as we fight through another dayy area. this is a live look at the golden gate bridge (ad lib)... a microclimate weather alert as we fight through another day of rain in the bay area. this is the golden gate bridge. plenty of water on the roads. steady downpours continue. a mess on highway 17 in the santa cruz mountains. rock slides shut down traffic in both directions yesterday.

very good wednesday morning to you. thank you for joining us. i'm sam brock. >> lighter rain still causing problems out there, especially in the north bay. another rain moving into the peninsula as well. so dealing with a lot more of this residual moisture still rolling in behind the heavier rain that we have yesterday. and now as we get a look at our stormranger, our mobile doppler radar, the san bruno mountain. still picking up on a lot of green on the map. head to the north bay, santa rosa, we see pockets of yellow, heading towards calistoga indicating heavier rain. rain moving through guerneville. an area we will watch as the russian river crests. vacaville, still rain coming down. spotty showers for san francisco

through the peninsula. and this is what we can expect as we go through the day. we'll talk more about this and look at what else we expect for the afternoon. in the north bay, we have this closure. both directions of highway 37. closed between atherton and 101. four times before. it is the cut through for folks between 37 and 101. the flooding there and throughout santa rosa, city streets. be careful in that area. westbound 580. this happened last storm as well. a big pothole out of the altamonte pass. they closed a couple lanes.

we'll track that as well. and the continuing saga. highway 17, traffic control. we know what happened weeks ago. i hope you have better news. >> today in the bay bob redeal from highway 17. >> a continuing saga. we have seen mudslides wreaking havoc for commuters. good morning. good morning to you, sam and laura. behind us where the white lights are at, that is the location of the mudslide blocking northbound highway 17, which is still shut down. you should be able to see that sloping from the right top part of your screen down to the left side. it was yesterday covering both lanes. now it is only covering the right lane of the northbound direction. so there has been progress that has been made. they've also -- caltrans turned southbound highway 17 into a two-way highway so people can still get up and down the

mountain. yesterday a mountain of mud, rock, trees and debris spilled onto northbound 17 here between sugarloaf and vine hill road. it caused the vehicle to roll over. that driver is okay. this is the same spot where another slide was last month. workers must be careful not to remove too much from the bottom. otherwise the material on the top can come sliding down. they ordered a piece of equipment called the spider to remove debris at the top of the slide. >> this is kind of a separate arm that can kind of hold out and climb up. >> sit horrifying. we had a bus full of kids two hours before this landslide. it could have been all of our children in that accident there.

we open northbound highway 17. northbound direction shut down. you can see the southbound highway. they have turned it into a two-lane highway to deal with this in convenience right now. for your morning commute, if you're coming from santa cruz into the valley, you do have access. it will just be down to one lane. if you find this is too much, the alternate before they reopen, highway 29 all the way down to vacaville is probably your best bet. bob redell, today in the bay. >> doing the best they can to get people through. thank you very much. 4:35. other things on the road besides mudslides. this is a tree down in danville. the large tree blocked a lane and closed things down. crews are rushing to try to get the damage cleaned up. it is close indeed both directio

directions. pg&e say 200 people lost power. the roads should be open 6:00 this morning. take a look at that. this incredible video was sent to our newsroom last night. no one was hurt. but a family without a place to stay this morning. the mudslide in napa might take up to a week to clean up the napa river is dropping. it closed part of memorial park. >> you can safely capture what

a teenager accused of killing maddy millingtddleton i scheduled in security. he beat and sexually assaulted an 8-year-old neighbor and dumped her body in a recycling bin. if convicted he could face life in prison. >> the river that is commanding attention. >> still watching the russian river at guerneville and all the others rivers and creeks have crested. still tracking light showers this morning. more in the microclimate forecast. we're looking at the bay bridge toll plaza which is still wet. we have flooding reported around the bay. we are getting that monster of a mudslide. bob redell is watching that.

morning. ed russian river will crest. other rivers have been below flood stage but may rise again. details coming up in five minutes. looking at horrible travel times for westbound 580. of altamonte pass. all the traffic is held up because of what's going on on greenville road. repair work. >> mike following pothole repair. we told you about a tree in danville. this played out in saratoga. trees were brought down by heavy rains and winds. this happened near pierson pike road not far from the mountain winery. luckily nobody was hurt. the power, though, was knocked out several hours. >> a lot of damage there.

everything back to as normal as it could be for now by midday. >> it is is one we always continue to cover. >> unfortunately it is not all done yet. we may see some more issues. we like the light and steady rain. especially for the north bay. south bay getting a chance to dry out. drivers still hitting puddles left over from early morning rain. a live look at san francisco. you can see the low clouds rolling on by. and in fremont we have wet roads as well. although the heaviest rain has taken a break. still seeing spotty light showers for areas south of san francisco. north of san francisco, still a pretty good rate of rain coming down. we still have mobile doppler radar giving us a detailed view of what's happening out there. we still see showers in santa

rosa, calistoga. a steady downpour, pockets of heavier rain from petaluma. 101 very wet coming down the north bay. san rafael seeing some of the showers moving through. salsalito, still raining. these areas do not need any of this. a break farther south where we are not seeing as much of a downpours down the peninsula. it is still raining and heading toward more of the south bay where we have seen a break in the showers. this is more of a light rain. we will see it picking up, ming into tomorrow morning. going hour by hour, still seeing spotty light showers. this will be our chance to kind of see the river levels dropping, a chance to dry out. and more heavy rain tomorrow morning between 7:00 and 9:00 during that main morning

commute, heavy rain rolling from north to south as we will get all of this moving out ahead of a cold front. there will be a couple more waves between thursday and friday. as far as how much rain we will see, another inch of rain. over to the east bay. an inch and a quarter to two inches of rain. santa cruz mountains may see two and a half inches of rain. we turn our attention to the sierra. looking at least three to four inches of rain. there may be spots getting five inches of rain. temperatures are way too warm. winds will start to pick up later tonight coming from the southwest. 25 miles per hour pigging up 30 to 40 along the coastline. so this is where we may have more downed trees, tomorrow morning, early afternoon. you can see the atmospheric

river still connecting of the bay area. follow me on facebook and twitter. we have been talking about the forecast. dryer air moving in. a lot of sunshine. and temperatures in the 60s. a number of problems on the roads. >> lighter rain in the north bay. we still have local flooding up there. we have other roadways boeing repaired or trying to be cleared before the next rain moves in. the pluck of the commute around the bay. inner bay moves just fine. no major problems there. we continue to talk about the closure. both directions of highway 37. low lying roadway flooding. locals are getting tired of that. folks traveling to and from vallejo. that is a tough drive. two right lanes blocked.

we saw pictures of kayaks yesterday. another little peek into tomorrow. today is a break from the heavy rain. still going to see showers moving through. as we take a look at the radar, you see we are still tracking a lot of green here on the map. and stormranger, our mobile doppler radar truck is parked on san bruno mountain, scanning around the bay area, showing a lot of rain in spots that don't need it at this point like guerneville and windsor as well as santa rosa, calistoga. all of these areas still seeing the rain this morning, towards napa county and also for spots like vacaville. still tracking more of the rounds of rain moving in. this will be lighter compared to what we have had recently.
