>> i have a message for president trump from one republican to another. this is a disaster. and you can still fix it. you made a froms to pro -- made a promise to protect the lgbtq community. call me. >> one of the subjects we want to talk to steve kornacki and nicole wallace about. the president did a good job of saying he is going to continue to do what he promised to do during the campaign. this audience during that campaign had real fears about trump's conservative credentials. what specifically do they want to hear from him today? >> i remember saying at the republican convention that the republican party i worked for 20 years led by george w. bush and inspired by ronald reagan died in the room that night. that's a symbol of how weak

conservatism was. there's nothing conservative about what he's doing. but they have bought it, hook, line and sinker. >> what does he need to say? >> well, the question is, what is he going to say? and he is going to say the same of what he's been saying. that conservatism, is about protectionism and isolationism and the very things that animated fighting those three things, animated conservativism for generations before it. >> campaign on the trail, then, candidate trump said for repeal and replace obamacare. and then, has john boehner in orlando, at the health care conference, saying, they shouldn't actually call it that because that's not what is going to happen. they're going to fix the flaws and put a more conservative box around it. we saw that in peter's piece. that's a guy that knows a thing or two about the legislative process. the former speaker, mike pence at cpac, saying that obamacare, the nightmare is about to end. what does that say?

>> that's john boehner a guy that's waiting a few years to have the freedom to say that. that's something he wanted to say and couldn't. that's the bind that republicans are in right now. he says, if you take this away right now, this entire program and you don't have a replacement, you own any of the failures that happen. and they haven't had a placement in a generation. >> but repeal and replace makes a good bumper sticker. fix does not. >> it does not. but we had reporting that some of the early talks between outgoing president obama and incoming president trump were about doing just this, about rebranding it and tweaking it. so i think this has been the plan all along. >> really quick topic. military operation, that the president used in describing the round up and deportation of undocumented immigrants in this country. the white house tried to walk it back. did they succeed? >> so there's a story out this morning about how the generals, general kelly and general mattis' primary job is stood clean-up and save face for the united states of america around the world.

and you see that with this comment, general kelly saying this is not the case. there will not be mass deportations. you saw general mattis talking about how we are not after iraq's oil. the most interesting people to me right now are the generals who seem to be doing clean-up full-time. >> and steve, quickly on the transgender issue, we just saw it there, he said, president trump said on the campaign trail people should be able to use the bathroom they feel they identify with. what happened with this issue? >> they are getting a lot of negative attention on this, a lot of criticism, and there's a big chunk of the country outraged by what the administration is doing here. i do think it is worth stepping back and realize when you look at the polling on it, this country is split on this. there are a lot of people out there who are on board with what the administration is. and you look how fast these cultures are shifting. five years ago president obama was opposed to gay marriage on religious grounds. a lot of people have not come as far as the liberals on this issue. >> steve, thank you. nicole, welcome back, good to see you.

a group of teens after a series of previous complaints about neighborhood kids trampling the officer's lawn. the confrontation quickly escalated as the officer and teen argue. >> i didn't say that. why are you lying. i said i'm going to sue you! >> reporter: after struggling with the boy for several minutes, the officer was surrounded by teenagers and tackled by one of them. before pulling a gun, firing a single shot. police say the officer felt threatened and made the decision to use force. >> during the confrontation, it is alleged the 13-year-old boy made a threat against the officer that led the officer to believe that he was going to shoot him. >> reporter: today, city leaders and police are shaken by what they see. though the video does not show the entire encounter. >> i'm deeply disturbed and frankly angered by what it shows. the video shows an adult

wrestling with a 13-year-old kid and ultimately firing a gun. >> reporter: with police now protecting one of their own, hunkered down across the street from the officer's property, which was vandalized during a rowdy protest wednesday night, neighbors are divided over what happened here. >> they come to our property, they kick our stuff around, they shove stuff into our tree -- confront them and they are very bold. >> we are upset. there's no reason for an officer to respond like that. they are trained to actually apprehend the person in a professional way. >> reporter: this morning, the dangerous confrontation that went from a struggle to a shooting remains under investigation. but many here have seen enough. and are now drawing their own conclusions. the two teens arrested were later released. they have not faced any criminal charges, but investigators say all parties involved including that officer could still face

criminal charges. the investigation should be complete in a few days. back to you guys. >> miguel, thank you very much. important update now. we now know what poison was used on the attack of the half-brother of north korea's leader. it was a banned and highly toxic nerve agent. kelly cobiella has more on this. kelly, good morning. >> reporter: matt, good morning to you. yeah, another twist in this story in a frightening one. the malaysian police chief says that vx nerve agent, classified as a weapon of mass destruction, was used in the terminal of a crowded international airport to kill kim jong-nam. two women wiped kim jong-nam's face with a deadly nerve agent vx. investigators said the alleged killers washed their hands after the attack. one woman seen on surveillance video holding her hands away from her body. police say one of them was sick and vomiting. and that tests from kim

jong-nam's skin and eyes confirmed the poison. >> vx nerve agent, which is a chemical weapon. >> reporter: vx or venomous agent x, a tasteless, odorless liquid. experts say it's the deadliest nerve agent ever created. mere drops on the skin can kill and quickly, causing convulsions, eye pain and stopping breathing. kim jong-nam had a seizure in the ambulance and died before reaching the hospital. north korea is believed to have the third-largest stockpile of chemical weapons. this morning, malaysian officials say they're sweeping the airport for any trace of the deadly liquid. investigating how it got to the country and who might have smuggled it here. at the north korean embassy at kuala lumpur this morning, more denials. >> this is a lie. >> reporter: the north koreans deny they have been officially asked to cooperate. they say the investigation into the attack on kim jong-un's half-brother and one-time rival

is flawed and still haven't acknowledged that he's dead. seven north koreans are wanted for questioning, including a senior diplomat seen at the airport the day of the attack. and the malaysians say that diplomat is now in the north korean embassy in kuala lumpur, but no sign the north koreans will allow access to him. in fact, the war of words between the malaysians and the embassy is heating up. this morning, the malaysian foreign minister called the north korean ambassador delusional. matt? carson? >> a story that gets more and more bizarre. kelly, thank you very much. let's turn to the countdown to the oscars. hollywood, the big night on sunday. what exactly can you expect? joe fryer is out at the dolby theater in los angeles with a look ahead. joe, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, carson. they rolled out the red carpet which is currently covered by a white tarp. come sunday, this will be a runway for hollywood's biggest stars.

fiance's former wife. we'll talk to michelle exclusively. first, "dateline's" dennis murphy has her story. >> reporter: the charges and the headlines were devastating to michelle hadley's parents, michael and suzanne. they couldn't, wouldn't believe it. nothing in cracter with >> there's nothing in character with the michelle that you raised here? >> not at all. >> police said michelle sent threatening e-mails to a woman named angela diaz. she had recently married michelle's ex-fiancee. >> there was clear evidence to believe michelle was sending the e-mails. >> but then the cyber threats became darker and even dangerous. michelle was suspected of responding to craigslist rape fantasy ads in angela's aims and directing men to angela's home. angela called 9d 11 saying none of those men attacked her. >> this is way beyond misdemeanor mischief. this is a criminal act. >> most definitely. >> michelle was arrested but insisted she was innocent.

it took months but eventually they unralveled the forensics. >> i'm here to announce the filing of a felony complaint against angela marie diaz. >> in a already beyond strange case this turned things up to 11. the d.a. said angela diaz was the mastermind and soul actor in an elaborate scheme to portray herself as a victim. she had quite simply framed michelle. >> michelle is accused to be angela that turned out to be angela pretending to be michelle pretending to be angela. >> inviting men to her own home to rape her. inflicting injuries on herself and all to put her husband's ex-girlfriend behind bars. what's more at least for a few months authorities say she

succeeded. >> we should mention angela diaz pleaded not guilty. michelle is with us exclusively along with her attorney. good morning to both of you. >> good morning. >> what's it like to live through this. >> who identify something it's your worse nightmare coming true. >> when you are being accused of all of these things, of sending the threatening e-mails of then sending men to angela's house to have sex with her forcibly you were telling the police i'm not doing this did you think they believed you. >> no, i got the sense it was the opposite. they didn't want to hear my side of the story. >> there's an extra part of this. when the relationship with your exfiancee broke up you did send e-mails to him that were nasty. >> i wouldn't call them nasty but i would say that the language i used was more forceful than i would normally take but the tone and the language was very different from what angela was using. >> but if you read those e-mails

as a police officer do you think they would have lead you to be a likely suspect in what was happening with angela diaz. >> i think that the police have a responsibility to do a true thorough investigation regardless of what they suspect off of something speculative. >> we reached out to the anaheim police department for comment. here's what they said. we believe our actions were appropriate based on the evidence known to us at the time. in addition it was the persistent efforts of the detective that ultimately uncovered the truth that lead to michelle's exoneration. how do you feel about that? >> i believe that the police had enough information available to them before they arrested me the first time to know that it wasn't me doing it. >> ironically, angela diaz although she pleaded not guilty, she is being held in the same jail where you spent three months. that's an unbelievable twist. >> yeah. it's very weird to watch the

==tvo== the situatiois improvinto a good morning on your friday, 8:26. i'm sam brock. the situation is improving to a degree for thousands of people hit hard this week by the flooding in coyote creek. people in the rock springs neighborhood are still under mandatory evacuation orders, but as you can tell from the video there, a lot of that water that at one point was chest high earlier this week has been pumped out. based on the last update we got thursday morning, 3800 people remain under a mandatory evacuation order at this point, but it is hoped that all those remaining flood victims can return to their homes by sunday. also, next tuesday, city council members plan on ratifying their local emergency declaration. mike is tracking a newly developed crash on 87. what do you know? >> we have a easy drive for most of the bay, right down here in san jose, a crash originally reported blocking the fast lane,

but two middle lanes, sounds like a motorcycle is involved and i'm waiting to find out about the condition of the driver. this is jamming up traffic north 87 from 85 to that scene. continue over toward highway 17 or take 101 starting to show a little more slowing and you can see that. folks traveling over on the capital express way will join in there, you see the slower drive 101. ripple effect even on this friday, lighter commute for the south bay. also a huge -- we will maintain a lighter flow, that might help. >> thank you, mike. back in 30 minutes with more news.

>> reporter: back at the la plant farm, holly is hoping to take over the farm from her dad. she is firm in her support for president trump. what about the tweeting? do you like that he tweets? or do you think he gets himself in trouble? >> it's just his way. he doesn't have to change who he was from previous just because he is now the president. should he try to do things a little differently? yes. but he doesn't have to change who he is. that defeats the purpose of us voting for him in the first place. >> he's ruffling a lot of feathers, which is what we were looking for. i don't know. people just need to give him a chance. we did that with obama. we gave him a chance. now, let's give this guy a chance. >> reporter: what advice do you have for him? >> you any he will call me? >> he might. >> that would be the greatest thing that could happen if we could get him on a small dairy. have him come out and walk around with his boots on, like you.

==tv= e situations improvingo a deee .. for tusands of good friday morning at 9:26. i'm sam brock. the situation is improving to a degree for thousands of people hit hard by the flooding of coyote spring. people are still under mandatory evacuation orders. as you can see, it's all dry. at least most of the road there is. that was chest-high water earlier this week that's now been pumped out. based on the last update yesterday morning, 3800 people across the city remain under mandatory evacuation. it's hoped all the remaining flood victims can return home by sunday. also next tuesday city council members in san jose plan on ratifying their local emergency declaration. within the last hour authorities confirmed a young woman whose body was discovered on the banks of alameda creek is

that of the young tracy woman who crashed her car into alameda creek during heavy rain. a man walking his dogs made that discovery. investigators say the body had been under water for some time. crews spent days searching for the woman after her car crashed on january 21st. her family was still holding out hope she might have survived. a very tragic story. we'll have more for our news at 11:00. we'll have a look at what is a dry friday turning wet this weekend.
