>> did it? >> we were slowed down by lingering showers. >> fog and more rain as we go through the day. as we get a look what's happening around the bay area, stepping out the door and everything still soggy. still showing rain to the north of us. and the last couple of spokes of this system spinning through the bay area. it could bring another round of a few isolated thunderstorms. looking at the rain through the south bay, peninsula, san francisco, and more spotty showers for the north bay. we'll talk about the timeline and the rest of the rain coming up in six minutes. heading over to mike, more reports of mudslide and trees and wires down. >> that's right. as the morning continues, we may get more and more reports of road work. that will be a busy friday for me as well as you. so far traffic flows relatively

smoothly. issues for highway 17, one tragic. an update in just a minute. more developments on the roadways. highway 84 at highway 35. we know the wires were down from time to time. the latest trees and wires down. and there is a closure on highway 84 for a good stretch south of highway 85. it will be a problem traveling between highway 35. we just learned highway 1 a tree that is down. it is so large that the fire crew can't take care of it. they need another crew to come saw it. that is a good distance south of half moon bay. up to highway 92 and the freeway instead of 84, 86. more on the roads. now back to you. >> more efforts to clear up the tree. the rain moving out for the most part. much of the bay area remains under water. back-to-back storms leaving a lasting impact. >> kris sanchez live in san jose

where the creek there overflowed, flooding streets overnight. good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning to you, sam and laura. this runs right through the neighborhood here in san jose. we're on one side of the creek. to give you a perspective how wide it is rushing right now, the city crews are on the other side. this will mean traffic detours for folks who live in the area. you can see the rushing water that spilled over just before midnight last night. the creek is flowing over mabry road. part of the road is closed. city crews are on scene there. this is one direction near educational park drive. this is a developing story as it happened just around midnight. we are trying to figure out how far out city crews are blocking the roadway. they are waiting for floodwaters to run their course. we did see a sump pump out here. they don't appear to be pumping anything. it is a sight to see. this is a popular walking and

cycling trail. if you are coming out, you might want to watch from a safety distance because the waters are swift. we know the creek is part of a capital improvement plan from the water district. we will tell you where that plan stands and what this means for that coming up in our next hit at 5:30. kris, thank you so much. 4:34 right now. the aftermath continues to take a toll on commuters. highway 17 is still partially shut down after a mudslide there. now, the cleanup effort took a tragic and deadly turn yesterday. this morning friends, family, co-workers are remembering a construction worker killed on the job. 54-year-old robert gill is being remembered. he was standing behind a dump truck that backed up and hit him.

he was killed instantaneously. he had been a member of the company 15 years. at the same time, another worker, 34 steven whittier was also pinned underneath the truck. he is expected to survive. simply tragic there. well, in the north bay, the napa river receding. that is good news the last few weeks. >> that's why i'm getting out, getting my steps in and getting some blood flowing and enjoying the break. >> napa county residents have been experiencing everything from mudslides to downed trees and floods. one driver narrowly escaped from the rising waters earlier this week. our nbc bay area app is a good resource during the wet and changing weather. you can access our live radar for the bay area, even lake tahoe. >> it is another setback for president trump's executive order banning travelers from seven mostly muslim countries. the ninth circuit court of

appeals denied an emergency request to rein state the ban. they cited a lack of evidence. families will continue to be reunited like this. president trump tweeted after the ruling saying, see you in court. the security of our nation is at stake. all caps there. the administration is expected to appeal the decision. it could go all the way up to the supreme court. much more on the impact that this court decision is having here and across the country coming up in a live report at 5:00. bart could soon become a sanctuary transit agency. that is similar to sanctuary cities like san francisco. bart would limit collaboration between bart police and immigration and customs. lateefah simon said regardless of their immigration status, riders should have the security of getting to and from work without becoming unduly targeted during their daily commute.

it is 4:40 on this friday morning. a live look at san jose. roads are wet. we will still have a chance of showers as we go through this afternoon. you see the temperatures reaching 60 degrees with breezy winds is and cloudy skies for willow glen. at 4:45, a look at the complete microclimate forecast, including the weekend, which looks nice and sunny. travel times look great through the south bay. highway 17 through silicon

valley. the mudslide restricts flow on vine hill. highway 37 has flooding in novato. >> mike, kari, thank you so much. the anderson reservoir is full and that is posing a significant problem. it was built in 1950. it should be only 68% full because of seismic vulnerabilities. there's so much water coming in it has been at capacity since last month. officials say if an earthquake were to strike of 7.25 or higher, the dam would be severely damaged. >> a big danger to people below. men low park showing drone video of a trash rack. one of the metal barriers was broken off. it happened under highway 101. the trash rack is meant to stop large debris from washing into the bay. they hope to have a plan by

monday to fix that broken barrier. all right. this is one of the most beautiful places to see in the world. when is it not a great idea to head to yosemite? actually, this weekend. park officials are asking people to delay their trip to the majestic park at least until saturday afternoon.

you have an extra glimmer in your eye. this weekend is going to be beautiful weather. >> you know why, it has been such a busy week. everyone out there feels the same way. you're worried about the mudslides and all of that and driving to work and it's wet. we had so many concerns here. we will start to see them kind of going by the wayside as this week goes along and we head into the weekend. looking live outside at oakland. this is what you have to deal with. the wet roads, the low visibility, still some rain coming down at times. and in san francisco, still slick. windshield wipers on. patchy fog as well. looking at the bigger picture, lingering rain. a lot of moisture rolling across the bay area. as we look farther north, still a line of showers that will make its way into the north bay by late morning, early afternoon. we could still see spotty showers until then. so looking at a lot of this

rain, hit or miss activity, and wet roads. it will be just enough to wet the streets again. and we're seeing some showers just moving out of san francisco across the bay bridge and over toward oakland. and some rain moving across the bay from the peninsula. and san mateo, you're seeing a break in the rain there. more to the west of you. redwood city. and spotty showers in the south bay. we have seen rain. it is starting to dry out just a bit. heading over to the tri-valley, light rain, over towards oakland. we can tell by the camera it was raining there. and coming through the altamonte pass. still wet road. look at how much rain we have had in the bay area, santa cruz mountains. anywhere 6 to 10 inches of rain with this storm total. we have seen some of those showers anywhere from -- rain totals up to 11 inches in the north bay. and we are still keeping an eye russian river guerneville.

expected to crest at 1:00 this afternoon at 35.6 feet. and through the afternoon, we still have a chance of some rain moving in. we still see redeveloping showers here, especially for the south bay. this is where we could see a few of those thunderstorms developing. and we have a slight chance of that. so just something else to be watching as we head into this afternoon. and a look at the visibility and fog right now. still looking at patchy fog. of course it is the thickest of the lowest visibility in the north bay. following me on facebook and twitter, i'm keeping you updated on this weather. and over the next several days our temperatures will be cool. and then looking at clearing for the week into early next week as well. a lot of sun and warming temperatures for next tuesday into wednesday. let's head over to mike. still tracking the north bay tphaodin flooding. >> we need a chance to pump the water from the roadway.

i want to show folks overall commute looks great right now. south of here, highway 17 has the traffic control. vine hill and granite creek. the mudslide still being cleared over the weekend. we will pump the water out of here. atherton and highway 101, locals have this tough drive. restricted drive. four times the past few storms. so that's a problem. continuing for months over here is highway 1. a little note here, highway 1, there may be fog. and fog across the golden gate bridge. mass transit has no delays. we'll track this weather, golden gate bridge will be a problem. san jose, we still have wet roads. the water kicks up. still is an issue. >> still awfully slick out there. 4:48. if you're planning on heading to yosemite this weekend, you may

tomorrow morning. this comes after the main concrete spillway. it is not said to be a threat to people who live around the area. crews are using tanker trucks to evacuate baby salmon and a fish hatchery downstream before opening the emergency spillway. >> senior investigative reporter steven stock shows us how a policy continues to split apart families, some of whom are u.s. citizens. good morning, guys. our investigation found 70,000 noncitizens enlisted in the u.s. military between 2009 and 2016. at least half of those people never applied for citizenship, according to the center for naval analyses. leaving them vulnerable to deportation. now, under the expanded list of

deportable offenses are crimes like drug possession, failure to show up in court, or even entering the country illegally, even if you did it as a child. that law passed during the clinton presidency had the practical effect of targeting hundreds of u.s. military veterans who served as noncitizens honorably discharged, then later convicted of a crime here in the u.s. after they served their jail or prison time, the u.s. government then deported them, splitting apart families, leaving many who were willing to die for the u.s. stranded in foreign countries unable to return here. we found at least 300 of these veterans living in and around tijuana and other countries overseas. 36 different cups, in fact, unable to return. ironically, when they die, their bodies can be buried here in a u.s. national cemetery. you can see our entire series of stories plus behind the scenes footage. just go to nbcbayarea.com. guys, back to you.
