anything north of the dumbarton bridge, completely fine. we had the closure for niles canyon that we continue to follow. full closure for both directions of 101. it is is a critical portion of the south pay. this is where we see the first slowing of the morning. we will see slowing on the approach coming up in the area. over toward 280 or 87 southbound. use that corner here as your workaround to avoid the stretch of 101. that is not the only section that is closed. we have the closure farther south. it is tough to get up here from morgan hill. use monterey road, old monterey highway. so far things are still close to the area. we are still recovering from the rainfall we had yesterday that massive flood. >> we still have high levels for
4:34 am
coyote creek. we see this kind of going upwards farther north away from the reservoir. but still above flood stage. still high levels here. it is is currently at 11 feet and will continue to drop as we go tomorrow making it below flood stage by tomorrow evening. the reason the reservoirs are up to 100%, anderson 104%. uvas and lexington, 103%. 37 degrees in the north bay. san francisco, 48 degrees. chilly conditions in the east bay with wet roads. low visibility in santa rosa. it has dropped down a quarter of a mile. patchy fog extending into the south bay and east bay as well. the sensors here are showing clear conditions. as we head into the weekend,

4:36 am
101 southbound. this is information we're getting from chp. a conference call just wrapped up with city and county officials about the next step. the water has nowhere to go. that's the biggest dilemma right now. crews are working hand in hand with caltrans. they are trying to figure this out. they are trying to place cones in the right place. it is pure chaos dealing with all of these road closures. back out live to the 101. you can see the flooding in this area. really because of the reservoirs and creeks, they don't know where this water is going to go. as of right now, guys, they are saying there's no eta. live in san jose, pete suratos,

4:41 am
>> reporter: right. this is where michelle was standing yesterday, our reporter. this is where the water line was. it has gone down just a bit because the coyote creek has crested. two cars are still under water. one almost completely submerged around the midday newscast. about 500 families were evacuated from rock springs naked. they're not here. it is all quiet. about 200 had to be evacuated. it wasn't clear that it was going to be an emergency of this

sort. we talked with the mayor is 1:30 yesterday arch. he said clearly there was a failure in the system but this is not the time to discuss that. we're hearing more from the mayor coming up at 5:00 when we talk to you next. we wanted to make sure you can see how far the water has gone for a point of reference. >> it is just amaze to go see. >> thank you very much, kris. coming up, more coverage of all of this massive flooding. this is downtown at 27th and santa clara. bob redell live.

4:46 am
we usually don't have to talk about reroutes. if you're just joining us this is 101 at the 680/280. we have seen a few southbound. the vehicles have been going through periodically over the course of the morning. but off in the distance, you see the crossing. highway 101. closed off the entire stretch between the enter change and 880. alum rock, all the exits there. the freeway closed in both directions. north 87 is fine coming up into our station as an alternate. but southbound we don't usually
4:47 am
see a problem there. we are seeing a little bit of slowing. 101 past the airport and over towards 280 where you can head back over to 101. instead of cutting the corner, taking the corner. that will be the easiest. very crowded alternate. much more traffic there. 101 did reopen to morgan hill. we reported that yesterday for our midday news as it was happening. one more section where we have closure, niles canyon because of flooding. as i get out of your way, the green speed sensors but not the greens of the wet, soaking roadways we saw yesterday. things are calmer. we are still paying the price. >> yeah, mike.

4:49 am
way. we will still see some of the flooding going on across parts of san jose and then extending towards south san jose, along 101. we will have a few more days to dry out. we will see all the dry weather in between for today, tomorrow, as well as friday. this weekend storm arrives on saturday. we are going to take a look what to expect as this moves in. scattered showers on saturday. right now some of the computer models taking the storm track a little farther to the south. we get the widespread rain on sunday. that would be a much more favored scenario. the storm track going farther south. still things up in the air. looking down the line what one computer model was forecasting giving us a general one inch across the bay area. as we go through the forecast, chilly air settling in.

evacuation area issued around 12:15 a.m. by the city. this is south and west of 101. we have only known of one business owner whose shop flooded. we haven't seen people leaving their homes. not too many homes have flooded. there are businesses along the street. there is the overflow from coyote creek. as you look down santa clara street, it is about seven blocks that way. we are about seven blocks away from coyote creek. you can do the math.
4:52 am
they are a half mile away from coyote creek. this is the area that is flooded as a result of this. according to the santa clara valley water district, this peaked 8:36 last night. even though it peaked, it is still to recede. it is even possible given the distance delay it still might be increasing the level at least over in this area. this part of the creek has peaked. we are not seeing the water recede. people are getting up and getting ready for work. bob redell, today in the bay. >> one question for you, my friend. you talk about the fact that you are seven blocks away. just to give a full picture of how wide the evacuation area is, are we talking 16, 17 blocks, in that range? >> reporter: if you were to look
4:53 am
at a map and you had coyote creek here and 101 here, 280 is here. we are in that piece of the pie, self blocks. probably a good square mile or two. that's the gist that i'm getting. >> we want to remind people as they come upon the standing water, you don't know how deep it is is. be careful. don't attempt to go through. it is 4:53. coming up, additional live pictures. this is yesterday where massive flooding happened. you can see the water bare ly receding there. kris sanchez will join us with a live report.

4:57 am
you see how high the water level is still. all the way up to the window on the cars. >> it is amazing because the people had to be decontaminated as well. they are waters coming from coyote creek. they don't know what could be in it. they will not be returning home any time soon. >> we heard about oil and household products, other toxic elements in the water. back out live to 101 which is closed because of flooding. this picture is from alum rock and 101. it is closed from the 280/680 connector to 880. it will be closed for hours. >> it almost looks like a side street. you will not be able to go through. the good news is highway 101 by morgan hill is now open. coming up, kari is tracking the forecast for us as well. a day to dry out. >> today drying out. ongoing flood warnings for the south bay, the entire central valley is as the water goes
