just one in a series of actions to quote crack down on immigrants including slashing the number of immigrants to settle in the u.s. and blocking syrians and others from entering temporarily. mr. trump plans on taking action against sanctuary sites, locations that adopted policies to protect undocumented immigrants. they targeted one such city in this late-night tweet. he tweeted if chicago doesn't fix the horrible carnage going up i will send in the feds. >> that wasn't the president's only evening post as he praised one cable news channel and bashed its competitor for their inauguration coverage. tweeting congratulations to fox

president trump has been busy tweeting in the last few minutes. first up, the commander-in-chief says he will ask for a major investigation into voter fraud, this on the heels of his comments that he believes three to five million illegal votes were cast. and president trump just added that he will be making his supreme court pick on thursday of next week. and now for news developing out of somalia. several people have been killed in the state capital of mogadishu. this car bomb went off after militants rammed it into the gate of a hotel popular with officials. police caution the death toll could rise as this blast was one of two that went off in the area. keep it here on nbc news and we'll bring you more details as we get them. . developing overnight, a massive sink hole opened up outside of
