to friday. there is a lot of heavy rain coming down now. >> take a look at this. one of the places it has been raining. we caught these shots from berkeley. our photographers be just sending this this morning. not a lot of people out there just yet. >> not so much. we will be seeing that all over the bay area, kari. it is pretty widespread at this point. more concerns about the heavy rain moving in. it will be with us pretty much in waves all day long. not only that but gusty winds. we have the concern of more down trees and possibly mudslides in the santa cruz mountains. the rain rolling from the south, into the bay area with pretty good coverage right now. some of the heaviest rain moving through san francisco, oakland, extending to the east bay. this coming through with heavy downpours throughout the morning and the afternoon. so this impacts the drive as you head out the door.

you are this morning. well, i have to tell you both no one is more sad because our day started at 3:30 this morning. it trailed us to fremont. we're at the bart station right now. the temperature gauge says 53. so it is mild. this is not going to last long. we have been watching the radar, the same radar kari is using this morning. we know we will be pummeled by the path of yellow and the path of orange. we will feel a deluge, as sam likes to say, here in fremont. if you hit the roads you will find they are sloppy this morning. thank you so much, kris. developing overnight, the anderson reservoir in morgan hill just keeps collecting water. and it is at risk of overflowing. the reservoir is 99% full.

water is being released into the creek. it could impact homes along its banks. the reservoir not supposed to exceed 68% due to seismic concerns. the dam might not hold up in a major earthquake. from the anderson dam north to oroville dam. it is raining in the area. water levels are well below the emergency spillway. more rain for the region is rattling folks who have been told they could be ordered to evacuate like they were last sunday. cheryl hurd with what is expected in the next 24 hours in oroville. >> reporter: even though officials are telling people they can move back into their homes, there's amount of mixed press around here. it doesn't help when some people walk out of their homes they look at this, what you are seeing right now, rushing water

our newsroom. flames and smoke overtook kc's barbecue in berkeley. at 12:30 they spotted the flames and called the fire department. they were about to celebrate their 50th year in business. it was contained but the cause is still under investigation. 4:36 on your friday morning. happening later today, several groups are organizing a general strike. more than 100 protests will pop up across the country, one is planned for noon in san francisco outside 555 california street. that is a building partially owned by president trump. there have been other protests here, including the one you're looking at. this is one in san francisco as well. it is unclear how many people attend the protest in the city. >> most likely the rain will impact everyone today. we are in the microclimate weather alert.

high winds and stormy conditions batter the bay area. >> at 4:36, a little bit of break in the rain. the heaviest rolled to the north. we will look at the timeline of the waves of rain coming up in about 10 minutes. and a live look at 880, oakland coliseum. looking at a blur on the lens and water on the roadway. and cat-like reflexes saved the life of a toddler. what stood between that young child and a serious injury. we will show you more right after the black.

it is 4:40 on this friday morning. let me get you out the door with what it looks like outside your window. rain. very wet conditions with rain now also in san francisco creating slippery roads. we will continue to see the rain as we go through the day. temperatures holding steady in the upper 50s with gusty winds. a look ahead with what to expect for the weekend coming up at 4:47. look again at highway 101. not a lot of cars but a lot of rain here. more issues for slippery roadways. and a contribution over in the east bay. take a look at this.

dramatic new video just into our newsroom this morning showing the moment a toddler snatched out of the air falling off a store counter. the toddler was standing on the store counter when he lost his balance much the employee caught him happily with one hand before the child hit the floor. it happened a business in houston, texas. the employee is crediting his skydiving training for his quick reflexes. >> that is amazing. he slides right off that thing. 4:41. the palo alto school board will pull a child care system into its own. they will create an expanded prom. this is one of the low aft options. palo alto school board members

shot is coming from? that is the golden gate bridge. the ggb. that's right. if you can make out the traffic at least for the moment. it's early. but it is is light out there. >> are you down with ggb? >> you know me. >> oh, come on now. i want to ask you questions about where things are in terms of the rain. it looks like we have a big pock of yellow over san francisco. >> that's where it is. we just saw on the golden gate bridge camera where it was just pouring. you can get a view of the radar. you can see what we're talking about right now. also raining in san jose. you see the roads are wet. and we still have light rain falling from the sky. as we go back to the camera, the drivers are just flashing and dashing, making it across the bridge and into san francisco. we see the bright yellows and the reds there. and this system rolls from south

to north back into the bay area with rounds of heavy rain expected. there will be breaks soon. that's what we are seeing in parts of the peninsula as well as the bay. rain arriving there. bringing in heavy downpours around the santa rosa and farther north. as we head over to napa, sonoma, a steady downpour. you are about to see much heavier rain in the next few minutes in san rafael. san francisco covered with all the yellows and reds indicating the rainfall rates may be coming down at a quarter inch per hour. the seven-day forecast. we are seeing some of that rain moving through a lot more rain in the forecast the next several days. looking at oakland, as well as richmond, kensington, we are seeing very heavy downpours there. this is where we may at least within the next 30 minutes have

flooding on the roadways dealing with that as you head out the door. allow extra time to get to work and school later this morning. we are going to see a little bit of a break as you head just to the south of fremont into san jose. the rain is closing in as we are seeing this next wave of heavy rain through gilroy and morgan hill and moving north. we are seeing the rain covering the santa cruz mountains with steady downpours there. a break right now for lowe's al toes, palo alto and wood side. keep driving up 280. the rain will continue to move as we go through the day. this is storm system number two. we had one yesterday. two is here now. number three is just behind that. it will be here for the end of the weekend. as you look at the timeline for the rain, seeing all of this lifting through the day. and breaks in between. you will need the umbrella all day long.

make them prime candidates for testing. critics call the experiments outdated, bar baker, and sometimes deadly. nationwide, research labs house more than 100,000 primates. at least 25,000 are used for experiments that can cause pain or distress. 740 are never given any form of pain medication. that could interfere with the research. critics of the testing point to alternatives like this out of uc berkeley where scientists created real living beating new heart tissue. it is all connected to a computer and could be used to test the impact of drugs in humans. despite that kind of progress, supporters say science still hasn't advanced enough to committeely do away with the need for research monkeys. you can logon to your website to find out about every primate research center in the country,
