>> we will get out on the plaza in a bit. out west, up to 10 inches. >> the powerful pacific storm affecting millions of americans out west. steve patterson is live this mortgage. >> reporter: good morning, craig and sheinelle. this is the most powerful storm to hit southern california in years for good reason. first of all, the rainfall has been absolutely incredible. more rainfall in some places in one day than those areas would get in one month. what does that mean? it means flash flooding, absolutely everywhere. washed out roads causing dozens of accidents. in one case, rescue crews found a man submerged in flood waters. pronounced dead on the scene. the wind has been just as bad. wind gusts up to 80 miles an hour. in some cases, toppling trees and landing on power lines. the power lines arcing and

sparking. in one case, a tree land oed on top of a car which killed a 55-year-old man. about 150 calls for downed power lines last night. about 150,000 customers without power in the los angeles area. mudslides also a major problem. nearly 200 homes in the hillside communities thought to be in the red zone or the threat zone. that situation will only get worse after the storm ends because the rainfall saturated so much of the land here. the mudslides will be more likely. back out here live, we have been watching the incredible situation. crews pulling cars from the massive sinkhole that swallowed two cars. because of a miraculous rescue, nobody was hurt. the full power of the storm has been on display and we are nowhere near over with it at this point. more rainfall expected today and another system moves through

early next week. craig and sheinelle. >> steve, thank you. >> indra is standing by with a deeper look at this thing. when can they look at relief? >> it is not just this storm, but another one behind it. the ground is saturated here. 22 million people with the risk and flood treat. the greatest threat in the burn areas. anything where the water is coming down. here is the first storm. this is the last 12 hours. you are talking about 2 to 6 inches of rain in the coastal sections. in the foothills, up to 10 inches of rainfall. now you have the second storm making its way in. there is going to be a difference with the first storm and second storm. that is where the focus is. remember the river? the atmospheric river? that is pointed at northern california. especially out toward san francisco. the next system makes its way in tomorrow. you are barely getting relief. heavy rainfall making its way

. good saturday morning to you. a live look at the bay bridge from oakland. cloudy skies, rain still coming down this morning, but a break is on the way. no matter how short it will be, you will get a chance to enjoy a break today. good morning. i'm kira klapper. vianey arana has a look at that break in the rain with our microclimate forecast. >> yes. we are still under a microclimate weather alert, mainly because any little bit of rain can make slick road conditions and we've already seen so much rain with the reservoirs and lake levels we still want to keep a close eye. in oakland, seeing a few scattered showers. 53 degrees. the storm system is expected to finally make its exit east within the next couple of hours giving you a nice break.

kira mentioned, to enjoy outside. probably still muddy out there. temps not bad either. waking up to 50s across the area. san jose 52. we are still seeing breezy to windy conditions as well, and here's a live look now at that doppler radar. we can actually see that storm system kind of breaking apart moving east, and still with it leaving those scattered showers and we are expecting the scattered showers to stick around through the early morning hours before it finally makes its exit. you can see, los gatos area, moderate to heavy downpours out there. >> vianey, thanks. that storm had downed power lines and trees in the south bay, and once again this morning we are keeping a close eye on the rise be waters of the anderson reservoir. this is what it looked like late last night. gushing water at the bottom of the anderson dam. this is from the relief valve for the reservoir, nearing 100% capacity. it's only six inches from flowing over the spillway for the first time in 11 years which

could mean flooding in nearby creeks. >> out here about 26, 28 years ago, when the spillway first went over. we came out here and it looked like niagara falls. >> wow. the latest storm is toppling trees throughout the south bay like this one on south park lane in santa clara. it was a close call. >> very happy that it fell to the street, because my bedroom is right there, and my partner was still in bed when it fell. so it could have been a disaster situation. >> and in capitola, this massive eucalyptus went crashing down on park avenue blocking traffic and further north in socal another tree snapping power lines hitting a house and crushing this pickup. fortunately, no one was hurt. despite the fact that the storms continue, california state water officials feel confident that the spillways at the oroville dam will hold. they say water continues to be released and that right now the lake is about 40 feet below the overflow height. >> let's be clear. the things we're dealing with
