>> right now at 6:00, we are in a microclimate weather alert. team coverage tracking a powerful storm moving into the bay area right now. >> a lot of green on the radar covering the whole north bay and moving into san francisco as well as parts of the far northern east bay as well. we will talk about the timeline and what to expect as the rain gets heavier coming up. the levels of the russian river are trending down. as you guys can see here, the middle of the stream, some areas are still flooding. i'll have the latest on the conditions. pete getting his feet wet out there. in the meantime, crews still working around the clock trying to clean up a mudslide snarling the commute in the santa cruz mountains. it could be self more days before all of that is up. today in the bay continues right now. what a test it has been to get to and from work. we are watching right now. more storm activity.

we're in another microclimate weather alert. tracking the rain. it is hitting parts of the north bay. it will move to the rest of the bay area later today. >> live team coverage as we are monitoring rising creek and river levels as well as the potential for mudslides. our crews scattered across the bay area to make sure you are prepared. good morning to you. thanks so much for joining us. >> i'm sam brock. we have all hands on deck here as we track the storm. more than 50 schools already.

the rain is coming down bow degas bay, santa rosa, with pockets of heavy rain. we are starting to see it reaching marin county. and it will get heavier around san rafael within the next few minutes. across the richmond, san rafael bridge, it is looking quite wet. we will likely see more issues on the roadways. now head over to mike. rain adding problems for two highways. >> two highways. and also the airs. kari got word that the latest update flights three-hour delays. check the status of that flight and continue to check with us on our app and on air. looking at most of our roadways which are looking great. two areas of major concerns, highway 17, that's the one to the south. it is still open. the mudslide is still blocking the northbound lanes. traffic flowing in both directions on the southbound side. that lane shift between granite

creek and vine hill shows south summit. traffic is accessing both sides. but this will be a continued delay throughout the weekend likely. we have a crash in sinole. i'm falling that around the 84 interchange. the other vehicles are out of the roadway. back up to the other concern. this is highway 37. this roadway had been flood as it has been the last few storms. they haven't cleared it yet. the rain is coming in. you see the green highlighting showing the wet road weather. it will be a problem for at least highway 37. there's so much more going on in the north bay. >> there's been so much rain. now the flooding. especially for people along the russian river in sonoma county. it is expected to reach flood stage later tonight. >> pete suratos is in guerneville. they are monitoring the river level there. highway 16. what do the conditions look like.

the lower parts of guerneville and also in the rv park, we had a chance to talk to people and say they are used to flooding conditions but have different takes on the situation. >> it's taking a risk, yeah. but it is taking a greater risk with this thing. >> the current flood is not so bad. >> this has been more of the landslides and downed trees that caused more trouble the actual level of the river. so the current river levels

are roughly at about 32 feet. it is expected to trend down to 29 feet this evening. it is going to pick right back up tomorrow morning. pete suratos for today in the bay. thank you so much, pete. now we want to take you live to the santa cruz mountains right now. mudslides and washed out roads and major problem for people in that area. crews are race to go clean up before the next round of storms. an update when highway 17 should reopen. caltrans crews are work to go break up and clear out this mudslide from tuesday. right now only one lane is open in every direction. it isn't expected to fully reopen now until monday. thousands of commuters are affected. but it isn't the only area having problems. take a look. tuesday night a van almost vanished into a sinkhole on skyland road. the driver is okay, but the road is still closed. no estimate for when it will be back open. >> just a bit too close for comfort there. 6:05. it is smooth sailing for

commuters who are traveling westbound 580 through livermore. all lanes fully cleared just before 11:00. now, it wasn't so smooth when a huge pothole appeared in the right-hand lane. workers trying to clear it up and patch it up. a dozen cars were damaged when drivers hit it. rainy weather has been the culprit. our free nbc bay area app. click on the weather tab to access live doppler radar on your phone. 6:06. new details about the deadly officer-involved shoot anything fremont. police say 45-year-old nana amoco wouldn't sit on the curb.

he refused and a struggled ensued. the officer released his canine which accidentally bit the officer. fearing for his life, the officer shot adommacko three times, killing him. the teenager told investigators two men took her from her home, forced her to walk a mile and a half, and then made her get into a car. investigators say the kidnappers drove her to san jose where she managed to escape. >> we take these things very seriously. a kidnapping case, until we prove otherwise, we take this a very intense investigation. all our detectives are working on this case. >> we are told it was a small light colored sedan with a possibly mystery spot bumper sticker. 6:07. on your left, a live look at the conditions on the golden gate bridge. not a lot of traffic through

there now, but it is wet. look at why. kari hall is tracking the timeline and the rain. kari? >> we come up on 6:08. we are starting to see the radar filling in. this is a look at the timeline of what to expect as we go through the day. at 7:00, a lot of yellows and reds in the north bay. that's where it will be getting really intense with gusty winds and heavy rain. it will be raining heavily in san francisco over towards oakland. but then the brunt of the storm moving farther south through the peninsula and the east by 9:00. south bay will see that rain between 10 and 11:00 and gettingier as we go through the day. by 2:00, it's still raining. it will be getting lighter in the north bay. that's where we will start to catch a little bit of a break. but the south bay will be in with the brunt of the storm through the evening commute and still raining later tonight before it all wraps up.

state line as well. >> oh, boy. this has been a problem regionally. a close eye on conditions at home. we take a beautiful look at the san francisco skyline. all the different colored lights. another round of rain, though, is going to being our camera lenses all over the bay area, including san francisco. >> it's been washing everything off. we are not washing a car these days. you will be able to get your car wash ed saturday. tomorrow, spotty showers moving in. we are getting the brunt of the storm with this first cold front moving through. then a second one for tomorrow. we are looking at wet weather. it is getting more intense for the north bay. with more yellows and reds with heavier rain for marin county. as we go from north to south, you are pretty much seeing an even coverage across sonoma county. this morning wet roads. but then the heaviest rain is now moving through novato and san rafael.

mill valley as well. extending close to napa. expect rain to get heavier there in the next few minutes. tiburon, a steady downpour. moving into san francisco. the additional rainfall totals will reach another inch for most of us. looking at for the san jose area, possibly close to an inch of rain, especially we see this activity getting going later on today. looking at all this rain rolling in, the timeline once again, the rain moving north to south and seeing it in the south bay the next four hours. looking at all of this. i have been tweeting updates on the drought monitor. the raoeufr stagiver stages. if you see anything happening, make sure you send me a picture or report from your rain gauge. keeping an eye on area river levels. for more on that, let's head over to vianey with what it looks like at the guadalupe

river. >> reporter: good morning, kari. and i'm right below right near the guadalupe along 101. they haven't closed this area off. if you pay attention, this is the bike trail. the water is already pretty high. now according to the website, we are expecting this area to reach at about 14.4 feet, which is right below monitor stage. also, guadalupe along alma denned to hit 9.1 feet. and flothis is expected to stay below monitor stage. along mount helena, we are expecting the area to flood. the flood stage is 16 feet. as you can tell, it is still rushing pretty strong out here.

be careful out here. try to keep the safe distance. we'll keep you up to date with all the latest rivers. more rivers and the flood stages and more information coming up in a bit. mike, over to you. how is it looking on the roads? >> vianey, i think you're plenty close enough to the river. be careful. stay off the sidewalk, which is no longer a sidewalk. over here, the roadways are looking pretty well. 580 has cleared up after yesterday's dramatic pothole repair work going on until late last night. all westbound lanes are clear. restrictions for highway 17 from granite creek to vine hill. so a little farther south than you saw yesterday. this will not be good news for the mudslide. that will be there possibly until monday. hopefully they will by then. we talk about the tri-valley.

service he never got for years. >> chris chmura joins us. >> roger nelson said he upgrated to high definition back in 2009. this entailed paying an extra $10 a month for hd services. summer when a directv technician came to fix a signal problem, the tech said he wasn't getting an hd signal and never had been. roger said he had been paying $10 a month for an hd signal for 97 months. so he asked directv for a $970 refund. but he said directv was only willing to credit his account $180. roger stood his ground, insisting $180 wasn't fair. so he reached out to us. we contacted directv and asked some questions. the same questions roger asked. ultimately, he received a $970 credit to his account. in a statement we received from

we have a lot of school closures. 50 so far. the pluck of them are concentrated in marin county. >> it seems like people are having to adjust their lives, their morning routes to work. here we are, another storm. >> you have to adjust the window wipers too. it is coming down in the north bay. it is heavy through marin county, into san francisco. so we are starting to see a lot more yellows here on the radar indicating heavier rain. it's also moving into bow degas bay, approaching within the next 30 minutes. mill valley and over towards sono sonoma, napa, heavy rain coming down at this point. we are starting to see it getting more intense with breezy winds through tiburon, richmond, berkeley as well.

long. this is a mudslide that's been here since tuesday. what they have done, caltrans and chp, is the southbound direction they have turned into a two-lane highway between vine hill and sugarloaf roads in scotts valley. so you have traffic moving in both directions. just in the southbound direction. caltrans called in a spider excavator that was able to climb that mudslide and start removal of the mud and the debris from the top of the pile to avoid the fact that if you started the bottom and keep coming on top of the workers. they do have that piece of equipment in there. the mudslide came off the side of an embankment tuesday afternoon covering both lanes of the northbound direction. knocked over a passing vehicle. that driver is okay. travel has been dangerous on the smaller, narrower windy roads that run through the santa cruz mountains. the driver of the blue van. take a look at this video here.

he was returning from the store to buy candles when they nose dived into a 15 feet deep sinkhole. remarkably the driver was unhurt, able to get out okay. >> this was a flat, you know, no stream going under here. i don't believe there was a culvert or anything. >> there's no estimated time when skyland will be repairs. fortunately, there is another work around, another on road people in that area can get in and out of. bob redell, today in the bay. thank you, bob. 6:36 right now. quick thinking from a woman whose home was hit by a mudslide near los gatos.

she used facebook live to call for help. >> everything got washed away with mud. >> no word yet if they can even salvage their home. >> quite the ordeal there. >> all right. concerns about flooding along the san lorenzo river. it flooded its banks earlier in the week. it could get worse as the next round hits. kris, what are you seeing? >> reporter: well, we're definitely hearing the river. it's very loud. it is rushing very fast. and the water is very muddy. is to hit two feet below flood stage today. two days ago it was six feet above flood stage. that is considered a major flood. the video is just unbelievable of the san lorenzo river flowing at 23 and a half feet.

home park moved to higher ground. it is expected to reach flood stage again late tonight. well, any day now, maybe any hour now, president trump and folks around the world are watching san francisco very closely today as we could finally get a decision on the president's travel ban. the ninth circuit court of appeals is expected to make its ruling very soon. president trump has publicly questioned the judges and called them so-called judges, hoping they will reinstate his immigration ban. neil gorsuch said the president's criticism is disheartening and deizing. that reaction came after president trump criticized the federal judges presiding over the case. more from capitol hill right now. snow in new york. our microclimate weather alert. the north bay already seeing some of this latest storm which is expected to spread throughout the bay area as the day progresses. >> vianey tracking river levels. let's get a check of what's happening now with kari hall. >> good morning. we are tracking heavy rain already starting to move in from san francisco into the north bay. and now starting to roll into the peninsula and parts of the east bay as well. so starting to get a little bit more coverage here with bright reds and yellows and showing the pockets of heavier rain moving into marin county. as we work our way north to south, you see good coverage of the rain. some of the heavier downpours in guerneville. we are watching for flooding near the russian river where it continues to flood. and also for the napa river at st. helena, we are under a flood warning there.

as heavier rain moves in, water levels will be going up. a lot of heavy rain moving on shore for marin county to san rafa rafael, extending to sonoma and napa. we are seeing a lot of yellows on the map. we are tracking some of the rain i that continues to move closer to richmond. berkeley, you are starting to see sloppy, wet conditions on the roadways. and a steady rain in san francisco that will get a little bit heavier moving down the peninsula, pacifica, as well as san mateo. starting to see that rain moving in. alameda creek, niles canyon expected to flood throughout the day. guadalupe at 101. it will be just below the monitor stage 14.4 feet. alma den spraes way at 10:00 will be rising based on the current rainfall expectancy. and for the napa river, st. helena, that will be above flood

stage. a flood warning is in effect. it will be rising into the highest level at 8:00 tonight. if we do see heavier rainfall there, you will need to keep a close eye on it. now it is expected to stage below flood stage. i have been tweeting out some of the river levels and the forecast which improves as we head into the weekend. now looking at dryer weather and highs reaching into the upper 50s. and it will be a much needed break with warming temperatures into next week. mike is tracking a mudslide on highway 17. -- we have the microphone now? there we go. we're good now. we had a little problem in the audio but not the roadways. not until the south bay towards highway 17. that rain will not completely wash away the mud.
