down trees. we have lingering showers this morning. so we have powered up stormranger. we are standing around the bay area. it's right here in san jose. as we see the red beam around the radar, still tracking some of the showers. we will continue to see off and on rain through the morning as the water levels cresting and receding through the day. waves of showers moving through. breezy ones making things wet once again. that will be one issue you will be facing as you head out for the drive. a lot more people heading out on the roadways. what does it look like out on the roadways in. >> this is exactly what it looked like a short time ago. northbound 880. lake dixon landing road before you get to the off-ramp. two right lanes are blocked. i passed by a few minutes ago. traffic shifting over to the left two lanes.

see the two workers. it is above their ankles there. in a couple of seconds, there's the off-ramp as well. talking about niles canyon. the closure. you see the person on the side of the road. they are pumping the away from that. i'm not sure how it does to pump the water up the hill. back to the maps. overall, traffic flows nicely. there's the closure at niles canyon road. two right lanes. northbound 880. much more to report. for now we'll send it back to you. we have an escalating situation in the south bay. >> bob redell joining us live downstream. parts of the river still flooding, bob. what are you seeing? >> reporter: good morning to you, sam and laura. as you can see, we are standing over coyote creek.

it h the road last night was impas impassab impassable. the roads are wet. it is certainly driveable yesterday's storm caused coyote creek -- this was oakland road yesterday afternoon where coyote creek flows underneath. the waterway was so swollen it snapped a tree and brought it down on oakland road. residents of the south bay mobile home park which butts up against the creek, the drains were backed up. water started rising. >> i lost a lot then and i don't want to lose a lot now. i'm hoping i don't have to. >> san jose fire department pumped water out and was ready to evacuate if need be.

the water has receded. it doesn't appear any of the homes sustained damage. we will take you farther south along coyote creek to check out the conditions there. reporting live here in san jose, bob redell, today in the bay. >> thank you very much, bob. good to see some of those homes could be saved. one home destroyed. several others being threatened in the north bay because of erosion along the russian river. the russian water has washed away property. homeowners recently placed boulders alongside the river trying to make a buffer to help save the home. >> there's four houses there that have been having problems with the yards dropping into the river. >> in the north bay, two homes in petaluma were nearly damaged when a huge tree fell between the property. don't get caught out in the rain. download our nbc bay area app.

a frightening situation from new york, and it's all new. several fell into a pond. they were standing on the ice. according to some reports, the youngsters were taken a group selfie when the ice gave way. a few of those victims suffered mild hyper therm ya but otherwise okay. we are tracking a developing story where new dashcam video showing you a fireball. you see it in the distance of your screen there lighting up the sky. that is following a deadly airplane crash in australia. four american tourists died, along with the australian pilot. it happened shortly after the plane took off from a small airport in melbourne about 9:00

it is 4:39. the microclimate weather alert continues. mobile doppler radar scanning the bay area and picking up on what's happening with very high detail. we have a park in san jose. it is pigging up on some of the scattered showers you will have to deal with as you head out for the morning commute. we'll talk about what else to expect coming up in five minutes. already we have a slower drive out of the altamonte pass. the issue is a familiar one.

you're down a couple of lanes. more closures coming up. thanks a lot, kari and mike. it's 34 listen 41 right now. questions about a security breach at jfk international aurptment the tsa is at the center of a controversy. a full investigation is under way. authorities are trying to find 8 of the 11 people who passed through an unattended security airport. the passengers were able to board their flights without boeing stalked yesterday morning. three of the passengers even set off metal detectors. wow. 4:40 on your tuesday morning. back in court with debate continuing over key evidence. ant lynn garcia torres murder trial is resuming today. he is accused of killing morgan hill teenager sierra lamar. a rope was found in the trunk of his volkswagen. police say dna testing showed

the rope had her hair on it. to this day her body approximate has not been bound. the defense claims she ran away. coming up, all the rain here and a lot of snow in the sierra. it is a tough travel time. >> not too many issues right now getting over the golden gate bridge. as you see there, mike is pointing out very slick conditions when you leave the house. we'll talk more about what the weather holds today right after this.

welcome to tuesday morning. it is 4:44. we are under another microclimate weather alert. rain and snow making for a long day of travel for people heading to and from the sierra after this extended holiday weekend. this is a look at sisco road. crews worked yesterday to try to keep all the roadways clear. caltrans still holding big rigs at the state line because the traffic has been so heavy. they could allow trucks to pass on interstate 880 later this morning. >> people have been keeping in touch with me because they want to know what route to take. >> sports team or ski team? >> another thing people will be talk building is the wind.

>> it will be breezy throughout the morning commute. keep a tight grip on the steering wheel. we still have lingering scattered showers that will continue throughout the arch. here's a live look outside at san jose. still wet. no rain falling right now. light rain in san francisco. that's what we are seeing still left over on the roadways. and scattered showers moving in. we'll continue to see waves of this as we go through the day. and a closer look at our stormranger, mobile doppler radar. that's the red beam that you are seeing on the radar. standing around gives us high detail of exactly where that rain is falling. as we head over to the east bay, right now in oakland, we see the rain just to the south around san leandro, heading to hayward. we will continue to see the rain moving through lafayette and concord. farther north, showers near vacaville and fairfield. as we will continue to see that moving off to the east. light rain for parts of the

peninsula. getting heavier for spots that are getting closer to redwood city. so a lot of rain here off and on. we will see this throughout the day. more moisture streaming in. and also more snow for the sierra. the bigger picture shows the weekend storm down the line. this is the next thing we will be watching as it winds down and moves off to the east. we are not completely done with the rain just yet. you are seeing that on the seven-day forecast at the bottom of the screen. still seeing a chance of scattered showers, possibly an isolated thunderstorm. as the storm system winds down and even at 11:00, as you get ready to head out for lunch, it is is still going to be raining. a few more breaks this afternoon, into the evening. and we will start to see dryer air and clearing skies for tomorrow morning. looking at additional rainfall fort bay area, many of us seeing trace amounts of rain. there could be spots getting a

half inch of rain and three-quarters in spots like livermore. 53 degrees. 58 in oakland and san francisco 57 degrees. temperatures will be holding steady, scattered showers with a mix of sun and clouds. i just tweeted out what's happening around the bay area with a view of stormranger. more to come as we go through the morning. we have potholes, closures and mudslides. you've got it all. >> looking around the bay, speed sensors are not a problem. you see one obvious section over there. niles canyon we'll talk about in a second. we got a word just before our show, there was a few potholes on the right two lanes. that's the same stretch of roadway where we had closures a few weeks ago. it sounds like there are large potholes. stay to the left coming out of the altamonte pass.

we'll track that this morning. we know there is a full closure. this is the stretch i was pointing out. nil niles canyon, highway 84. they caught you the ace train as well. i should note there. the mudslide come in yesterday. over here, another mudslide at highway 9 or south of there. it's closed off. another mudslide closes the southbound direction. this is a new one. you are not able to use highway 17 to get to santa cruz. i'm hoping they can do some traffic control. no word on the progress. it is is still dark. make sure it is avenue out there. highway 17, 152, highway 9, highway 152 has a closure. that is not a good option. you have to go down to 156 heading south or up to 92 and
