demanding they are not price gouged. the good news is that water levels do continue to drop. >> reporter: a concerted effort under way to bring the water levels down. trucks are rolling in and taking away huge boulders into the spillway. the situation is steady right now. but the danger is far from over. it's a race against time to bring the water levels down in hopes of heading off an enormous flood that will affect 200,000 people below. >> it is bringing the lake level down. but the storm may be coming in the end of the week. >> work crews are responding by airlifting 100,000 pounds of

17. partially shut town because of a series of mudslides. now an alternate road is sinking. chrkris sanchez is live with wh this means for commuters. another setback, kris. good morning. >> reporter: good morning to you. anybody whose business takes them to the santa cruz mountains, you know they are at their wit's end. the detour route showing wear and tear. we are at bare creek road. the road to remove the mudslide continues through scotts valley. that could end by this afternoon if all goes according to plan. but they are all putting tre men taos pressure on smaller roadways that are now seeing wear and tear as well.

look at how many roads are listed as closed. as of this morning, 50 roads were shut down or limited because of damage or repair. one is socal san jose road which is giving way in slow motion. >> it is is definitely going to get worse. every day it loses 4 to 6 inches. >> it is already down to one lane in several locations. this is the last straw. >> and that is just one of the alternate routes. it could reopen as early as this afternoon. socal road is closed. 35 is closed. state route 9 has a mudslide. that will compromise the access from santa cruz to felton. all of this information will be on nbc bay area.com.

chrkris sanchez, today in the b. another severely affected roadway. it caus they will do emergency work to raise the road. with more rain on the way, crews will be working 24 hours a day to get it down. highway 37 will remain closed in both directions from 101 to atherton avenue. another khroerb toclosure t about. they are closing the road that links salsalito to the bay bridge. crews will be essentially clearing trees out there. golden gate transit buses will be affected.

motorists being urged to use other exits to get to salsalito. this morning we have most live clear skies and clear visibility compared to yesterday morning when we saw the fog developing. we are also looking down the line to see when our next storm system will be moving in. all clear and dry for today and tomorrow. early thursday morning we start to see that rain moving north to south. this is the first of several storm systems set to move into the bay area. as we go through the next couple of days, another storm system arriving on friday. how much rain we can expect and a timeline in a couple of minutes. mike takes us to oakland. >> we have a trash. this one stretch of road is 980.

spillway to shore up any problems to&stabilize this area. of course we want to try to do this as soon as possible before that rain starts coming in. we do know the evacuations are still in place for 200,000 residents spanning butte, nuba and southern counties. the lake levels are dropping. during our press conference yesterday, we had jerry brown talking with a member of the trump cabinet talk building this crisis. he was unaware that raised concerns about this emergency spillway. >> we didn't even think about it three days ago. but it happened.

bob redell, today in the bay. >> thank you very much. we have been talking about the struggling spillways. our investigative unit has uncovered records showing state and federal agencies were warned that a problem could develop around the oroville spillway. 5:37 right now. the chp investigating the death of a pedestrian. the victim was killed on 580 in dublin. a car struck the man as he walked in the bound hov lanes. officers say neither drugs nor whole played a factor. no word why the victim was on the freeway. a story we first brought you yesterday morning. surveillance caught a quick glimpse of the silver car that

struck a woman in south san francisco on sunday. the victim was in a crosswalk. the driver sped off, leaving the woman in critical condition. investigators say the car was a honda civic or toyota camry which should have damage to the lower front end. all of this weather is causing a dangerous problem for your pets. they are getting lepto. it is is normally present in wildlife. rain and puddles are helping to spread it around. they have seen five cases in three months, compared to just two for the entire year. two of the five dogs didn't survive. >> basically they urine ate and excrete the infection in their urine. then dogs go to the park, drink the water, and are infected that way. >> so lepto is easily spread in talking urine.
