it's just about clear now. northbound 101 saw the first burst. that's an easy friday drive. highway 17 moves well south and north both directions south of the summit. we had the closure yesterday. we will talk more about that right after my report and what's the latest. of here looks great through the east bay for 238. just the volume coming off the valley. no major surprises there. nice, easy blow of traffic. a developing story we continue to follow where

authorities are still searching for a bank robber. he he evaded officers yesterday that prompted a manhunt in the santa cruz mountains. the chase started yesterday just before 11:00 a.m. after he robbed a bank of america. at one point it led to a lock swroupb. there was no movement on highway 17 as traffic was stopped in both directions. after reportedly firing shots at officers, the robber abandoned his car along highway 17 is and took off into the woods after he had hit several cars. after they cleared that area, another flurry of activity overnight. they reported finding someone in their home wielding a knife. deputies believe it is the same person who robbed the bank. he changed clothes, proceeded to steal her van, ditched in the

mountains, and continued to flee on foot. it backed up traffic well into the evening. as the story continues to develop, we are constantly updating our facebook and twitter feeds at nbcbayarea.com. kris sanchez investigating this morning. she'll join us with a live report in our next half hour. a long-awaited project on suicide barriers on the golden gate bridge is expected to take a step forward this morning as we take a live look outside at the bridge. we are discovering just how much it can impact traffic. pete suratos is live with details. pete, it looks like another cost is going to be added to all of this. good morning. >> reporter: yeah, good morning to you, sam. yeah, there could be an additional cost when the board of directors meet later this morning. it $2 million to manage traffic because the suicide barriers process could take up to four years.

the costs have doubled since the project was approved. good news, most of this construction won't take place overnight. but the $2 million will be used by chp. according to the foundation that keeps stats on suicide attempts on the golden gate bridge, they said more than 1,600 have taken place since its inception back in the '30s. there needs to be approval by the board of directors later this morning. during that board meeting that is supposed to take place at 10:00 a.m. pete suratos, today in the bay. thank you so much. what a back drop behind you. interstate 580 in dublin, all lanes are back open following major problems. a big rig fire last night and all the are residual backup

the area of the home might have captured video of her possible killer. the sheriff's office released a still image that shows a man that is a person of and in the murder of andrea st. john. the picture is not great. it is grainy. after they watched the entire video, this person does lean to one side. they are associated with a 2013 corolla similar to the one on your tv screen. the video helped to establish a timeline for the murder of st. john. this person is and his car were seen near the crime scene late were monday night or early tuesday morning, december 12th or 13th of last year. the same time they found st. john dead in her home in castro sraefplt her house set on fire in an attempt to cover up the murder evidence.

is his name, robbed check cashing stores and pharmacies over a three-week period that ended mid-january. each of those cases, he handed off a note demanding money or narcotics. san francisco police are investigating an armed robbery wednesday as a possible hate crime. 20-year-old woman walking in the financial district when three people approached her and made racial remarks. one pulled out a knife and demanded her cell phone. 6:37 right now, a march and vigil is being planned tomorrow for a man shot by vallejo police officers. officers shot and killed 21-year-old ramos early monday morning when they responsibled to a fight at a house party he was holding a knife and attacking a 16-year-old boy when officers arrived. ramos's family said he was defending his brother during the fight and police did not have to shoot.

not a lot going on in the san mateo bridge. >> thank you, kari and mike. quarter to 7:00. niles canyon road will be shut down as crews recover the body of a teenager who crashed into the creek a week ago. it careened off the road after hitting another car. the rushing water kept crews away. another car crashed into the creek earlier this week we brought you that as breaking news yesterday. that driver is said to be doing okay. a chp helicopter crew released video of what turned out to be a very busy wednesday. they made two rescues, including a parra glider. the glider suffered nonlife threatening injuries there.
